The exponents of the category of definiteness / indefiniteness and a certain type of expressive expressions in Bulgarian and PolishThe paper focuses on the functions of the pronoun exponents of the semantic category of definiteness / indefiniteness in Bulgarian examples of the following type: Свършихме я. Тънко я преда. Свърши се вашата, etc. Their reference to sentences such as Свършихме я тази работа. allows interpreting the function of the phrase as thematic. This type of sentences was confronted with examples such as Тя му я изтърси една… И ти ми ги говориш едни… The features of intonation and the semantic features of the double object phrase indicate its rhematic nature. Specific formal traits of such sentences, including the usage of the exponents of the category of definiteness / indefiniteness, are related with their expressive markedness.

Opis:
Multi-volume Polish-Bulgarian Confrontative GrammarPolish-Bulgarian Confrontative Grammar (GKBP) is the first and so far the only expanded attempt to make the semantic confrontation with the gradually developed interlanguage. GKBP consists of 9 volumes which were published in 12 volumen. It was decided to arrange the description of Polish-Bulgarian confrontative grammar in the direction from the contents to the form. The semantic interlanguage enabled the emergence of two equivalent grammars: the grammar of the modern Bulgarian language and the grammar of the modern Polish language. The analysis of semantic categories, which was applied in GKBP, ensures the coherent confrontative description, irrespective of whether the described languages have grammatical exponent of meanings or not. GKBP falls into the stream of modern theoretical confrontative research based on the logical theory of quantification, on the modern theory of processes titled „Petri nets”, and on the theory of logical predicate-argument structures. Our research removes the exact division into grammatical and lexical levels, thanks to which our research has introduced a lot of new observations of the examined phenomena. Universal semantic linguistic categories such as the time, the modality, the definiteness / the indefiniteness and the semantic case – which are essential for the language description, but have not yet been examined and have not been sufficiently described in the academic grammars of the Polish and Bulgarian languages – have been selected. The sequence of description in this synthesis was established not on the basis of order of developed volumes of GKBP, but on the basis of the generally accepted order of elements of the semantic structure of the sentence. The most external in the semantic structure of the sentence is its modal characteristics. Thereafter, the time, quantifiers and their order in the semantic structure of the sentence as well as the predicate-argument items are placed. Therefore, it is not an abbreviated summary of the issues analyzed in GKBP volumes. It is the description of selected semantic categories organized in accordance with the semantic order of the semantic structure of the Polish and Bulgarian sentences.

The present article is focused on the newest compounds with the foreign element homo-/xoмo-- and gej-/гeй- in Polish and Bulgarian languages. The source of language material are mainly Polish and Bulgarian press texts. The morphological structure of the compound types under discussion is described. Difficulties regarding the classification of new structures are stressed. Semantic analysis is introduced in the form of a proposal for deifinitons of the first components of the compound. In order to document the contexts of use of the lexemes (indirectly, the frequency of derivates and productivity of series), an Internet search query is performed. Essential differences between productivity and functioning of both types of compounds in the languages under discussion are described. Formal and semantic properties of the compounds, which may have a significant impact on the significant presence of such formations in the media language, are specified.

Opis:
At the end of 1980s and at the beginning of 1990s the question of the liturgical language (Church Slavonic or modern Bulgarian) became vital anew, the discussions were initiated by journalists, priests, theologians, linguists and others. In 1998 the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church allowed to use modern Bulgarian as well as Church Slavonic in the services but no church uses exclusively modern language for the liturgy. The present paper contains the results of the inquiry into the liturgical language in Bulgarian Orthodox Church, carried out in Sofia, Plovdiv and Kozloduy after the decision of the Bulgarian Holy Synod. The centre of attention is focused on the language attitudes of the liturgical language in Bulgaria nowadays.

Opis:
Contemporary Contrastive Studies of Polish, Bulgarian and Russian Neologisms versus Language CorporaIn the field of Slavonic linguistics contrastive studies of neologisms occupy little place, the newest words are insufficiently described and classified. The aim of this article is to draw attention to the need for contrastive description of the newest lexis and checking exclusively one of many possibilities of obtaining Polish, Bulgarian and Russian neologisms. Language corpora, as this possibility is in question, are not the only source from which the author obtains her research material, yet a growing interest in corpora has inspired her to also use this method. The author wants to show the reader to what degree language corpora can help in building the thesaurus of Polish, Bulgarian and Russian neologisms. Making an attempt to confront a collection of neologisms of contemporary Polish, Bulgarian and Russian language, the author points out the need to standardize the description (identical for each of the analysed languages), which she intends to propose in another publications on neologisms in Polish, Bulgarian and Russian language. The application of contrastive method to three different but related languages from the Slavonic group will help, in her opinion, to discover more mechanisms of new words coming into existence and examine the newest derivative processes and their productivity.

Opis:
Issues presented in the title are considered from the perspective of a practicing translator and illustrated with examples from the Polish translations of Bulgarian fiction. It is pointed out that for a professional translator the proximity of two languages, is more of an obstacle than a convenience. Different types of lexical interlinguistic homonyms (translator’s false friends) are viewed in comparison with corresponding translation solutions. The role of context and textual distribution of lexical units is highlighted. The specifics of phraseology as the object of translation is analyzed. A peculiar group of difficulties is generated by the so-called by the author „translator’s true enemies”, which include: problems caused by differences in the grammatical system of the two languages (distribution of prepositions; desemanticization of prepositions; the semantic load of double object, the specificity of the imperceptive mood, the abundance of pronominal forms) and subjective factors associated with creative behavior of the translator (lack of necessary pedantism; moments of inattention or fatigue, inadequate linguistic and extra-linguistic competence). In the end of the paper the possibility of translations and translators contributing in the development of Bulgarian-Polish lexicography is emphasized.

Opis:
The number of Dutch loanwords in Bulgarian is relatively large, although due to historical developments and the large geographical distance the two language regions had little direct contact throughout the centuries. Most Dutch words are mostly borrowed via a written language contact, through another language (i.e. Russian, French, German and/or English), sometimes after a long ‘journey’ until they eventually end up in Bulgarian. By means of these languages words from Afrikaans and other non-European languages have also reached Europe and Bulgarian in particular with the help of Dutch as a conduit. The Dutch loanwords in Bulgarian belong not only to the sphere of shipping, as one has argued until recently, but almost to all the twenty-two word fields “the order in which the man and mankind learns the world and learned know” (2001, 78) described by Van der Sijs, illustrating the wide range of Dutch loans.
Nicoline van der Sijs (2001, 78) napisała: „the order in which the man and mankind learns the world and learned know”. Cytat ten ilustruje szeroką gamę niderlandzkich zapożyczeń.
