    The paper presents the developments in the religious situation in the Czech Lands (especially in East Bohemia) in the 18th century before the Edict of Tolerance (1781). It is necessary to reflect on the official confessional politics of the ruling Habsburg dynasty and the single official Church as well as to present a real picture of the religious situation in the various parts of the Czech Lands.

    Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832) is considered as one of the most influential cultural figures of his age. His literary work attracted composers throughout the 19th century and beyond. Goethe himself appreciated musical settings of his literary works, as, in his opinion, lyrical poetry without music did not seem complete. One of the numerous composers who tackled Goethe’s words was Zdeněk Fibich (1850–1900), a Bohemian composer whose name is strongly associated with the genres of opera and melodrama. However, only little is known about his primary compositional attempts in the area of songs. Inspired by settings of Schubert and Schumann the composer was addressed by German poets such as Rückert, Heine, Eichendorff and Goethe. Moreover, song settings to both German and Czech literary models were emerging throughout Fibich’s life. Similarly to Schubert, Fibich’s first Lieder are dated back to his teen hood. Gefunden, Fibich’s first musical encounter with Goethe, was written as early as 1865. In my paper, I have examined nine settings to Wilhelm Meister Lehrjahren, which originated between 16 and 21 April 1871. Numerous reasons led me to examine these particular songs. Firstly, Fibich’s Goethe settings have been neglected by musicologists as well as performers. None of eleven vocal pieces have been published or recorded to date. Secondly, there is need for a comparative study of these songs with other settings to Goethe. My research addresses the lacuna in the 19th century song studies while asking the following questions: Do the songs have much to offer in comparison to songs by Schubert, Schumann, Wolf and others? What stands behind the omission of the songs? This paper is a starting point in uncovering the significance of forgotten Fibich’s Goethe settings.
    Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) jest uważany za jedną z najbardziej wpływowych postaci kultury swego czasu, a jego dorobek literacki inspirował wielu kompozytorów dziewiętnastowiecznych i późniejszych. Sam Goethe cenił muzyczne opracowania swoich dzieł, gdyż jego zdaniem poezja bez muzyki nie wydawała się kompletna. Jednym z wielu kompozytorów, którzy inspirowali się wierszami Goethego, był Zdeněk Fibich (1850 1900), czeski kompozytor, którego nazwisko mocno związane jest z gatunkami opery i melodramatu. Niewiele jednak wiadomo o jego pierwszych próbach kompozytorskich w dziedzinie pieśni. Zainspirowany opracowaniami Schuberta i Schumanna kompozytor cenił takich niemieckich poetów, jak Rückert, Heine, Eichendorff i Goethe. Ponadto podczas całego życia Fibich sięgał po teksty poetów niemieckich i czeskich. Podobnie jak w przypadku Schuberta, pierwsze Lieder Fibicha pochodzą z czasów, kiedy Kompozytor był nastolatkiem. Gefunden, jego pierwsze muzyczne opracowanie tekstu Goethego, powstało już w 1865 roku. W niniejszym artykule przestudiowałem dziewięć opracowań tekstu Wilhelm Meister Lehrjahren, które powstały między 16 a 21 kwietnia 1871 roku. Do zbadania tych konkretnych pieśni skłoniły mnie liczne powody. Po pierwsze, utwory Fibicha do tekstów Goethego były długo zaniedbywane zarówno przez muzykologów, jak i wykonawców – dotychczas żaden z jedenastu utworów wokalnych nie został wydany ani zarejestrowany. Po drugie, potrzebne jest przeprowadzenie porównawczych studiów zestawiających te pieśni z innymi opracowaniami tekstów Goethego. Moje badania mają na celu wypełnić lukę, jaka powstała w badaniach nad gatunkiem pieśni w XIX wieku oraz odpowiedzieć na zaistniałe pytania: Jak pieśni Fibicha wypadają w porównaniu z pieśniami Schuberta, Schumanna, Wolfa i innych? Dlaczego dotychczas nie zostały przebadane? Ten artykuł został zamierzony jako punkt wyjścia dla ustalenia znaczenia zapomnianych pieśni Fibicha do tekstów Goethego.

    Autor práce se zabývá dvěma literárně-historickými monografiemi Libora Martinka. Tento český literární vědec je znám především jako odborník na slezský literární regionalismus. Tento kontext je také založen na studiu dvou významných osobností, které tvoří českou literaturu v jiném (polském, lašském) jazyce. Pro Martinka je důležitá důkladná znalost faktů a znalost textů primární a sekundární literatury. Znalost světové literární teorie mu také umožňuje provést přiměřené interpretace uměleckých textů. Takže může doložit místo dané osobnosti v literární historii nebo také dluh, který má vůči ní česká literatura.
    The author of the study deals with two literary-historical monographs of Libor Martinek. This Czech literary scientist is known above all as an expert in Silesian (Teschen) literary regionalism. This context is also based on the study of two distinguished personalities of Czech literature writing in another (Polish, Lachian) language. For Martinka there is an important thorough knowledge of facts or familiarity with the texts of primary and secondary literature. Familiarity with world literary theory also allows him to make adequate interpretations of artistic texts. So he can pronounce a fair trial about the place of a personality in literary history or the debt that Czech literature has so far.

    The economic boom, driven by the demand for slaves and furs in the countries of the Middle East and Middle Asia, the Maghreb and al-Andalus, and the resultant silver fl ows coming into the peripheral zone of Europe, permitted or facilitated the formation of early centres of power. In Wielkopolska, fur from tributes and people captured during raiding expeditions were traded for ores and luxury goods. These, in turn, were used to pay for the retinue (družina). Therefore, prestige and silver constituted the basis of ‘central’ power, conditioned the support for the power and thus its continued reign. The Czech lands were an important link in the transcontinental trade connecting Khazaria and Hungary with al Andalus. The Přemyslids’ power relied heavily on the income arising from the control over the routes passing through Prague. Nevertheless, their reign, notably Boleslav I’s, was also founded upon the organisation of slave export, a factor driving and regulating the Bohemian political economy throughout the second half of the tenth century.

    Opis:
    Professional and scholarly periodicals aimed at library professionals undoubtedly make a significant contribution to the development of librarianship and the evolution of book science. Therefore, the purpose of the article was to outline a panorama of the journalism of the library community in the Czech lands in the 1st half of the 20th century. The reasons for the creation of individual titles, their creators, structure and other formal elements were presented. The subject matter of four professional periodicals was also addressed: "Českeho knihovnictví", "Kniha", "Knih a knihoven" and "Časopis Československých Knihovniků" and one scientific journal - "Slovanská Knihověda".

    Artykuł koncentruje się na wezwaniach Jana Pawła II dotyczących czeskiego ekumenizmu. Omawia je w trzech punktach: po pierwsze, poprzez prezentację charakterystyki ekumenizmu przez Karola Wojtyłę, następnie naświetla eklezjalny i społeczny kontekst, w którym były odbierane wezwania Jana Pawła II o jedność chrześcijan w Czechach w latach dziewięćdziesiątych, wreszcie, przedstawia trzy najważniejsze tematy ekumeniczne w nauczaniu papieża. Zastosowana metoda pozwala nam dostrzec, jak ogólne zasady Jana Pawła II dotyczące wysiłków ekumenicznych były manifestowane w jego pastoralnej trosce o Kościół lokalny i jedność chrześcijan w Czechach i na Morawach.
    The present text focuses on the appeals of John Paul II regarding Czech Ecumenism. It does so in three steps: first, it offers general characteristics of Wojtyła’s understanding of ecumenism; then it outlines the social and ecclesiastic context in which the Pope’s calls for Christian unity in the Czech Republic were received during the 1990s; and, finally, it presents three topics of the Pope’s most important ecumenical appeals. The chosen method allows us to see how the universally-applicable principles of John Paul II’s ecumenical efforts were manifested in his specific pastoral concerns about the local Church and Christian unity in Bohemia and Moravia.
