Opis:
A close connection between anthropological and theological dimension of marriage triggers a series of problems and requirements in the key of Christian ethics. Marriage as a good gift from the Creator, granted in the divine act of creation (cf. Genesis 1, 26-27), is a natural institution raised by Christ to the dignity of a sacrament. As a result, it constitutes a research subject of both secular and theological sciences, including canon law. As a natural institution, in the Old Testament it is a symbol of the covenant of God’s love to Israel, which confirms its greatness and at the same time is a challenge to cooperate in the act of creation with God (cf. Genesis 1, 28). With time, as a privileged creation of the Creator, marriage received special attention of Jesus Christ, who developed its meaning and importance in the key of new covenant of love between Christ and Church. In the message of St. Paul, marriage not only symbolizes the covenant of God’s love to humans, but is also “a realistic renewal” of this covenant of love (cf. Ephesians 5, 31-32). Thereby, marriage created by the Creator at the beginning of history, reaches in the covenant between Christ and Church (new God’s people) its sacramental dimension as an institution “reconstructing” God’s love to humans. This unique value constitutes for a man and woman, united in marriage, a requirement of faithfulness and permanence of their covenant, modeled of the covenant of God’s love to humans. As far as the unity and indissolubility of marriage is concerned, over the centuries the Christian tradition has taken note of a number of examples of faithful obedience and drastic failure to comply with the rules of marriage. Cultural changes in our century clearly indicate drastic changes in the institution of marriage and family, not only in religious, but also natural dimension and lead to dehumanization of the human person. The destruction of marriage and family as fundamental units of society, leads to its impairment and degradation in cultural and existential aspect.

Opis:
The article talks about the actions of God as described by prophet Hosea in Hos 2: 16-25, which are the consequence of the sin and the unfaithfulness shown by Israel to God. Despite the fact that Israel's sin of should be met with punishment from God, Hosea predicts God's mercy. To formulate this, the prophet applies a rare idiomatic Hebrew expression על־לב דבר, which could be translated as talking kindly to the heart. The article conducts a short analysis of nine instances in the Bible in which this expression has been used, underlining the difficulties and lack of consequences in translating this expression to Polish. Subsequently, an interpretation of על־לב דבר, as applied by Hosea in the above mentioned passage, was carried out. The explanation of the idiom has as its aim a more profound understanding of the message conveyed in the selected excerpt. The use of the image of marriage in this text, which is accompanied by forgiveness to an unfaithful wife, became for Hosea an illustration of mercy that God shows to His believers.

Opis:
The moral standards presented in the Bible are unveiling themselves in the process of the cultural and the theological development. Quite frequently the biblical morality stands in the context of an idea of the Covenant. Eventually in the very heart of the biblical ethic we’re finding values which were fundamental for a specific kind of a human existence and human way to God. The way the Bible understands as the Covenant which is constructed on the primary and the constitutive gift of a relation between the human being and God. The theologians of the Covenant are pointing out universal ethical conclusions even thou those findings are connected with only one nation chosen by God. At the culmination point of the development of the Covenant idea, in the New Testament proclaiming, takes place an annunciation of morality which has its core in the law of love. This kind of law is understood as a new creatio. Its essence is a dynamic character of morality which comes from an unchanging moral rules. God – staying unchangeable in His gift of morality – allows the human understanding of the gift of love to mature continually in fluently changing historical reality.

Opis:
Within the frames of contemporary Christology, which has returned to patristic tradition, it is once again emphasised that the obedience constitutes the highest manifestation of life and message of Jesus Christ. It is in obedience where personal identification of the being and mission of Jesus, expressing His relation with God the Father and defining His exceptionality, finds its realisation. This perspective allows a profound interpretation of Jesus’s work for the benefit of man, which goes beyond all immanent reductions. This view becomes also a starting point for the appropriate understanding and interpretation of the act of salvation and by the same token of the new covenant with God. This article presents the obedience of Christ in relation to the mystery and history of the covenant which constitutes, to some extent, an introduction to the correct representation of the form and content of this obedience and simultaneously to determination of its soteriological meaning.

Mission and Ministry in Covenant
Opis:
The article presents the latest proposal by the Church of England and Methodist Church Faith and Order bodies to restore Anglican–Methodist unity in Great Britain. If mutually adopted, the document titled Mission and Ministry in Covenant would enable the introduction of episcopacy in the British Methodist Church, the presbyteral ordination of Methodist ministers by a bishop, and—as a result—the mutual recognition and interchangeability of presbyteral ministry in both Churches. The proposal concerning the introduction of episcopal ordination in the Methodist Church recommends ordination to the episcopacy of each elected President of Methodist Conference. Thus ordained, the President-bishop would then ordain Methodist presbyters. As regards the Methodist presbyters who were not episcopally ordained, the document proposes the recognition of their ministry by the Church of England in the terms of “bearable anomaly.” Yet, such a solution poses many questions and gives rise to theological doubts.

Opis:
This article draws attention to two important values that are relatedto marriage. The first of them is love, which is a feature of marriage, and which is oriented on bearing and raising offspring who require responsible parenthood. The second is mercy, which is a prerequisite in marriage itself and a duty of the Church in its pastoral care of marriages facing difficulties which weaken their love and break their sacramental unity. These two values: love and mercy, considered in the context of sacramental marriage, are in a significant relation to covenant between God and human being and in relation to the covenant between Christ and the Church. Comparing these two God’s covenants with human being in the Old and New Testament with sacramental marriage leads to a clear conclusion that marriage seems as truly reflecting the covenant between Christ and the Church (cf. Ephesians 5, 21-33). In this part marriage is considered as good and sacred gift of God given to humans both for their best interests of one another and for social good. For marriage itself is a significant source of family which, in turn, is the fundamental unit of the society and nation. Since family finds its source in conjugal unity the care of Church and the state should be directed at the good of marriage and family. Such care should be displayed especially in situations in which the unity of marriage is endangered and which may lead to family breakdown.

The article focuses on the theme of return/conversion in the Book of Hosea. The issue is presented from the perspective of the two parties of the covenant: God and Israel. At the starting point lies Israel’s refusal to return to God, and Yahweh’s threatening, punitive retribution to his people. The ending focuses on the conversion of the people to Yahweh, a development possible only owing to God’s preceding forgiveness, expressed by his turn to his people. These four different dynamics of return are reconstructed on the basis of the twenty-two instances of the verb šûb in the Book of Hosea.

Opis:
For understanding of arguments of Moses’ Law it is necessary to know geografical, historical, economical and social conditions and first of all the religious atmosphere of Israel of that time. The religious element gives this law a universal value and that is why it frames the background for future evangelic law.I. Texts of Law: Included in Pentateuchus do not compose a uniform, whole, however the egzegets, by using literary and historical criteria arranged them into certain collections. Those collections, quoad substantiam, should be refered to Moses’ epoch though final compositions could have been done in later times.II. The law is a result of synaic covenant. The evidence are: a) names of law: Tôrah, ʽedût, Dābār define the theological aspect of law and are taken from religious life. Tôrah is a doctrine discovered by Jahwe, ʽedût is a protocol of concluded covenant, Dābār defines detailed rules of manifested law. Juridical vocabulary is represented by: Mišepatîm, Huqqîm, Mieewāh and other. Their contents are taken from custom life in Moses’ Law filled with religious spirit. b) contents of covenant an Synai: It is an agreement of conditional character dependet an peoples conduct. The conduct is regulated by Law so breaking of Law at the some time means breaking of covenant. Conclusion: The Law is a given will of Jahwe regulating the life of Israel and by that preparing the time of redemption.III. The Law demands holinees of double meaning: a) Holinees as moral perfection is demanded by moral law. It cannot be stated here as if Israelits in those days had no elaborated idea of holinees. Such opinion contradicts with the contents of Genesis and well carried egzegesis of law. b) Holinees as legal chastity is demanded by ceremonial law. The law regarding offering whose task is to restore lost chastity play an importand role. Conclusion: Law is a measure for educating holy nation. Legal chastity is to remind and secure moral sanctity. IV. The Old Law as the type of New. One should seek the basis of such typology: a) among prophets, who speaking about new covenant and law refer to the old, b) in from beyond biblical iudaistic tradition, c) in promises of the Gospel of St. Matthews, d) in letters of St. Paul, e) in statements of Fathers and writers of the Church. Conclusion: Finis legis Christus (Rom. 10, 4).

Just as a small amount of salt can significantly improve the taste of food, so kindness and peace have a positive impact on the relationship in the community of the disciples of Jesus.

The present article aims at a comparative analysis amongst four legends constructed around the same myth i.e. the myth of construction that requires a sacrifice: the Romanian ballad about the construction of the monastery in Argeș, Wallachia; the Hungarian ballad about the construction of the fortress of Deva in Transylvania, Romania; the Welsh legend of Dynas Emrys; and the Georgian legend about the construction of the Surami fortress. The legends represent the sacrifice in different ways. In the Romanian ballad, a woman and her child are walled in a church; in the Hungarian version, a woman is burnt, and her ashes are walled in; in the Welsh legend, the sacrifice is avoided, and in the Georgian one, it is transformed into self-sacrifice. Moreover, through a comparative analysis of different versions of the Bible, we shall emphasise the importance of the building of the city of Jericho, the significance of curse and sacrifice in both the beginning and the proliferation of the myth. For our research, we shall use the methodology devised by Mircea Eliade in his book about the myth of sacrifice ("Meșterul manole. Studii de etnologie și mitologie"), as well as the works of Professor Trumbull, "The threshold covenant" and "The blood covenant". One of the main conclusions of our article is that nothing that is human-made has a soul, and it can only last if it only acquires a soul. Hence the need for sacrifice that has been part of human history since times immemorial. Any revisitation of this myth can only bring people together and thus emphasise the things people and peoples have in common, and that can only lead to a better understanding of the Other.

Opis:
The author analyzes the transformation of the most ancient Christian tradition, the transformation described in the Letter to the Hebrews. It consists in the fact that the death and resurrection of Jesus are a consecration of the High Pries of the New Covenant. The crucified and resurrected Christ is an anti-type of the High Priest of the Old Covenant. A High Priest is a Mediator and Leader who may not only show the way to the House of the Father. As the only-begotten Son of God He has the right to usher others into it (cf. J 14, 6-9). Through His passion and death Jesus had been transformed and became the perfect High Priest. Thus ”made perfect” (Heb 2, 10), that is, crucified and resurrected Jesus, was made the Head of people and their Leader to salvation. In other words, God made Him the High Priest. The passion and death of Jesus were in fact an exceptional and unique kind of consecrating the High Priest of the New Covenant.
