Opis:
Just as all the world's religions know ascesis, so does Christianity. This fact raises different questions: Is ascesis the same in Christianity as in other religions? How do Christians understand ascesis? Can we say that there is a Christian ascesis? In this article the authors try to answer these questions. First, they briefly define the term ascesis, and then they outline the biblical foundations of ascesis and its history. Then they show how Christians understand ascesis and in what sense it is Christian ascesis, and its various forms. Finally, they show the criteria of discernment that must be observed in order for ascesis to be authentically Christian and to enable one to live freedom in Christ and the fullness of life in the love of God the Father through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit.
Tak jak wszystkie religie świata znają ascezę, tak i chrześcijaństwo. Fakt ten rodzi różne pytania: Czy asceza w chrześcijaństwie jest taka sama jak w innych religiach? Jak chrześcijanie rozumieją ascezę? Czy możemy powiedzieć, że istnieje chrześcijańska asceza? W niniejszym artykule autorzy starają się odpowiedzieć na te pytania. Najpierw krótko definiują termin „asceza”, a następnie przedstawiają biblijne podstawy ascezy i jej historię. Następnie pokazują, jak chrześcijanie rozumieją ascezę i w jakim sensie jest to asceza chrześcijańska oraz jej różne formy. Na koniec przedstawiają kryteria rozeznawania, których należy przestrzegać, aby asceza była autentycznie chrześcijańska i umożliwiała życie w wolności w Chrystusie oraz w pełni życia w miłości Boga Ojca przez Jezusa Chrystusa w Duchu Świętym.

The article discusses the problem of the christian concept of the human person in theological and philosophical context, and with reference to evolutionary sciences. It was pointed out that the naturalistic evolutionism undermines the most important assumptions (especially thesis proclaiming the unique status of human in nature), which is based on christian anthropology. In this paper it was also an attempt to justify that philosophical reflection can be important in the analysis of problems located between science and religion (among others the issue of the origin, nature and destiny of man). The question about new type of christian philosophy is a challenge in theology, which will be obliged – because of the changing image of the world and man – to modify its foundations, rooted mainly in the Thomistic metaphysics so far. Besides, in the context of issues relating to the meaning of human life it indicates that there is a need to develop such a philosophy, which is based on the achievements of natural science, and would be in dialogue with the contemporary humanities.

In one of the paintings in the Central Church of Abdallah-n-Irqi an enigmatic element can be seen: a small figure of a man in a jar. No satisfactory explanation for this detail has been found so far. Although a parallel representation seemed to have been discovered in Banganarti, it remains a unique and problematic representation. On the basis of a renewed investigation of the iconography of martyrs in the fourth century, the author proposes a new interpretation of the man in the vessel.

In the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th, many Jews belonging to high society and undertaking freelance occupations began to assimilate with their usually Christian environment. This was often a necessary prerequisite (also legally) for their social advancement. Nevertheless, their assimilation was rarely complete. In most cases, it was only partial and concerned clothes, everyday habits and education. The change in religion did not become a mass phenomenon in either Europe or America – quite the opposite. This limited assimilation was testament to the Jewish attachment to their religion, regardless of the centuries-long life in the Diaspora. Although numerous changes had occurred in the world, many of the rules respected by Jews throughout history remained valid. The article offers an architectural analysis of a late antique and medieval type of church characterized by a naos with four pillars or columns supporting the roof. Variants that can be distinguished include one with a passage around the supports and another in which the supports form a cross-in-square. The analyzed type is poorly represented in the church architecture of Egypt, but is well attested in Lower Nubia. Nubian examples of the type give an idea of what the lost Egyptian prototypes may have looked like.

The article traces two related currents of East-Galician philosophical thought of the first half of the 20th century: the secular and the religious one. Secular philosophy is presented on the basis of the works by V. Levynskiy, I. Mirchuk, M. Shlemkevych. The religious movement, represented by the leaders of Greek-Catholic clergy, was analyzed based on the works by G. Kostelnik, J. Slipyj, A. Sheptytsky. The study presents the main ideas of philosophical works such as humanistic, Christian and national values.
W artykule omówiono dwa spokrewnione nurty wschodniogalicyjskiej myśli filozoficznej pierwszej połowy XX w.: świecki i religijny. Filozofię świecką przedstawiono na podstawie dzieł W. Lewińskiego, I. Mirczuka, M. Szlemkiewicza. Nurt religijny, który reprezentują działacze kleru greckokatolickiego, przeanalizowano, opierając się na pracach H. Kostelnyka, J. Slipego, A. Szeptyckiego. Omówiono główne idee dzieł filozoficznych, takie jak wartości humanistyczne, chrześcijańskie i narodowe.

Both in the past and today an act of bearing witness to faith in God through martyrdom has been a unique sign and testimony of love for Christ who himself was obedient to the Father usque ad mortem. It is at the same time a clear judgment against those cultures, which acknowledge odium fidei. In his moral encyclical Veritatis Splendor John Paul II points to several arguments in order to emphasize that the way of martyrdom has lost none of its relevance and significance for Christians nowadays. The Pope’s claim is grounded on the fact that “faith possesses a moral content” and so it is false to separate faith (credenda) from moral life (agenda) of those who believe. Consequently, in particular circumstances Christians are called to be ready to lay their lives both for love of God and acceptance of his commandments. Through imitating their Lord usque ad sanguinem his disciples demonstrate and defend their human dignity received from the Creator, the holiness of God’s law as well as the holiness of the Church.
Poprzez całe dzieje chrześcijaństwa męczeństwo było szczególnym znakiem wierności wierze w Boga i wyrazem posłuszeństwa na wzór samego Chrystusa. Zarazem było i jest znakiem miłości “do końca” i sprzeciwu wobec każdej kultury, która głosi odium fidei. Jednocześnie w nauczaniu Kościoła dostrzega sie ewolucję rozumienia tego odium, które coraz szerzej obejmuje również kontekst kulturowy czy społeczny. W swojej encyklice moralnej Jan Paweł II wskazuje na kilka szczególnych argumentów na rzecz aktualności i znaczenia postawy męczeństwa, które staje na straży nie tylko samej wiary, ale również życia moralnego tych, którzy wierzą. Wiara i moralność są bowiem nierozerwalne. Stąd świadectwo męczeństwa potwierdza blask prawdy moralnej, a więc zobowiązującą wierność wymaganiom prawa moralnego wypływającym z godności osoby ludzkiej, ukazuje świętość prawa Bożego, a zarazem jawi sie jako znak świętości Kościoła.

The Part I discussed Lewis’s anti-naturalistic arguments from the existence of morality, reason, desires and numinous experiences. In Part II these arguments are contrasted with what Lewis wrote about God, faith and life after death in the period following the passing of his wife, a great loss for the thinker. It is shown that Lewis’ case does not fit the model, where it is assumed that religious faith flourishes if the role of reason is being limited, or that various antinaturalistic claims are more likely to be accepted, if the reason is somehow „stifled”.

A careful examination of the text of Pope John Paul II’s encyclical Ut unum sint allows us to see, first of all, the fact that His Holiness was closely acquainted with the ecclesiological doctrine of the Second Vatican Council, in which he, in fact, played an active part, including by drafting some synodal documents, such as the decree on ecumenism Unitatis redintegratio. Moreover, in his ecumenical approach, Pope John Paul II aptly advocated for the participation of the Catholic Church in the work of the Ecumenical Council of Churches and for the restoration of the unity of Christians, hence his full ecumenical commitment to engage in ecumenical dialogue with all the Churches, and particularly with the Eastern Church, which he suggestively called “sister Church”. In fact, both his pastoral-practical activity of ecumenical commitment, as well as his encyclicals, abundantly confirm that the Supreme Pontiff has indeed made a praiseworthy contribution to the cause of Christian unity, which the Founder of the Church himself wanted (cf. John 17:21), and which must remain an example for us Christians of today and tomorrow.

From close to its inception, St. Augustine’s misunderstanding of the nature of ancient Greek philosophy, “Christian philosophy,” and the way the human soul essentially relates to human body caused formal Christian education to be (a) born in a somewhat unhealthy condition, (b) founded upon a devastating mistake of organizational self-misunderstanding, which essentially prevented it from comprehending how human reason could function both abstractly as a contemplative (or speculative) scientific intellect and concretely as a command and control prudential reason. This flaw in Augustinian psychology of the human person and Augustine’s misunderstanding of the nature of ancient Greek philosophy continued to influence Christian education from the start of the Christian West until the Christian and secular universities of today. For contemporary Christian education to preserve its identity in an increasingly fragmented world, a psychology of the human person adequate to explain the essential connection between the human soul and body and the nature of philosophy must replace this flawed Augustinian psychology that continues to plague the contemporary world.

The author examines Gilson’s development of the term “theologism” from his 1937 The Unity of Philosophical Experience and his 1938 Reason and Revelation in the Middle Ages. This term is important for understanding Gilson’s developing doctrine on Christian philosophy. The treatment of it helps to show how Gilson’s understanding of Christian philosophy does not entail the formal conflation of philosophy with Christianity—as some have accused. In fact, the knowledge of what theologism is—referring primarily to the misuse of philosophy by the theologian—helps to set the stage for seeking an understanding of the proper relationship of Christianity to philosophy, a unity which maintains formal distinction. This knowledge also provides a hermeneutical tool for the proper interpretation of Gilson’s later writings on Christian philosophy.

St. Gregory of Nazianzus was born in a Christian family wherein he re-ceived a Christian education together with his humanities and theology. After the Council of Nicaea (325 A.D.) and that of Constantinople (380 A.D.), the faith in the Triune God was a pillar siblings. Also, thanks to the care of his parents, he obtained a thorough education in of Christian doctrine, which resulted in the care of passing it on in the ecclesial communities of the fourth century. Pastors of the Church in Cappadocia and Asia Minor took care of the correct formation of the faithful who were entrusted to them, and combat any heterodox ideas which were proclaimed in many circles.

The article presents an episode of the history of the parish in Skwierzyna at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Rev. Chrystian Szmitt (Schmidt, Smitt) was a parish priest at the time. Although he was an honest man, he proved to be quite inept and passive. The parish church in Skwierzyna was destroyed during the fire in 1794. Rev. Szmitt was unable to handle its reconstruction, nor did he want to relocate parish services to other churches in the area, even though he was recommended to do so by the Church and state authorities. He did not manage to systematically teach the truths of faith. He could not find a suitable place for the cemetery either. The parishioners accused him of squandering church money. He, however, expected that the diocesan authorities would increase his income from the parish through joining the surrounding villages. It was not until 1817 that a new assistant curate came to the parish – a Cistercian, Fr Wawrzyniec Franke, who managed to put administrative and pastoral affairs in order.

Christian parties, which emerged as organized parliamentary powers in the second half of the 20th century, have a long history and initial phase, which is presented in this paper. The period of their historical, progressive development was a breakthrough, and a transition from the pre-revolutionary era to the post-revolutionary world, characterized by the liberalization of a strong state, industrialization and the emergence of social problems, new ideologies and processes of secularization. The development of Christian-democratic parties in Poland took place with almost two decades of delay in relation to the flwering of Christian democratic parties in Western Europe. The fist Christian democratic parties appeared in Poland only in the interwar period. During this period, the weakest point of Polish Christian democrats was the small share of intelligence in its ranks and lack of support from the Catholic Church. In the early 1990s, numerous Christian democratic groups began to appear on the Polish political scene, but none of them retained their positions for longer. First of all, it was characterized by a huge gap, almost arbitrary programme, which often had more to do with conservative ideology than with Christian-democratic one.

A well established program can be observed in the decoration of the northern pastophoria of Nubian churches from the 9th/10th century onwards. It consisted of a painted representation of Jesus Christ blessing with his right hand the chalice held in his left and inscriptions in Greek with prayers from the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts. The authors argue that this program was a Nubian creation, alluding to the function of the northern pastophorium as a place for storing oblations, keeping liturgical implements and liturgical reserve, and possibly also celebrating the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts.

Metoda wykresograficzna ułatwia nie tylko wizualne postrzeganie prawd wiary, ale także zrozumienie podstawowych postulatów związanych z motywacją dobroczynności chrześcijańskiej. Kluczową rolę pełni tutaj wykres „Cały Chrystus”, złożony z dwóch okręgów i dwóch trójkątów złączonych ze sobą w pozycji wertykalnej, w które została wpisana ikona Chrystusa Miłosiernego w formie mocno rozjaśnionej. W swoich kolejnych modyfikacjach ukazuje on chrześcijańską dobroczynność w kategoriach chrystocentrycznych, gdzie jej motywem nadrzędnym winna być zawsze miłość do „Całego Chrystusa”.
The graphic presentation method facilitates not only the visual perception of the truths of the faith, but also the understanding of the basic demands related to motivation for Christian charity. The key role is played here by the graph “Whole Christ” composed of two circles and two triangles connected vertically with an inscribed icon of Merciful Christ in a considerably brightened form. In its further modifications, it shows Christian charity in Christocentric categories, where the principal motive should always be love for the “Whole Christ”.

This personalism is a system of upbringing that respects the nature and value of man who ‘humanizes’ the world and expresses himself while constantly evolving. The article raises a problem of the spirituality of Christian charity with a particular emphasis on poverty. Firstly, it focuses on the culture of exclusion and its many dimensions, drawing on the recent Polish studies. Following that it emphasises the foundations of Christian charity. Further, it goes on to presenting the ecclesial (Church and community based) dimension of the ministry of mercy and a number of both internal and external difficulties in the practical implementation of this idea in the specific conditions of daily life. The article concludes that exclusion is a particular area in life that calls for the ministry of charity towards the ones in need.

The present paper aims at analysing two inscriptions from the Faras Cathedral. Both contain prayers addressed to God by certain individuals. The first of them is in Greek and is modelled on Ps. 85:1–2; the second is an original composition in Old Nubian with information about the protagonist and the author in Greek. The publication gives the description of inscriptions, transcript of texts with critical apparatus, translation, and commentary elucidating all significant aspects of the texts.

Appreciating the meaning of the liturgy in the overall activity of the Church consequently leads to the discovery of its relationship with Christian spirituality. This has resulted in the emergence of a field of theology called liturgical spirituality, in which the liturgy of the Church determines the quality of life of the believer and at the same time shapes it. Considering the importance and role of the Eucharist in a Christian’s life, the fullest realization of liturgical spirituality is a believer’s participation in the Eucharistic liturgy. Hence, we can talk about a so-called Eucharistic spirituality, which is an example of liturgical spirituality. The issue discussed in this article is summarized in the following question: how does the Eucharist shape the Christian life of a believer participating in it?.

The main objective of this paper is to present the current state of empirical research on the application of the theory of Jungian types to the psychology of religion and spirituality, pointing out the necessity of broadening them by including Polish context. The paper presents an outline of this theory and the methods of studying these types (MBTI, KTS, FPTS) used in religion and spiritual-ity. Next, the author presents the results of research on the relation between aspects of the theory of psychological types and the religiosity variables, prayer, and spirituality of individuals as well as groups and centers connected with religion and spirituality. The paper concludes with comments concerning the most important empirical findings and their value for science and practice. A need for research aimed at the verification and generalization of the obtained results with reference to the modern reinterpretations of Jung’s theory and methods of studying personality is also pointed out.

The outbreak and Balkan and Anatolian trajectories of the rebellions of Borkluce Mustafa and Sheikh Bedreddin in 1416 still pose a series of religio-historic problems which still do not allow a satisfactory and detailed reconstruction of their chronology. Widening the investigation of the source base for these uprisings and their following remains a crucial desideratum for a better understanding of the turbulent period of the Ottoman interregnum and the Ottoman-Byzantine transition in eastern Anatolia in the early fifteenth century. Apart from the social and political features of the rebellions (which have been treated in a variety of contrasting ideological and methodological frameworks, their striking religious dimension has been also increasingly attracting scholarly and general attention. Earlier and recent research on the Ottoman interregnum period have occasionally advanced arguments for the active participation of Christian heretical groups, whether Christian dualist (Bogomil or Paulician) or radical apocalyptic insurgents of Eastern or Western Christian provenance. Drawing on new advances in research on religious trends in the late Byzantine and Balkan Orthodox and early Ottoman religious life and inter-religious contacts, the paper will offer an reassessment of the evidence of such proposed Christian heretical presence in the uprisings, while also exploring other venues for the provenance of their religious and trans-confessional underpinnings.

The article intends to demonstrate that a theology of vegetarianism is possible, despite some contrary evidence present in the biblical texts. Like other theologies dealing with issues not directly voiced in the Bible, it becomes possible to interpret the biblical statements in a new way, on the bases of a specific methodology. As a result, an objective comprehension will go back inductively to Sacred Scripture. The article advocates for applying this new method as well as for introducing its ethical implications into the Christian tradition. An additional supportive argument in favour of establishing the new understanding can be found in the history of the Roman Church, besides the consolidated custom of carnivorous nutrition: there has been no shortage of positions in favour of vegetarian asceticism. This stance was also represented by Thomas Aquinas. By valorizing classic Christian authors in favour of vegetarianism (starting with Jerome), the inauguration of the theology of vegetarianism becomes legitimised. Such an inauguration would reorient Christian thought toward reconsidering cosmology, ecology and topical contemporary issues such as anthropocentrism and speciesism.

The article analyzes the dispute between Étienne Gilson and Maurice Blondel. Their dispute is quite notorious and, even though all the reasons behind it are unknown, casts a shadow on the French philosophy of Christian inspiration in the last century. For both Gilson and Blondel are among the most illustrious representatives of it. The article attempts to reconcile Gilson and Blondel by referring to John Henry Newman. According to Henri de Lubac, “Blondel greatly admired Newman and, in that, Gilson joined him;” moreover, St. John Paul II, in Fides et Ratio, not only proposed the names of Newman and Gilson among the five thinkers of Western thought that he considered to be significant examples of “fruitful relationship between philosophy and the word of God” in their “courageous research,” but he also, considered their “philosophical works of great influence and lasting value.” The former Pope stated, “a philosophy which, starting with an analysis of immanence, opened the way to the transcendent,” just after devoting two paragraphs to praise the modern Thomistic revival and its fruits (§57–58). Could, then, blessed John Henry Newman be a possible tertium datum between Gilson and Blondel?

The article turns to Judith Butler’s writings on abjection to elucidate the Christian subjectivity that emerges from the Old English poetic life of Guthlac of Crowland, known as Guthlac A. The abject is defi ned as the other within the subject who is in the process of conversion from secular values and the Germanic past. Guthlac’s conversion from his secular and ancestral values informs a notion of masculinity nascent in his subjectivity, masculinity that results from the abjection of ancestral secular identity by transposing it onto the demonic other, the destruction of which transforms and sanitizes ancestral landscape.

Images of archangels and angels, which were painted on the walls, in the upper parts of the buildings and, on their structural elements, were very popular in Christian Nubian painting as attested by the discoveries from Church SWN.BV on the citadel in Old Dongola. These images, which derive from pre-Christian art, depict the eternal nature of the archangels and angels. Presenting this group of representations, the author traces the origins of these images to highlight the role of these spiritual beings as intermediaries between God and humankind. As such, they move freely between the Heavens and the Earth, so the air and cosmic space are their natural surroundings. Moreover, archangels govern the forces of nature, the planets, and the seven skies. Therefore, their sanctuaries were located on hill summits, in the upper chapels, on structural elements of ecclesiastical buildings, etc. The Nubian tradition is therefore part of a broader Mediterranean tradition, the roots of which should be sought in the Near East.

W tekście podjęto się prezentacji wybranych paradoksów pedagogiki chrześcijańskiej przyjmując, iż paradoksy chrześcijaństwa stanowią podstawę tożsamości tejże pedagogiki. Autorka wyjaśnia znaczenie terminów: „paradoks” i „pedagogika chrześcijańska”. Przywołuje też rozumienie zasadniczych celów wychowania chrześcijańskiego. Następnie omawia podstawowe dla tożsamości pedagogiki chrześcijańskiej paradoksy: Wcielenia, Tajemnicy Boga, która stworzyła człowieka do więzi z Nią samą, pedagogii chrześcijaństwa jako religii krzyża i zmartwychwstania, chrześcijańskiej obecności w świecie. W trzeciej części artykułu, korzystając głównie z przesłania Benedykta XVI i nauczania ks. Luigi Giussaniego, charakteryzuje trzy główne paradoksy współczesności. Są to: paradoks mentalności, która rości sobie prawo do mówienia o Bogu z pominięciem Chrystusa, paradoks ograniczenia znaku do pozoru i paradoks redukcji serca do sentymentu. Zakończenie zawiera próbę udokumentowania tezy głównej, mówiącej o związku przedstawionych paradoksów z tożsamością pedagogiki chrześcijańskiej.
In the text there were presented the chosen paradoxes of Christian Education assuming that paradoxes of Christianity form the basis of the pedagogical identity. The author explains the meaning of the terms ‘paradox’ as well as ‘Christian Education.’ The author also recalls the meaning of the essentials purposes and discusses the paradoxes which form the basis of Christian Education, such as: incarnations, Mystery of God, which created a human being in order to associated them with Mystery of God, the paradox of Christian Education as a religion of the cross and resurrection as well as paradox of Christian existence in the entire world. In the third part of the article, through the message of Benedict XVI and the preaching of the priest Luigi Giussani, the author characterises three main paradoxes of contemporary mentality. The claim of the contemporary mentality is to speak about God, omitting Christ. It is the paradox of reducing the sign to its appearance as well as the paradox of reducing heart to a sentiment. The conclusion includes an attempt to testify the main argument concerning the relation of analyzed paradoxes with the identity of Christian Education.

Niewątpliwie dla życia Kościoła istotnym jest kult świętych – inspirujących wiernych, by wieść życie prawe i uczulających na możliwości angażowania swych talentów dla życia Kościoła. Jeden z najważniejszych pomorskich myślicieli okresu międzywojnia – ks. Franciszek Sawicki (1877–1952) rozumie świętość jako aktualizujący się wciąż proces kształtowania ludzkiej osobowości w duchu chrześcijańskiej aksjologii. Osobowość chrześcijańska to najistotniejszy motor kształtowania i rozwoju dziejów. W wartościach chrześcijańskich widzi czynniki, mające wpływ na kształtowanie ludzkiej osobowości w taki sposób, że mają one niebagatelny wpływ dla rozwoju kultury ludzkiej i dziejów cywilizacji. Tym samym swoją personalistyczną, chrześcijańską wizją włącza się w dyskusję między skrajnie indywidualistyczną koncepcją Thomasa Caryle’a czy Maxa Stirnera a kolektywizmem Gustawa Le Bon’a, Karola Marksa i José Ortegi y Gassset’a.
Undoubtedly, a veneration of the saints is essential for the life of the Church – inspiring the faithful to live a righteous life and making them aware of a given opportunities to turn their talents for the life of the Church. One of the most important Pomeranian thinkers of the interwar period, Father Franciszek Sawicki (1877 – 1952), understands holiness as constantly updating process of shaping human personality in the spirit of Christian axiology. Christian personality is the most important driving force behind the shaping and development of history. He considers Christian values as the factors affecting the development of human personality in such a way that they have a considerable impact on the development of human culture and the history of civilization. Thus, his personalistic, Christian vision turns into discussion between the extremely individualistic conception of Thomas Carlyle, Max Stirner and Gustave Le Bon, Karl Marx and José Ortega y Gasset, proponents of collectivism.

Artykuł odnosi się do książki Sebastiana Gałeckiego Etyka chrześcijańska dla postchrześcijańskiej epoki, w której autor proponuje koncepcję takiej etyki, opartej na chrześcijańskim fundamencie. W swoim rdzeniu jest to dzieło metaetyczne, dla którego pierwowzorem i inspiracją były ujęcia etyki Johna Henry’ego Newmana, Alasdaira MacIntyre’a oraz Johna Finnisa. Poszerzając horyzont badawczy książki Gałeckiego, należy zauważyć, że wszelkie systemy etyczne są jakimś wyzwaniem dla współczesnych, nie tylko bowiem etyka, lecz każda nauka pojmowania klasycznie jako theoria ma dla życia praktycznego jedynie moc motywacyjną, a w życiu społecznym oddziałuje, jeśli zostanie przełożona na rzetelną popularyzację i skuteczne jej krzewienie. Przydawka „chrześcijańska” jedynie dookreśla określoną etykę, determinuje ją w określony sposób, lecz jej nie modyfikuje. Tym samym etyka chrześcijańska jest propozycją nie tylko dla konkretnego życia indywidualnego i społecznego, lecz także dla teoretycznej dyskusji etycznej. Współcześnie, w epoce nazwanej postchrześcijańską, w takiej dyskusji istotne znaczenie ma pluralizm argumentacyjny. Ma on swój fundament w tym, że fenomen moralności jest zawsze ujmowany w bogactwie jego aspektów, choć często niektóre z nich są niesłusznie absolutyzowane. 
The article refers to Sebastian Gałecki’s book Etyka chrześcijańska dla postchrześcijańskiej epoki [Christian Ethics for the Post-Christian Age], in which the author proposes the concept of such an ethics, based on a Christian foundation. At its core, it is a metaethical work, for which the prototype and inspiration were the taking of ethics by John Henry Newman, Alasdair  MacIntyre and John Finnis. Broadening the research horizon of Gałecki’s book, it should be noted that all ethical systems are a challenge for contemporaries, because not only ethics, but every science conceived  classically as theoria has only motivational power for practical life, and in social life it has an impact if it is translated into reliable popularization and effective dissemination of it. The “Christian” adjective merely specifies a particular ethic, determines it in a certain way, but does not modify it. Thus, Christian ethics is a proposal not only for concrete individual and social life, but also for theoretical ethical discussion. Nowadays, in the post-Christian era, argumentative pluralism is of great importance in this discussion. It has its foundation in the fact that the phenomenon of morality is always apprehended in the richness of its aspects, although often some of them are unjustly absolutized.

DIDYMUS THE BLIND
Opis:
The aim of this article is to present a review of the late antique sources showing that Didymus the Blind was a master of the Christian Alexandrian school and to examine them in the context of research on the phenomenon of this school. The author analyses three basic sources with information on the place and role of Didymus in the Alexandrian didaskaleion, i.e. Historia Ecclesiastica by Rufinus of Aquileia (XI 7), Historia Ecclesiastica by Sozomen (III 15), and Christianike Historia by Philip of Side. The author polemicises with the interpretation of the key source of Rufinus of Aquileia proposed by R. Layton, with which she contrasts her own interpretation founded on the research current of the socalled Alexandrian school. Referring to the history of research on the Alexandrian didaskaleion, the author considers whether and to what extent the designation of Didymus as scholae ecclesiasticae doctor (contained in the writings of Rufinus of Aquileia) might refer to the fact that Didymus operated his own, comparatively independent exegetical school, which as a result of the character of Didymus' ideas could only be perceived as a continuation of the Alexandrian school led earlier by Clement and Origen.
