This paper presents a performance of reliquefaction plant analysis in order to assess possible cargo loading rate for Butane (C4H10). The highest cargo loading rate is essential in use of LPG carriers because of economical point of view. Loading and discharging cargo time at ports substantially influences on a financial effect of the ship owner. Because of different cargo grades, which number is continuously increasing, crucial is to know real efficiency of gas plan, before signing some contract with customer. On board these types of ships the highest efficiency of reliquefaction plant is crucial. After short description of fully refrigerated gas carrier, theoretical data of analysed ship, taken from ship documentation is shown. Taking into account this data, expected cargo compressors parameters and cargo loading rate are discussed, explained and assumed. In next step, real ambient Butane loading process carried out on board LPG carrier is described. All essential values and reliquefaction plant readings, taken in loading port are presented. The comparison of theoretical result based on available documentation to practical effects obtained in the port is performed. Analysis, mainly taking into account gas plan, answers if it operated with the highest possible efficiency and met cargo loading parameters expected according to ship manuals. Conclusions are discussed.

In this article, the optimal loading of homogeneous marine cargo is considered. A mathematical formulation in terms of a mixed-integer linear program can be given. Still, the level of complexity turns out to be too high to perform full-scale computations. On the one hand, the reasons for this are the multitude of variables and constraints. On the other hand, feasible solutions to such problems may often be economically unacceptable or simply empty. Therefore, a heuristic is presented, according to which the relaxation of the limiting conditions influencing the solution’s feasibility and its economic profitability was parametrized. Under this heuristic, shifting the deadlines of selected orders is allowed. Also, the assignment of orders to vessels is separated from the allocation of vessels to piers in loading and unloading ports. The solution presented can be easily generalized by adding additional restrictions or features like indirect vessels, founding cost, or differentiation between materials.

The stochastic process of container loading is described in the paper with special emphasis to ship motion when she is lying at a quay. The 3 DOF system was applied to describe rolling, pitching and heaving of a vessel which may cause a significant variations of momentary deck elevation. The realistic range of such variations are assessed for a variety of cargo locations on-board and a phase shift between two independent gantries engaged in cargo operations. The process is modeled with regard to random character of crucial variables affecting ship motion due to cargo loading.

Liquidation of cargo in bulk carrier has been identifying as a major hazard affecting the bulk carrier shipping and has resulted to several loss of lives. This study assesses the liquidation problem in bulk carrier shipping, it also discusses the mechanisms by which cargo liquefaction occurs in bulk carrier and the factors influencing the risks of occurrence, based on a qualitative approach. Based on the findings and survey, the unsafe storage condition, poor compliance with the testing and certification of cargoes, poor loading plan, have been identify as some of the root casual factors influencing the risk of liquidation problem in bulk carrier. This study will contribute to increasing the awareness and understanding of the problem of cargo liquefaction and will facilitate the development of regulations that reflects the realities of this problem and assist in the development of future recommendations for mitigation plans against the liquidation problem in bulk carrier.

This research is devoted to the problem of improving the usage of heavy road trains by increasing their actual loading with cargo. The present paper proves that the extremely forced road train not always fits the permissible loading from its axles and vice versa. This contradiction is reinforced by the fact that flows of general cargoes consist of different transport options packages. They are required to be arranged into a rational scheme of loading vans. There were formulated and showed an example of solving the optimization problem of placing cargo units into five-axle road train. There were used static equations of the mechanical system, which is the tractor plus van plus the general goods. First, the piece goods are considered as reduced to the centre of mass of road train. It was showed the importance to comply with accuracy of the coordinates of the centre of gravity value and its influence on the load of vehicle. The dependence of reducing of permissible loading from the centre of gravity coordinate deviation of the estimated optimal was built. The task of optimization of loading schemes was solved in three stages. In the first stage, there was defined the centre of gravity of cargo. At the second stage, there were taken into account the weight and dimensional parameters of transport packages and made a concentrated mass distribution on the wagon platform. It was found that it is advisable to choose the weight of transport packages for optimal load circuit. Each optimal loading scheme should meet the current transport scheme process of cargo delivery. To this aim, it was formulated and solved the problem of the third stage which variables are the parameters of incoming and outgoing flows such as fronts of vehicles, size of groups of cargo in packets.

In today’s globalized world, one of the requirements of global supply chains is efficient transportation systems. Approximately 80 per cent of world merchandise trade carried by sea and handled by ports worldwide. For this reason, maritime transport has the strategic economic importance. Loading of oil and gas has the biggest share (%30) in commodities carried by sea and 2.9 billion tons oil and gas loaded to ship in 2013. This study is focus on chemical cargo terminals which is a special terminal form where high and international levels of safety and quality elements applied. Unlike conventional bulk cargo and container cargo operations, chemical cargo operations include own priorities, applications, and the evaluation criteria. The aim of this study is to perform a qualitative research to determine the factors affecting the operational efficiency of ship, berth and warehousing operations in chemical cargo terminals.

W artykule zostały przedstawione zagadnienia związane z wyznaczaniem planu rozmieszczenia ładunku na wagonie towarowym 2-osiowym. Wykonano model wagonu i na jego podstawie wyznaczono równania opisujące zależność masy ładunku od położenia jego środka ciężkości – spełniającego wymogi związane z obciążeniem statycznym wagonu. Poprawność modelu i równań zweryfikowano dla wybranego wagonu towarowego, uzyskane wyniki potwierdziły prawidłowość zaproponowanej procedury.
This article presents a procedure for determining load distribution plan of the wagon. It was made model wagon and on the basis determined equations describing the dependence of the weight load on the position of its center of gravity. The correctness of the model and equations were verified for selected wagon, the results confirmed the accuracy of the proposed procedure.

The article presents the results of determining the dynamic load of the load-bearing structure of the tank container placed on a roll-trailer during transportation by railway ferry. For this purpose, a mathematical model was developed, which takes into account the dynamic loading of the tank container during angular displacements of the railway ferry. It is taken into account that the roll trailer is rigidly fixed on the deck, and the tank container and the liquid cargo in the boiler have their own degrees of freedom. The obtained accelerations are taken into account when calculating the stability of the tank container on the roll trailer. Thus the stability of the tank container is provided at lurch angles to 240. The carried-out researches will allow increasing safety of transportations of tank-containers on railway ferries by the sea, and also the efficiency of functioning of combined transportations in the international communication.

The paper characterises a class of problems for packing boxes in the container. It presents the current state of knowledge in this area and distinguishes evolutionary algorithms, as the most promising in the search for quasi-optimal loading conditions. The method proposed in the paper focuses on certain criteria important from a practical point of view, which in a formalised manner have not been included so far in the solving-problems models. Apart from the traditional consideration of the problem of three-dimensional space loading maximisation, the proposed method considers the deviation of the loaded container weight centre from its symmetry planes and the availability of packages during unloading. New elements in the described method are: the applied criteria, penalty function, way of coding the container loading state in the evolutionary algorithm and fast crossover and mutations operators dedicated to the adopted coding. It was observed that the evolution in the developed algorithm occurs properly, that is seeking to minimise the criteria. The article also includes a calculation example showing the effect of the method with the discussion of the results indicating the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed solution. The performance of the algorithm has been considered in the context of time necessary to obtain the acceptable solution and quality of the obtained solution. It was found that the algorithm in its current form is a strong base for its further improvement.
