Opis:
Demand for thin-walled structures has been increasing for many years. Cold-formed, thin-walled channel beams are the subject of presented research. The local elastic buckling and limit load of these beams subjected to pure bending are investigated. This study includes numerical investigation called the Finite Strip Method (FSM). The presented results give a deep insight into behaviour of such beams and may be used to validate analytical models. The number of works devoted to the theory of thin-walled structures has been steadily growing in recent years. It means that is an increasing interest in practical methods of manufacturing cold-formed thin-walled beams with complicated cross-sections, including also beams with web stiffeners. The ratio of transverse dimensions of beam to its wall-thickness is high, therefore, thin-walled beams are prone to local buckling that may interact with other buckling modes. The stability constraints should be always considered when using cold-formed thin-walled beams.

Opis:
Starting from a quantum statistical reasoning, it is demonstrated that entropy properties of silicon/silicon dioxide interface electron traps may have a strong influence on measured distributions of interface states, depending on measurement method used. For methods, where the Fermi-level is used as a probe to define an energy position, the scale is based on free energy. On the other hand, methods based on thermal activation of electrons give the distribution on an enthalpy scale. It is shown that measured interface state distributions are influenced by the distribution of entropy, and that common features of measured energy distributions may be influenced by entropy variations. These results are used to interpret experimental data on the energy distribution of electron capture cross sections with an exponential increase followed by a more or less constant value as the energy distance of the traps from the conduction band edge increases. Such a relation is shown to be consistent with a situation where the emission and capture processes of electrons obey the Meyer-Neldel rule.

Opis:
There are no standard dimensions or shapes for cold-formed sections (CFS), making it difficult for a designer to choose the optimal section dimensions in order to obtain the most cost-effective section. A great number of researchers have utilized various optimization strategies in order to obtain the optimal section dimensions. Multi-objective optimization of CFS C-channel beams using a non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II was performed using a Microsoft Excel macro to determine the optimal cross-section dimensions. The beam was optimized according to its flexural capacity and cross-sectional area. The flexural capacity was computed utilizing the effective width method (EWM) in accordance with the Egyptian code. The constraints were selected so that the optimal dimensions derived from optimization would be production and construction-friendly. A Pareto optimal solution was obtained for 91 sections. The Pareto curve demonstrates that the solution possesses both diversity and convergence in the objective space. The solution demonstrates that there is no optimal solution between 1 and 1.5 millimeters in thickness. The solutions were validated by conducting a comprehensive parametric analysis of the change in section dimensions and the corresponding local buckling capacity. In addition, performing a single-objective optimization based on section flexural capacity at various thicknesses The parametric analysis and single optimization indicate that increasing the dimensions of the elements, excluding the lip depth, will increase the section’s carrying capacity. However, this increase will depend on the coil’s wall thickness. The increase is more rapid in thicker coils than in thinner ones.
