The article focuses on the professional development and a sense of career satisfaction among the seniors whose activity on the labour market ended about a decade or several decades ago. Indicating their motives for development and factors inhibiting or facilitating professional development, the subjects stressed the change which characterizes the contemporary labour market. Their motivators and professional experiences are completely different from the motivators and experiences of people who are professionally active today. They indicate the priorities which determined their development and how these priorities are now outdated on the contemporary labour market.

Opis:
This paper proposes a novel approach that integrates the capability of empirical validation of structural equation modelling (SEM) and the prediction ability of Bayesian networks (BN). The Hybrid SEM–BN approach was used as a decision support framework to examine the interplay between salient organisational constructs and their ability to influence engineers’ career satisfaction in the Australian Public Service (APS). The results emphasise that the ambidextrous culture for innovation was the most important factor that needed to be implemented in their organisation. Managerial implications are recommended for senior managers on how they can implement innovation culture to increase workplace innovation, which could, in turn, help reduce the turnover rate of engineers employed in the APS.

Cel ten zostanie zrealizowany poprzez zaprezentowanie wyników badań ankietowych dotyczących sieci kontaktów zawodowych i satysfakcji z kariery zawodowej pracowników przeprowadzonych w miejskich i gminnych ośrodkach kultury.
The influence of work-related networks on employees’ career development has raised interest of researchers for a long time. Due to the increasing importance of intangible resources, as well as changes in employment relationships and employees’ career models in the public sector the impact of employees’ work-related networks on their career satisfaction has become a particularly topical issue. The paper tries to answer the following question: are there any relationships between work-related networks of municipal cultural centers’ employees and their career satisfaction and if so, what are they. This aim will be realized by presenting the results of empirical research concerning employees’ work-related networks and career satisfaction carried out in municipal cultural centers.

The present study focuses the Fried et al. (2007) conceptual framework which examines the impact of job characteristics on employees’ satisfaction and how career stage and career advancement moderates these effects. The sample for the study consists of 250 faculty members teaching in different universities in China. Results revealed that current career stage does not act as a moderator between job characteristics and job satisfaction, but career advancement acts as a moderator between job characteristics and job satisfaction which somewhat contradicts the findings of the original model of Fried et al. (2007).

This article is an attempt to determine the modern meaning of career success. The perception of career success has undergone changes in recent years, with subjective indicators such as job satisfaction and achievement of one's own professional goals growing in importance. The present article reviews the relevant literature and presents the results of the author's own study on the meaning of career success conducted among students of economics. The results indicate that career success is defined subjectively in the modern world, and is no longer confined to the objective indicators commonly applied in the literature. Thus organizations may find traditional incentive tools to be increasingly ineffective.

Opis:
Objectives The purpose of the study was to investigate the relation between system values during medical education and styles of success in the medical career. Material and Methods The participants were first examined when they applied to the medical school. Questionnaires were given to these students each academic year. Medical doctors who had participated in the first phase of the study completed a questionnaire 4 years after their graduation, too. The baseline questionnaire measured the system values. The follow-up questionnaire included measures of quality of life, work stress and burnout, satisfaction with medicine as a career and professional competency. Results The identified 3 groups of students representing 3 types of careers had been different regarding their preferred terminal values and instrumental values. Out of 3 groups, 2 presented a high risk of burnout. What is more the life goals (terminal values) are relatively stable, but preferable modes of behavior (instrumental values) are likely to change. The most important differences between students who may suffer from burnout later as doctors and those who are at a lower risk are e.g., family security, freedom, happiness, mature love, self-respect, social recognition and wisdom. Conclusions The Rokeach Value Survey may be applied to identify specific tendencies in the development of medical career. The obtained results may be used by the medical school admission officers as well as resident selection committees in order to identify candidates who may be at risk of professional difficulties. Authors can identify during medical education which student will be at risk of professional burnout after studies. Thus there could be a selection of interventions directed toward differentiated groups of students, e.g.: supplying them with proper coping vs. guiding them, to increase life satisfaction and productivity. Opis:
Background Nurses constitute a crucial professional group within the healthcare system. Job satisfaction and opportunities for professional development directly impact the quality of medical services provided and help prevent burnout. The study aimed to assess the preferred career model, the level of job satisfaction, and determine the type of work-related behavior presented by Polish nurses. Material and Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 795 nurses after the COVID-19 pandemic. Three standardized scales were used: My Career questionnaire to access the preferred career model, the Job Satisfaction Scale, and Work‑Related Behavior and Experience Patterns (Arbeitsbesorgenes Verhaltens und Erlebenmuster – AVEM) questionnaire assessing types of work-related behavior. Descriptive statistics, Spearman’s correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression were used for analysis of data. Results The results concerning the relationship between the types of work-related behavior, job satisfaction, and the preferred career model revealed that type G (healthy) was significantly and positively correlated (p < 0.05, r > 0) with the Challenge subscale of the career model (r = 0.095, p = 0.007) and job satisfaction (r = 0.136, p < 0.001). The higher the score on the Challenge subscale and greater job satisfaction, the more pronounced type G personality. The multiple linear regression models explained only 2.5 to 5% of the variability of studied questionnaire outcomes but indicated that significant, independent predictors for the My Career questionnaire subscales and AVEM raw scales for each type were additional qualifications, level of education, work experience, and place of work. Significant predictors of the job satisfaction scale were employment in private healthcare facilities and a master’s degree. Conclusions Nurses experience job satisfaction, but the workload, demanding daily tasks, and the sense of responsibility can lead them to feel fatigued and burnt out. The preferred career model involves Security and Stability, as well as Service and Commitment to other domains. Only a small percentage of the variability in the results of the analyzed dependent variables was explained by the explanatory variables included in the model.

Opis:
This article investigates the subjective life satisfaction of Russian immigrant physicians in Finland. It focuses on how life satisfaction is subjectively experienced and interpreted post migration in a bid to identify the resources which influence it in both work and family domains. The advantage of life satisfaction is taking it as a unifying cross-disciplinary conceptual framework and as a multidimensional analytical approach, including macro-societal, meso-relational, and micro-personal levels. We use the concept of the migratory career to analyse work and family life on migration journeys. These life evaluations are analysed using a sociological conception of subjective life satisfaction and a psychological conception of wellbeing as guiding principles in theory and analysis. Based on 26 semi-structured qualitative interviews, the study finds that an interplay between societal-structural and personal-relational resources makes the interviewees satisfied with their work and family lives. Societal-structural resources included the work environment, income, life security and stability, while personal-relational resources included social support, social trust, and family relationships. Beyond the classical income and job security, we find our participants’ experienced and interpreted life satisfaction is essentially associated with outcomes of family-friendly and supportive work conditions. Moreover, social and personal security and family stability are important for their quality of life in a characteristic Nordic social environment.
