Opis:
Frequency regulation is in a first line of preference for an interconnected power system. Presence of nonlinearities in the generation systems further raises the complexity level of the problem. In this scenario, this article presents a robust Automatic Generation Control (AGC) mechanism to maintain the frequency and tie-line power of the power system to their nominal values. A Coefficient Diagram Method (CDM) based AGC mechanism including an AC/DC tie-line and Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) has been developed and the performance in handling the frequency regulation has been analyzed. The nonlinearities such as Governor Dead-Band (GDB) and Generation Rate Constraint (GRC) are included in the system to analyze the proposed AGC scheme in a more realistic approach. The AC/DC tie-line and UPFC which are included in the proposed AGC scheme provides an immense strength to handle the active power variation as-well-as frequency regulation. To develop a more effective AGC scheme, the parameters of an AC/DC tie-line and UPFC are optimized by successful implementation of the Fruit Fly Optimization Algorithm (FOA). The justification of the proposed AGC scheme has been carried out through a step by step verification such as justifying the CDM based controller, effectiveness of the proposed scheme and robustness of the system against parameters variation. The CDM based controller has been compared with the conventional controllers to elevate the effectiveness and the supremacy of the proposed AGC scheme has been examined by comparing with previously published work. The design and simulation of the work has been carried out by the MATLAB/Simulink® tool box.

Opis:
In this paper, a new method based on the Continuum Damage Mechanics (CDM) and the Genetic Algorithm and Radial Basis Function neural network method (GARBF) is proposed to predict fatigue life of LY12CZ notched plate. Firstly, the multiaxial fatigue damage evolution equation is derived, and the fatigue life of the notched specimen is predicted based on the CDM method. Secondly, the RBF method is introduced to modify the relative deviation between the theoretical result and actual life. According to the drawbacks of the RBF method, the GA is adopted to optimize network parameters to effectively improve the model quality and reduce the training error. Then, the verification test indicates that the combined method of CDM and GARBF is able to reduce the average relative error of the results of fatigue life prediction to about 7%, which shows that the new method to predict the fatigue life is more reliable. At last, compared with the predicted results of the traditional Back Propagation (BP) neural network, the GARBF model proposed in this paper has a better optimization effect and the result is more stable. This research provides a feasible way to predict the fatigue lives of the notched plate based on the CDM and GARBF method.

Opis:
. This study proposes the use of multi-criteria decision models (MCDM) for transportation mode-route choice decisions. This method is beneficial when trips' microdata are unavailable. Route-mode choice decisions were investigated for three public transportation modes (buses, railways, and airlines) in the post-China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) investment in Pakistan Railways (PR) for a link between Peshawar and Karachi. TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) was used for the mode choice decisions and a hybrid model of AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Approach) – TOPSIS was used for the route choice decision ML-1 link of PR. This study concludes that rails were the best mode of transportation in post-CPEC investment. Furthermore, route 3, linking Karachi to Peshawar via Lodhran, Multan, and Miniawali, is the best route connection among the four considered routes.

Here we present evidence of an extra spatial dimension and that our 3D Universe is embedded as a lightspeed expanding hyperspherical hypersurface. Support for this hypothesis comes from (a) SDSS BOSS dataset analysis showing the seeding of Galaxies on the largest scale by spherical acoustic oscillations, (b) the discovery of an Hyperspherical Force, a constraint force that exists only because of the lightspeed hyperspherical expansion. That solves the Spiral Galaxy Rotation Conundrum, (c) the parameterless predictions of all type 1a Supernovae (SN1a) distances from their redshifts z. Lightspeed hyperspherical expansion permits simple short-distance compliance with the Hubble Law.

Aim: Despite the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to reduce climate change vulnerability and inequality particularly in the Global South, it is probable that the SDGs and NDCs might not achieve their objectives. The aim of this article is to identify how countries in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) can address their climate change governance and cross-sector coordination challenges in order to reduce climate change vulnerability and augment SDG 7 (universal energy access) implementation.   Design / Research methods: A qualitative content analysis was undertaken using research articles, project reports, a case study and policy briefs exploring the nexus of climate change governance, SDG 7 implementation and SDG 13 implementation in the context of SSA and Malawi.   Conclusions / findings: The study suggests that climate change governance and attaining SDG 7 in the Global South might be improved by harmonising NDC activities so that NDC activities can be aggregated and monitored from a regional perspective similar to the case of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Programmes of Activities (PoAs).   Originality / value of the article: The paper is of value to global policy makers as it shows that increasing climate change ambitions and ratcheting-up in the context of SSA should include increasing the deployment of renewable energy technologies as well as initiating new international institutional arrangements for climate change governance through South-South Climate Change Cooperation modalities. Keywords: Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), climate finance, renewable energy, South-South Climate Change Cooperation, Sustainable Development, Malawi. JEL: G38, O13, O55, Q01, Q28, Q54, Q56.

Opis:
Here we present evidence that the analysis of the Supernova Project failed to consider the simplest model which is capable of predicting all type 1a Supernovae (SN1a) distances from their redshifts z. This model is based upon the Hypergeometrical Universe Theory (HU), where the Universe is a hyperspherical hypersurface under lightspeed radial expansion. This permits simple short-distance compliance with the Hubble Law. The mapping of the Hubble Law with the hyperspherical short-distance expansion provides a Current 4D radius of 13.58 Billion Light Years if we consider H0 = 72 km/s/Mpc. Notice that the Universe under the Hypergeometrical Universe Theory is an embedded hypersurface within a 4D Spatial Manifold, with a lightspeed expanding radius. Because of that it is possible to speak of Current (in absolute time) Universe. Einstein’s ideas about Time and Relativity are refuted by HU and astronomical observations.

Opis:
Maritime subsea operations have increased significantly in size and complexity during the last decades as a result of the advances in the offshore oil industry. Despite the fact that subsea operations can involve hundreds of personnel, working together with complex technology, limited research can be found regarding the operations in the available literature. This study aims to analyze a routine subsea operation using the Distributed Situation Awareness (DSA) framework and understand how the operators on board maintain their DSA in routine operations through a case study. In order to understand how the operation unfold in complex sociotechnical systems and how situational awareness (SA) is distributed across agents and artefacts, the theoretical framework of DSA can be useful as the focus is on the interactions at a systemic level. To achieve the research objectives, a combination of qualitative methods was utilized to illustrate DSA on board a subsea vessel. Initially an observation was conducted during a live subsea survey operation to capture the interaction between personnel and instruments. Furthermore, all observed personnel were subjected to retrospective interviews to elicit further knowledge of the operation. Finally, the data was analyzed according to the propositional network approach and Hierarchical Task Analysis (HTA). The result of this study portrays the SA of a subsea survey operation as propositional networks for the main phases identified in the HTA. The main findings of the study show a significantly difference in DSA among the Bridge personnel and personnel located in the Online Control Room (ONCR). Furthermore, it was found that the dynamic of the system allowed personnel to have different level of DSA without jeopardizing the overall operation. Finally, the summary of the findings provides a basic understanding of how a routine subsea survey operation unfolds.

Opis:
The seawater desalination process is emerging as a substantial source of fresh water by removing salt and minerals from an infinite supply of seawater effectively. The first stage in a desalination plant is the use of chlorine gas to sterilize the microorganisms in the water. During excess chlorine leakage, an alert is activated, employees are relocated away from the site for a specific period, and dampers will be manually opened. This will cause unsafe working conditions and a waste of time. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a coefficient diagram method based proportional integral derivative (CDM-PID) control strategy for the tune the control parameter with the distributed control system (DCS) interfaced conical tank. During operation, a 10% NaOH solution is injected into the top of the scrubber column using an ethylene-ter-polymer (ETA) designed distributor to ensure that the solution is evenly distributed across the packing surface. The three control strategies are compared to tune the control parameter with the DCS interfaced conical tank. Instead of the sodium hydroxide tank in the chlorine scrubber system, this work presents the pilot plant of DCS interfaced with two conical tank interacting systems with different liquid level heights. Here, the proposed CDM-PID controller is compared with the standard Ziegler-Nichols (ZN)-ultimate cycling method, and the internal model control (IMC) method. The results demonstrated that the proposed CDM-PID approach is superior to existing approaches in terms of low oscillation, settling period, and high robustness.
Proces odsalania wody morskiej staje się znaczącym źródłem świeżej wody dzięki skutecznemu usuwaniu soli i minerałów z nieskończonych zasobów wody morskiej. Pierwszym etapem w zakładzie odsalania jest użycie chloru gazowego do sterylizacji mikroorganizmów w wodzie. Podczas nadmiernego wycieku chloru zostanie aktywowany alarm, pracownicy zostaną na pewien czas przeniesieni z terenu zakładu, a klapy zostaną ręcznie otwarte. Spowoduje to niebezpieczne warunki pracy i stratę czasu.
