Artykuł wskazuje, że ich zadanie to umacnianie wiary, oraz wyjaśnia, jakie konsekwencje niesie ze sobą to posłannictwo. Benedykt XVI podkreśla, że życie konsekrowane nie rozmija się ze swoją istotą jedynie wtedy, gdy jest przeżywane w wierze. Oczekuje od osób całkowicie oddanych Bogu, by żyły głęboką wiarą, intensywną i żywą więzią osobową z Chrystusem, w dynamice ciągłego poszukiwania Oblicza Pana, a od konkretnej realizacji tych postaw uzależniona jest odnowa ich życia. Analiza papieskiej myśli pozwala wyciągnąć ważne wnioski wyznaczające kierunek wyjścia z kryzysowej sytuacji, w której współcześnie znajduje się życie konsekrowane.
The article addresses the issue of faith in the life of consecrated persons. Its aim is to state in what sense – in the light of the thought of Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI – faith is the foundation for the renewal of the life of those consecrated to God. The article points out that their task is to strengthen the faith; it explains what consequences this mission entails. Benedict XVI emphasises that only a consecrated life lived in faith does not fail to live up to its essence. He expects persons totally dedicated to God to live a profound faith, an intense and living personal relationship with Christ, in a dynamic of constant search for the Face of the Lord, and the renewal of their lives depends on the concrete realisation of these attitudes. The analysis of the Pope’s thought allows us to draw important conclusions that point the way out of the crisis situation in which consecrated life finds itself today.

In the tradition of Christian contemplation, we find much encouragement to both contemplate nature and how we can discover God the Creator through it and how His love is imprinted on it. St Ignatius, however, in his Contemplation for the Achievement of Love, invites the praying person to contemplate not only creation, but also himself and his body. Since there is little research or literature on contemplation of the body, the author pays special attention to it in this article. He argues that the Triune God wants to reveal Himself to every man, not only through the book of nature and the Bible, but also through his body, and that contemplation of his body can be of great help to him in this. In the first chapter he briefly defines the meaning of contemplation and then turns to an understanding of the human body in the light of Scripture and spiritual theology. In the last part, he gives various examples of how we can contemplate the body and its various parts to allow the active presence and love of the Triune God to be revealed to us.
W tradycji kontemplacji chrześcijańskiej znajdujemy wiele zachęt do kontemplowania przyrody i tego, jak dzięki niej możemy odkryć Boga Stwórcę i Jego miłość, która jest na niej wyciśnięta. Natomiast św. Ignacy w Kontemplacji dla osiągnięcia miłości zachęca modlącego się do kontemplowania nie tylko stworzenia, ale także siebie samego i swojego ciała. Ponieważ nie ma zbyt wielu badań ani literatury na temat kontemplacji ciała, autor poświęca jej szczególną uwagę w tym artykule. Przekonuje, że Trójjedyny Bóg pragnie objawić się każdemu człowiekowi nie tylko poprzez księgę przyrody i Biblię, ale także poprzez jego ciało, a kontemplacja ciała może mu w tym bardzo pomóc. W pierwszym rozdziale krótko definiuje znaczenie kontemplacji, a następnie przechodzi do zrozumienia ciała ludzkiego w świetle Pisma Świętego i teologii duchowości. W ostatnim rozdziale podaje różne przykłady, w jaki sposób możemy kontemplować ciało lub jego poszczególne części i pozwolić, aby objawiła się nam czynna obecność i miłość Trójjedynego Boga.

Celem artykułu jest charakterystyka pojęcia kontemplacji, jaką proponują polscy mistycy żyjący między XIV a XX wiekiem. Materiałem badawczym jest Antologia mistyki polskiej pod redakcją Mariana Zawady OCD, której pierwszy tom obejmuje teksty mężczyzn, a drugi — kobiet. Z materiału wyekscerpowano wszystkie fragmenty zawierające analizowane pojęcie w celu określenia kontekstów, w jakich polscy mistycy używają tego słowa. Badanie skupiło się na zdaniach mających formę definicji. Zostało ono wzbogacone odniesieniami do definicji kontemplacji istniejącej w obecnej Encyklopedii katolickiej, jak i do tej, która znajduje się w słownikach języka polskiego. Badanie ukazało bogactwo treści teologicznych i piękno języka zawarte w tekstach polskich mistyków. Przekaz zapisany przez osoby doświadczające kontemplacji znacznie poszerza bowiem wiedzę czerpaną jedynie ze słowników. Badanie ukazało także ogromne oczytanie i obycie polskich mistyków — ich refleksje nie odbiegają od tekstów wielkich teologów i mistyków innych krajów i jak najbardziej zasługują na włączenie ich do współcześnie pisanych prac teologicznych.
The purpose of this article is to characterize the concept of contemplation as proposed by Polish mystics living between the 14th and 20th centuries. The research material is the Anthology of polish mysticism edited by Marian Zawada OCD, the first volume of which includes texts by men and the second by women. All fragments containing the analyzed concept were excerpted from the material in order to determine the contexts in which Polish mystics use the word. The study focused on sentences in the form of definitions. The research has been enriched with references to the definition of contemplation that exists in the current Catholic Encyclopedia, as well as the one found in dictionaries of the Polish language. The study showed the richness of theological content and the beauty of language contained in the texts of Polish mystics. The message recorded by those experiencing contemplation greatly expands the knowledge gleaned from dictionaries alone. The analysis proved that Polish mystics were very educated and well-read — their reflections do not differ from the texts of the great theologians and mystics of other countries, and as much as possible deserve to be included in contemporary theological works.

The concept of missionary spirituality falls within the mainstream of Christian spirituality. John Paul II understands it in the personalistic and Christological perspective. According to the Pope’s thought, the missionary spirituality is the fruit of the total submission to the Holy Spirit in the missionary’s aim to become permanently conformed to Christ. This attitude results from a deep union with the Holy Trinity in the experience of the Father through Jesus Christ, in the Holy Spirit. Imitating Christ, the preacher of the Gospel, is essential for an authentic missionary spirituality. Following the ideal of missionary spirituality leads to an authentic inculturation, love of the Church, shapes the proper spirit of prayer and missionary asceticism, dynamises apostolic commitment and lays the foundations for a true dialogue, inseparable from the missionary activity.
Pojęcie duchowości misyjnej mieści się w głównym nurcie rozumienia duchowości chrześcijańskiej. Jan Paweł II postrzega ją w personalistycznej i chrystologicznej perspektywie. Zgodnie z jego myślą duchowość misyjna jest owocem całkowitego poddania się Duchowi Świętemu w dążeniu misjonarza do trwałego upodobnienia się do Chrystusa. Postawa ta wynika z głębokiego zjednoczenia z całą Trójcą Świętą, zjednoczenia z Ojcem przez Jezusa Chrystusa, w Duchu Świętym. Naśladowanie Chrystusa, głosiciela Ewangelii, jest niezbędnym elementem duchowości misyjnej. Jej praktyka prowadzi do autentycznej inkulturacji, miłości do Kościoła, kształtuje właściwego ducha modlitwy i ascezy misyjnej, dynamizuje zaangażowanie apostolskie i kładzie podwaliny pod prawdziwy dialog, nierozerwalnie związany z misyjną działalnością Kościoła.

Ursula Ledóchowska addresses the issue of the Christian vocation and tasks of women on many occasions and in various aspects, pointing to Mary as a model to follow. St Ursula’s writings contain a broad vision of the spiritual motherhood, encompassing mothers in the family, all lay women and religious sisters completely dedicated to God. Every Christian woman is called to spiritual motherhood, to guide and support people in their path to God; her mission is the apostolate of quiet, serene love, the apostolate of prayer and the apostolate of sacrifice in the image of Christ. A special task of the mother in the family is to care for the development of the faith of her children. The essence of a nun’s spiritual motherhood is to lead others to Christ by His bride totally devoted to the Holy Trinity.
Urszula Ledóchowska wielokrotnie i w różnych aspektach podejmuje temat chrześcijańskiego powołania i zadań kobiety, wskazując na Maryję jako na wzór do naśladowania. W pismach św. Urszuli zawarta jest szeroka wizja macierzyństwa duchowego, obejmująca zarówno matki w rodzinie, wszystkie kobiety świeckie, jak i siostry zakonne całkowicie oddane na własność Bogu. Każda chrześcijańska kobieta powołana jest do macierzyństwa duchowego, do prowadzenia i wspierania osób w ich drodze do Boga; jej misją jest apostolstwo: cichej, pogodnej miłości, modlitwy i ofiary na wzór Chrystusa. Szczególnym zadaniem matki w rodzinie jest troska o rozwój wiary jej dzieci. Istotą macierzyństwa duchowego siostry zakonnej jest prowadzenie innych do Chrystusa przez Jego oblubienicę całkowicie oddaną Trójcy Świętej.

Just as all the world's religions know ascesis, so does Christianity. This fact raises different questions: Is ascesis the same in Christianity as in other religions? How do Christians understand ascesis? Can we say that there is a Christian ascesis? In this article the authors try to answer these questions. First, they briefly define the term ascesis, and then they outline the biblical foundations of ascesis and its history. Then they show how Christians understand ascesis and in what sense it is Christian ascesis, and its various forms. Finally, they show the criteria of discernment that must be observed in order for ascesis to be authentically Christian and to enable one to live freedom in Christ and the fullness of life in the love of God the Father through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit.
Tak jak wszystkie religie świata znają ascezę, tak i chrześcijaństwo. Fakt ten rodzi różne pytania: Czy asceza w chrześcijaństwie jest taka sama jak w innych religiach? Jak chrześcijanie rozumieją ascezę? Czy możemy powiedzieć, że istnieje chrześcijańska asceza? W niniejszym artykule autorzy starają się odpowiedzieć na te pytania. Najpierw krótko definiują termin „asceza”, a następnie przedstawiają biblijne podstawy ascezy i jej historię. Następnie pokazują, jak chrześcijanie rozumieją ascezę i w jakim sensie jest to asceza chrześcijańska oraz jej różne formy. Na koniec przedstawiają kryteria rozeznawania, których należy przestrzegać, aby asceza była autentycznie chrześcijańska i umożliwiała życie w wolności w Chrystusie oraz w pełni życia w miłości Boga Ojca przez Jezusa Chrystusa w Duchu Świętym.

CEL NAUKOWY: Celem artykułu jest odtworzenie utrwalonych w świadomości językowej młodych Europejczyków – Polaków, Rosjan i Niemców sposobów rozumienia wartości chrześcijańskich jako jednego z aspektów duchowości.  PROBLEM I METODY BADAWCZE: Problem badawczy został sformułowany jako pytania: Czym są dziś wartości chrześcijańskie dla młodych obywateli Europy? Czy dla wyznawców katolicyzmu, prawosławia i protestantyzmu są one tak samo ważne i niosą identyczne treści oraz przesłania? W celu pozyskania danych językowych zastosowano psycholingwistyczne narzędzie badawcze – test swobodnych skojarzeń werbalnych z wyrazami hasłowymi wartości chrześcijańskie, christliche Werte, xристианские ценности. Do analizy materiału empirycznego wykorzystano wypracowaną na gruncie lingwistyki kognitywnej metodę profilowania pojęć, a także metodę analizy frekwencyjnej. PROCES WYWODU: Wywód rozpoczyna uzasadnienie wyboru problematyki wartości chrześcijańskich oraz ukazanie specyfiki istoty duchowości i jej związków z aksjologią. Następnie przedstawiono metodologię zebrania i analizy danych językowych. Część trzecia to omówienie wyników testu swobodnych skojarzeń werbalnych oraz wnioski. WYNIKI ANALIZY NAUKOWEJ: Za wartościami chrześcijańskimi kryją się w przekonaniu respondentów przede wszystkim idee zawarte w Dekalogu, w dalszej kolejności ogólnie pojmowana moralność. Symbolizują je krzyż, Biblia i ikona. Transmisja i pielęgnowanie wartości należą do zadań Kościoła. W świadomości językowej respondentów niemieckich i polskich dokonuje się raczej negatywna ewaluacja wartości chrześcijańskich, badani Rosjanie mają do nich stosunek ambiwalentny. WNIOSKI, INNOWACJE, REKOMENDACJE: Wartości chrześcijańskie są kategorią aksjologiczną silnie utrwaloną w świadomości językowej przedstawicieli trzech zbiorowości etnicznych. Eksploracja pól asocjacyjnych wykazuje, że profile wartości chrześcijańskich różnią się stopniem złożoności, nasycenia i frekwencji oraz ukształtowaniem pod względem językowym, ujawniając jednakże podobieństwo w zakreślonej skojarzeniami rozpiętości semantycznej.
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of the article is to recreate the ways of understanding Christian values as one of the aspects of spirituality, established in the linguistic consciousness of young Europeans – Poles, Russians and Germans. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem was formulated as questions: What are the Christian values today for young European citizens? Are they equally important for the followers of Catholicism, Orthodoxy and Protestantism and do they carry identical content and messages for them? In order to obtain linguistic data, a psycholinguistic research tool was used – the test of free verbal associations to stimulus-words wartości chrześcijańskie, christliche Werte, xристианские ценности. The method of concept profiling, worked out on the basis of cognitive linguistics, and the frequency analysis method were used to analyze the empirical material. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The argumentation begins with the justification of the choice of the problem of Christian values and showing the specificity of the essence of spirituality and its relations with axiology. Then, the methodology of collecting and analyzing linguistic data was presented. The third part discusses the results of the free verbal association test and conclusions. RESEARCH RESULTS: In the opinion of the respondents, the Christian values are mainly hidden by the ideas contained in the Decalogue, followed by the generally understood morality. They are symbolized by the cross, the Bible and the icons.  In the linguistic consciousness of the German and Polish respondents, the evaluation of Christian values is rather negative, the Russian respondents have an ambivalent attitude towards them.  CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIOS: C The exploration of the associative fields shows that the profiles of Christian values differ both in the degree of complexity, saturation and frequency, and in linguistic shape, as well, revealing, however, the similarity in the semantic range delineated by associations.

This article presents the importance of the Psalms in the life of a Christian in the light of the teaching of Benedict XVI. The Psalms allow us to dialogue with God in His words. They are a true school of prayer: they teach us to turn to God in every state of mind, in every situation and with every emotion that man experiences. The Psalms take on their full meaning and value in the light of the Person of Jesus Christ. In praying the psalms, the Christian addresses himself to the Father in Christ and with Christ, opening himself to a new perspective which has its ultimate interpretative key in the paschal mystery. In this way he comes to know the Saviour better and can deepen his relationship with Him. Praying the Psalms is important in the contemporary context because, in times of crisis of hope and forgetfulness of God, it teaches us to seek reliable support in the Creator and Saviour and to turn always to Him.

Triada „fiat, magnificat i służba” podaje kluczowe słowa, które stanowią życiowy drogowskaz dla wszystkich wierzących i pozwalają przybliżyć się do misterium Matki Zbawiciela oraz spojrzeć na Jej relacje z Bogiem i z ludźmi.
This article presents the bases of a Marian spirituality in the writings of St. Ursula Ledóchowska. According to the foundress of the Congregation of the Ursuline Sisters of the Agonizing Heart of Jesus, the words: "fiat, magnificat and service" point what is fundamental in following the Mother of God, who is a faithful handmaid of the Lord, opened to God's plans and intentions, accepting God's will and His guidance, which exceeds human ability to understand and comprehend. The triad of "fiat, magnificat and service" gives the key words that constitute a life signpost for all believers and allow them to come closer to the mystery of the Mother of the Saviour and to look at Her relationship with God and with people.

It aims to show how the founder of the Congregation of the Ursuline Sisters of the Agonizing Heart of Jesus defines prayer, how she describes it and what she pays attention, giving recommendations, indications and advices concerning the life of prayer. Saint Ursula underlines not so much the importance of many forms and types of prayer, but she emphasizes the personal relationship with God. This distribution of accents makes more characteristic for St. Ursula to speak about the spirit of prayer than about prayer itself in the strict sense.

Proces sekularyzacji i relatywizacji życia współczesnego człowieka dotyka wierzących w ich doświadczeniu Kościoła. Jednocześnie zauważalne jest zainteresowanie duchowością, ale często o charakterze zindywidualizowanym i pozaeklezjalnym. Stąd wynika konieczność refleksji nad właściwym rozumieniem tożsamości i misji Kościoła. Adekwatnym pojęciem dla opisania tej tożsamości jest communio. Artykuł wyjaśnia właściwe jego rozumienie w kluczu biblijnym ze względu na wieloznaczność, która występuje w publikacjach z zakresu teologii, a także w naukach pozateologicznych. Szczególnego znaczenia nabiera ono na gruncie teologii duchowości, określając charakter jedności pomiędzy Bogiem a człowiekiem. Analiza Starego Testamentu odsłania istotne aspekty komunijne wynikające z Przymierza. Analiza Nowego Testamentu wskazuje zaś, że w Jezusie Chrystusie dokonała się pełnia komunijnego zjednoczenia, która znajduje swoją kontynuację w Kościele. Z tego względu duchowość chrześcijanina musi być interpersonalna, chrystocentryczna, chrystoformiczna oraz eklezjalna. Ten proces kształtuje życie moralne, znajdujące swoje odzwierciedlenie w życiu indywidualnym, społecznym, ekonomicznym, a nawet politycznym.
The process of secularization and relativization of modern man’s life touches the believers in their experience of the Church. At the same time, there is a noticeable interest in spirituality, but often of an individualized and non-religious nature. Hence, the necessity arises to reflect on the proper understanding of the identity of the Church. The appropriate concept for describing this identity is communio. The article explains its proper understanding in the biblical key due to the ambiguity that occurs in publications in the field of theology, as well as in non-theological sciences. It acquires a special meaning in the theology of spirituality, by defining the character of unity between God and man. The analysis of the Old Testament reveals essential aspects of the communion arising from the covenant. The analysis of the New Testament shows that the fullness of communion was accomplished in Jesus Christ, and it finds its continuation in the Church. Therefore, Christians’ spirituality should be interpersonal, Christocentric, Christoformic and ecclesial. This process shapes moral life, reflected in individual, social, economic and even political life.

Artykuł przedstawia zagadnienie pogody ducha jako radości paschalnej w pismach św. Urszuli Ledóchowskiej. Założycielka Zgromadzenia Sióstr Urszulanek Serca Jezusa Konającego, której duchowość cechuje się realizmem, ukazuje przede wszystkim rzeczywisty fundament postawy pogody ducha i jej najgłębsze źródła. W ujęciu matki Ledóchowskiej pogoda ducha jest dojrzałą syntezą radości i cierpienia, jest doświadczeniem mocy Boga działającej w słabości człowieka; stanowi dar, który wymaga od osoby zarówno wyrzeczenia, jak i świadomej współpracy z Bogiem; nie można pojąć pogody ducha bez tajemnicy krzyża Chrystusowego. Święta Urszula akcentuje ascetyczny i apostolski charakter pogody ducha. Artykuł uzasadnia – wbrew temu, co już próbowano pokazać (jakoby pogoda ducha prowadziła do wątpliwej teologicznie „duchowości optymizmu”) – że pogoda ducha wiąże się z duchowością nadziei teologalnej.
The article presents the issue of serenity as Easter joy in the writings of St. Urszula Ledóchowska. The foundress of the Congregation of the Ursuline Sisters of the Agonizing Heart of Jesus, whose spirituality is characterized by realism, shows above all the real foundation of the attitude of serenity and its deepest sources. According to Mother Ledóchowska, serenity is a mature synthesis of joy and suffering, it is an experience of God’s power working in human weakness; it is a gift that requires a person to both renounce and consciously cooperate with God; it cannot be understood without the mystery of the Cross of Christ. Saint Ursula emphasizes the ascetic and apostolic nature of cheerfulness. The article justifies – contrary to what has already been tried to show (that the serenity leads to theologically questionable „spirituality of optimism”) – that serenity is connected with the spirituality of theological hope.

Matka Ledóchowska jest autorką dzieła Rozmyślania, które zawiera rozważania oparte na poszczególnych fragmentach Ewangelii, przeznaczone na każdy dzień roku. Jej Testament jest również pełny odniesień biblijnych i przeniknięty logiką ewangeliczną. Według świętej Urszuli medytacja Słowa Bożego w duchu wiary pozwala lepiej poznać osobę Jezusa Chrystusa i pogłębiać z Nim więź. Matka Ledóchowska swoim podejściem do Pisma Świętego wyprzedziła II Sobór Watykański. Całe jej życie stanowiło żywą egzegezę słów Chrystusa.
The aim of this article is to present selected aspects of the biblical spirituality according to writings of Saint Ursula Ledóchowska. The Word of God has the central position in the spirituality of the Founder of the Congregation of the Ursuline Sisters of the Agonizing Heart of Jesus. Mother Ledóchowska is the author of Meditations, that contain considerations based on specific fragments of the Gospel, intended for each day of the year. Her Testament is also full of biblical references and permeated with the evangelical logic. According to Saint Ursula Ledóchowska the meditation of the Word of God in the spirit of faith enables us to learn more and get to know better the person of Jesus Christ and to deepen the relationship with Him. Mother Ledóchowska, by her attitude to the Holy Bible, was ahead of the Second Vatican Council’s time. All her life was an active exegesis of the words of Christ.

Współczesna architektura i sztuka sakralna zatraciły swoje pierwotne ukierunkowanie na korzyść nieczytelnych i wieloznacznych form. W ten sposób sztuka sakralna, w pewnym sensie, przesłała być rzeczywistością pomagającą w kontakcie człowieka z Bogiem, albo jak chcieli teoretycy sztuki sakralnej, narzędziem sprowadzającym Boga na ziemię. Tendencjom tym próbuje zaradzić o. Marko I. Rupnik, słoweński jezuita, teolog i ikonograf, założyciel Centrum Aletti – instytutu teologii i sztuki, promującego ideę „chrześcijańskiego oddechu dwóch płuc”, łączenia tradycji wschodniej i zachodniej, jaka tworzyła doktrynę niepodzielonego Kościoła. Efektem myśli teologicznej Rupnika jest sztuka liturgiczna, która – wpisana w architekturę – tworzy przestrzeń spotkania się człowieka z Bogiem.
Contemporary architecture and sacred art have lost their original instinct in favor of illegible and ambiguous forms. In this way, sacred art, in a sense, sent the message to be a reality that helps man in contact with God, or, as the theorists of sacred art wanted, a tool that brings God down to earth. These tendencies are being remedied by Fr. Marko I. Rupnik, a Slovenian Jesuit, theologian and iconographer, founder of the Aletti Center – an institute of theology and art, promoting the idea of “the Christian breathing of two lungs”, combining the Eastern and Western traditions, which formed the doctrine of the undivided Church. The effect of Rupnik’s theological thought is liturgical art, which, inscribed in architecture, creates a space for human meeting with God.
