Due to the recent discussion in the Review of Political Economy there was observed the reignited debate on the nature of the socialist system and economic calculation challenge [Denis, 2015; Bylund, Manish, 2017]. In the paper I will not discuss directly the theses of both sides. I will attempt to show their polemic results of the ambiguity of the initial calculation argument [Mises, 1990]. It appears that the argument against the possibility of socialism could be called “the contestability argument” rather than “the calculation argument”. The goal of this paper is to reformulate the initial argument about the economic rationality of socialist projects.

In this paper, two-dimensional direct current (DC) dielectrophoresis is presented. First electric field distribution in particle and surrounding fluid is calculated and next stresses acting from both sides suspension-particle boundary are evaluated. These values are fundamental for force calculation in two-dimensional dielectrophoresis and in simulation of the velocity distribution in interdigitated electrodes.

Paper is considering the purpose and the process of development of last stage blade for intermediate pressure module of 13K215 steam turbine. In the last 20–30 years most of the steam turbine manufacturers were focused on improving such a turbine mainly by upgrading low pressure module. In a result of such a modernization technology were changed from impulse to reaction. The best results of upgrading were given by developing low pressure last stage blade. With some uncertainty and based on state of art knowledge, it can be stand that improving of this part of steam turbine is close to the end. These above indicators show an element on which future research should be focused on – in the next step it should be intermediate pressure module. In the primary design the height of intermediate pressure last stage blade was 500 mm but because of change of technology this value was decreased to 400 mm. When to focus on reaction technology, the height of the last stage blade is related to output power and efficiency. Considered here is the checking the possibility of implementing blades, in a reaction technology, higher than 400 mm and potentially highest. Article shows a whole chosen methodology of topic described above. It leads through the reasons of research, limitations of 13K215 steam turbine, creation of three-dimensional models, fluid flow calculations, mechanical integrity calculations and proposed solutions of design.

Research background: In determining the prices in road transport, carriers usually use the calculations based on a so-called routes utilisation coefficient, which allows the carrier to also take the possibility of the return rides without load into account. Currently, it is usually used as a constant from the interval from zero to one. Purpose of the article: Considering a different offer of return transport from individual European Union (EU) countries, it can be assumed that the routes utilisation coefficient should have different values because there is a varying level of non-zero probability that the vehicle will return without a load. This study therefore proposes a new approach to determining the value of this coefficient based on transport direction. The study also aims to identify clusters of EU countries, for which the common value of the coefficient should be set. Methods: The Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test was used to verify the assumption of the differences among the means of transport offers. Cluster analysis was used to identify the aforementioned groups of countries. This analysis is based on real data on transport offers to Slovakia from 18 different EU countries. Findings & value added: The results of the analysis can also be used in other EU countries because if significant differences in transport offers to Slovakia exist in individual countries, there is a reasonable assumption that this conclusion will also be valid in other countries. The analysis demonstrated that it is more appropriate to use the routes utilisation coefficient with various values, dependent on the transport direction. For the transport companies, implementation of the obtained results into practice is beneficial to increase their competitiveness through the more precise setting of transport prices, but also to the optimisation of the transport price itself with regard to the expected costs.

Artykuł przedstawia wyniki obliczeń hydraulicznych sieci wodociągowej w Łężycy k. Zielonej Góry przeprowadzonych przy pomocy programu Epanet. Umożliwiły one ocenę parametrów sieci pracującej w warunkach zróżnicowanego zużycia wody – odpowiadającego zarówno wartościom dla stanu istniejącego, jak i dla wariantów symulacyjnych. Uzyskane rezultaty były podstawą wniosków istotnych w prowadzeniu procesu eksploatacji.
The results of water network in Łężyca in Zielona Góra commune carried out with EPANET are presented in this paper. They make possible to evaluate parameters of both current water consumption and simulation calculation – for conditions of water demand designed in future. Conclusions should be important for exploitators of water network.

Introduction of the semi-elastic barrier into fuel tanks rise environmental protection level in case of ship collision or grounding. Last law regulations requires change of localisation of fuel tanks in ship structure in a such way to increasing distance between fuel and surounding water. Application of semielastic barrier into fuel tank make possible to localise fuel tanks in double bottomspace. The presented paper provides the alternative options for determining the condition of belt gear based on the testing and monitoring. In order to carry out experimental measurements, a newly developed device for testing, monitoring and diagnostics of belt drives was designed, as well as the possibility of determination of limit states by extreme loads. The designed measuring stand allows to determine the point of destruction of the belt for an extreme load. The main objective of the experimental measurement was to determine the slip of the wedge-shaped belt. The slip was evaluated by the coefficient of belt creeping and the specific belt slip by means of the measuring stand. The measurements on the proposed device can be made when the input speed from the electric motor and the transmitted torque of the belt gear are constant while the tensioning force of the belt drive is changing or the measurements can be made when the tensioning force and input speed of the belt drive are constant and the torsional moment changes. The monitoring of specified parameters for determining the belt gear slip is made by means of sensors located at predetermined locations from which data is processed by a PC. In the paper, the analytical calculation is processed, from which the values are compared with the values measured on the proposed device.

Calculations of water distribution systems are most often performed many times because the correct solution from a technical point of view is rarely obtained after the first calculation run; hence, we can talk about a multistage calculation process. In connection with this, the calculation process of computer water distribution systems can be additionally supplemented with elements of process diagnostics. Diagnostic activities should be carried out using numerical algorithms, which can be a complement to classical hydraulic calculations of water distribution systems. The condition for reliable functioning of the diagnostic system formulated in this way is the efficient detection of computational irregularities. For this purpose, diagnostic problems were defined for the water pipes and the connection nodes in the water distribution system. The proposed diagnostic tests analyze the calculation results and indicate whether the solution is correct or, if irregularities are detected, suggest a way to solve the problem. Diagnostic tests are carried out using artificial neural networks.

Standard No. EN 15831:2004 provides 2 methods of calculating insulation: parallel and serial. The parallel method is similar to the global one defined in Standard No. ISO 9920:2007. Standards No. EN 342:2004, EN 14058:2004 and EN 13537:2002 refer to the methods defined in Standard No. EN ISO 15831:2004 for testing cold protective clothing or equipment. However, it is necessary to consider several issues, e.g., referring to measuring human subjects, when using the serial method. With one zone, there is no serial–parallel issue as the results are the same, while more zones increase the difference in insulation value between the methods. If insulation is evenly distributed, differences between the serial and parallel method are relatively small and proportional. However, with more insulation layers overlapping in heavy cold protective ensembles, the serial method produces higher insulation values than the parallel one and human studies. Therefore, the parallel method is recommended for standard testing.

The advancement of humanity has culminated in artificial intelligence and it cannot do without the measurement of time and the existence of different calendars, such as the one used today, which has notable religious influences. Starting from a reflection on the relationship among artificial intelligence, the fundamental right of religious freedom, and the various types of calendars, the study focuses on highlighting the religious influences which are inside the calendar used throughout the world, their months and days. This calendar is based on the Roman calendar, which was reformed by Julius Caesar, and corrected centuries later, by the reform carried out by Pope Gregory XIII. This is followed by a brief exposition of a purely religious calendar such as the Muslim one, as well as the frustrated attempts to establish secular calendars during the French and Russian revolutions, in the 18th and 20th centuries, respectively

Heat exchangers belong to the group of devices, whose proper operation is essential for the proper conduct of industrial processes. The growing influence of numerical methods in the design stage of exchanger, allows to optimize their design in terms of efficiency and meet the specified thermal parameters. A relatively new way to use numerical simulation is the study of unsteady heat transfer that characterized their work during failure. The article presents results of numerical analysis of the operation of a hypothetical heat exchanger with emergency leak of one of the coils. The effects of stream loss in the pipe and change of flow dynamics of entire system were taken into consideration. The importance of location of leak on the behavior of heat exchanger was also taken into account. The simulation was performed using the commercial software Autodesk Simulation CFD.

The method has been developed for recognition of changes, caused by vegetation, using the Earth remote sensing data obtained at different points of time. The method includes automatic calculation of brightness groups in segments of changes for each range in the multizonal image. Also, the problem of the spatial multispectral decomposition is resolved with regard to the areas of changes caused by vegetation, with the automatic selection of the object's components homogeneous in terms of their reflection properties.
