Opis:: Sustained growth in the number of urban dwellers means that matters concerning the development of modern cities are not only a challenge for current residents, but a global test for the entire population. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and assess social awareness regarding sustainable development, with particular emphasis on matters concerning the circular economy. The study was conducted by means of the CAWI (Computer Assisted (Aided) Web Interviews) method on a sample of 389 respondents from Warsaw, the capital city of Poland. The results imply that although the society has a correct understanding of sustainable development and the circular economy, there is still a continuing need to support further education due to the necessity for wider and more intensive implementation of sustainable development in practice.

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest ukazanie w jaki sposób jest ukształtowany i jak funkcjonuje system kolejowy w Melbourne. To niespełna 200-letnie miasto od kilkunastu lat wygrywa w rankingach na najbardziej przyjazne do życia miejsce na świecie, co zawdzięcza szeroko zakrojonym działaniom poświęconym miejskiej odnowie, zapoczątkowanym w latach 80. XX w. Samo pojęcie „miasto” ma też nieco inne znaczenie niż u nas i pod nazwą Melbourne kryje się tak naprawdę cała, bardzo rozległa aglomeracja mniejszych ośrodków, które tworzą spójny, pozbawiony widocznych granic, organizm.
This article describes the Melbourne rail system, which consists primarily of suburban and regional lines, complemented by interstates. The text provides a brief historical outline and characteristics of the system along with its specific features, such as the partly underground Melbourne’s City Loop. It also draws attention to the important role that railway plays in the city, which is not only a transport function. Significance in the spatial structure of the city is also the importance of stations or train stops themselves. The publication also describes plans for the future development of the system, which respond to the challenges facing a thriving city.
