Opis:
A manuscript stored in the Jagiellonian Library (no. 1564 from 1404) holds a fragment of a Polish calendar, previously unpublished, from the late 14th century or the early 15th century. Written on the last, extra parchment page, it is a fragment of a much larger manuscript. The first 13 days of January have survived (1 to 13 January) and 13 days of February (4 to 19 February). The fragment contains 17 names, five of which are not included in the Słownik staropolskich nazw osobowych (Dictionary of Old Polish Proper Nouns, W. Taszycki, ed., vol. 1-7, Wrocław 1965-1987), namely Arkadyj, Emilijan, Iginij, Sotera, Wedast. The word january (January, in Polish styczeń) has not been recognised by dictionaries, either. There is no equivalent of the calendar in question in Poland or other European countries. It is impossible to indicate the diocese or a milieu where it could have been used. The document includes a few names of saints properly attributed to the days of their cult and names attributed to days not used in other known calendars. This leads to a conclusion that the calendar was either used in an unknown milieu or we are dealing with a simple error of the copyist. The latter theory best explains the peculiarity of this fragment of the calendar. This is confirmed by marking 4 nd 5 February as Ide rather than Nones, and 12 and 13 February as calends rather than Ides. The calendar was probably erroneously planned by the copyist who confused the days and affiliation of saints. Perhaps these errors were spotted early, the copying process was never completed and the parchment was recycled. Most probably, the intention behind the calendar (1564) was a large parchment “poster”, reminiscent of a scroll, used to inform the congregation about the holidays in the year. The calendar is unique because of the names of saints included in it and the fact that it is written in Polish.

Opis:
The issue of the liturgical calendar of the Orthodox Church is one of the topics currently being discussed. Using the julian or neojulian liturgical calendar raises in faithful not only dilemmas or doubts, but also confusion, as shown by discussions on some social networking sites. The author of this text wants to bring closer reader to the problems of this issue and clarify the liturgical and calendar duality. This paper also develops such topics as the history of the christian calendar, reckoning of years, creation of calendars: julian, gregorian and neojulian, as well as problems arising from using two calendars within one local Church. This work shows that the use of one kind or another calendar is not a violation of dogma, but may lead to a breach of a rule, established at the time of the Ecumenical Councils. You should be aware that the julian calendar was not strictly a calendar set up for the liturgical aims, but it was adapted for formulating the liturgical order. Experience of the liturgical life shows that, even though type of calendar is not a dogma, entering neojulian calendar permanently divided some local Orthodox communities. Introduction of neojulian calendar was not necessary, and the events at the beginning of the twentieth century is warning to refrain from taking radical action to reform liturgical life. Certainly this is a difficult issue that requires common action under the providence of Grace of the Holy Spirit.

Opis:
The article presents the history and analyses the form of Almanac des Honnêtes Gens [Almanac of Good People] by Sylvain Maréchal (1750–1803), published a year before the Revolution. This work is pioneering in relation to the revolutionary calendar of 1793 — it proposes a very similar idea of breaking with the Christian calendar and introducing a new system of values and for measuring time in human history. In his Almanac, Sylvain Maréchal replaces the names of saints and patrons of the Catholic Church with those of philosophers, artists, writers, and politicians who, because of their lives and works, deserve eternal memory of their posterity. The idea of “new saints”, symbols of human wisdom and the power of the spirit, anticipates the dechristianisation movement and the idea of a “new time” that was soon to be promoted by the Revolution.

In the study, we pay attention to the Orthodox Church calendar of 1928, which was published in Yu Lajo’s printing house, based in the village of Ladomirovo in Eastern Slovakia, by Orthodox missionaries who had emigrated from Russia. We consider the calendar as a genre of the religious sphere of communication. The object of the research is georthonyms as a peripheral lexical-semantic field of the onomastic space of the Russian language used in ‘Orthodox calendars’ in the last century. They make one of the constituent parts of the Christian sacred onomasticon, a reflection of the religious linguistic picture of the world in the early 20th century. The appeal to onomastics as a material for ethnolinguistic and linguoculturological research seems quite logical, since “...in onomastics the most significant and stable quanta of ethnocultural information are encoded” (Berezovich 2001: 34). The article uses onomastic research methods such as: descriptive, comparative, synchronous and diachronous.

The advancement of humanity has culminated in artificial intelligence and it cannot do without the measurement of time and the existence of different calendars, such as the one used today, which has notable religious influences. Starting from a reflection on the relationship among artificial intelligence, the fundamental right of religious freedom, and the various types of calendars, the study focuses on highlighting the religious influences which are inside the calendar used throughout the world, their months and days. This calendar is based on the Roman calendar, which was reformed by Julius Caesar, and corrected centuries later, by the reform carried out by Pope Gregory XIII. This is followed by a brief exposition of a purely religious calendar such as the Muslim one, as well as the frustrated attempts to establish secular calendars during the French and Russian revolutions, in the 18th and 20th centuries, respectively

This article presents problems related to creating liturgical calendar for Mars colonists, assumed to land on Mars (accordingly to Mars One Project) in year 2024. It consist of five parts: why to colonize space; brief history of Earth calendar; deep correlation of liturgical calendar (e.g. fests) with astronomical events; last two parts present idea of civil Martian calendar and list difficulties related to extraterrestrial liturgical calendar.

In the face of the majestic conclusion of the flood narrative in Gen 9,1-17, the short text in Gen 8,20-22 seems sometimes to be neglected in biblical literature or considered as only a side issue. In our article, we focus on the promise of God concerning the organization of the cosmos after the flood cataclysm, trying to show the extent and theological depth of the biblical author's vision in Gen 8,22. In his view, God's promise is not limited to a purely temporal re-organization of the cosmos after the cataclysm. Rather, it  evokes the principles of the primordial organization of the cosmos established in the original creation act.

Also, presented are the rules of inscribing saints in the General Roman Calendar and the rules of inscribing saints and the beatified in the liturgical calendar, and the making of saints patrons of provinces, counties, cities, larger areas, streets, associations, schools, universities and religious community groups. Detailed information regarding the calendar of a particular country and the introduction of new saints into the calendar can be found in the current documents of the Latin Church. These documents emphasize that all celebrations concerning a particular Church to be included in the calendar must be subordinated to universal celebrations, as prescribed by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. It belongs to this Congregation to evaluate the conditions presented in a petition, to assign a liturgical rank and present the petition to the Holy Father. While saints can also be appointed – with the approval of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments – as patrons of provinces, counties, cities, larger areas, streets, associations, schools, universities, and families of religious. The blessed can be made patrons of these places only pursuant to a special indult issued by the Holy See.

Opis:
The Polish version of the article was published in “Roczniki Humanistyczne,” vol. 59 (2011), issue 2. The provisions of the Union of Brest guaranteed the use of the Julian calendar in the Uniate Church. In the second half of the 18th century, as a result of the socio-political changes and the so-called reduction in holidays in the Latin Church the question of a reformed calendar was brought up among the hierarchs of the Uniate Church. Its elaboration and corresponding debates showed that the calendar was clearly considered to be an element of identification for all the faithful and an important factor creating a sense of separateness and identity in the multidenominational and multinational Polish Republic. The issue of reforming the calendar used by the Uniate Church was raised at the Great Sejm, but a new list of feasts was compiled by Uniate bishops during the congress of 17th September 1790 held in Warsaw. The hierarchy of the Uniate Church was also obliged to take a stance on the changes in the calendar introduced by the invading countries. The actions taken by Uniate hierarchs in the 18th century reflect an attempt to combine economic reasons with religious ones as well as social influences dictated by the ideas of the Enlightenment.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to picture the characteristics and functions of traditional Chinese calendars and almanacs. In traditional Chinese society, great attention was paid to everything being done at the “right time”. Primarily, this only concerned matters strictly related to field works and rituals, but over time, attempts to harmonize human activities with the course of nature led to the point that almost every sphere of Chinese life depended on the positive or negative influence of the prevailing time. The ability to “manage time” properly was what made the ruler the Son of Heaven. This resulted in the creation of an extremely complicated system of time notation, which involved many different, mutually complementary methods based on natural cycles and historical periods. Calendars and almanacs played the role of a “temporal map” used to guide people in a world of complex relations between time and human life.

Takim przykładem jest m.in. datacja lokacji miasta Leca (Giżycka) w maju 1612 r.
The issue of changing the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar in Ducal Prussia has not been discussed separately so far. The problem seems simple, but it has caused quite some discussion in the literature to date. In his seminal work on the auxiliary sciences of history, Józef Szymanski provides information about changing the calendar, but with the wrong date, namely 1610. The publisher of Max Toeppen’s work, The History of Masuria, gives the date of 1700, when the Gregorian calendar was actually introduced, although in German Protestant countries. At the same time, Toeppen himself was not interested in this problem and he gave the dates from the documents, without changing them to the Gregorian calendar. This was what most German researchers subsequently did, and following them Polish researchers. However, this means that the dates between 1582 and 1612 are generally given according to the Julian calendar and many of them need to be verified. One such example is dating the location of the town of Lec (Giżycko) to May 1612.
