Opis:
The main aim of the article is to determine which neologisms were created in the German language at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic in the field of education. The choice to focus on education and school concepts is based on the fact that it is considered one of the fundamental areas of people’s lives. Since schooling is compulsory in Germany, this topic affects every citizen. The structure of the article is as follows: first, the pandemic-related changes in the field of education are briefly discussed. Next, the term neologism is explained in more detail, as well as the functions and the types of neologisms that can be distinguished. The core of the article is the presentation and discussion of the results of the empirical analysis. 81 neologisms from the field of education created during the coronavirus pandemic were subjected to the analysis. They refer to various branches of the education system and name, among other things, periods of time, but also persons and school concepts, which is why they were assigned to eight semantic categories: Change of the education system, evaluation of learning outcomes, character of learning and teaching, description of a particular period, description of individuals, feelings, support and final evaluation. Within the groups, antonyms and synonyms could be found. The article also explains the reasons for the creation of the neologisms.

Opis:
The COVID-19 pandemic has had far-reaching effects, not only on public health but also on the global economy, social interactions, and daily life. It has highlighted the importance of global cooperation and the need for more investment in public health and emergency preparedness. The pandemic also exposed weaknesses in many countries’ educational management systems; it has forced many higher education institutions to adopt new teaching and learning methods to minimize the risk of transmission. This resulted in the need for comparative studies to evaluate the effectiveness of different pedagogical responses and to find a common ground on the most effective practices and responses that would help higher education institutions better prepare for similar challenges in the future. The present study provides a comparative study and outcomes through a record of the pedagogical responses by higher education authorities in two completely different contexts (Algeria and the UK). The authors of the paper beforehand adopted a desktop analysis approach through valid and first-hand reliable sources like government and university official releases. This research methodology would involve a systematic and rigorous approach to data collection and analysis to ensure the reliability and validity of the research findings. Through coding and thematic analysis of the collected data, the researchers concluded that the efficiency of the responses and decisions adopted by higher education institutions varied depending on a range of factors such as the institution's resources, infrastructure, and student population. However, the pandemic highlighted the need for agile and serious responses to ensure the safety and well-being of students and the campus community.

Opis:
Objectives of the research: The aim of this project was to investigate the quality of education in Polish preschools during the COVID-19 pandemic in different social environments. Research methods: The study uses a pedagogical approach and the ECERS-E scale, used to both define and assess the quality of preschool institutions. The research also involved interviews with teachers. A short description of the context of the issue: An important goal of the research is to identify problem areas and areas that constitute resources or strengths of preschool institutions. Research findings: A detailed data analysis indicated differences in the quality of education and care offered to children. The preschools under study obtained the highest results for the mathematics subscale and the lowest for the diversity subscale. Importantly, in nearly 25% of them, the quality of science and environment classes was lower than the minimum. A comparative analysis of the locations of preschools revealed that rural institutions achieved lower results than urban institutions, both in the overall quality of everyday life and for all subscales. Despite the social changes taking place in Poland, research shows that the diversification of the educational environment may significantly determine school competences and achievements. Conclusions and recommendations: The added value of the project is showing the potential of the ECERS scale and proving that it can be used in the Polish context. This creates an opportunity to conduct comparative research on an international scale.

Opis:
The transition to smart mining has significantly increased the requirements for training modern mining engineers, this necessitating digitalization of this process. Based on scientific research, virtual and augmented reality technology are the most effective and safe. The article presents methods for using virtual and augmented reality technology in training mining engineers. The methods are successfully implemented in laboratories of Kryvyi Rih National University (Ukraine) and have been proven effective during distance learning in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the russian military aggression against Ukraine. Nevertheless, further scientific research is needed to introduce modern digital technologies into mining engineers’ training at universities in order to form a competitive and competent specialist.

Opis:
Objectives of the research: The purpose of the study was to learn about parents’ experiences of participating in their children’s remote education during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The question posed in this article is about the circumstances under which parents took over tasks previously perceived as a teacher’s job. Research methods: The participatory, qualitative case study utilized data from the open-ended questions of an electronic survey to which 104 parents (from a public elementary school in a metropolitan area) responded, as well as data from the school’s electronic register. The qualitative analysis employed strategies of constructivist grounded theory. Brief description of the context of the problem: While national and international studies have shown that parents played a critical role in the challenging and stressful home-based education of their children during the COVID-19 pandemic, no research has explained how parents became this vital link of education. The aim of this article is to fill this gap. Research findings: The study revealed two interrelated contextual factors that led to parents’ activation in their children’s “schooling from home”: 1) technical/administrative, related to having inadequate tools for distance education and 2) pedagogical/didactic, related to the prevailing concepts of teaching and learning being anchored in the behavioral-transmission paradigm. Conclusions and/or recommendations: The results apply primarily to the school under study and represent an intrinsic case study. However, it is reasonable to assume that the events, phenomena, and processes identified in the study may serve to explain phenomena in other schools that have organized distance education similarly. The cautious recommendation, aiming to safeguard family resources (thereby protecting equal opportunities for all children to learn) in times of crisis, is to transform the pedagogical underpinnings that shape today’s educational practices from behaviorist to constructivist. However, this requires further research.

Opis:
This study aims to investigate the education and motivation of students in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Republic of Albania. In March 2020, as in other countries, education in Albania was faced with the great dilemma of how teaching would take place in conditions of isolation from the pandemic. We emphasize in advance that Albanian families, in general, use electronic devices such as smartphones, laptops, tablets, or desktops. There is a cable internet network for every family. We also point out that there were families with a lack of computer equipment and internet access. The main findings of the research on the development of the learning process in the context of the pandemic, result: Initial problems of distrust over the development of online teaching, the main challenges in the education sector related to insufficient digital skills for teachers and students to use learning platforms, difficulties in preparing teaching materials for the transmission of subject content at a distance, aspects of motivation and engagement of students in online learning.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to present the representations of emotions (happiness, anger, sadness, fear, worry, stuckness, compassion, dumbing, stagnation, humiliation, sense of guilt, hope, hate, sense of privilege solidarity, boredom, banality), neighbourly solidarity in the texts of the opinion-forming portals Polityka (PL) and The Spectator (UK), referring to school closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and their media representations in the public (the perspective of a teacher, school headmaster, member of the government, expert) and private domain (the perspective of a student and parent), in the processual approach (a catalogue of events), in the context of technological changes (distant learning), as well as socio-cultural (human relationships, domestic violence) and economic (social benefits) contexts. Our hypothesis is that, in line with the concept of the culture of fear by Frank Furedi, the way the internet content is created and construed is supposed to evoke the emotion of fear. We performed a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the content of 78 articles published in Polityka and 12 in The Spectator, between 1 March 2020 and 30 July 2020, found with the use of a search engine. We observed at least three levels of information sources on emotions in the studied groups: the main character of the article, the one who experiences emotions (perspective of the sender); the author/editor of the article, who does evaluation and interpretation (perspective of the gate-keeper) and the reader (perspective of the addressee). On these levels, emotions can result from their literal identification; from an interpretation of a given situation, from the situational context (contextual emotions) and from the non-verbal clues and physical reactions of the organism. The hypothesis was partially confirmed. Despite the fact the school closures, as represented by the media, generates mostly the emotion of fear, the emotion prevalent in the discourse on the consequences of school closures and on the evaluation of remote education is sadness (Polityka) and compassion (The Spectator). However, the dominant emotion, both in the public-private and public domain, is the one of sadness.
Celem artykułu było przedstawienie wyników badań dotyczących sposobów prezentacji emocji (radość, złość, smutek, strach, troska, współczucie, otępienie, stagnacja, upokorzenie, poczucie winy, nadzieja, nienawiść, solidarność sąsiedzka, nuda, banalność) w materiałach tekstowych portalu opiniotwórczego Polityka (PL) i The Spectator (UK), odnoszących się do zamknięcia szkół z powodu pandemii COVID-19 – i ich mediatyzacji w życiu publicznym (perspektywa nauczyciela, dyrektora szkoły, przedstawiciela rządu, eksperta), i prywatnym (perspektywa ucznia i rodzica), w ujęciu procesualnym (katalog wydarzeń), w kontekście przeobrażeń technologicznych (zdalne nauczanie), społeczno-kulturowych (relacje międzyludzkie, przemoc domowa) oraz ekonomicznych (zasiłek opiekuńczy). Przyjęto hipotezę, iż zgodnie z koncepcją kultury strachu Franka Furediego sposób formułowania i konstruowania materiałów internetowych ma wzbudzać przede wszystkim emocję strachu.

In early 2020, the “new coronavirus”, SARS-CoV-2, started one of the most significant health crises in the modern world. China was the initial source of the pandemic and the first country to deal with its broad consequences which, apart from medical concerns, included severe social and economic costs. The farreaching adverse outcomes of the pandemic meant a need for intensive educational campaigns, explaining the epidemiological aspects related to COVID-19. This paper studies Chinese materials educating children on health, and ways to protect against infection and further virus spread. It concentrates on cultural values, emotions, and means of expressions present in the analyzed resources. Among significant findings, notions of Confucian values, the Taoist vision of harmony, patriotic content, and nationalist ressentiment are identified. The study also recognizes unique forms of expression represented by metaphors, symbols, and specific local audiovisual themes.

Aim. The aim of the contribution is to evaluate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Slovak economy. We analyzed the pertinent data relating to Slovakia's economy, tourism, and education infrastructures, and also the measures introduced during the pandemic which affected them. Methods. The paper is mainly based on descriptive, analytical and statistical methods, and based on global statistics data, studies, and research conducted in this field. Results. In 2020, the Slovak economy decreased by 9.3%. The reason was not only domestic measures against the spread of the coronavirus, but also a slump in foreign demand. The growth of the Slovak economy had already slowed during 2019, even before the onset of the COVID-19 disease. Extensive travel restrictions, especially at the international level, fundamentally affected the total number of visitors, in particular during the period March to August 2021. Almost 1.6 million visitors stayed in hotels, boarding houses, and other accommodation facilities in Slovakia during this period of the pandemic, which represented a decrease of almost 54% when compared to the pre-pandemic year of 2019.     Conclusion. The significant deterioration of the economy was the result of a large number of significant restrictive measures taken to stop the spread of the COVID-19 disease. The factor of the COVID-19 pandemic influenced the future of tourism and education, bringing changes to their direction and economic benefits. This pandemic has significantly affected education in Slovakia and worldwide, and we are following its transformation.

Objectives of the research: This article presents a diagnosis of the learned helplessness experienced by secondary-school students learning English remotely during the 2021 lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The objectives are to (1) show the level of learned helplessness of secondary-school students learning English, (2) investigate the relationship between foreign language learning strategies and the learned helplessness of secondary-school students, and (3) determine the relationship between the level of learned helplessness and the use of private tutoring by secondary-school students. Research methods: The study was conducted via a written diagnostic survey. It also employed the School Helplessness Scale by B. Ciżkowicz (2009) and the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) by R. Oxford (1990). A short description of the context of the issue: The aim of the text is to answer the following research questions: What is the level of learned helplessness of secondary-school students? Is there a relationship between foreign language learning strategies and the learned helplessness of secondary-school students? Does the use of private tutoring differentiate the level of learned helplessness of secondary-school students? Research findings: The results demonstrate a significant negative correlation between learned helplessness and the use of memory, cognitive, metacognitive, affective, and social strategies. The average score of learned helplessness was 2.54, which indicates that the respondents usually felt the symptoms of it.  An analysis of the results for the three deficits revealed that the motivational deficit made the greatest contribution to learned helplessness. The students who had hired a private tutor in English had a lower level of learned helplessness and cognitive deficit. Conclusions and/or recommendations: The research findings lead to several recommendations for educational practice in the context of foreign language learning: using new, effective pedagogical approaches to keep learners motivated—including elements of strategy training or social and emotional learning (SEL)—arranging remedial teaching, and promoting teachers’ professional development.

„luki edukacyjnej” w zakresie pojęć matematycznych i umiejętności językowych uczniów, spadek motywacji do nauki na lekcjach zdalnych, obniżenie dobrostanu psychicznego uczniów, wzrost niepożądanych symptomów psychologicznych wśród dzieci w postaci podwyższonego poziomu lęku, stresu.
The aim of this review article is to describe and explain the effects of remote education in relation to school performance in language and mathematics education and the well-being of pupils in primary school grades 1 through 3 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis was based on research findings from 40 empirical articles and international reports. On the basis of the review of research reports, it was found that the effect of remote education in many countries of the world was a slowing down of the process of acquiring knowledge and skills, as well as the creation of a so-called “learning gap” in terms of students' mathematical concepts and language skills, a decrease in motivation to learn in remote lessons, a decrease in students' psychological well-being, and an increase in psychological symptoms among children in the form of increased levels of anxiety and stress. Disrupted learning particularly affected children with lower school achievement from culturally and educationally neglected backgrounds. A trend was observed that learning delays caused by remote education were greater in countries where school closures were maintained for longer.

Opis:
Comfort–Stretch–Panic model), autorstwa Karla Rohnke. Funkcjonowanie ucznia w każdej z tych trzech stref to syntetyczny obraz unikatowych, dopełniających się doświadczeń wywołanych wymogiem edukacji zdalnej w okresie pandemii.
This article presents a fragment of results of a research – its subject being Diagnosing needs and expectations of students and teachers in primary schools in Szczecin days before returning to school – conducted in May 2021 among 1125 students. Comfort-Stretch-Panic model, created by Karl Rohnke, has been used as a theoretical framework for said research. Students’ functioning in each and every one of the model’s aspects provides a synthetic depiction of unique, complementary experiences caused by remote education, imposed by the pandemic. The article focuses on a fragment of results and conclusions regarding potential hidden in such experiences in given time.

Opis:
The study aimed to analyse changes in school belonging in higher education students during online instruction and to verify its cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships with academic adjustment in the first and higher years of study. The research sample consisted of 169 higher education students (90.5% women, M = 21.71; SD = 2.63) in the first measurement (end of the winter term), and 77 respondents (96% women, M = 21.38; SD = 2.03) in the second measurement (end of the summer term). Self-report methods were used. Results showed a decline in school belonging among first-year students. School belonging significantly predicted academic adjustment, and the relationship with internal motivation persisted even four months later. The findings support the key role and need for facilitating school belonging in higher education students in the online environment.
