The aim of the article is to show a practical aspect of cultural policy led by spa communities. The Iwonicz-Zdrój Community served as the example, however it was shown against a background ofsome other spa communities, what helped to notice countrywide trends in its activities. The text shows various faces of cultural policy. Both financial aspects and concrete activities in this field were considered. Moreover, a cultural role of such places as pump rooms was presented. Also, the article demonstrate cultural cooperation with other countries and NGOs. This analysis makes it possible to notice some specific features of cultural policy led in spas.

Despite the two concepts, community risk and community well-bein seem to constitute the two sides of the same coin - community (especially, local community) as a place to live - they rarely coincide with each other in empirical analyses. The main thesis of tkis paper is that analyzing them jointly seems to be fruitful, especially in a policy-oriented evaluation research conducted in the context of community development. Community well-being is, by its very nature, an example of the truly interdisciplinary notion. When defined in terms of happiness and subjecive well-being it becomes the focus of predominantly psychometric approach. Sociologist prevail in attempts to interpret it in terms of quality of life and of social indicators. And economists and statisticians are trying to measure nation-wide material and non-material aspects of well-being with intention to incorporate them into a appropriately re-formulated, or extended, system of nacional account. As a part of these conceptualizations (moving "beyond GDP") some approaches are being developed to include the value produced under non-market activities, including the non-profit organizations or third sector (either through utilizing Satelite Accounts methodology or through the labor market research. However, no much attention is given in such frameworks to well-being conceived as an attribute of a local community. The objective of this paper is two-fold. First is to demonstrate the compexity involved in the relationships in which the concept of well-being remains with local risk and local capital, at the analytical level. Second, how this complex pattern of interaction can contribute conceptually and methodologically to the advancement of the process of integrating social science research in the area of the pro-well-being community development. To create and use the new types of university-community relations in this context seems to be the most promising approach for social scientists, and is recommended here as a way worthwhile to follow.

Abstract The article aims to introduce the community school as one of the possible models for the predicted development of schooling in today's knowledge society. Contrasting with its applications in the UK and US, the paper showcases current developments in the community school concept in the Czech Republic, reflecting on the position of the community school in contemporary specialist discourse. There is an overview of select research into community schools, the types of community schools in the UK, US and the Czech Republic (where the concept has only been applied since the 1990s in its present form), complemented by an analysis of the community school concept as a whole with particular attention paid to its internal coherence and diversity. Community school standards are outlined to provide additional background. The methodology of the article is grounded in the theoretical analysis of specialist literature, relevant projects, and other sources.

The paper focuses on the quite original and not much discussed subject of the relationship between volunteerism and community sense, whose support in Czech society has great potential for the development and functioning of a humane-oriented civil society. First, the paper depicts both concepts and capacity of volunteering utilization in the development of the community sense. Then it emphasizes two promising ways of volunteering support that take into account the educational and developmental context. These are the development of prosocial values and positive shaping of youth happiness. As the presented findings indicate, the individual happiness impacts on both the individual’s prosocial orientation and willingness to volunteer that is enhanced also by prosocial values.

Opis:
One of the dramatic effects of global warming is the retreat of glaciers. This phenomenon has intensified in the last two decades. Postglacial areas are quickly colonised by various groups of organisms. Auto- and heterotrophic microorganisms play an especially vital role in these processes. They thrive in shallow glacial lagoons which often form in front of retreating glaciers. These reservoirs are characterised by high dynamics of physicochemical parameters, including: salinity, temperature and concentrations of organic compounds and nutrients. The conducted microbiological studies have revealed rich structural and functional diversity of bacteria occurring in the ecosystem of Ecology Lagoon situated on King George Island. Bacteria found on the surface of algae and stones in the shore zone of the lagoon showed particularly intense metabolic activity. A molecular analysis has indicated that unique taxonomic groups of bacteria occur in the ecosystem of Ecology Lagoon.

The sense of community is recognised as a key category favouring the development of local communities, conducive to the growth of social activity, supporting the activation of internal resources of the group in the field of solving social problems. The main goal of the article is to show the possibility of using the assumptions of the theory of community-relatedness in pedagogical research. The author indicates how much and to what extent the sense of community is complementing the area of research of contemporary local environments. The analysis of research on the sense of community conducted by American and European researchers determines possible areas and directions of research with particular emphasis on social participation in the local space.

The article describes the activities and specificity of so-called CSA groups (Community Supported Agriculture) as one of the forms of the observable trend related to the formation of different types of informal, mutual social initiatives. Certainly such activities can be categorized as sustainable consumption. The article presents the results of research conducted on CSA groups operating in Poland. This study aims is to contribute to the discussion by combining data from basic research with a comparative analysis. The research shows that the various CSA-projects differ a lot from each other and that there is a variety of approaches within the CSA-movement.
W artykule opisano działania i specyfikę grup RWS (rolnictwo wspierane przez społeczność) jako jednej z form obserwowanego trendu związanego z tworzeniem różnego rodzaju nieformalnych, wzajemnych inicjatyw społecznych. Takie działania można zaliczyć do zrównoważonej konsumpcji. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań przeprowadzonych na grupach RWS działających w Polsce. Wyniki badania powinny przyczynić się do dyskusji. Dane z badań podstawowych połączono z analizą porównawczą. Badania pokazują, że projekty RWS różnią się znacznie i że istnieje wiele podejść w ramach tego ruchu.

The article is devoted to the discussion of selected results of the nationwide community police officers research conducted by the authors in January 2017. This research is a part of the ongoing project of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration „Community police officer closer to us”. The analysis was based on the answers provided by 5,400 respondents from all over the country to the following questions: Should the role of community police officers be to carry out social prevention tasks? Are community police officers satisfied with their job as community police officers? How do they assess their interpersonal communication skills? Do they think they have prestige in the local community? Do they participate in meetings with the local community and how do they characterize the police mission? The results will be processed in 17 reports from the national community police officers research. The application of conclusions from the results of qualitative and quantitative research conducted all over Poland in 17 garrisons will have a significant impact on the dialogue between the authorities and community police officers, determining the expectations of first contact officers, their problems, strengths and weaknesses. The research carried out will increase the effectiveness of the “Community police officer closer to us” programme, one of the basic programmes of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration implemented in order to build trust between the authorities and a citizen. The research also resulted in two monographs on the functioning of the district division in Poland. The authors’research focuses on the partnership of community police officers services with the local community for internal security, taking into account the role of community police officers social and educational activities, and on drawing a professional portrait of the community police officer who is closer to people, solves problems of local communities and carries out activities in the social and educational area.

Authors try to point out the risks of the Roma community, based on the specifics of their culture, thought, and values of a lifestyle with that they alive. The reception of Benedict Anderson’s ideas was very fruitful in many disciplines, and his work provided key concepts that can now throw a clarifying light in some blurry matters. The expression “imagined community” has known a remarkable proliferation, a situation that led to both the formation of a research direction and to the perpetuation of a cliché. In this respect, my article pointed out some suggestive characteristics of virtual communities, explaining why the imagined community is a valuable subject for the theorists of new media. The impossibility to know in person all the members of a big community is just one factor that determines its imagined face. Moreover, the set of values and inner presuppositions that guide the members are important bricks in the construction of community. In my opinion, the virtual community is imagined as a multi-layered experience (technological, conversational, relational etc.). The dynamic of a virtual community contains the tension amongst these layers and the degree of its imagined side depends on multiple factors. In order to illustrate these aspects, I gave a brief example by analysing a Romanian virtual community, using the triad common language – temporality – high centers. In spite of its limitations, the perspectives offered by this concept are still useful for understanding the nature of online communities. Thus, the imagined community is a valuable set of beliefs and practices that underlie and bolster the effective meaning and functioning of the virtual communities.
