The narratives included in this article were collected within the framework of the project “We Support Senior Citizens in the Local Environment-Culture as an Element of the Identity of the Elderly”, implemented in the Daily Care Home of the Local Support Center in Gdańsk in 2016. They are the result of the author’s personal observations of seniors being in need of telling their past, sharing it, and at the same time sorting it out, and reconciling themselves with the difficult moments in their lives. There is also a need for reflection on one’s past, which gives power and strength to go on in life. In other words, who and/or what makes you want to live and even enjoy life? What is resilience in my life? Remaining impressed by the power of their stories, the stories of people who in the moments of difficulty and pain were able to say: ‘I want to live’, and asking them to reflect on the past, I came to realize what it is that determines the sources to keep the resilience described below and the ability to regenerate.

Opis:
The description and explanation of human behavior in behavioral psychology is conducted according to nonhuman animal model. This field of science is based on primary learning processes such as classical and operant conditioning, which were discovered due to research on animals. Therefore, many U.S. colleges and universities use animal laboratory experiments in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses of psychology. Decreasing public support for research on live animals, more strict regulations in animal laws and high laboratory maintaining costs caused that alternative ways to demonstrate students the rights of learning and shaping behavior were looked for. Due to the expand of personal computers, programs and virtual models simulating live animals behavior were developed. The most popular one and currently most accessible is „Sniffy, the virtual rat”. The paper discusses the possibility of using the program in teaching. Moreover, the results of two surveys on using live versus virtual animals in didactics of behavioral psychology, carried out among students, are presented and discussed.

The examinations presented in this article aim at illustrating some possibilities of applying instruments for computational fluid dynamics to assess thermal comfort on the example of a lecture hall in the building of the Institute of Building Engineering at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. The obtained results have been subjected to an analysis according to the guidelines provided in the PN-EN ISO 7730:2006 norm. For the air heating system used in the hall, the distributions of velocity, temperature, as well as the PMV and PDD indices have been subjected to an analysis, with a particular focus on the optimal temperature of the air inflow.

Opis:
Sludge conditioning is an important stage in sludge management. In the present study, a sequence of freeze/thaw-electro-Fenton process was designed and specific resistance filtration (SRF) was monitored during sludge conditioning as an important factor in sludge dewaterability. Furthermore, protein and polysaccharide concentrations were measured during the experiments. Results showed that the lowest SRF value contributed to −10°C in freezing process which showed a reducing trend by decreasing solution pH. In addition, results revealed that solution pH less than 3 caused a significant improvement in sludge dewatering; so the lowest SRF has been registered at pH = 2. By increasing current intensity from 0.5 to 1A, SRF values were reduced and then followed by an enhancement with increasing current intensity to 3.2 A. The lowest SRF value (6.1 × 104 m/kg) was obtained at H2O2 = 30 mg/L which was the best conditions for sludge dewatering.

Joshua Farris usefully applies my distinction between conditioned and de-conditioned philosophy to some limits of science, and the disclosure of the soul. It is argued that further de-conditioning is conducive to answering the profound philosophical questions: What is it to be now?, and What is it to be? but these answers are only adequate when they entail the existence of God. It follows that physicalism, determinism, and naturalism are false, and that science (knowingly or unknowingly) presupposes theology.

W artykule zostały omówione badania nowych metod kondycjonowania wody termalnej, które zostały wykonane na instalacji geotermalnej w Pyrzycach. Wytypowane w badaniach laboratoryjnych środki chemiczne do kondycjonowania wody termalnej były w pierwszym etapie testowane na bocznym rurociągu na prasce ciśnieniowej, a następnie w warunkach przemysłowych podczas normalnej pracy ciepłowni.
Paper discussed investigation a new methods of conditioning thermal water by chemicals, that performed on a geothermal heating plant in Pyrzyce. The chemicals tested in the first phase were tested on a lateral pipeline and then under industrial conditions during normal operation of the geothermal heating plant.

W artykule omówione zostały nowe metody kondycjonowania wody termalnej za pomocą szeregu środków chemicznych. Testy prowadzone były na wodzie eksploatowanej i wykorzystywanej w ciepłowni geotermalnej w Pyrzycach. Scharakteryzowano działanie geotermii oraz przedstawiono problemy związane z kolmatacją otworów chłonnych. Badano wpływ dozowanych środków chemicznych na zdolność kondycjonowanej wody termalnej do deponowania osadów. Dla najlepiej działających środków wykonano testy ich zdolności do rozpuszczania osadów oraz badano wpływ na korozyjność w stosunku do rur.
Paper discussed new methods of conditioning thermal water by chemicals. The tests were conducted on water used in a geothermal heating plant in Pyrzyce. Paper characterized Geotermy and the problems associated with clogging process in absorptive wellbore. It has been investigated the effect of chemicals on the ability of thermal water to deposit sediment. For the best chemicals prepare tests their ability to dissolve sediments and influence on corrosivity.

Celem artykułu jest pokazanie czytelnikowi użyteczności idei regularyzacji w zmniejszaniu lub dużej redukcji negatywnych skutków występowania złego uwarunkowania danych. Skutki te obserwowano w samym estymatorze metody najmniejszych kwadratów jak i jego statystycznych i numerycznych charakterystykach. Podstawowe analizowane charakterystyki tego estymatora to: MSE, wariancja, próbkowe odchylenie standardowe, próbkowy współczynnik korelacji wielokrotnej (inaczej: współczynnik determinacji), statystyki testu t-Studenta oraz testu F. Zbadano też skutki estymacyjne przeprowadzania takich operacji jak centrowanie, ważenie danych. W celu zmniejszenia negatywnych skutków złego uwarunkowania proponuje się stosowanie estymatorów regulaiyzujących. W omawianym modelu są one zgodne i asymptotycznie normalne.
In the paper we present an analysis of negative effects of ill-condltioning for the performance of LSE. These results will be observed through the behaviour of LSE's variance, MSE, sample standard deviation, sample multiple correlation coefficient., F and t-statistics. We also include some results on ill-conditioning effects induced by data centering, weighting. To overcome those negative effects we propose now versions of regularization criteria for the linear model case. The resultant regularising estimators are consistent and asymptotically normal.

To ensure the proper quality of the air and simultaneously improve the comfort of professional drivers or travellers, the cars are fit with air-conditioning (AC) systems. The AC installations, however, quite often create suitable conditions for the development of microbiological agents and become an active emission source of harmful bioaerosols. This study was carried out in 6 municipal buses in large city located in central Poland. In studied vehicles, ozonisation or manual application of chemical disinfectant in a spray form were used for disinfection of AC bus systems. The concentrations of bacteria and fungi in the air collected in buses before the service of their AC installations were 4.3×102 CFU/m3 and 2.4×102 CFU/m3, respectively. After AC service using both tested disinfection methods, the decrease in microbial concentrations in the air of municipal buses was observed. The highest effectiveness of AC cleaning was noted when the chemical disinfectant in a spray form was used. This study revealed that to eliminate microbiological contamination and, by that, decrease the exposure of both drivers and passengers to harmful microbial contaminants, the chemical disinfection of bus AC system should be performed at regular basis.

Opis:
The study investigates an energy harvesting system utilising rotary motion. The system has three components: a rotary MR damper to vary the damping characteristics, a rotary power generator (energy extractor) producing electrical power, and a conditioning electronics unit to interface directly with the damper and the generator. The objective of the study is to examine the system performance through experiments. The paper outlines the structure of the damper and the generator, provides selected results of examination of the system components and the whole system under idle run and under load for the assumed speed range. The results demonstrate that the system is adaptable to external excitations, does not require an extra power supply and provides a smart solution with potential applications to rotary motion control.

Narracje opracowane w poniższym artykule zostały wykonane w ramach projektu „Wspieramy seniora w środowisku lokalnym – kultura elementem tożsamości starszego człowieka”, realizowanego w Dziennym Domu Pomocy Lokalnego Centrum Wsparcia w Gdańsku w 2016 roku. Wyrosły one z dostrzeganych przeze mnie potrzeb seniorów w opowiadaniu swej przeszłości, dzieleniu się nią i jednocześnie porządkowaniu jej, godzeniu się na jej elementy trudne, których pa- mięć została na zawsze utwierdzona w historii człowieka. Zadaniem, które dostrzegam, jest również potrzeba spojrzenia na własną przeszłość z próbą refleksji nad tym, co daje moc i siłę do życia. Innymi słowy, kto i/lub co pozwala mi żyć, a nawet więcej, chcieć żyć i cieszyć się z życia? Czym jest kategoria resilience w moim życiu? Pozostając pod wrażeniem sił jednostek, których historie obfitujące w bolesne momenty, potrafiły powiedzieć: chce mi się żyć, weszłam w relację, pytając o przeszłość i refleksję nad nią. Podjęłam też próbę określenia źródeł pozwalających zachować opisywaną poniżej prężność, zdolność do regeneracji. Mając na względzie treści powyższe, przyjmuję próbę ukazania doświadczenia rezyliencji narratorów za cel mojego artykułu.
