Opis:
Based on autonomous software agents capable of calculating individual numerical field problems, a distributed method for solving transient field problems is presented. The software agents are running on distributed resources connected via a network and represent a dynamic calculation environment. Communication and data exchange between multiple agents enables their collaboration and allows decisions based on distributed overall knowledge. As unique characteristics, no central unit influences the solution process at any time. The presented simulation example and its evaluated calculation process proves the method to benefit from redundant resources.
W oparciu o autonomiczne agenty programowe zdolne do obliczania indywidualnych numerycznych problemów pola, przedstawiono rozproszoną metodę rozwiązywania stanów przejściowych pola.

Opis:
With the rapid evolution of the distributed computing world in the last few years, the amount of data created and processed has fast increased to petabytes or even exabytes scale. Such huge data sets need data-intensive computing applications and impose performance requirements to the infrastructures that support them, such as high scalability, storage, fault tolerance but also efficient scheduling algorithms. This paper focuses on providing a hybrid scheduling algorithm for many task computing that addresses big data environments with few penalties, taking into consideration the deadlines and satisfying a data dependent task model. The hybrid solution consists of several heuristics and algorithms (min-min, min-max and earliest deadline first) combined in order to provide a scheduling algorithm that matches our problem. The experimental results are conducted by simulation and prove that the proposed hybrid algorithm behaves very well in terms of meeting deadlines.

The understanding of the structural and dynamic complexity of neural networks is greatly facilitated by computer simulations. An ongoing challenge for simulating realistic models is, however, computational speed. In this paper a framework for modeling and parallel simulation of biological-inspired large scale spiking neural networks on high-performance graphics processors is described. This tool is implemented in the OpenCL programming technology. It enables simulation study with three models: Integrate-andfire, Hodgkin-Huxley and Izhikevich neuron model. The results of extensive simulations are provided to illustrate the operation and performance of the presented software framework. The particular attention is focused on the computational speed-up factor.

Opis:
With the improvement of the gate complexity, the verification overhead becomes more decisive for VLSI design cost In order to reduce the simulation time, a adaptive partition based parallel method of VLSI logic simulation with GPGPU is addressed in this paper. The numerous arithmetic blocks of GPGPU is utilized simultaneously for disparate circuit macros. The partition strategy we proposed shows a sufficient flexibility to balance the different work load in parallel threads and fit the feature of GPU architecture. To explore the parallelism and locality of logic simulation further, the circuit macro is organized as stream data. The data dependency between the input and output nets in one individual logical path is handled with the shared memory of GPGPU. As for different logical paths, the dependency is processed by threads synchronization. To illustrate the performance, a serial experiments is implemented in Intel CoreDuo workstation with Nvidia GTX465 GPU board. Four typical digital circuits (LDPC, DES3, OpenRISC 1200 and OpenSPARCPARC T1) are considered as the benchmark. The result of experiments demonstrate a significant speed-up is achieved by using GPGPU parallel method, comparing with the CPU serial logic simulation. In maximal case (OpenS T1), the GPGPU parallel acceleration computes 21 times faster than serial program.

Modern, highly concurrent, and large-scale systems require new methods for design, testing, and monitoring. Their dynamics and scale require real-time tools that provide a holistic view of the whole system and the ability to show a more detailed view when needed. Such tools can help identify the causes of unwanted states, which is hardly possible with a static analysis or metrics-based approach. In this paper, a new tool for the analysis of distributed systems in Erlang is presented. It provides the real-time monitoring of system dynamics on diferent levels of abstraction. The tool has been used for analyzing a large-scale urban trafic simulation system running on a cluster of 20 computing nodes.

The results of fully resolved simulations and large eddy simulations of bluff-body flows obtained by means of the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) are reported. A selection of Reynolds numbers has been investigated in unsteady laminar and transient flow regimes. Computed drag coefficients of a cube have been compared with the available data for validation purposes. Then, a more detailed analysis of the flow past a sphere is presented, including also the determination of vortex shedding frequency and the resulting Strouhal numbers. Advantages and drawbacks of the chosen geometry implementation technique, so called “staircase geometry”, are discussed. For the quest of maximum computational effi- ciency, all simulations have been carried out with the use of in-house code executed on GPU.

Distributed computing attempts to aggregate different computing resources available in enterprises and in the Internet for computation intensive applications in a transparent and scalable way. Fault simulation used in digital design flow for test quality evaluation can require a lot of processor and memory resources. To speed up simulation and to overcome the problem of memory limits in the case of very large circuits, a method of model partitioning and the procedure of parallel reasoning for several distributed simulation agents was proposed. The concept and implementation of web-based distributed system was introduced.

The submitted paper is dedicated to the numerical simulation of moving load effect on road structures in the time domain. The dynamic load from vehicles on pavements is the subject of interest. The multi-body computing models of vehicles on various levels are introduces. The equations of motions are derived in the form of ordinary differential equations. The equations of motions are solved numerically by the use of step-by-step integration method in the environment of program system MATLAB. The road unevenness as the main source of kinematical excitation of vehicle is modeled as the random rod profile by the use of the power spectral density functions. The time histories of wonted functions are calculated. Especially the time histories of tire forces as the source of dynamic load of pavements are the object of interest. The conclusions are focused on the influence of the road profile quality on the values of tire forces.

Examination of the dynamics of broadly-defined computer systems that show the characteristics of a deterministic chaos requires an adjustment of the notions of ergodicity and mixing. The notions are well-defined in case of systems that range within the areas of non-zero status. The range of states of a computer system is naturally a finite set, which makes it necessary to look for differently defined dynamic characteristics that are prerequisites of chaos. The paper presents a concept of ergodicity that is construed to be a quantitative property of a computer-based dynamic system. It also discusses the problem of defining the property of mixing in the context of imminent periodicity of all the trajectories of the system.

Opis:
Europe has to face strong competitive challenges in the field of QIT from other regions of the world. The tools for the effective implementation of the challenges related to the start, we hope, of building a quantum civilization are both common and individual in particular European countries. Joint projects in the field of QIT, usually narrowly focused, are announced by large European Agencies and are related to their activities. Large-scale collaborative projects are of course the domain of the EC. National projects depend heavily on the capabilities of individual countries and vary greatly in size. The most technologically advanced European countries invest hundreds of millions of Euros in national QIT projects annually. The largest European FET class project currently being implemented is the Quantum Flagship. Although the EQF is basically just one of the elements of a large and complicated European scene of development of quantum technologies, it becomes the most important element and, in a sense, a dominant one, also supported from the political level. There are complex connections and feedbacks between the elements of this quantum scene. National projects try to link to the EQF. Here we are interested in such connections and their impact on the effectiveness of QIT development in Europe, and especially in Poland.

Cloud environments made up of a large number of compute and storage servers provide ondemand services in a usage-based consumption model (pay-as-you-go). Load balancing is one of the major problems in the cloud. Indeed, the dynamics of demand requirements and QoS, as well as the variability of cloud resources and its provisioning models make difficult the operation of performance evaluation of the system. To face this issue and to ensure the viability of cloud computing, IT resources must be managed effectively by a dynamic monitoring of the current workload of virtual machines (VMs). In this study, we propose the design of a cloud services simulation tool at the infrastructure level based on cloud computing simulation platform named CloudSim. It allows real-time monitoring of a load of each VM in terms of CPU utilization, memory utilization and bandwidth utilization ratio. The result of this case study can be useful for carry out dynamic environment simulations for VMs monitoring and fast decision making that can be used in load balancing mechanisms.
