Opis:
Egyptian waste cooking oils have special specifications because it expose to high temperatures during use for long hours. In the present experimental study, the performance and emissions of a four strokes, single cylinder, aircooled diesel engine fuelled with two different biodiesel from Egyptian used cooking oil (palm and sunflower) are evaluated at different speeds. The measured performance parameters include torque, fuel consumption and exhaust gas temperature. Brake power, brake specific fuel consumption and brake thermal efficiency was calculated using the measured test data The emission parameters include carbon monoxide, particulate matter and the oxides of nitrogen. The tests have been carried out with different blends of B5 to B100 of biodiesel with diesel fuel. The results showed that the cetane number of sunflower biodiesel has dropped significantly as a result of high temperatures and negatively affected the performance and emissions of the diesel engine also the engine performance with the palm biodiesel blend B5 is closed to diesel fuel also, for B5 CO emission decreased from 53 to 70% while NOx emission decreased from 13 to 80% compared to diesel fuel.

Sewage sludge is one of the most polluting wastes that affect the environment, which contains organic and inorganic pollutants released into the surroundings. Using non-renewable energy for the engine also releases large amounts of pollutants results from combustion products was other issues to the environment. The decline of non-renewable energy sources, such as natural gas, fossil fuel, and petroleum made the world increase the production of alternative fuels like waste-derived fuels. Recently, biodiesel production developed from edible oil to cover the depilation of non-renewable energy supply. But it has also become a significant challenge for food security. Therefore, finding other potential opportunities for lipid extraction is crucial. Algae and sludge conversion presented by recent studies seem to be a promising method. The paper presents the extraction and optimization of lipids from blended sludge and algae for biodiesel production. The procedure of the study was a characterization of algal and sludge wastes, the extraction of the lipid component by Soxhlet extraction, and the parameters optimization for maximum oil yield obtain. Temperature, extraction time, and solvents were the basic factor affect oil extraction yield. In the optimization 80 temperature, 6hrs time and hexane solvent results in 61% oil extraction yield which maximum point. Algae and wastewater sludge high potential of lipid and can be substitute edible oil supplies for biodiesel production.

The purpose of this study is to experimentally investigate the performance of compression ignition engine using a biodiesel extracted from waste cooking oils (WCO), such as, falafel frying palm oil, chicken frying soybean oil, and fresh oils, such as soybean and olive oils. After producing biodiesel from WCO and fresh oils, the mixtures were blended with pure diesel in two percentages as follows: B20 (20% biodiesel from each type, 80% pure diesel) and B10 (10% biodiesel from each type, 90% pure diesel). The biodiesel blends were used as an alternative fuel for diesel engine. The ignition performance of the fuel blends was compared with that of pure diesel B00 (0% biodiesel, 100%pure diesel). To analyze the effect of biodiesel on engine performance, the engine was operated at variable load from 0 to 6 kW and constant speed at 2000 RPM. For engine performance, brake power, brake specific fuel consumption and brake thermal efficiency were analyzed. The results showed that pure diesel produces higher brake force (BP) than all biodiesel blends. The highest value for brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) at variable load is for B20-F (20% biodiesel from falafel frying oil, 80% pure diesel) is equal to 0.243426 gm/kW.s. The highest value for brake thermal efficiency (BTE) is for B10-S (10% biodiesel from soybeans oil, 90% pure diesel) is equal to 27.6%.

The conventional process for biodiesel production by transesterification is still expensive due to a need of high excess of alcohol required and its recovery by distillation. The use of a reactive distillation process can reduce the amount of alcohol in the feed stream as it works on a simultaneous reaction and separation. In the present study, a mathematical model has been developed for biodiesel production from triglycerides in a reactive distillation column, which has been validated with the reported data and CHEMCAD results. The effects of process parameters such as methanol to oil feed ratio, feed temperature, and reaction time have been investigated. The sensitivity analysis shows that yield of ester increases with methanol to oil ratio and number of stages, however, it decreases with fl ow rate. The MATLAB simulated results show that methanol to oil molar ratio of 5:1 produces 90% (by wt.) of methyl ester in a residence time of 4.7 minutes.

Biodiesel is currently preferred for consumption and has been widely used as a substitute for diesel. This study aimed to determine the effect of various methanol-to-oil ratios in the esterification process and also the effect of hydrotalcite catalyst weight on the transesterification product. The catalyst was characterized with SEM, XRD, FTIR, and TG-DTG-DTA. The esterification process was operated at various oil-to-methanol ratios, i.e., 1:12–1:36 and the transesterification was performed using several catalyst weights, 0.5%–2.5%. The results showed that the optimum conditions of esterification were at the 1:30 molar ratio of oil-to-methanol, which decreased the amount of acid number by 95.75%, while the optimum condition of transesterification was at 1.5% catalyst weight. The characteristics of biodiesel using 0.5–2% hydrotalcite catalyst (acid number, total glycerol, free glycerol, ester levels, viscosity, density, oxidation stability) have met the Indonesian biodiesel standard of SNI-04-7182-2012.

The tree pods and seeds of Cassia fistula (CF) and Delonix regia (DR) were collected from the Faculty of Agriculture garden at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, during the spring season of 2019. The physical and chemical aspects of pods and seeds were examined. The percentage of oil and fatty acid compositions were then investigated. The pod weights ranged from 61.34 g in DR to 89.29 g in CF, with pod lengths ranged from 42.26 cm (DR) to 62.64 cm (CF). InCassia fistula, the seed weight per pod, the number of seeds per pod, and the weight of 100 seeds per pod were 12.29 g, 84, and 17.22 g, respectively; whereas in Delonix regia, they were 11.31 g, 23.5, and 34.25 g. The C. fistula had high levels of chlorophyll a and b, as well as total chlorophyll (1.016, 1.025, and 2.041 mg $g^{-1}$ DW), while D. regia recorded the lowest levels (0.513, 0.228, 0.741 mg $g^{-1}$ DW). The results also showed that the C. fistula leaves were also heavier than the D. regia leaves, weighing 14.96 g and 5.02 g fresh and dry weight for C. fistula and 10.06 g and 3.87 g fresh and dry weight for D. regia, respectively. The seeds of both plants were chemically tested, with percentages of Lipid, Moisture, Protein, Ash, Fibers, and Total Carbohydrates of 2.11, 10.79, 17.10, 4.95, 5.51, and 59.53 percent for Cassia fistula and 2.13, 6.52, 18.75, 0.37, 13.28, and 58.95 percent for Delonix regia, respectively. Eleven fatty acids were found in both plants seeds oil (lauric, myristic, palmitic, palmitoleic, stearic, oleic, eliadic, linoleic, linolenic, gondoic, and behenic acid). A slight variation was noted in linoleic acid, which was the major component of both oils ranging from 52.17 (CF) to 54.77% (DR). The prediction of the iodine values resulted in 97.6 and 98.8 for Cassia fistula and Delonix regia, respectively, which is a promising model for the production of biodiesel in the future.

Biodiesel is a promising energy substitute of fossil fuels since it is produced from renewable and biodegradable sources. In the present work, reactive distillation (RD) process is designed and simulated using Aspen Plus process simulator to produce biodiesel of high purity through esterification reaction. The simultaneous reaction and separation in same unit enhances the biodiesel yield and composition in RD process. Two flowsheets are proposed in present work. In the first flowsheet, the unreacted methanol is recycled back to reactive distillation column. Biodiesel with 99.5 mol% purity is obtained in product stream while the byproduct stream comprises 95.2 mol% water, which has to be treated further. In the second flowsheet, a part of methanol recycle is split and purged. In this case, the biodiesel composition in product stream is 99.7 mol% whereas water composition is 99.9 mol% in byproduct stream, which can be reused for other process without treatment.

The present study aims at producing diesel out of algae. The production of biodiesel was performed at Tafila Technical University laboratories. The algae were brought from Almansora stream at Tafila governorate - Jordan and afterwards dried in an oven at 80 °C for 12 hours. The dried algae were ground using disc mill until powder was obtained. The powdered algae underwent a distillation process with the addition of iron sulphate hydrate to the algae using a distillation column in order to extract the oil. Methanol was added to the oil, which was obtained from the distillation and using potassium hydroxide as a catalyst, the product was then separated in a funnel for about 10 hours until two layers of the solution were obtained; the organic layer represents the biodiesel. The biodiesel attributes are similar to the diesel oil, except that it reduces the emission of carbon dioxide CO2 and there is no emission of sulphur dioxide SO2.

The aim of the study was to determine the ultrasounds treatment of frying oil on their properties important in order to biodiesel production. The research material was a frying oil, which prior to transesterification oil was treated with ultrasounds (37 kHz) during 15, 30 and 60 min. In next step, prepared samples were analysed in terms of fatty acid composition, acid value, FFA % and then subjected to alkali transesterification process. After producing methyl esters the yield of biodiesel was analysed with thin liquid chromatography technique (TLC), and then samples were characterized in terms of viscosity in 40 °C, density at 15 °C, acid value, sulphur content and flash point. The results showed that an ultrasonic treatment had a little impact on the fatty acid composition of the test samples. The yield of biodiesel was the higher the longer time of ultrasounds treatment were used. One the other hand, determined with thin liquid chromatography technique yield of biodiesel was the higher the longer time of ultrasounds treatment were used. What is more, the ultrasounds treatment of oil before transesterification process had no impact on viscosity, density and acid value of these samples, while flash point values and sulphur content were changed.

Opis:
Określono wpływ powietrza, światła słonecznego, oddziaływania ciepła i obecności wody na zmianę liczby kwasowej, lepkości kinematycznej i parametrów niskotemperaturowych paliw (temperatury mętnienia, temperatury zablokowania zimnego filtru i temperatury płynięcia). Schemat starzenia próbek paliw, wpływ czasu i warunków starzenia na zmianę liczby kwasowej próbek badanych paliw, temperatura zablokowania zimnego filtru TZZF próbek paliw starzonych w różnych warunkach w ciągu 60 tygodni są zilustrowane w artykule. Stwierdzono, że najbardziej podatny na starzenie były estry metylowe oleju rzepakowego (RME) i bazowy hydrorafinowany olej napędowy. W rezultacie starzenia następuje bardzo duży przyrost liczby kwasowej, małe zmiany lepkości kinematycznej i bardzo małe zmiany parametrów niskotemperaturowych (temperatury mętnienia, temperatury zablokowania zimnego filtru i temperatury płynięcia) estrów metylowych oleju rzepakowego (RME). Najintensywniejsze starzenie estrów metylowych oleju rzepakowego (RME) powodują wymuszenia cieplne. Obecność wody intensyfikuje starzenie estrów metylowych oleju rzepakowego (RME), szczególnie przy długim czasie kontaktu.
The paper presents the results of laboratory investigations of aging processes of the biodiesel such as rapeseed oil methylesters (RME) and their blends with hydrofining based diesel fuels. The influence of air, light, elevated temperature and the presence of water on the total acid number, kinematic viscosity at 40°C and low-temperature parameters (Cloud Point, Cold Filter Plugging Point and Pour Point) of the fuels was determined. The aging of fuel samples, acid number as a function of time and conditions of aging for evaluated samples of fuels, and Cold Filter Plugging Point (CFPP) of fuel samples aging at different conditions during 60 weeks are illustrated in the paper. The least resistance to aging of rapeseed oil methylesters (RME) and hydrofining based diesel fuel was obtained. The aging influence dramatic increase in total acid number, little changes of the kinematic viscosity at 40°C and least changes of low-temperature parameters (Cloud Point, Cold Filter Plugging Point and Pour Point) of rapeseed oil methylesters (RME). The elevated temperature causes the largest impact on aging of rapeseed oil methylesters(RME). The aging of rapeseed oil methylesters (RME) is intensified in presence of water especially for long time of contact.

Opis:
Results of investigation the impact of an admixture of the Jet A‑1 aviation turbine fuel on the density, kinematic viscosity, acid number, and oxidation stability of rapeseed methyl esters (RME) have been presented. A growth in the Jet A‑1 content of the biodiesel blend has been found to cause a reduction in the density, acid number, and kinematic viscosity of the blend and to raise its oxidation stability. These relations have been presented in the form of regression equations as functions of the Jet A‑1 content in the blend, for this content varying from 0 % to 50 % by volume. Moreover, the impact of the access of air, sunlight, heat, and water on the characteristics of pure fuels and their blends was examined and the test results have been shown. It has been found that the adding of an admixture of the Jet A‑1 aviation fuel reduces the intensity of RME ageing and that it may be one of the methods to improve the functional RME characteristics, including the oxidation stability of this fuel.

The properties of rapeseed methyl ester (RME) and commercial biodiesel (B100) blends with aviation turbine fuel Jet A-1 were investigated. The RME (without improving additives) and B100 (with improving additives – including antioxidants and depressants) were blend with Jet A-1 fuel, to made six mixtures containing: 10 per cent, 20 per cent , 30 per cent, 40 per cent, 50 per cent and 60 per cent Jet A-1 by volume. Their blends were stable. Jet A-1 fuel and RME (B100) blends properties are indirect between Jet A-1 and RME properties. The density, kinematic viscosity at 40 centigrade, cloud point (CP), cold filter plugging point (CFPP) and pour point (PP) RME, B100, Jet A-1 and their blends were measured. Adding the Jet A-1 fuel to the RME and B100 can be the method to improve its low temperature properties. The empirical equations for calculation the density, kinematic viscosity at 40 centigrade, cloud point, cold filter plugging point and pour point RME (B100) blends with Jet A-1 fuel as a function of composition for predicting the properties of RME (B100) blends with aviation turbine fuel Jet A-1 give values in good agreement with experiments. Opis:
Fossil fuel resources are decreasing daily while biodiesel fuels are attracting increasing attention worldwide as blending components or direct replacements for diesel fuel in vehicle engines. In this experiment the seed oils of 30 Neem (Azadirachta indica. A. juss) biotypes were screened and evaluated for their physio-chemical parameters for oil content, biodiesel yield, density, viscosity, iodine value , free fatty acid and saponification value. Hence the neem seed oil tested in this current study could be the potential sources of raw material for biodiesel production.
