    The March 2019 School Strikes 4 Climate, predominantly organized by young students, garnered widespread and polarizing media coverage. We aimed to identify how Australian mainstream print news media portrays youth involvement and dissent within climate action movements. A qualitative media framing analysis was conducted to determine how youth climate activists and dissent were presented during the first large-scale youth climate protests in Australia. Australian newspaper articles and opinion pieces (N = 101) were identified via ProQuest and screened. An inductive thematic analysis was conducted in NVivo12. Findings were assessed through a typology of dissent to determine how different forms of dissent were represented in the Australian print news media. The framing of dissent in Australian media coverage was varied, with news articles being more likely to prioritize the voices of young people, while opinion pieces resorted to fear-mongering rhetoric that critiqued and invalidated their agency. Protestors used combinations of dutiful and disruptive dissent to advocate for climate action, with the latter being more effective for challenging systemic drivers of climate change.

    While offline iterations of the climate activism movement have spanned decades, today online involvement of youth through social media platforms has transformed the landscape of this social movement. Our research considers how youth climate activists utilize social media platforms to create and direct social movement communities towards greater collective action. Our project analyzes narrative framing and linguistic conventions to better understand how youth climate activists utilized Twitter to build community and mobilize followers around their movement. Our project identifies three emergent strategies, used by youth climate activists, that appear effective in engaging activist communities on Twitter. These strategies demonstrate the power of digital culture, and youth culture, in creating a collective identity within a diverse generation. This fusion of digital and physical resistance is an essential component of the youth climate activist strategy and may play a role in the future of emerging social movements.

    The article analyzes climate change as a recent threat of the early 21st century. It presents an understanding of the concept of climate justice in the context of political discourse. The purpose of the study is to analyze the nature of climate justice and the protest forms of its implementation. To ensure climate justice, climate policy must embrace human rights, gender equality, inter-generational justice and cultural integrity. In particular, climate justice is treated everywhere by the problems of environmental democracy, climate activism, climate apartheid, climate skepticism. The author believes that climate change should be addressed not only as an environmental issue, but also as a climate justice issue focused on how the most vulnerable people are affected.
    Celem artykułu jest analiza zmian klimatycznych jako nowoczesnego zagrożenia początku XXI wieku. Autorka przedstawia pojęcie „sprawiedliwości klimatycznej” w kontekście dyskursu politycznego. Celem badania jest analiza istoty sprawiedliwości klimatycznej i form przeciwdziałania jej wdrożeniu. W celu zapewnienia sprawiedliwości klimatycznej polityka klimatyczna powinna obejmować prawa człowieka, równość płci, sprawiedliwość międzypokoleniową oraz integralność kulturową. Zagadnienie sprawiedliwości klimatycznej pojawia się szczególnie powszechnie tam, gdzie mowa o problemach demokracji środowiskowej, aktywizmu klimatycznego, apartheidu klimatycznego, sceptycyzmu klimatycznego. Autorka uważa, że zmiany klimatu należy traktować nie tylko jako kwestię środowiskową, ale także jako kwestię sprawiedliwości klimatycznej, skoncentrowanej na tym, w jaki sposób owe zmiany dotykają najbardziej narażone grupy ludności.

    The extensive volume edited by Robert R. Janes and Richard Sandell titled Museum Activism is composed of papers by over 50 authors. They are in majority case studies, with examples from most varied institutions. Museum activism is the opposite to museum social alienation; in this respect, the first definitely draws from the many-years’ experience of New Museology and participatory museum. Museum activism advocates are negative about the commercial populism and the success measured by turnout only, and not that measured exclusively by the differentiation of the museum offer and its accessibility to minority and marginalized groups. According to the Editors, contemporary museums are more morally obliged to engage in social activism, since in the times of a radical drop of social trust worldwide, museums still constitute one of the social institutions considered as trustworthy. Many of the actions described in the book concern the sphere of museum accessibility broadly speaking, both in the sense of physical access and possibility to participate in the programme, and barriers of social nature. Another sphere of museum activism is made up of curatorial practices. The texts point to many dimensions of activist curatorial practices which, however, first of all become the space for questioning the myth about museum’s neutrality in many respects: the colonial collection genesis, attitude towards climate, narratives constructing national identity, or finally the issue of the presence of curator’s voice in an exhibition. In many of the papers the role of museums in the context of the responsibility for the climate, of raising social awareness, of constructing a new narrative on the relation between man and the world, as well as the necessity to revise one’s own praxis are reiterated.

    Małgorzata Figura’s article is an attempt to capture the social roles of children when faced with the threat of the impending climate catastrophe. The introduction aims to draw attention to the need to give the floor to young people who can alert the public to changes taking place in the world. This necessity is stressed by researchers who represent children’s studies and who emphasize the importance of children’s perspective in literature and in scientific and social discourses. Figura’s analysis of selected literary texts allows us to see this turn towards the child, which at the same time is also the child’s turn towards nature.

    Antropocen jako przedmiot akademickiego dyskursu staje się jeszcze jednym obiektem antropcentrycznej kategorezy. Narastająca treść teoretyczna nie ma szans wpłynąć zasadniczo na przebudowę myślenia w czasie wystarczającym, aby odegrała istotną rolę w przeciwdziałaniu degradacji planety. Czy niejawna samowiedza wzbierającego gwałtownie dyskursu – i jego coraz częstszy fatalizm – tę niemożność przewiduje? A może więcej: w istocie pozostaje sceptyczna wobec szans na takie przeciwdziałanie, dekretując niejako katastroficzny scenariusz? Swoje wątpliwości formułuję z perspektywy teoretyczki literatury i komunikacji, a zarazem aktywistki ruchu Extinction Rebellion.
    The anthropocene, as an object of academic discourse, becomes just another object of anthropocentric categoresis. The increasing theoretical content has no chance of achieving a significant transformation of thinking in sufficient time for it to play a relevant role in counteracting planetary degradation. Does the implicit self‑knowledge of this rapidly spreading discourse – and its frequent fatalism – predict this inability? Or maybe more: does it, in fact, remain sceptical about the chances of such counteraction, declaring a kind of catastrophic scenario? I formulate my doubts from the perspective of a literary and communication theoretician and an activist in the Extinction Rebellion movement.
