To determine the environmental impact of Central Mindanao University, a carbon emissions inventory was conducted. Data from carbon emission sources, such as fuel use, agricultural production, electricity consumption, food purchases, and travel were gathered from various offices of the university. Consumption data were then processed and converted using carbon emission factors derived from previous literature and studies. Results revealed that the total annual carbon emissions of CMU based on the determined sources is 2,271.26 tCO2e. The primary carbon emission source is agricultural production - which comprises 61% of the total carbon emissions computed. The least source of carbon emission is food purchase - which is 0.3% of the total carbon emissions.

The aim of this study is to test the possible non-linear effect of environmental policy stringency on carbon emissions and thus make policy recommendations for emission reduction. For this purpose data for the period 1995–2015 for selected emerging countries were used. According to the findings obtained from fixed-effects panel threshold regressions environmental policy stringency has no significant effect on the relationship between gross domestic product per capita and carbon dioxide emissions. However, it has statistically significant effect if the share of the service sector and the foreign direct investment are taken as regime-dependent variables. Accordingly, in the high policy stringency regime an increase in the share of the service sector and the foreign direct investment reduce emission levels. In the case of using market-based environmental regulations the threshold effect faced by foreign direct investment is much more pronounced. In order to reduce carbon emissions it is recommended to increase environmental policy stringency, especially in market-based tools.

Aim:  In this paper we demonstrate an outline strategy for Indonesia to move its electrical generation from fossil fuels to renewable sources in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions whilst avoiding excessive costs. The modelling here is based on assumed present fossil fuel generating plants. Design / Research methods:  We have modelled a representative electrical generation system based on burning coal, oil and gas, and by replacing retiring stations with photovoltaic cells and wind turbines we have considered the cost and carbon dioxide implications over a 30 year period. Additionally the modelling is extended to increasing the Indonesian installed electrical capacity. Conclusions / findings:  The results show that Indonesia could meet its carbon dioxide emission reduction targets in an economic way by a phased strategy of introducing renewable energy sources. These results are preliminary and will be refined in a future article where we will include the detail of actual existing power stations, with their capacity and anticipated end of life date. Originality / values of the article: There has been, and continues to be, a general resistance to the adoption of renewable energy. This paper shows  the economic benefit that accompanies carbon dioxide reduction thus presents a new aspect to the consideration of carbon reduction,  Implications of the research: Indonesia faces difficulties in providing electricity whilst meeting its climate change obligations. This research points to a viable economic strategy which may not only meet those obligations, but actually increase electrical provision across the country. Key words:  Sustainable development, climate change, carbon emissions, renewable energy   JEL: C51,L94,Q01,Q42   Doi:

Abstract: Poor supply of electricity to different settlements over the years in Nigeria has forced building occupants to shift to dependence on generators. This study thus determined outdoor and indoor carbon monoxide levels of generators used in both residential and commercial buildings and assessed its impact on the users and the environment. The study was carried out in Ibadan Metropolis, Nigeria, which was divided into core, transition and suburban zone respectively. Five (5) residential and commercial buildings respectively were purposively selected in each of the zones of the study area. The HT- 1000 digital LCD carbon monoxide meter was used to take measurements of the emissions of carbon monoxide with conformity to NESREA AND OSHA standards. The outdoor emission levels of the carbon monoxide before or during the use of generators were taken at 0, 2 and 4 m respectively from the external walls of the buildings sampled and the corresponding indoor measurements were taken internally at 1.2-1.5m above floor area. The data collected were analysed with the use of statistical methods such as t-test, trend analysis and Kolmogorov smirnov test. The results showed that outdoor and indoor measurements of carbon monoxide emissions levels were highest in buildings in the core zone either before or during the use of generating sets. Reduced carbon monoxide levels during use of generators were obtained at distance limits beyond 2 m from external walls of buildings across zones of the study area. In view of the measurements taken, being above limits set by statutory bodies, during use of generators, and its attendant effects on the environment and building occupants, it was recommended that its users should be enforced to position them in enclosures located away from external walls of buildings and government should license only sales of generating sets with emission control mechanisms.

Opis:
This article provides a cause-and-effect analysis of the impact of carbon emissions on climate change and on the sustainable development of European countries. Despite the consolidated efforts of the world community, the global amount of greenhouse gas emissions is not decreasing, leading to irreversible climate change. The objective of this paper is to explore Europe’s progress towards climate neutrality in the context of ensuring sustainable development and achieving the goals of the European Green Deal. The article aims to establish an econometric relationship between the amount of carbon emissions and the energy intensity of GDP based on statistical data from European countries, and using the example of Ukraine during a full-scale invasion to demonstrate factors that influence greenhouse-gas- emissions growth despite GDP. A significant aspect of this study is an analysis of data from 2012–2022, which indicates that Europe has reduced CO2 emissions and is successfully moving towards climate neutrality. Key efforts of EU countries in preventing climate change and transitioning to renewable energy sources are reflected in the context of the Green Deal. Based on econometric calculations, the direct relationship between the amount of carbon emissions and energy intensity of GDP in European countries was confirmed with a probability of 0.95. The obtained interdependence allows one to predict the amount of CO2 emissions based on known values of energy intensity of GDP during stable economic development. Special attention was paid to Ukraine and the increase in CO2 emissions due to the war. The authors concluded that the war disrupted the relationship between GDP and CO2 emissions, leading to a 23% increase in emissions in 2022. Overcoming the climate crisis and ensuring sustainable development requires a global decarbonisation strategy. However, effective climate policy is impossible without achieving peace.

Opis:
Research background: To achieve the targets for carbon peak and air quality improvement, local governments should propose environmental targets and develop realization paths that are tailored to their unique local conditions. They then promote low-carbon development through the implementation of multiple measures. Purpose of the article: As the government performance appraisal system im-proves, the question arises as to whether governments take the initiative to com-bine environmental policies with government target constraints to reduce carbon emissions. Methods: The announcement of environmental target constraints by local governments in government work reports is considered a quasi-natural experiment. This study examines the effect of government environmental target constraints (GETC) on carbon emissions (CEs) using differences-in-differences (DID), propensity score matching-DID (PSM-DID), and spatial-DID (SDID) with data from 241 Chinese cities from 2003 to 2019. Findings & value added: The results demonstrate that GETC can effectively reduce local CEs, with the inhibitory effect being most effective in the first two years after setting environmental targets, but diminishing in the third year. GETC can reduce local CEs through three paths: reducing energy consumption, promoting industrial structure optimization, and encouraging green technology innovation. Spatial spillover effects show that GETC reduces local CEs while exacerbating CEs in neighboring cities, indicating a beggar-thy-neighbor effect in conventional environmental regulation policy. This effect is observed mainly in the geographic matrix and the economic-geographic matrix, but not in the economic matrix. According to heterogeneity analysis, GETC in the eastern and central cities can significantly reduce CEs. The inhibitory effect of GETC on local CEs is stronger in cities where secretaries and mayors have longer tenures and higher levels of education. The paper's theoretical value lies in exploring the reduction of CEs through the combination of government self-restraint and environmental policies, providing a new solution for local governments to achieve CEs reduction. Furthermore, it offers practical insights into the improvement of the Chinese government assessment system.

Opis:
The carbon emissions are essential for climate change and 26% of the world's carbon emissions are related to transport. But focusing only on fewer carbon emissions might be biased at times. In order to keep a balance between economic growth and carbon emissions reduction, this paper evaluated the performance of carbon control by considering the input factors and output factors together, which is more comprehensive and reliable. Firstly, this paper has calculated the transport carbon emissions reduction efficiency (TCERE) based on the model of super SBM with undesirable outputs. The input factors include capital stock, labor force and fossil energy consumption. And the output factors include gross domestic product and carbon dioxide emissions. Then the influencing factors of TCERE were analyzed using econometric models. The economic growth, transport structure, technology level and population density were posited as influencing factors. This paper creatively proposed the per capita nighttime lights brightness as a new indicator for economic growth. An empirical study was conducted in East China from 2013 to 2017, and this study has found that the relationship between TCERE and economic growth shows an U-shape. Besides, transport structure and technology level both show a positive impact on TCERE. The implications of our findings are that: (a) The TCERE declines slower in East China, giving us reason to believe that the improvement of TCERE is predictable; (b) When economic growth exceeds the turning point, economic growth is conducive to the improvement of TCERE. We could develop the economy boldly and confidently; (c) Increased investment in railway and waterway transportation infrastructure projects is needed to strengthen the structure of the railway and waterway transportation systems. Furthermore, the general public and businesses should be encouraged to prefer rail or river transportation; (d) Investment in scientific and technological innovation should be enhanced in order to produce more efficient energy-use methods.

Most academics and policy makers agree upon irreversible phenomena affecting planet Earth’s climate – we have finally faced a climate disruption. As triggered by humans, environmental degradation ultimately threatens not only the security but even the survival of individuals, communities, states and perhaps even the international system as a whole. This paper addresses differences with regards to risk assessment of climate disruption in Europe and in China. Its departure point is that the divergence between European and Chinese approaches is based on structural and institutional distinctions. Specifically, it tries to assess those distinctions (importance of sovereignty and non-interference) with regards to methods (assessment of vulnerability) and principles (transparency and inclusiveness) of risk assessment. Initial analysis leads to a tentative conclusion, which confirms the importance of political culture in national responses to security threats (be it traditional or non-traditional). In this respect EU-China strategic partnership is suggested as one of the possibly effective platforms for future cooperation.

Empirical relationships between carbon dioxide emission, imports, exports, and population have been investigated. An empirical model with carbon dioxide emissions, structure and scale of import and exports, populations was built Using ridge regression analysis and observed data from 1985 to 2006 in China, we examined the relationship between each part of carbon dioxide emission and corresponding coefficients, including GIV (gross imports value), GXV (gross exports value), and P (populations). The results have shown that the increasing trend in TCOE (total carbon dioxide emissions) was determined by the exports, while its standard level is determined by population. Increasing the imports may reduce TCOE. Considering working to expand economy, the best ways for China to reduce TCOE are to introduce advanced technology and take actions to guarantee strict execution of cut-emission policy. Although the increasing imports also can reduce TCOE, it is not reasonable for the global cut-emission policy. To control population is not applicable as the immense population base, so government's publicity for low-carbon live is a necessary and feasible way to reduce carbon dioxide emission.

Due to the ongoing climate change, the issues currently in focus are the reduction of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and sustainable construction. The search for ecological alternatives to traditional building structures that will reduce a building’s carbon footprint seems to be a desirable direction of modern construction development. At present, the first projects of office buildings that use cross-laminated timber as the main construction material are being completed, which can have a positive impact not only on the environment but also on the users of the building.
