    Prezentowany artykuł jest rozdziałem przygotowywanej do druku przez Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego książki Kazimierza Brauna „Mój teatr Norwida”. Artykuł zawiera analizę Za kulisami Norwida z punktów widzenia historii kultury, dramatu i teatru. Odwołuje się również do doświadczeń reżyserskich autora, który sztukę tę zrealizował w Teatrze Telewizji w Warszawie (1966) i w Teatrze im. J. Słowackiego w Krakowie (1970).
    The article constitutes a chapter from the book “Mój teatr Norwida” (“My theatre of Norwid”) by Kazimierz Braun, prepared for the publication by the University of Rzeszów publishing house. The article contains the analysis of “Behind the scenes” by Norwid from the point of view of the history of culture, drama and theatre. At the same time, the article refers to the author’s experience who – as the director – staged the play at the TV Theatre in Warsaw (in 1966) and at the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Cracow (in 1970).

    Opis:
    The text is a review of the book entitled Poeta i myśliciel. Rozprawy i szkice o Norwidzie (A Poet and a Thinker. Studies and Sketches on Norwid) published in 2013. The book was prepared in the Center for Studies of Cyprian Norwid’s Work of the Catholic University of Lublin as the 17th item in the series “Studia i monografie” (“Studies and monographs”); it contains 13 texts written by Tadeusz Makowiecki who lived in the years 1900-1952, concerning the issues connected with the person of Norwid, with his work and its reception. The studies and sketches contained in the book were published in the years 1926-1952, but until now they were scattered in various publications. The material was collected and edited by Edyta Chlebowska and Włodzimierz Toruń. Among Makowiecki’s works published in the book texts are found with a critical character: a review of Zofia Szmydtowa’s publication Norwid wobec tradycji literackiej; an opinion about reception of the poet’s works – Z batalii o Norwida; short sketches touching the poet’s biography: T.T. Jeż a Norwid, in which the author investigated may be the first case of the poet’s life influencing literature; and Z lat szkolnych Cypriana Norwida; Makowiecki’s doctoral thesis Młodzieńcze poglądy Norwida na sztukę; articles bringing up the questions connected with the poet’s social-political views: Norwid wobec powstania styczniowego, Norwid a rok 1848; a synthetic disquisition Norwid myśliciel; the text Stygmat ruin w twórczości Norwida, referring mainly to some aspects connected with the presence of ancient motifs in the poet’s works; and finally studies containing interpretations of particular poems: “Promethidion Norwida a “Dworzanin” Górnickiego, Promethidion, Za kulisami “Tyrteja” (together with Irena Sławińska) and Fortepian Szopena. Makowiecki’s “Norwidian” works were read and appreciated even earlier, among others by Konrad Górski and Marek Buś. Despite the flow of time a considerable number of the Norwidist’s observation have not become out of date.

    Opis:
    Najbardziej interesujące zjawiska społeczne są na ogół trudno dostępne dla badacza. Trudności w tego typu projektach badawczych pojawiają się na każdym kroku: problem wiarygodności informatorów/badanych, problem wyboru odpowiedniej metody, problem niedostatecznej wiedzy na dany temat. Wszystko to powoduje, że badacz może znaleźć się w sytuacji, kiedy kontrola procesu badawczego jest niewielka. Czasami przeprowadzenie niektórych czynności badawczych może okazać się niemożliwe (np. ze względu na brak zgody na wejście do instytucji totalnej czy niechęć badanych do ujawniania informacji, które mogą uderzać w nich samych). Zjawiska trudno dostępne najczęściej opierają się metodom ilościowym. Złożoność takich zjawisk, ich specyfika, sprawiają, że badacze sięgają po metody jakościowe. Nie oznacza to jednak, że wybór ten chroni ich przed innymi niełatwymi decyzjami podczas pracy w terenie – może się okazać, że ostatnią instancją odwoławczą pozostaje intuicja badawcza i doświadczenie w pracy w terenie. Jak radzić sobie w terenie badając grupy zamknięte, wykluczone, specyficzne grupy zawodowe, społeczności lokalne, czy też zjawiska, które budzą wątpliwości etyczne: działania zakulisowe, korupcję, konflikt interesów? Jakich problemów możemy się spodziewać? W artykule postaram się zaprezentować przykłady zmagań badawczych ze zjawiskami trudno dostępnymi
    The most interesting social phenomena are usually difficult to access for a researcher. Different problems in such research projects appear every step a researcher take: reliability and credibility of informants, choosing a right research method, having insufficient knowledge about the subject. All these factors can cause that a researcher has not enough control over research process. Sometimes a researcher might not even be able to conduct everything he/she planned (e.g. he/she will be refused to conduct research in a total institution or the informants will not be willing to share pieces of information which are harmful for themselves). Quantitative methods are usually of no use in exploring such phenomena. Their complexity, specifics cause that researchers use qualitative methods. Choosing these methods does not mean that a researcher can avoid difficult decisions whilst doing the field work – it can happen that the last source of reference is researcher’s intuition and experience in field work. What are the ways of conducting research on closed or excluded groups, total institutions, specific professional groups, local communities or the phenomena that cause ethical doubts: actions ‘behind the scenes’ or other covert activity involving corruption or conflict of interest? What are the difficulties and problems we can expect? In my paper I present examples of different research on phenomena that are difficult to investigate.
