The article presents the problem of modeling and knowledge representation for the processing of contextual knowledge, i.e. unstructured, variable, and deriving from many sources. The author emphasizes the importance of grounded theory treated as an analytical tool prior to modeling this kind of knowledge.

Opis:
Celem niniejszego opracowania jest analiza problematyki dotyczącej modelowania kontekstowej wiedzy o użytkowniku z zastosowaniem rozwiązań semantycznych, w szczególności języków opisu ontologii. W pierwszym rozdziale zaprezentowano techniki modelowania wiedzy o użytkowniku. W rozdziale drugim ukazano typologię kontekstu, w jakim taka wiedza może być kodyfikowana. W końcowej części opracowania podjęto problematykę zastosowania języków opisu ontologii w modelowaniu kontekstowej wiedzy o użytkowniku oraz zaprezentowano propozycję ontologii pozwalającej opisać kontekst przestrzenny w języku OWL.
The use of computer systems today is focused on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the organization and decision-makers. To make this possible it is necessary to create solutions that support the processing of not only data and information but also knowledge. IT solutions may be responsible for collecting the knowledge about the user, its processing, allocation, sharing. Thanks to their use the message formulated to the user cease to be merely a reflection of numerical information, it becomes personalized and multimedia. Thus, the participant becomes a part of such an "active environment", which examines our behavior and take appropriate action in a given context. The purpose of this study is to analyze the issues concerning user modeling knowledge using semantic solutions in particular ontology description languages. The first chapter will present the modeling techniques of knowledge about the user. The second chapter will concentrate on typology of the context in which this knowledge can be codified. At the end of the issue of ontology description languages for modeling contextual knowledge about the user will be taken, and the proposal of allowing ontologies to describe the spatial context of the system of knowledge in OWL will be presented.

The paper consists of the review of a number of academic approaches to interdisciplinary research as represented by the Polish theorists of literature (Andrzej Hejmej, Michał P. Zrozumienie procesu tworzenia i transferu wiedzy wymaga nie tylko uwzględnienia jego aspektów w płaszczyźnie epistemologicznej, lecz także ontologicznej. W tej sytuacji wzrasta znaczenie kontekstu, tj. społeczno-kulturowego środowiska, w którym przebiega proces tworzenia wiedzy. Stanowi ono z jednej strony określone ramy determinujące współpracę jednostek, z drugiej natomiast definiuje granice transferu na zewnątrz wiedzy cichej. Przykładem tak rozumianego kontekstu tworzenia wiedzy jest wspólnota. W artykule zanalizowano podstawowe uwarunkowania procesu tworzenia i transferu wiedzy w płaszczyźnie epistemologicznej oraz ontologicznej, a także przedstawiono jego przebieg na przykładzie wspólnoty wiedzy.

The intelligent decision making requires the consideration of current contextual information. The article is devoted to construction of formal models for the presentation and usage of contextual information for decision-making in the field of employment. The paper analyses existing approaches to the definition of the concept of context at the conceptual level. The results of comparison of formal context models taking into consideration the requirements for employment business processes are presented. The ontological approach is selected as a basis for contextual models specification. The paper presents the formal representation of the context models for business operations of the employment sector. The model of contextual graphs for the solution of the problem of employment business operations context refinement was developed.

Opis:
A context pattern is a frequent subsequence mined from the context database containing set of sequences. This kind of sequential patterns and all elements inside them are described by additional sets of context attributes e.g. continuous ones. The contexts describe circumstances of transactions and sources of sequential data. These patterns can be mined by an algorithm for the context based sequential pattern mining. However, this can create large sets of patterns because all contexts related to patterns are taken from the database. The goal of the generalization method is to reduce the context pattern set by introducing a more compact and descriptive kind of patterns. This is achieved by finding clusters of similar context patterns in the mined set and transforming them to a smaller set of generalized context patterns. This process has to retain as much as possible information from the mined context patterns. This paper introduces a definition of the generalized context pattern and the related algorithm. Results from the generalization may differ as depending on the algorithm design and settings. Hence, generalized patterns may reflect frequent information from the context database differently. Thus, an accuracy measure is also proposed to evaluate the generalized patterns. This measure is used in the experiments presented. The generalized context patterns are compared to patterns mined by the basic sequential patterns mining with prediscretization of context values.

Opis:
Rules are a common symbolic model of knowledge. Rule-based systems share roots in cognitive science and artificial intelligence. In the former, they are mostly used in cognitive architectures; in the latter, they are developed in several domains including knowledge engineering and machine learning. This paper aims to give an overview of these issues with the focus on the current research perspective of artificial intelligence. Moreover, in this setting we discuss our results in the design of rule-based systems and their applications in context-aware and business intelligence systems.

Communicative approaches to language teaching assume the learning occurs as a by-product of communication. The present study explores this issue experimentally, examining the phenomenon of implicit learning among Polish learners of English. The study focuses on learning to apply new English words in semantically appropriate contexts. Whether the learning is implicit or not is determined using subjective measures of awareness (following Z. Dienes/ R. Scott 2005). Polish learners of English read English sentences containing 4 target words. Next they completed an unexpected test on new sentences in which they were asked to indicate whether target words were used correctly and to provide confidence and source judgements to each answer, as subjective measures of awareness (guess/ intuition responses taken as reflecting implicit knowledge). The experimental group was compared with a control group who did not receive training. Findings include significantly above chance performance on guess/ intuition responses in both groups, with an advantage in the experimental group that approached significance, suggesting that this group may have indeed implicitly learnt about the applicable semantic contexts for the newly learnt words. The learning effect did not extend to appropriate but semantically different contexts to the ones participants saw in training, suggesting implicit learning is restricted in its scope. Educators must therefore ensure to provide representative sentence samples when introducing new words and may need to explicitly point out any contexts which semantically diverge from the ones the students were exposed to.

The paper discusses the results of experiments with a new context extension of a sequential pattern mining problem. In this extension, two kinds of context attributes are introduced for describing the source of a sequence and for each element inside this sequence. Such context based sequential patterns may be discovered by a new algorithm, called Context Mapping Improved, specific for handling attributes with similarity functions. For numerical attributes an alternative approach could include their pre-discretization, transforming discrete values into artificial items and, then, using an adaptation of an algorithm for mining sequential patterns from nominal items. The aim of this paper is to experimentally compare these two approaches to mine artificially generated sequence databases with numerical context attributes where several reference patterns are hidden. The results of experiments show that the Context Mapping Improved algorithm has led to better re-discovery of reference patterns. Moreover, a new measure for comparing two sets of context based patterns is introduced.
