Objective: The aim of the study was to determine whether the intensity of cognitive complaints can, in conjunction with other selected variables, predict the general level of cognitive functions evaluated with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) test. Current reports do not show clear conclusions on this subject. Some data indicate that cognitive complaints have a predictive value for low scores in standardised tasks, suggesting cognitive dysfunction (e.g. mild cognitive impairment). Other data, however, do not support the predictive role of complaints, and show no relationship to exist between the complaints and the results of cognitive tests. Material and methods: The study included 118 adults (58 women and 60 men). We used the MoCA test, a self-report questionnaire assessing the intensity of cognitive complaints (Patient-Reported Outcomes in Cognitive Impairment – PROCOG and Dysexecutive Questionnaire/Self – DEX-S), and selected subtests of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R PL). On the basis of the results from the MoCA test, two separate groups were created, one comprising respondents with lower results, and one – those who obtained scores indicating a normal level of cognitive function. We compared these groups according to the severity of the complaints and the results obtained with the other methods. Logistic regression analysis was performed taking into account the independent variables (gender, age, result in PROCOG, DEX-S, and neurological condition) and the dependent variable (dichotomized result in MoCA). Results: Groups with different levels of performance in MoCA differed in regards of some cognitive abilities and the severity of complaints related to semantic memory, anxiety associated with a sense of deficit and loss of skills, but provided similar self-assessments regarding the efficiency of episodic memory, long-term memory, social skills and executive functions. The severity of complaints does not allow us to predict the level of cognitive functions. Older age, male sex, and neurological diseases all increase the likelihood of lower MoCA outcomes. Conclusions: Because of the large prevalence of complaints in the population of patients with neurologic deficits and healthy persons alike, and the difficulty in determining the significance of the complaints for the clinical psychological diagnosis/prognosis, it is necessary to expand the research to include biomarkers of brain pathology and other factors.
Cel: Celem podjętych badań było określenie, czy nasilenie skarg na osłabienie poznawcze wraz z innymi wybranymi zmiennymi pozwala przewidywać ogólny poziom funkcji poznawczych ocenianych Montrealską Skalą Funkcji Poznawczych (Montreal Cognitive Assessment, MoCA). Aktualne doniesienia nie zawierają jednoznacznych wniosków na ten temat. Część danych wskazuje, że skargi na osłabienie poznawcze mają wartość predyktywną dla niskich wyników uzyskiwanych w zadaniach standaryzowanych, sugerujących rozwój dysfunkcji poznawczych (np. łagodnych zaburzeń poznawczych), inne natomiast nie potwierdzają predyktywnej roli skarg i nie wykazują powiązań między skargami na osłabienie poznawcze a rezultatami testów poznawczych. Materiał i metoda: W badaniach uczestniczyło 118 dorosłych osób, w tym 58 kobiet i 60 mężczyzn. Wykorzystano test MoCA, kwestionariusze samoopisowe oceniające nasilenie skarg poznawczych (PatientReported Outcomes in Cognitive Impairment – PROCOG i Dysexecutive Questionnaire/Self – DEX-S) oraz wybrane podtesty Skali Inteligencji D. Wechslera dla Dorosłych, wersji zrewidowanej (WAIS-R PL). Na postawie wyniku MoCA wydzielono dwie grupy osób: o niższym wyniku i o wyniku wskazującym na prawidłowy poziom funkcji poznawczych. Porównano te grupy ze względu na nasilenie skarg oraz wyniki uzyskane przy użyciu pozostałych metod. Następnie wykonano analizę regresji logistycznej z uwzględnieniem zmiennych niezależnych (płeć, wiek, wynik w PROCOG i DEX-S, stan neurologiczny) i zmiennej zależnej (zdychotomizowany wynik w MoCA). Wyniki: Grupy o różnym poziomie wykonania MoCA różniły się pod względem wybranych zdolności poznawczych oraz nasilenia skarg dotyczących pamięci semantycznej, niepokoju związanego z poczuciem deficytów i utraty nabytych umiejętności, podobnie natomiast oceniały sprawność pamięci epizodycznej i długotrwałej, kompetencje społeczne oraz funkcje wykonawcze. Nasilenie skarg nie pozwala przewidywać poziomu funkcji poznawczych. Starszy wiek, płeć męska i obciążenia neurologiczne zwiększają prawdopodobieństwo obniżenia wyników w MoCA. Wnioski: Ze względu na powszechność skarg w populacji osób obciążonych neurologicznie i osób zdrowych, a także z uwagi na trudności w określaniu znaczenia skarg w klinicznej diagnozie/prognozie psychologicznej należy poszerzyć badania z uwzględnieniem biomarkerów patologii mózgowej i innych zmiennych.

W okresie powojennym Łosice borykały się z wieloma problemami społeczno–gospodarczymi. Majątek miasta został rozgrabiony przez okupantów, przedsiębiorstwa nie mogły funkcjonować, ponieważ brakowało maszyn i sprzętu. Miasto nie miało funduszy na odbudowę i remont ocalałych domów. Te wszystkie problemy z czasem doprowadziły do niezadowolenia społecznego. Mieszkańcy wysyłali skargi, donosy i zażalenia do władz wojewódzkich, telewizji i prasy. Domagano się w nich mieszkań, pracy, sprawiedliwości społecznej i godnego bytu.
In the post–war period, Łosice struggled with many socio–economic problems. The city’s property was looted and the enterprises could not function because there was a shortage of machinery and equipment. The city did not have the funds to rebuild and renovate the surviving houses. All these problems over time led to social discontent. Residents sent complaints, denunciations and grievances to the provincial authorities, television and the press. They demanded housing, work, social justice and a dignified existence.

Introduction. Portable computers are becoming an increasingly common main work tool; however, they are not properly adapted to the workstation. Musculoskeletal complaints are a very frequent complaint reported by workers who use computers in their work. Aim. The aim of the study was to assess the prevalence and intensity of pain in the musculoskeletal system in workers who regularly use a portable computer in their work and to determine the influence of working conditions and duration of work with a portable computer. Material and methods. The study covered 300 workers. Musculoskeletal complaints were assessed with the Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire complemented with a visual analogue scale. Working conditions was assessed with a questionnaire developed as part of the study. Results and conclusions. The most prevalent faults in the organization of workstations were lack of a computer desk with an adjustable keyboard tray/drawer, no adjustment of chair armrests and no possibility to use an additional keyboard. The most frequent complaints among computer operators were headaches, low-back pain and neck pain. The use of an additional keyboard reduced the intensity of shoulder pain.

This study aimed to investigate the subjective health complaints (SHC) in the teaching profession of Hong Kong. On the basis of the SHC inventory, a questionnaire was prepared for data collection through a mail survey. A total of 1 710 usable questionnaires were returned by the primary or secondary school teachers. The results showed that 99.5% (n = 1 702) of respondents suffered at least one type of the 39 single health problems on the total SHC scale during the preceding 30 days. The 10 most frequently reported health complaints among the teachers were tiredness, eyestrain, anxiety, sleep problems, voice disorder, shoulder pain, neck pain, headache, cold/flu, and lower-back pain. With the exception of the category of pseudoneurological complaints, primary school teachers showed a statistically higher prevalence in reporting problems in 6 of 7 subscales. The 5 most severe complaints were tiredness, eyestrain, sleep problems, shoulder pain, and voice disorder.

The article deals with the personal handling of complaints by participants in court proceedings (in rare cases it also includes those citizens who do not have such legal status as the public). The aim is to define, analyze and describe the personal characteristics of the complainants, to specify what inspires, motivates and leads them to communicate the complaint in person, directly in interaction with the court manager, and court staff by this atypical procedure before, during and after court proceedings, in addition to a written complaint. The management of complaints and the case law of complaints are based in particular on the provisions of § 62 et seq. Act no. 757/2004 Coll. on courts as amended (exceptionally also from Act No. 9/2010 Coll. on complaints as amended). On the one hand, it is a description of the basic characteristics of the applicants’ mental state, communication, behavior and conduct, and on the other hand, it is also a description/study of the managerial activity of the court employees. The article clarifies the peculiarity of the above-mentioned method used to settle the parties in dispute before the courts, but outside the court proceedings one finds that the complainants are absent from the social, health and legal counseling service provided by state or private sectors before the sitting. These areas are to some extent, eventually more or less covered by courts of the Slovak Republic by personally accepting and addressing the complainants. The public is generally unaware of this, but the professionals consider/understand this activity as a protopype (basis) of family court formation or a return to classical counseling from the beginning of the 21st century.

Introduction. According to the European Occupational Diseases Statistics (EODS-2005) diseases related with musculoskeletal disorders occupy the first position on the obligatory list of occupational diseases. These disorders most frequently occur in the agriculture-hunting-forestry sector in such countries as: Finland, Holland, Germany, France and Spain (data: EU-OSHA). Materials and method. The study included a selected group of males – 414 forestry workers, employees of the State Forests, aged 25–65, mean age 48. The control group were 119 office workers aged 23–64, mean age 45.8. The basic research instrument was a questionnaire designed by specialists concerning pain complaints occurring in 7 areas of the motor system: neck, arms, upper and lower back, hips, knees and feet. Results. The results of the survey showed that in the selected group of forestry workers, among 7 investigated areas of the motor system, the most frequently reported pain complaints involved the lower part of the spine (272 persons, 65.7% of the total number of respondents). In the control group such pain complaints occurred in 55.5% (66) of office workers (p = 0.04). Forestry workers most often described this pain as permanent, radiating to the leg, or as an acute pain. According to the frequency of reporting pain, the area of the knees was placed on the second position (214 foresters; 51.7%). Conclusions. The work of a forester which consist, among other things, in relocation on foot or by vehicle over long distances along an uneven terrain and in various weather conditions, is a risk factor of the occurrence of musculosceletal disorders concerning the low back and knees.

Advertisements which discriminate according to age are not uncommon and should not be seen as a side-issue of society, which can be neglected. Therefore, the focus of this paper had as its aim the identification and investigation of specific complaints regarding age discrimination in advertising. This was done by means of long-term monitoring with the purpose of gaining new insights and obtaining valuable information for future research projects. Here the relevant question was: Have complaints about age discriminating advertisements (adverts, spots, posters, online-advertising) been received by the »Deutsche Werberat«, a self-regulatory body of the advertising industry which was founded in 1972? In order to investigate the question asked, a quantitative time series analysis of the approx. 4 500 complaints lodged with the »Deutsche Werberat« from 2003 to 2013, a period of eleven years, was carried out.

Artykuł podejmuje zagadnienie obligatoryjności podpisu składanego pod skargami, wnioskami i petycjami. Autor zauważa, że w świetle wykładni literalnej obowiązujących norm prawnych poza skargami i wnioskami składanymi ustnie do protokołu, skargi, wnioski i petycje składane zarówno za pośrednictwem środków komunikacji elektronicznej, jak i w sposób tradycyjny nie wymagają podpisu wnoszącego (osoby działającej w imieniu wnoszącego). Wskazuje, że przepisy właściwe w sprawach skarg, wniosków i petycji nie przewidują możliwości wezwania wnoszącego do uzupełnienia podpisu, ani nie dają oczywistej (bezdyskusyjnej) podstawy do tego, by w tej sprawie posiłkowo stosować przepisy do podań i wezwań, właściwe dla ogólnego postępowania administracyjnego, w którym podpis jest obligatoryjny. Możliwe jest to wyłącznie przy zastosowaniu wykładni systemowej i celowościowej. Autor podkreśla, że przepisy dotyczące samych petycji nie mogą różnicować statusu wnoszącego z racji formy złożenia.
The article concerns the issue of the compulsory nature of signatures affixed under complaints, motions and petitions. The author notices that in the light of the literal interpretation of binding legal standards, apart from complaints and motions filed orally for the record, complaints, motions and petitions lodged both by means of electronic communication and in a traditional way do not require the signature of the claimant (person acting on behalf of the claimant). The author indicates that regulations concerning complaints, motions and petitions do not provide for the possibility of summoning the claimant to affix a missing signature, and do not give obvious (unquestioned) grounds to apply in such a case to motions and summons auxiliary regulations applicable to general administrative proceedings, in which a signature is obligatory. It is possible only in the case of following systematic and purposive interpretation. Finally, the author emphasises that regulations concerning petitions cannot determine the status of the claimant due to the manner of submission.

Nowelizacja samorządowych ustaw ustrojowych datowana na styczeń 2018 r. stanowiła wyraz dążeń ustawodawcy do zapewnienia członkom wspólnot samorządowych skutecznego wpływu na działalność organów tych wspólnot. Realizacji tego zamierzenia służyć miało ukształtowanie nowych instytucji, do których zakwalifikować należy komisję skarg, wniosków i petycji. Jednostki samorządu terytorialnego wszystkich stopni zobligowane bowiem zostały do utworzenia komisji stałej, przy pomocy której organ stanowiący i kontrolny rozpatrywałby skargi na działania organu wykonawczego i samorządowych jednostek organizacyjnych, a także wnioski oraz petycje składane przez obywateli. W niniejszym opracowaniu dokonano analizy materiału normatywnego, która umożliwiła przedstawienie pozycji ustrojowej komisji oraz jej zadań. Pozwoliła ona również na ocenę przejętych rozwiązań prawnych wyznaczających status tego organu oraz sformułowanie wniosków de lege lata.
The amendment of system-related laws dated January 2018 was an expression of the legislator’s pursuits to provide members of self-government communities with an effective impact on the activity of bodies thereof. Shaping new institutions under which the complaints, requests and petitions commission falls was to serve the implementation of this assumption. Local government units of all levels were obliged to create a permanent commission by which the law-making body and the auditing body were to examine complaints about the activity of the executive authority and self-government organisational units, as well as requests and petitions brought in by citizens. This study analysed the normative material, which made possible to present the commission’s systemic position and its tasks. It also allowed an assessment of the adopted legal solutions outlining this body’s status and formulation of de lege lata conclusions.

Objectives: To assess the type and incidence of subjective symptoms related to the use of mobile phones in Polish users. Material and Methods: The study was conducted in 2005 using a questionnaire survey. Although it has been quite a long time, up to now, no such data have been published for Poland. The questionnaire consisted of 53 questions concerning sex, age, education, general health, characteristics of a mobile phone (hand-held, loud-speaking unit) as well as the habits associated with its use (frequency and duration of calls, text messages, etc.) and complaints associated with using a mobile phone. Results: As many as 1800 questionnaires were sent. The response was obtained from 587 subjects aged 32.6±11.3 (48.9% women, 51.1% men); the age did not differ significantly between men and women. The subjects owned a cell phone for an average of 3 years. Majority of the respondents used the phone intensively, i.e. daily (74%) or almost daily (20%). Headaches were reported significantly more often by the people who talked frequently and long in comparison with other users (63.2% of the subjects, p = 0.0029), just like the symptoms of fatigue (45%, p = 0.013). Also, the feeling of warmth around the ear and directly to the auricle was reported significantly more frequently by the intensive mobile phone users, compared with other mobile phone users (47.3%, p = 0.00004 vs. 44.6%, p = 0.00063, respectively). Most symptoms appeared during or immediately after a call and disappeared within 2 h after the call. Continuous headache, persisting for longer than 6 h since the end of a call, was reported by 26% of the subjects. Conclusions: Our results show that the mobile phone users may experience subjective symptoms, the intensity of which depends on the intensity of use of mobile phones.

Objectives Cooks have increased morbidity and mortality. A high turnover has also been reported. We aimed to elucidate work environment and work sustainability in Norwegian cooks. Material and Methods A questionnaire inquiring about working conditions and work participation was sent to 2082 cooks who had qualified from 1988 onwards. Of these, 894 responded. Time at work was analyzed with Kaplan-Meier plots and possible determinants for quitting work as a cook was analyzed with Cox regression. Results The median time at work was 16.6 years. There were differences in sustainability between types of kitchens for both sexes (p = 0.00). The median time in the profession was 9.2 years for the cooks in restaurants, while the cooks in institutions and canteens showed a substantially higher sustainability with 75.4% still at work after 10 years, and 57% still at work after 20 years in the profession. Of those still at work as a cook, 91.4% reported a good or very good contentment, and the 67.4% who expected to stay in the profession the next 5 years frequently answered that excitement of cooking, the social working environment, and the creative features of cooking were reasons to continue. Musculoskeletal complaints were the most common health-related reason for leaving work as a cook, while working hours was the most common non-health-related reason. Conclusions There are significant differences in work sustainability between the cooks in the different types of kitchens. The identified determinants for length of time in the occupation can be used for preventive purposes.

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between work time control and mental health in workers working long hours. The study also attempted to show how that relationship depended on age and gender. Three hundred and six white-collar workers doing clerical work for over 8 h daily were diagnosed on work time control and mental health with the 28-item General Health Questionnaire. The results of an analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that participants working long hours but having high control over their work time had a significantly higher level of their mental health with regard to somatic complaints and anxiety and marginally higher with regard to social dysfunction than workers with low control over their work time. Male and female workers reported different problems with their mental health depending on what age (stage of life) they were at. It is hypothesized that the work–family conflict, inability to fulfil social commitments and poor working conditions can influence those effects.

Opis:
The paper present overview of the etiology and diagnostic evaluation and treatment of atrophic vaginitis. The author presented also the symptoms and diagnostic elements. The authors stresses the diff erences in treatment of atrophic vaginitis in women with breast cancer. In detail nonhormonal and hormonal treatment of atrophic vaginitis were discussed. The article drew attention to new therapies with intravaginal dehydroepiandrosterone administration and estrogens agonists.
W pracy przedstawiono etiologię zanikowego zapalenia pochwy (ZZP), dolegliwości podmiotowe i przedmiotowe, diagnostykę i leczenie. Zwrócono uwagę na odrębności leczenia choroby u chorych z rakiem sutka. Omówiono leczenie niehormonalne i miejscowe leczenie estrogenami, dehydroepiandrosteronem oraz agonistami estrogenów.

BackgroundCold storage facilities are the most common workplaces that produce artificially cold work environments and are associated with different adverse effects on human health, work productivity and the occurrence of accidents and injuries. The aim of this study was to measure the antagonistic health effects on workers, so that common factors causing abnormal symptoms could be determined, and to gather basic information to monitor the associated health risks from the exposure to cold work environments.Material and MethodsA cross-sectional analytical study was conducted to investigate the occurrence of cold-related adverse health effects, musculoskeletal symptoms, skin problems, injuries, respiratory illnesses, general hygiene and occupational environment related to cold indoor workplaces, using the Standardized Nordic Questionnaire. A total of 200 subjects took part in this study, including 100 exposed and 100 unexposed to cold environments. A 1-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and a t-test were applied to measure statistical differences and to differentiate the cases where variations occurred, using SPSS 16.ResultsThe study revealed that a longer and constant exposure to extremely cold indoor work environments significantly increased (p < 0.001) the cold-related symptoms and musculoskeletal disorders which ultimately reduced (p < 0.01) the efficiency, effectiveness, performance and work ability of the exposed workers.ConclusionsThe study disclosed various adverse cold-related complaints of the studied subjects who were exposed to extreme cold conditions during a maximum number of working hours. The most consistent problems were related to musculoskeletal discomfort, skin problems and respiratory abnormalities. Med Pr. 2020;71(1):1–7
