W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań odporności na grzyby pleśniowe zewnętrznych powłok z farb według normy BS 3900-G6 przywołanej w Decyzji Komisji z dnia 13 sierpnia 2008 r., ustanawiającej ekologiczne kryteria przyznawania wspólnotowego oznakowania ekologicznego farbom i lakierom do wymalowań zewnętrznych. Wyniki te porównano z oceną skuteczności działania biocydów w powłokach uzyskaną w badaniach przeprowadzonych zgodnie z PN-EN 15457.
The results of the resistance for mould fungus of elevation paint covers according to BS 3900-G6 standard were presented in the article. The standard was citing in the Decision of the Comission of 13 August 2008, establishing the ecological criteria for granting the European Community ecological marking for paints and external varnishes. The results were compared with the estimation of biocides activity effectiveness in coatings. This estimation was obtained in the tests carried out according to PN EN 15457 standard.

Opis:
Composite coatings, consisting of combinations of the conducting polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiphene) (PEDOT) and 4-aminobenzoic acid (ABA), were electrodeposited on glassy carbon and X20Cr13 stainless steel by cyclic voltammetry, using a sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) micellar aqueous solution of EDOT and ABA as a reaction medium. The coating deposition potential range, scan rate and composition of modification solution were determined. The protective properties of the resulting films on stainless steel were investigated in acidified (pH=4) 0.25 M sulphate solution in the absence and in presence of 0.5 M chloride ions. Diagnostic experiments include measurements of open circuit potential versus exposure time and potentiodynamic polarisation tests. Morphology of the obtained composite coatings was examined using optical metallographic microscope. The composite coatings provide good adherence to the steel substrate and very effective steel corrosion protection. The PEDOT/ABA coatings allow to stabilize the steel corrosion potential within the passive region both in absence and in presence of chloride ions.
Powłoki kompozytowe, na bazie polimeru przewodzacego- poli(3,4-etylenodioksytiofenu) (PEDOT) i kwasu 4-aminobenzoesowego (ABA), osadzano na powierzchni wegla szklistego i stali nierdzewnej X20Cr13 przy użyciu metody woltamperometrii cyklicznej. Do osadzania powłok zastosowano wodne roztwory dodecylosiarczanu sodu (SDS) zawierajace EDOT i ABA. Zbadano wpływ zakresu potencjału osadzania, szybkości przemiatania potencjałem i składu roztworu modyfikacyjnego na efektywność procesu elektroosadzania powłok. Własciwosci ochronne powłok uzyskanych na stali nierdzewnej badano w zakwaszonych (pH=4) roztworach 0,25 M siarczanowych niezawierajacych i zawierajacych dodatek 0,5 M jonów chlorkowych. Zbadano zaleznosc potencjału stacjonarnego od czasu wytrzymania w roztworze korozyjnym oraz wykonano potencjodynamiczne krzywe polaryzacji. Morfologie powłok zbadano przy pomocy metalograficznego mikroskopu optycznego. Uzyskane powłoki wykazuja dobra adhezje do podłoza stali i efektywnie zabezpieczaja stal przed korozja. Powłoki PEDOT/ABA stabilizuja potencjał korozyjny chronionej stali zarówno w środowisku niezawierającym jak i zawierającym jony chlorkowe.

Opis:
Digital image correlation (DIC) is a powerful full-field displacement measurement technique that has been used in various studies. The first step in the DIC is to create a random speckle pattern, where the spraying method is usually employed. However, creating an optimal pattern and modification in the spraying method is not convenient. Furthermore, the size of speckles which is not so small in spraying method, limits the minimum size of the field of study. In the present research, a convenient novel technique was introduced and investigated to generate a practical kind of speckle pattern with small speckles for evaluating smaller fields of view using nanoparticles. The pattern was created by spreading a mixture of different black and white nanoparticles. To this end, the black graphene oxide particles were mixed with white nanoparticles of titanium oxide, zirconium oxide and silicon to obtain three mixtures. Displacement tests show that the mixture of graphene and titanium provides the best DIC performance. More granularly, graphene and titanium were mixed at three different ratios to find the optimal combination. Subsequently, the accuracy of the new patterning method was analyzed via tensile testing and the results were compared against those of conventional method with various subset sizes.

Opis:
Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is one of the most widely used solid lubricants applied in different ways on the surfaces under friction. In this work, AISI 316 austenitic stainless steel was coated with MoS2, using thermo-diffusion method at different temperatures and times. Coatings properties were investigated using SEM, EDX, XRD and FTIR, Hardness Tester and Roughness tester. The results illustrated the formation of a uniform layer on the surface, containing MoS2 and MoO3–X phases. The thickness, grain size and the hardness of the coatings were 20-50 μm, 400-1000 nm and 350- 550 HV respectively. Friction tests carried out using ball-on-disc method under normal loads of 10 N under ambient conditions showed values of the friction coefficient 0.30-0.40. In addition, the kinetics of diffusion layers between the substrate and the coating were also investigated. It was found that there at steady temperature there is a parabolic relationship between the thickness of the diffusion layer and the treatment time. The activation energy for the process was estimated to be 143 kJ mol-1. Depending on the treatment time and temperature, the thicknesses of diffusion layer varied between 0.5 and 2.5 microns.

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2 ) is one of the most widely used solid lubricants applied in different ways on the surfaces under friction. In this work, AISI 316 austenitic stainless steel was coated with MoS2 , using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) at four different temperatures (400, 500, 600 and 700°C). Coatings properties were investigated using SEM, EDX, XRD and FTIR, Hardness Tester and Roughness tester. The results showed that with simultaneous evaporation of sulfur and molybdenum trioxide (MoO3 ) in the CVD chamber, a uniform coating layer containing MoS2 and MoO2 phases was formed. Increase in the substrate temperature resulted in the rise in the amount of MoS2 to MoO2 phases. The thickness, grain size and the hardness of the coating were 17-29 μm, 50-120 nm and 260-480 HV respectively. Friction tests carried out using pin-on-plate method under normal loads of 10 N under ambient conditions showed values of the friction coefficient 0.25-0.40.

Opis:
A new method was used in fixation of tibial bone fractures. Intramadular nailing (IMN) has been used into mid-diaphysis on left tibias of New Zeland rabbits (n = 5) via an in vivo work. To enable fixation of fracture, without causing too much screw damage on bone and avoiding malunion, nano- and micro-scale hydroxyapatite (HA) was coated at two ends (25 mm in length) of intramadular nails before implantation. After six weeks of survival period and sacrifizing, biomechanical tests and histopathologic examinations were executed. Such experiments have revealed that good stabilization and hence better fracture union for both treated IMN groups (NHA and MHA) over the standard IMN’. Pull-out tests showed the tensile strengths obtained to be significantly higher for the nano (NHA) and micro scale-MHA coated IMN compared to the uncoated standard IM nailing.

Purpose: This work aimed at evaluating the properties of the ethyl silicate-based coating that can be applied on low carbon steel. Design/methodology/approach: Two mixture ratio types (2:1, and 3:2) of resin and hardener respectively were used to prepared two specimen models (A and B). Findings: It found that some mechanical properties (tensile, hardness, and impact strength) of ethyl silicate resin were evaluated according to standard criteria. Research limitations/implications: The effect of heat treatments at various temperatures (100, 150, and 200°C) and holding at different times (10, 20 & 30) min on hardness was investigated. Practical implications: Moreover, an open circuit potential corrosion test with a solution of 3.5% Sodium Chloride at room temperature and 60°C was used to determine the corrosion resistance of low carbon steel specimens coated with the two mixture types. Originality/value: The effects of mixture ratios (for resin and hardener) and heat treatment conditions on properties of ethyl silicate-based coating were studied. From obtained results, acceptable values of tensile, hardness, and toughness were recorded. Increasing heat treatment temperature and holding time leads to enhance hardness for both model types. An open circuit potential (OCP) tests show that there is an enhancement of protective properties of ethyl silicate coatings with mixture type B in comparison with type A was achieved. Generally, the results indicate that specimen model B has higher properties as compared with specimen model A.

This comparative study was carried out to investigate the effect of nanosilver, silver-clay nanohybrid, and silver-milled clay nanohybrid coatings on the antibacterial characteristics of paper. Nanosilver (25 ppm) was used as a singleand double-layer coating. The results demonstrated that treatment with pure nanosilver was more efficient in the reduction of microbial growth. Also, milling of clay enabled better maintenance of silver nanoparticles, and led to a greater decrease in bacterial growth than in the case of the original silver-clay nanohybrid. Evaluation of the sustainability of antibacterial characteristics confirmed that, although pure nanosilver treatment achieved better performance in the first 15 minutes than nanohybrid samples, the performance of the nanohybrids improved with the passing of time. As expected, the treatments decreased the brightness of paper, while the opacity increased significantly; pure nanosilver treatment led to lower brightness than the others, and the opacity was higher in the case of the silver-clay nanohybrid than with the other treatments.

The paper describes the results of developing a new technology of precision application of powder coating multifunctional systems to protect surfaces of industrial products using the microplasma material processing complex with the assistance of an industrial robot. The choice of components for developing the multifunctional powder coating systems and the trajectory of the plasma source and processing modes is made on the basis of optimized condition identified by initial experimentation and mathematical modelling. The use of a robot with a programmable controller provides high accuracy and performance of coating deposition onto the parts with a complex shape. The application of this technology allows obtaining multifunction systems of powder coatings with a predicted nanostructure and a complex set of properties such as microhardness and corrosion resistance. These systems are designed to protect friction surfaces and cutting tools, as well as to protect and restore the surface of components operating in corrosive environments and at high temperatures.

In this paper, we have obtained theoretically a convenient way to improve the tandem solar cell efficiency by using one-dimensional binary photonic crystals in the anti-reflection coating and intermediate reflective layer. Also, we design and simulate our structure by using two different methods; MATLAB program based on a transfer matrix method and COMSOL Multiphysics software based on a finite element method. We have obtained the localization of the photons energy on the appropriate cell and then reduced the energy losses by controlling the photonic band gap. The present design is more convenient for cold countries.

This research aims to determine the influence of the cyclic process of freezing and defrosting on the mechanical properties of the chosen glass fibres and PTFE-coated woven fabrics. The specimens were subjected to freezing at about -20°C for 4 h and thawing by full immersion into the water at about +20°C for 4 h. The fabric samples after 25 and 50 frozen cycles were air-dried at room temperature for one week and then subjected to uniaxial tensile tests. The same tests have been performed on a reference group of specimens, which were not exposed to temperature change. The authors determined the tensile strength, and longitudinal stiffnesses resulting from performed tests. Although the investigated coated woven fabrics expressed a reduction in the tensile strength in water soaking conditions, the performed frozen cycles don’t show a significant decrease in strength under uniaxial tensile tests.
Artykuł opisuje badania tkanin technicznych wykonanych z włókana szklanego i powlekanych politertafluroetylenem (PTFE) (ang. PTFE-coated woven fabric), które mają na celu określenie wpływu cyklicznych procesów zamrażania i rozmrażania na właściwości mechaniczne wybranych tkanin Próbki tkanin technicznych zostały poddane zamrażaniu w temperaturze około –20°C przez 4 godziny i rozmrażaniu przez całkowite zanurzenie w wodzie w temperaturze około +20°C przez 4 godziny. Próbki tkanin technicznych po 25 i 50 cyklach zamrażania suszono na powietrzu w temperaturze pokojowej przez tydzień, a następnie poddano próbom jednoosiowego rozciągania. Na podstawie testów jednoosiowego rozciągania określono wytrzymałość na rozciąganie i moduły sztywności. Pomimo, iż w badanych tkaninach powlekanych następuje spadek wytrzymałości na rozciąganie w warunkach ich namoczenia w wodzie, to wykonane cykle zamrażania nie wykazują znacznego spadku wytrzymałości w próbach jednoosiowego rozciągania.

The paper presents problems related to the regeneration of wheel hubs for mining machinery vehicles carried out with arc welding using the MAG method. Hubs made of medium-carbon cast steel, type LII500, were weld surfaced with filler metal grade of G4Si. The tests were aimed at determining welding imperfections and metallographic properties of the surfacing welds. The influence of heat treatment on the properties of surfacing was investigated. Hardness distributions in welded hubs after various heat treatment operations were determined. Recommendations for the technology of weld surfacing the wheel hubs were formulated.
W pracy przedstawiono problemy związane z regeneracją piast kół pojazdów maszyn górniczych realizowanych napawaniem łukowym metodą MAG. Piasty wykonane ze staliwa średnio węglowego gat. LII500 napawano spoiwem gat. G4Si1. Badania miały na celu określenie niezgodności spawalniczych oraz właściwości metalograficznych napoiny. Zbadano wpływ obróbki cieplnej na właściwości napoiny. Określono rozkłady twardości w napawanych piastach po różnych zabiegach obróbki cieplnej. Sformułowano zalecenia do technologii napawania piast.

On the basis of induction heating, radiation heating and liquid nitrogen refrigeration, high-temperature, medium-temperature, normal-temperature and low-temperature heating/refrigeration furnaces were designed, respectively. An apparatus with a wide temperature range and high accuracy applied to test oxidation resistance of materials has been developed based on the thermogravimetric method and the heat transfer principle. The apparatus consists of four heating/cooling systems, a specimen fixture positioning unit, a laser positioning unit, vertical and horizontal moving guide rails, and a high-precision weighing balance. The apparatus, based on the thermogravimetric method, is able to test oxidation resistance of materials. In the test, the temperature range was -180~3000°C (the highest temperature is determined by material properties). The temperature control accuracy was ±5°C. The accuracy of on-line weighing was ±0.1 mg. The measurement uncertainty was 0.2 mg. Compared with other relevant devices, this apparatus has its own advantages: simple operation, wide heating/cooling temperature range, sufficient specimen heating, high sensitivity and precision, and short heating/cooling time. The experimental results show that the developed apparatus presented in this study not only can be used for isothermal thermogravimetric tests, but also for thermal cycling tests and multi-step oxidation tests. With the effective integration of multiple heating apparatus and refrigeration apparatus, the apparatus breaks through the limitations of the heating/cooling temperature range of the existing devices, accomplishes the high-precision oxidation resistance test of materials in a wide temperature range, and will play a great role in improving the research of materials.

Opis:
Chromium low alloyed steel substrate was subjected to aluminizing by hot dipping in pure aluminium and Al-Si eutectic alloy at 750°C and 650°C respectively, for dipping time up to 45 minutes. The coated samples were subjected for investigation using an optical microscope, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray analyzer (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. Cyclic thermal oxidation test was carried out at 500°C for 72 hours to study the oxidation behaviour of hot-dipped aluminized steel. Electrochemical corrosion behavior was conducted in 3wt. %NaCl aqueous solution at room temperature. The cyclic thermal oxidation resistance was highly improved for both coating systems because of the formation of a thin protective oxide film in the outermost coating layer. The gain in weight was decreased by 24 times. The corrosion rate was decreased from 0.11 mmpy for uncoated specimen to be 2.9 x10-3 mmpy for Aluminum coated steel and 5.7x 10-3 mmpy for Al-Si eutectic coated specimens. The presence of silicon in hot dipping molten bath inhabit the growth of coating intermetallic layers, decrease the total coating thickness and change the interface boundaries from tongue like shape to be more regular with flatter interface. Two distinct coating layers were observed after hot dipping aluminizing in Al bath, while three distinct layers were observed after hot dipping in Al-Si molten bath.
