    The New Testament articles published in the Polish theological journal “Collectanea Theologica” initially (1920-1965) had significant apologetic characteristics. After the Second Vatican Council (1966-1989), they became more pastorally oriented. Especially in the years 1990-2006, many articles were devoted to the relationship between Christianity and Judaism. Since 2007, the problem of the reception of the Old Testament in the New Testament has become much more prominent. In general, the articles related to the New Testament bear witness to the strong ties of Polish biblical scholarship with the Vatican documents concerning Scripture as well as the exegetical methods elaborated in the pontifical universities and institutes in Rome. On the other hand, the heritage of German biblical scholarship is treated in the New Testament articles published in “Collectanea Theologica” with greater mistrust and criticism.

    The articles devoted to the Old Testament scholarship and published in the oldest and most important Polish theological journal “Collectanea Theologica” are ordered according to three main periods, namely: Years 1920-1939; Years 1949-1989 and Years 1990-2020. In the framework of these periods they and presented in seven phases: 1. Years 1920-1930; 2. Years 1931-1939; 3. Years 1949-1965; 4. Years 1966-1978; 5. Years 1979-1989; 6. Years 1990-2003 and 7. Years 2004-2020. All titles of publications and their authors are mentioned, giving an idea of the history, results and scientific level of Polish biblical scholarship on the first part of the Christian Bible. It may be observed that huge progress, both in quantity and quality, was done in the last half century.

    This article presents the fifty years of existence of the Catholic University of lublin biblical school, beginning in 1956. This period has been divided into three periods, when at the helm of the school stood first its founder Rev. prof. S. Łach (1956–1976), then the next two directors of the Institute (Fr H. Langkammer OFM and Rev. J. Kudasiewicz, years 1976–1988), and finally the creator of the modern Institute of Biblical Studies, Rev. prof. R. Rubinkiewicz SDB. The article ends with a short characteristics of their activity. A list of defended doctorates, habilitations, together with the indication of the studies in Rome,COMPLETES this historic review of lublin bible scholarship.

    In recent years the impact of Assyriology on Biblical studies and theknowledge of the history of ancient Israel has become more and moreevident. Thanks to Assyriology the reconstructions of the history of Israelin the period of the First Temple are much fuller and more comprehensivethan before. The same is true in regard to the very roots and nature of manybooks included in the Hebrew Bible. The up-to-date results of the cooperationof Biblical scholars and Assyriologists lead us to the conclusion thatin the 7th century B.C. there existed a strong and fruitful Israelite diasporain Assyria. Because information on its existence, influence and outcomeare consequently scanty in the Bible (damnatio memoriae), so Assyriologyhelps to gain a new knowledge about it and to assess its impact on the religionof ancient Israel.
