    Opis:
    The quality of surface water in watercourses in the region of Lublin agglomeration was studied in 2012–2014. Biological and chemical indicators of the study for various sampling sites were detected and the resulting values of the indicators were processed statistically. Rivers characterized by small size and the flow and modification of the riverbed. The resulting low values of macrophyte river index and infusorial index pointed to a poor quality of surface waters. Chemical indicators of the quality of surface waters reached low values, only BOD and phosphates reached high values. The river is located outside the city and it is characterized by moderate potential ecological (III quality class), and the river within Lublin is insufficiently potential ecological (IV quality class). Statistical analysis showed high variability index values between the studied positions.

    Opis:
    River valleys are one of the most significant features of the urban landscape, for they contain both natural landscape elements as well as those of the architectural or built environment. River valleys aesthetically improve the scenery of the urban landscape, while their benefit towards society can be assessed in terms of both their intrinsic ecological value as well as their instrumental touristic and recreational worth. Early development of the town of Lublin centered on the River Bystrzyca, where it featured prominently as the central and integral landscape element. This has ceased to be the case, however, and as a result the town of Lublin has lost its direct historical connection to the river. It is now as if the town has grown and developed with its 'back' to the river, losing the connectedness that the two once shared. Local planners seem indifferent to the significance and natural value of Lublin's river valley, since they have not come up with a plan to develop it according to historical precedent. There are still some significant views of the river in Lublin: from local bridges, from urban districts on the high river banks and a partial view from Zygmuntowski Alley, though it is safe to say that the presence of the River Bystrzyca in Lublin's cultural landscape is not emphasized nearly enough. The purpose of this article is to assess the natural and cultural landscape value of the River Bystrzyca and guide future development with best management practices, emphasizing cultural landscape preservation and sustainable recreation.

    Opis:
    Many cites in the world are located by rivers, the reason it is that river valleys have extremely favorable conditions for the development of settlement and economic activities. At the same time, they are among of the most valuable and also sensitive types of natural habitats. The purpose of the study is to highlight the importance of issues related to aspects of fl owing water in urbanized areas as illustrated by city of Lublin and the Bystrzyca River. The input material for this study was a review of analytical materials: thematic literature, scientifi c studies, planning documents, maps, databases and the photographic documentation prepared during site visits. On those basis analysis of natural environment was made as well as analysis of legal, landscape, functional and spatial conditions. The summary of the work are indications for multifunctional development for the Bystrzyca Valley that take into consideration natural conditions.
    Doliny rzeczne posiadają wyjątkowo korzystne warunki dla rozwoju osadnictwa. Równocześnie są to jedne z najbardziej wartościowych i wrażliwych na antropopresję typów środowiska, w związku z tym zagospodarowanie tych terenów rodzi liczne konfl ikty. W pracy, na przykładzie doliny Bystrzycy w Lublinie, przeanalizowano zagadnienia związane z rzeką przepływającą przez miasto. Wykorzystując liczne materiały, między innymi kartografi czne i dokumentację fotografi czną, przeprowadzono analizy: stanu środowiska przyrodniczego, zagrożenia powodziowego oraz funkcjonalno-przestrzenne, w tym zmiany w czasie. Podsumowaniem jest ocena możliwości dla wielofunkcyjnego zagospodarowania z uwzględnieniem uwarunkowań przyrodniczych.
