Opis:
Nakon 1990. u poljskim prijevodima hrvatske književnosti prijevodi hrvatskog ratnog pisma zauzimaju relativno malo mjesta. Na području lirike najznačajnija publikacija je prijevod Stamaćeve i Sanaderove zbirke "U ovom strašnom času. Antologija hrvatske ratne lirike".
After 1990 the translations of the Croatian war writings relatively seldom appear in Polish translations of Croatian literature. In the realm of lyrics the translation of Stamać & Sanader‘s book "U ovom strašnom času. Antologija hrvatske ratne lirike" is the most importanat publication. In this article two translations of Tadijanović‘ poem entitled "Molba munji nebeskoj" are analysed. The authoress of the first translation Muriel Kordowicz has translated the poem in the above mentioned antology, the author of the second one Julian Kornhauser has published his own translations of Tadijanović‘ poem in the magazine „Literatura na Świecie”. In the recapitulation of this analysis the statement of two different translators‘ strategies is given. The Kordowicz‘ translation is an example of philological model of translation and the Kornhauser‘s translation is an example of transpositional-modulational one.

Does the musicality of the Josip Sever`s poem "klišej kiše" come through in the translation? The text "Has the music gone from Josip Sever`s work?" illustrates the influence of the translation process on textual levels of musicality: the sound sphere (consciously formed in relation to music) and making music a theme. It is mainly based on Polish post-war musico-literary studies, especially Andrzej Hejmej’s theory from the book "Musicality of a literary work".

Language imperialism and political correctnessIn the times of general globalization, in its part that considers languages, especially the so-called small languages, we can talk not only about an uncontrolled inroad of mainly English words into all walks of life within a society, but also about elements of linguistic imperialism. That imperialism has come about through technology, not by arms and blazing swords, as was mostly the case in history. In addition, the USA – the exporting country of the above mentioned language-imperialistic phenomena around the world, is considered to be the cradle of the much advocated political correctness, which should include basic human rights, one of which is undoubtedly the right to a proper name.It could be argued whether this right is always respected: I will show some examples of proper names of immigrants who had to/wanted to renounce their names in order to be Americanized (‘‘cooked in the American melting pot’’). Thus, the Croatian Krešo became Chris, Eva is spelled Eve on the other side of the pond (pronounced /I:v/), and in the global (American) news Michael Stich, a German, is pronounced /majkl stits/, and so on.I will also provide an example of political correctness which is not far from sheer stupidity.Political correctness itself changes with time, which will be illustrated by the Croatian example Ciganin – Rom (Gipsy – Roma(ny)).

Forgetting synonyms: on the “jokerization” of everyday languageThe democratization of social relations can bring about linguistic liberalization, where the effectiveness and speed of transmitting information are of utmost importance. Wherever possible, information is presented in a condensed form, as an icon or a gesture. When speaking, we increasingly rely on a limited vocabulary, using very polysemous and broad terms. Such terms undergo jokerization – they begin functioning as wild cards in a card game, being able to represent any other cards depending on the current needs. In addition to internationalisms, which appear as jokers as a matter of course (e.g. Polish super ‘great’ and ekstra ‘great’), native words may also be used as jokers. In this case, in addition to their core meaning, they develop a new joker meaning signaled by new formal features, such as loss of inflections (cf. Croatian mrak lit. ‘dark’, joker ‘great’; guba lit. ‘leprosy’, joker ‘great’). When used in this way, they may form new derivational chains, becoming, in a way, less universal and resisting analytic tendencies. By the same token, derivational morphemes may also acquire joker meanings (e.g. the Croatian naj-).Jokerization, which is based on replacing a synonym chain with a single all-encompassing word, does not prevent communication, but does impoverish it. It is an intermediate stage between verbal and non-verbal communication. This process, common in spoken language, is examined, and illustrations are drawn from computer blogs and forums.

A contrastive view of adjectives in Croatian, Polish and English: subjectification as a local phenomenonA study of English adjectives (Athanasiadou 2006) suggested that subjectification (defined as the degree to which the conceptualizer plays a role in construing the objective scene; Langacker 2000) may be helpful in examining the various uses of adjectives in English. In this paper we attempt to do the same, comparing and contrasting three languages: English (as the point of reference), and Croatian and Polish. Croatian and Polish were selected because they allow relatively free combinations, with the caveat that Polish uses postposition for classifying senses. We examine whether subjectification may be taken as the organizing principle behind the prenominal, postnominal and predicative positions found in the three languages, i.e. whether the role of subjectification is global – working across constructions, or local – working within a construction. Examples from three languages showed that although subjectification does play a role in the various positions, it may not be taken as the organizing principle behind the differences. We argue that this is due to the fact that subjectification is a local phenomenon which works within a single construction, which is delimited formally and functionally. This is corroborated by other subjectified constructions. We believe that this is due to the gradual nature of subjectification, which requires recoverable links to previous stages.

One of the distinctive traits of Romantic literature was its frenetic feverishness and frightening otherness, the embodiment of which was, among many other beings, the vampire. This character in neo-Romantic contexts was sometimes invoked by the representatives of Croatian poetry of the late twentieth century. However, in its different currents it performed a different task. War and martyrdom poetry collected in the anthology “U ovom strašnom času” used the specter for the creation of a portrait of the enemy, while using the familiar clichés of Renaissance variant of Croatian romanticism. Branko Maleš’ vampiric themes merge into an indivisible whole with references to contemporary consumerism and co-create an ironic self-portrait of a postmodern neo-Romanticist. Maleš reaches for the themes of romantic strangeness and deconstructs them in a ludic manner.

Croatian higher education policy is in line with the changes which will occur after Croatia joins the EU. The country has been harmonising its policy with the Lisbon objectives, the Bologna Declaration and the other EU documents, and has been developing its national qualifications framework (NQF), which is modelled after the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) as an instrument which will facilitate validation, harmonisation, comparison and measurability of learning outcomes, and is aimed at personal development, development of social inclusiveness, facilitation of lifelong learning, and recognition of acquired qualifications (diplomas) on both the national and the European level. In this context, significant changes have taken place in the higher education sector, especially in the education and training of teachers who are entrusted with a responsible task of reconceptualising upbringing and education towards sustainable development. Therefore, from both the global and the national perspective, there is an effort to raise awareness about the importance of teacher competences development, curriculum modifications and adaptations in the context of the Bologna process, and the development of a national qualifications framework. The development of teacher competences through initial education and their professional development, as well as the need for pupils/students to assume the central position in the education process, are being identified as the determinants of a qualitative change of schools in general. The importance of acquiring additional qualifications through post-graduate studies is being highlighted with the purpose of teachers' continuous professional development.

This paper deals with certain morphosemantic relations between Croatian verbs and discusses their inclusion in Croatian WordNet. The morphosemantic relations in question are the semantic relations between unprefixed infinitives and their prefixed derivatives. We introduce the criteria for the division of aspectual pairs and further discuss verb prefixation which results in combinations of prefixes and base forms that can vary in terms of meaning from compositional to completely idiosyncratic. The focus is on the regularities in semantic modifications of base forms modified by one prefix. The aim of this procedure is to establish a set of morphosemantic relations based on regular or reoccuring meaning alternations.

European models for the Croatian language handbooks in the 18th centuryUntil the 19th century Croatian language handbooks, namely grammars, dictionaries and ortography books, were mostly bilingual and multilingual. Only at the begining of the 19th century was the first grammar of Croatian written in Croatian published, and in the second half of the same century the first monolingual dictionary – Academy’s Dictionary was published. The origin of this is not in the language itself. When writing these multilanguage handbooks, the authors followed domestic predecessors, as well as foreign. This work is an attempt to reveal those foreign language models that Croatian linguists in the 18th century followed and on the example of one metalexicographic theme – usage labels – to show development of Croatian 18th century lexicography within the European lexicography.

This  paper  presents  the  lexical  and  linguistic  characteristics  of  absolution  of  sins  in  the Croatian Church Slavonic Klimantović’s Miscellany I, in which the patterns of release and absolution from sin are powerful oral mechanism adjusted to population of that time. In the analysis,  the author  used  her  own  transliteration  of  the  miscellany.  Considered  are  the sacraments of reconciliation in chapters 32. Otrišenie op’ĉeno, 36. Ovo ẽod’rišenie od’rišiti od’ velikoga prok’lats’tvaand 37.  Ovo estьod’rišenie od’rišiti nemoĉnika muž’ku i žen’sku gl vu.  The  study shows  how  much  the  language  is  considered archaic  in  those  chapters  as well as how much there are younger lexical influences, conditioned primarily by neighborly contacts  that  influenced vernacular.  Archaic  features  of  the  vocabulary  are  recorded  in domestic  words  from  Protoslavic period  as  well  as  from  dialectal  Protoslavic  layers,  with a  significant  number  of  Moravisms (West  Slavic  lexemes)  such  as  zakonь,  suffix  -kratь, adjective nebes’ki, verb otpustiti. Contribution to that are loanwords from Protoslavic period. Among other linguistic features, confirmations of archaic features are the older verb present tense forms -ši. The rejuvenation of lexis is obvious in the influence of vernacular on texts of absolution  –  in  many  Italianisms  that  entered into  our  system  directly  through  Čakavian dialect such as  eneralь, pun’ta, purgatorii, and in numerous Croatisms as a result of direct influence of vernacular which is not part of a joint Church Slavonic and Croatian lexis such as personal pronoun  ĵa,  the  dative  singular  mani,  interrogative pronoun  čakoli,  connective ako.  Also,  among  other  linguistic  features  are  present for  example younger  suffixes  -ega, -oga of the genitive singular of adjectives and pronouns.
