Opis:
Thermal barrier ceramics (TBCs) has chiefly been produced in the 7YSZ form with the single thermal barrier. The high content of Y2O3 in the YSZ materials ensures their good phase stability. Nevertheless, investigastions aimed at finding alternative TBC materials are most often directed towards the zirconium oxide ZrO2 modified by various methods. Attempts have been made with a ZrO2 powder stabilized with Y2O3 and doped with La, Gd and Nd oxides. The present study was concerned with the fabrication of a cathodic zirconium oxide based ceramic target using the PVD methods, with the aim of producing nanocrystalline TBC coatings resistant to heat high density (close to the theoretical value), and is homogeneous in both the structural and chemical terms.

Opis:
This work presents studies of the structure and functional properties of coatings deposited onto indexable inserts made of nitride and sialon tool ceramics with the required properties, i.e. high adhesion, niicrohardness. high resistance to abrasive and diffusion wear in working conditions of high-performance cuttings tools. In the present paper the results of the investigations of the structure, texture, mechanical and functional properties of the Ti(C,N), (Ti.Al)N, Ti(C.N)+(Ti,Al)N coatings were presented. The 80% increase in the hardness of the coatings in comparison to the substrate material was reported. Test coatings are characterized by good adhesion to the substrate. The maximum Lc load of (Ti A1)N coat applied to the substrate from the nitride ceramics is equal to 42 N. In the studied coatings compressive stresses were found. The results of mechanical properties investigations, especially tribological ones correlate with the results of exploitation tests carried out during the cutting test.

Opis:
In the work five ceramic compounds based on the (K0.44Na0.52Li0.04)NbO3 (KNLN) material modified with oxides: Cr2O3, ZnO, Sb2O3 or Fe2O3 (in an amount of 0.5 mol.%) were obtained. The KNLN-type composition powder was prepared by solid phase synthesis from a mixture of simple oxides and carbonates, while compacted of the ceramic samples was conducted by free sintering methods. In the work the effect of the used admixture on the electrophysical properties of the KNLN ceramics was presented. The XRD, EDS tests, the SEM measurements of the morphology ceramic samples, dielectric properties and DC electric conductivity were conducted. The research showed that the used admixtures introduced into the base of KNLN-type composition improve the microstructure of the ceramic samples and improve their sinterability. In the case of the dielectric measurements, it was observed a decrease in the maximum dielectric permittivity at the TC for dopred KNLN-type samples. The addition of an admixture of chromium, zinc, antimony or iron in an amount of 0.5 mol.% to the base composition (K0.44Na0.52Li0.04)NbO3 practically does not change the phase transition temperature. The diminution in the density value of doped KNLN ceramics was attributed to the alkali elements volatilization.

Opis:
The aim of presented study was to obtain the PLZT:Yb ceramics. Nanopowders of itterbiuni doped PLZT materials were synthesized by the sol-gel method from high quality metaloorganic precursors, as lead (II) acetate, lanthanum acetate, ytterbium acetate, zirconium (IV) propoxide and titanium (IV) propoxide. Anhydrous acetic acid and n-propyl alcohol were used as solvents, while acetyloacetone was added as stabilizer of hydrolysis reactions. Thermal evolution of the dried gels, before and after calcination, was studied by the simultaneous thermal analysis. The amorphous PLZT:Yb3+ gels were first calcined in the furnace at T = 850°C, and then mixed in the planetary ball mill. Additionally, the mean particle sizes were calculated by means of powder specific surface area measurements, based on the BET physical adsorption isotherm. Such obtained powders were subsequently pressed into pellets, and sintered by the free sintering method at temperature T= 1250°C / 6h. The morphology of fabricated PLZT:Yb:3+ ceramic powders and samples was studied using Scanning Electron Microscopy. Chemical characterization of samples was carried on using the Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy – EDS system. Studies provided detailed data concerning die relationships between doping and preparing conditions on the basic physical and chemical properties of obtained ceramic materials.

The main goal of this paper is to explore the diversity of Gravettian ceramics (30–20/16 thousand years ago), from Central and Eastern Europe. Most of the ceramic fragments were found in the Czech Republic. So far many ceramic analises have been made providing information about the technique of ceramic production in the Upper Paleolithic. Similar analyses have also been conducted in Russia allowing for comparing different types of ceramic production in various parts of Europe. The article discusses the finds ceramics from Czech (Pavlov, Dolní Věstonice) and Russian (Kostenki, Zaraysk) archaeogical sites and draws attention to features such as raw material, manufacturing and firing techniques and probable functions which such artefacts may have played. It is argued that the ability to produce ceramics in Gravettian cultures in Central and Eastern Europe developed at different times and in different ways

Bulk samples consisting of BaCe_{0.85}Y_{0.15}O_{3-δ} (BCY15) and Ce_{0.85}Y_{0.15}O_{2-δ} (YDC15) compounds, mixed together in different ratios, were studied as potential electrolytes in dual protonic ceramic-solid oxide fuel cells and compared with non-composite BCY15 and YDC15. The microstructures of the sintered materials indicate that BCY15 exhibits the largest grains, whereas composites have greater visible porosity than the non-composite samples. From X-ray diffraction studies it follows that BCY15 and YDC15 consist mainly of one phase, whereas the composites are two-phase materials. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy studies at different temperatures show that the composite materials are capable of conduction the order of 10¯³ S/cm at temperatures above 500°C in a hydrogen-containing atmosphere. Furthermore, activation energy values of the conductivity determined for the composites in air atmosphere are between those obtained for BCY15 (E_{a}=0.590±0.017 eV) and YDC15 (E_{a}=1.132±0.008 eV). From this it follows that both phases of the composites influence the electrical conductivity of the materials. In conclusion, BCY15 and the BCY15-YDC15 composites show promise for future use as electrolytes in dual protonic ceramic-solid oxide fuel cells.

The paper presents example tests of the functional quality of selected designs of dental bridges. These were: porcelain bridges on a metal base (cobalt based alloy), porcelain bridges on a zirconia base (zirconia ceramic – Zirkon Zahn), and full zirconia bridges (Zirkon Zahn). For the purpose of the study, durability of bridges in cyclic fatigue testing was adopted as a measure of their quality. The tests were carried out on a Zwick Roell Z010 universal testing machine. They consisted in cyclic loading and unloading of dental bridges mounted on gypsum models at a loading force of F= 400 [N] and a frequency of load of f= 1 [Hz]. Each bridge was subjected to a cycle of 7200 loads. The results show that there are no significant differences in the functional quality of the bridges.

This paper presents matters related to production of ceramic and cast iron composite. The composite was made with the use of a foam structured ceramic insert. The tests included measuring of hardness, impact strength and resistance to abrasive wear of the composite produced. On the basis of obtaining results was stated that the use of foamed ceramic filters provides good conditions of filling a ceramic framework with molten grey or chromium cast iron. The growth of hardness of the ceramic-grey cast iron composite is ca. 60% as compared to the grey cast iron hardness. The growth of hardness of the ceramic-chromium cast iron composite is slight and does not exceed 5 % in comparison to the chromium cast iron. Introduction of the ceramic inserts deteriorates the cast iron impact strength by ca. 20 - 30 %. The use of ceramic inserts increases the resistance to abrasive wear in case of grey cast iron by ca. 13% and in case of the chromium cast iron by ca. 10 %.

Opis:
Although textile craft is a socially complex and economically significant phenomenon, little is known about textile techniques in the Bronze Age of the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea, including Estonia. No textile or cloth remains dated to the Bronze Age, i.e. between 1800 and 500 BC in the Estonian context, have been found so far. Only indirect evidence such as possible textile tools and impressions on pottery can be used in the study of textile-making. The aim of the present study is to review the available evidence regarding Bronze Age pottery with patterns commonly described as made with textiles, and to systematise it. As a result, it is suggested that the evidence based on these impressions is even more limited than thought so far. Few finds clearly indicate the use of textiles. Regular patterns consisting of variously-shaped concavities on the vessels’ walls may have been made also with other items, for example by rolling fir cones over the surface of a freshly-modelled pot.

Opis:
In Islamic Egyptian glazed ceramics there are three ceramic types inspired by Chinese pottery, stoneware and porcelain: sancai pottery, celadon stoneware and Blue and White porcelain. Egyptian imitations of Chinese celadon ware, produced in the 14th and 15th centuries mainly by Cairene potters working at the Fustat workshops, are particularly noteworthy and the Kom el-Dikka site in Alexandria, excavated by the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology University of Warsaw, has yielded a collection of over 300 pieces. The typological analysis was based on 235 distinct fragments of utilitarian wares selected on account of their form, decorative elements, technical quality, possible technological defects and, first and foremost, characteristics that qualify them as imitations of Chinese celadon. Two typological ware groups were distinguished: those inspired by Chinese prototypes and those representing indigenous Egyptian ceramics infused with certain motifs copied from the Chinese celadons.
