Opis:
Fr. Łukasz Golec, a PhD student of theology at the Catholic University in Lublin, presents the problem of modernism and turns to D. von Hildebrand’s publications issued after the Second Vatican Council had been closed. Within the sources there are Polish works only, and only those who do not address the question of modernism in von Hildebrand’s thought. None of the papers on the matter published in the Thomistic Yearbook is mentioned, neither a dissertation, written in English, Ideas of Christian Modernism in Dietrich von Hildebrand’s Philosophy, defended in 2020. The book consists of the introduction, three chapters, and the conclusion. The first chapter is Genesis of Modernism and speaks of the vast spectrum of issues of modernism. Next, Dietrich von Hildebrand- Life, Activity, and Fundaments of Philosophy reconstructs main tenets of von Hildebrandian phenomenology. The third is about Philosophical-Theological Premises of Dietrich von Hildebrand which Diagnose the Crisis in the Church. In the interpretation of modernism von Hildebrand’s thought is given priority over St. Pius X’s, what is a serious flaw, as these two differ significantly in their approach to philosophy. Further, the Author avoids to show that phenomenology and metaphysics of St. Thomas differ essentially, what is also a flaw. The Author also omits to add that von Hildebrand’s words on the beauty of the Catholic liturgy addresses the Tridentine Mass. About the New one he spoke in The Devastated Vineyard: “Truly if one of the devils in C.S. Lewis’ Screwtape letters had been entrusted with the ruin of the liturgy, he could not have done it better” . This omission is misleading and disturbing. The work follows the common flaw: essential inconsistencies of von Hildebrand’s philosophy are neglected and the fact that he was a devout Catholic makes him an authority.

Opis:
Dietrich von Hildebrand already at the beginning of the twentieth century published two works which contributed to the pending debate on particular aspects of Catholic marriage. The major concern of authors involved was spectrum of issues regarding love in marriage and the purpose of marriage defined as proles, fides, sacramentum. The aftermaths of that debate, according to interpreters, are reflected in a contemporary teaching on marriage, especially in its point regarding the ends of marriage. In this paper we present to how extend D. von Hildebrand developed the new stance on the purpose of marriage. He decided to speak when noticed that the traditional teaching on marriage contain flaws, or that love is neglected in teaching on marriage. In what follows we expose the following: von Hildebrand's disagreement with Aquinas, novum in von Hildebrand's writings, reception of his thought. Next, on the basis of source materials we point out that von Hildebrand employs the new word „meaning” in explaing the role of love in marriage. We show that there is a question what this word exactly would signify and how to adjust von Hildebrand's vocabulary to the Latin notions in which the teaching on marriage is formulated. In the last part we present how interpreters understand von Hildebrand's reflection. We turn to both, the early reception of his thought and to interpretations offered by contemporary authors. Our final conclusion is that voices who recognize von Hildebrand amongst influential authors on the matter are justified, and have their background in source texts.

Opis:
In this paper we posit the question which seems to be the natural implication of von Hildebrand's adherence to Catholicism. Especially, when philosophy is concerned one cannot escape the issue. Hence, we gather materials which help to answer the question what was D. von Hildebrand's stance on metaphysics of St. Thomas. We attempt to show to what extend von Hildebrand was acquianted with philosophy of Aquinas, further, what was his opinion on philosophers who represented the school of Aquinas, and how did he perceive his phenomenology in confrontation with metaphysics. We also present the context of employed by von Hildebrand phrases as „fortress of Thomism” and „narrowness” of integrists. They contribute much to the overall picture. We notice that von Hildebrand kept on loving truth, the Catholic Church and especially the Latin Mass out of the attachment to the philosophical.
