    Artykuł recenzyjny zawiera analizę podejścia Paula Roberta Magocsiego do historii i współczesności Rusi Karpackiej w jego pracach na ten temat. Autor rozpatruje sposób opowiadania przez kanadyjskiego historyka o dziejach tego regionu z jednej strony w porównaniu z jego syntezą historii Ukrainy, z drugiej – w odniesieniu do założeń modernizmu i konstruktywizmu w studiach nad narodem i nacjonalizmem. The review article presents an analysis of Paul Robert Magocsi’s approach to the history and present time of Carpathian Rus’ evident in his texts on the subject. The author investigates the ways in which the Canadian historian describes the history of the region in comparison with his synthesis of the history of Ukraine on the one hand, and with premises of modernism and constructivism in his studies on nations and nationalism on the other.

    Rusofilizm był alternatywą dla Rusinów Karpackich, w tym Łemków dla ukraińskiego nacjonalizmu. Zainteresowanie tą ideologią wykorzystała Rosja, dla której tereny zamieszkałe przez Rusinów miały znaczenie geopolityczne. Przychylność tej ludności mogła ułatwić opanowanie Europy Środkowej i zrealizować imperialne zamiary Rosji. Konsekwencje tego są widoczne do dziś i wykorzystywane choćby do destabilizacji sytuacji na Ukrainie.
    Rusophilism was an alternative for Carpathian Rusyns, including Lemkos, to Ukrainian nationalism. Russia used Interest in this ideology, for which the areas inhabited by Rusyns were geopolitically important. Positive attitude of this population could help to seize Central Europe and realize the imperial interests of Russia. e consequences are visible even today and are being used to destabilize the situation in Ukraine.

    Narodowy indyferentyzm to kategoria, która od pewnego czasu coraz wyraźniej pojawia się na kartach historycznych studiów poświęconych rozwojowi nacjonalizmów w Europie Środkowo-Wschodniej XIX i I poł. XX w. W pracach tych omawiane pojęcie pojawia się przy okazji analiz sytuacji różnych społeczności, które przez długi czas wyraźnie odnosiły się w sposób obojętny do proponowanych im narodowych programów i tożsamości. Badacze zajmujący się indyferentyzmem narodowym koncentrują się głównie nad przeszłością grup zamieszkujących pogranicza Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej. Przyglądając się ich badaniom można odnieść wrażenie, że zjawisko to można było zaobserwować jedynie w dobie tworzenia się państw narodowych. W prezentowanym artykule pokazuję, że wspomniana kategoria może być użyteczna także w analizach dotyczących współczesnych studiów nad etnicznością i tożsamością narodową. Przykładem społeczności, w której możemy obserwować zjawiska wpisujące się moim zdaniem w problematykę indyferentyzmu narodowego jest słowiańskojęzyczna społeczność z rumuńskiego powiatu Marmarosz. Jak pokazuję interesująca mnie społeczność, a przynajmniej dostrzegalna jej część, mimo zmieniających się warunków oraz pojawiających się kolejnych i konkurującymi z sobą idei o charakterze narodowym i etnicznym, znajduje przestrzeń do pozostawania ambiwalentnym wobec nich, nawet na początku XXI w. w dobie rozwiniętych państw narodowych.National indifference is a concept that has been making an increasingly stronger presence on the pages of studies addressing the history of nationalisms in Central and Eastern Europe of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. In these works this concept is mentioned when analyzing the status of various communities, which for a long time showed a clearly indifferent attitude to the national programmes and identities proposed to them. Researchers exploring the problems of national indifference focus mainly on the history of groups living in the borderland areas of Central and Eastern Europe. Looking into their studies, one can get the impression that this phenomenon could only be spotted in the times when nation-states were in the process of formation. In the presented article I argue that the aforementioned concept can also be useful when analyzing contemporary studies on ethnicity and national identity. One example of a community in which phenomena fitting into national indifference can be spotted is the Slavic-speaking community of the Maramures region in Romania. As shown in the article, this community, or at least a discernible part of it, despite the changing circumstances and emerging competitive national and ethnic ideas, has found space to remain ambivalent towards them, even at the beginning of the 21st century in an era of well-established nation-states.
