German Synodal Way
Christianity in Europe
the crisis of the Church
self-destruction of the German Church
necessary reforms in the Catholic Church
Opis:
Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller, the closest associate of Pope Benedict XVI, theologically as if his Alter-Ego, is certainly one of the best experts in the Catholic Church in Germany. And it is he who compares the present condition of this Church to the catastrophe of such a huge and luxurious Titanic, which, however, is slowly sinking, because those responsible turned out to be reckless and did  not predict the worst. Indeed, so far the application of almost all criteria that apply to the evaluation of a religious community has shown that, in fact, since the Second Vatican Council, this Church has been losing its vitality and shrinking. However, the so-called Synodal Way has deteriorated even more dramatically in recent times. Its agenda includes goals and demands that are contrary to both Revelation and the Tradition of the Church, and that are contrary to common sense. These are the goals and demands that  have been made by even extreme left and atheistic ideologues and politicians, and which are now to move to the center and  foundations of church teaching. It seems that just as almost all English bishops in the 16th century succumbed to the state violence of King Henry VIII and betrayed  Christ and the Church, today the vast majority of German clergymen succumb to ideological violence in the area of culture and the state and thus betray their own faith and betray Church and Christ. It seems that many of them are close to the ideas of Georg Wilhelm Hegel, who considered himself wiser and greater than all, also than Christ, and the thought of Friedrich Nietzsche, who wanted to replace the crucified Messiah with Dionysus – a patron of, among other things, debauchery. It seems that many of the faithful and clergy in Germany also want to carry out a sexual revolution in the Church as if the second Reformation, perhaps even more catastrophic than the first. It seems that they are putting gender theory in place of Revelation and Christianity. And gender is, in fact, another neo-Marxist pansexual ideology which elevates eroticism as if it were the most important value, more important  especially than God and one’s own salvation. One has to ask, how could such a great spiritual catastrophe of a Church that was once so numerous, so strong, so faithful and creative? We must ask what to do so that no more Church would destroy itself so that such a spiritual disease would not spread to other Churches. This article tries to answer these fundamental questions. It does so by analyzing the cultural, historical, national, economic, spiritual and religious conditions of German society that led to such an advanced process of self-destruction of the  Church.

Opis:
Engravers of the post-Tridentine period recorded the most important events of their time in their etching graphics. They created these works with a view to memorialise the events, but also in order to inform the public opinion about them and to influence their thinking. Hagiographic iconography was among the most frequent graphic themes of the time, which was owing to the atmosphere of the Tridentine reforms. The Council of Trent rediscovered art as a medium for communicating the religious message. The 16th and the 18th century witnessed an excessive confrontation between the European denominations, brutal religious wars and the Turkish invasion into Christian countries. Artistic accounts of the era display a lot of martial motifs, with noticeable emphasis on the endangered status of Christianity. Catholic Church directed human thinking towards God as an Almighty Power holding the world in His hands. The etching graphics that have survived until today testify to the prevalence of this message. The role of the Divine Providence was repeatedly highlighted, as was the mediation of the Mother of God and the Saints: they implored God to spare Christianity from the religious and military turmoil. The paper draws upon a vast selection of European etching graphics to present the power of the iconographic propaganda, with a special focus on the protective and supportive role of the Patron Saints.

Opis:
The article presents an outline of the contribution of Benedictine monks into the development of Christianity in its first centuries in Poland. Four aspects are taken into consideration: historical, spiritual, cultural and ecological, the latter understood in an integral way, i.e., including economy and administration. Moreover, a wider panorama of the contemporary activities of the Benedictine monasteries in Europe is also outlined in order to show how a more intense turning towards the Benedictine tradition might be helpful in resolving some problems now faced by the Church in Poland.

Opis:
Taking the Lithuanian perspective on the substantial progress of secularization processes Europe-wide, a number of general observations can be made. First and foremost, it must not be overlooked that the forefathers of the European integration process were politicians of the Christian democratic colour, and the process of integration as such was endorsed by the Holy See. Still, however, the Church would warn (and still warns) that it was impossible to build a true unity of the Old Continent by denying the Christian roots of the European culture and without respecting the rights inherent in human nature. The actual implementation of the idea of integration seems, however, to ignore some urgent warnings sent out by the Church. It facilitates the progress of secularization processes, and, in Lithuanian law, it manifests itself, among others, in the proposals of changes in regulations regarding marriage understood as a permanent union between a man and a woman. No doubt, it poses a major challenge to the Church; obviously, it will only be able to resist such tendencies if its firm stance and testimony deserve credibility. It should be noted, however, that the implementation of the proposals of separation of legal regulations from the principles inherent in human nature also threatens the society, regardless of the ideological standpoint of its members.

Opis:
This article attempts to answer the question: To what extent the secularity of Europe facilitates or hinders the process of integration of immigrants from Muslim countries? The answer to this question is based on selected literature about immigrants from Muslim countries in the UK, in selected research and observation of current activities of certain Muslim institutions in England. The paper consists of three parts. The first part is devoted to the demographic development of the Muslim community in the world and Europe, part two shows the processes of secularization in Europe, with particular attention paid to Britain. The third part examines the reaction of Muslims in the UK towards secularism in Europe, their proselytism and the importance of Christian-Muslim cooperation in the modernization of Islam. Analysis shows that secularization of Europe is much more of a challenge than an opportunity for the integration of immigrants from Muslim countries. In the first place, among the factors, hindering integration, one can put the Muslim conviction of the superiority of the Islamic values over the "godless" and "immoral" Europe and therefore religious mission that Muslims attempt to play in Europe. This type of attitude does not facilitate the coexistence between the Muslim community and the peoples of Europe. It also allows extreme groups, as terrorist recruiting young Muslims, especially second generation seeking their identity in religion.

The article indicates the disappearance of Christianity in Europe. The article refers to Christian hope as an inspiration and motivation to undertake evangelization activities. The article contains references to popes who see help for secularized Europe in Latin America and the people of this continent. The text emphasizes the importance of culture in experiencing religion and building relationships with God. It signals that re-evangelization is needed in modern Europe, which will lead to the rebuilding of Christian identity. The text also emphasizes that Christianity is a religion for everyone, and Christian teaching should be uniform.

Krashovani are the Catholic Slavic language minority settled in the region of Romanian Banat. They live in seven villages: Karashevo, Clocotici, Lupac, Nermet, Vodnic, Rafnic and Iabalcea, however, the last one represents an untypical case from the linguists’ point of view, the habitants usually communicate in Romanian, though they continue to declare themselves Krashovani. Time and reason of possible switch have not been clarified yet, as well as the Krashovanis’ ethnogenesis and detailed history. The most popular scientific theories attach them to Serbians or Croatians. Although their archaic idiom contains more features of Kosovo-Resava or Prizren-Timok dialect areas, recently the locals have started to define themselves as Croatians, mainly due to the influences of the Catholic church and modern Croatian cultural politics. In this paper based on the results of our fieldwork in Karashevo, we analyze some particularities of the contemporary ethnolinguistic situation there, paying special attention to the actual state of both Slavic and Romanian idioms used in this microregion.
