Opis:
This article tries to examine the underpinning determinants of voting behavior in Sudan. It adopts a descriptive method and an inter-disciplinary approach with empirical explanation to verify the hypothesis that “voting behavior in Sudan is a function of religious sectarianism and ethnicity more than other determinants, such as ideology, class or socio-economic status.” It discusses the interrelationship between voting behavior and other relevant concepts, such as political behavior, electoral behavior, and political culture. It explains how several determinants/factors converge on influencing the voting behavior. The article notes that the vigorous influence of ethnicity and religious sectarianism over the political behavior in Sudan resulted in apparently irrational voting behavior. These two determinants have marked the political behavior in Sudan since it regained independence in 1956. However, the Uprising of 2018 ushered in an emergence of a new conscious generation that might lead to a paradigm shift for political and voting behavior. The article proposes the adoption of Consociational democracy with proportional representation and parliamentary system to guarantee the representation of minorities and sustain a fair share of power and wealth to put an end to instability and wars. In the case of Sudan, it is advisable that more attention should be paid to the development of political culture and efficacious civic engagement in politics should be boosted to increase conscious political participation to pave the way for sustainable democracy.

Research report „Political Behavior of the People of Toruń” is a part of a research project „People of Toruń on Politics”. The aim of the project was to learn about opinions, interest in politics and political activity, including electoral behavior of people who live in Toruń. The sample was composed of 350 people who filled in questionnaires. The results show that young people (up to 24) are less interested in politics then the older cohorts, that the main source of political knowledge are: TV and the Internet, and that the people who live in Toruń are not very engaged in political activities except voting. Not many of them are members of political parties or other political organizations; they rarely take part in political manifestations or marches. Analysis of electoral behavior of the sample suggests that the Civic Platform is loosing its popularity and the new parties, which emerged during the last electoral campaign, are popular mostly among the youngest.

Most athletes are subject to intense mental and physical pressure not only during competition but also during practice. An important variable which may influence athletes’ performance is coaching behavior. The aim of the present study is to investigate if coaching behavior and its antecedents differentiate athletes according to their gender, type of sport, competition experience and weekly practice-time. The sample consisted of 367 male and female athletes who participated in both individual and team sports. They completed the Greek version of the “Coaching Behavior Questionnaire” (CBQ). Results indicated that coaching behavior differentiated athletes of individual sports, and athletes of team sports and experienced women with experienced men. Furthermore, coaches’ behavior contributed to the differentiation on athletes who practice more than those who practice less. In conclusion, these results could help athletes, coaches and sport professionals become more familiar with psychological aspects that influence athletes’ behavior.

More and more frequent occurrence of civilisational diseases has made it necessary to shape healthy lifestyle as well as to encourage people to practice health behaviors. Studies show that awareness of the benefits of such lifestyle itself does not guarantee the adequate level of motivation to pursue it. According to Isaac Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior it is subjective norms, an attitude towards behavior and a perceived behavioral control that affect motivation. The aim of our research was to verify the Aizen’s model in relation to health behaviors undertaken by adults, and to answer the question whether age (e.g. due to the decrease of body condition, but also the specificity of developmental tasks) is a factor which differentiates the level of motivation for health behaviors. The study included 60 people divided into two groups – early and late adulthood. We used conventional and original research tools: Health Behaviors Inventory, Multidimensional Health Locus of Control, Questionnaire for Attitudes towards Health Behaviors and Test of Subjective Norm for Health Behaviors – the latter two methods are of our own authorship. Among the most important results of the conducted research are the data indicating that an important predictor of health behaviors in the group of early adulthood are attitudes towards such behaviors (they explain 55% of the variability). At the same time, in the older group the significant variables are both attitudes and internal locus of control, which explain 35% of the variability of results. This information can be helpful when creating programs for changing health habits in different age groups.

Technological development has resulted in the digitization of many areas of life. The modern society is particularly defined as the “information society”, because of the fact that most of their activities take place on the Internet and thus the society is information-dependent. The introduced governmental sanitary restrictions (also in terms of the functioning of the economy) to limit the spread of the coronavirus caused that life has shifted to a greater extent to the Internet sphere. The aim of the study is to determine the potential impact of a pandemic on the virtualization of buying behavior. The conducted research is exploratory in nature and constitutes a valuable starting point for potential further directions of analyzes. The results of this study showed that excavating the topic of the impact of the pandemic on buying behavior in the area of consumption virtualization is justified, because in all the analyzed product categories there was a statistically significant change in the form of purchases.

Opis:
Aim/purpose - The paper aims to present a preliminary consumer typology based on the declared nutritional behaviors and selected lifestyle elements of Polish and Slovak consumers. Design/methodology/approach - The research was conducted in the first half of 2019, among non-randomly selected subjects representing their households from Poland and Slovakia. The empirical part of the work is based on the results of research employing a structured standardized interview. Cluster analysis was used in the analysis of the results. Findings - The results of the research showed that the eating behaviors of Polish and Slovak consumers differ. Some Polish and Slovak consumers follow the principles of healthy eating. Among Polish consumers we distinguished four types of consumers: I - "Driven by the principles of healthy eating"; II - "Implementing the principles of healthy eating"; III - "Ordinary bread eaters"; IV - "Consciously unaware." In turn, among Slovak consumers, we distinguished also fourth types: I - "Driven by the principles of healthy eating"; II - "Exercise and drink milk!"; III - "Not attaching importance to healthy eating"; IV - "Eat tastily and healthily." The distinguished types of consumers can be the basis for the food market segmentation. Knowledge of the typology based on declared eating behaviors and selected aspects of the lifestyle may enable food producers to develop an appropriate marketing strategy. Research implications/limitations - A certain limitation may be the non-random sample selection. An important aspect would also be to expand the analyzed research thread with additional aspects related to eating behavior and lifestyle. Another limitation is that the clusters were delivered in two separate processes for Poland and Slovakia, respectively. As a result, the clusters are different and represent two different typologies. Originality/value/contribution - The research may be an important source of information for researchers dealing with consumer typology. The distinguished types of consumers can be the basis for the food market segmentation.

It still remains an open problem as to which directions and methods are necessary to choose in the situations of risk, xenophobia, and intolerance, so as to settle disputes and resolve conflicts; it should be done in such a way as to have the desired social effects and to properly implement moral principles, including responsibility for the real future of one’s own, of one’s community, and of the whole human species. The author justifies the position that the processes of transformation of the social order should take a more remarkable account of the requirements of safety culture and praxeology recommendations.

In academic literature there is a whole range of hypotheses relating to the genesis of the symbolic behavior, which are usually also associated with the beginnings of the development of spirituality. In the nineteenth century, the considerations conducted in this area were often influenced by negative stereotypes (relating, among others, to hunter-gatherers), which were later deconstructed. Although the discussion on this subject has been ongoing since the nineteenth century, even in the light of research and achievements of the modern science, the problem of the origins of symbolic behavior has still not been unequivocally resolved. However, it is assumed that they should be attributed primarily to the changes that were initiated in our ancestors from the Homo Sapiens family. In recent years, however, some ethologists and primatologists believe that the genesis of symbolic behavior should be sought in the animal world. I devote my article to this diversified subject matter.

Opis:
The article presents the characteristics and methods of therapy of developmental disorders; these methods are derived from the theory of learning and are collectively called behavioral therapy. This presentation takes the standpoint of behavior analysis i.e. a science concerned with behavior and environmental variables which affect it. The article starts with a brief overview of the most basic assumptions of behavior analysis and of the main areas of its applications. Three essential goals of behavioral therapy of developmental disorders have been indicated, and the most important methods used to achieve these goals were described. It has been suggested to classify methods of behavioral therapy according to various kinds of learning from which they are derived and to the laws of learning that constitute the mechanism of their work. Conclusion of this article emphasizes empirically proven effectiveness of behavioral therapy in the treatment of developmental disorders.

Since the 1970s, social psychology has investigated real human behavior to an increasingly smaller degree. The author of the article suggests that the phenomenon of cognitive revolution in psychology naturally boosted the interest of researchers in such phenomena like attitudes, values, social judgments and stereotypes; at the same time, it decreased interest in others important topics like aggression, social influence or altruism. In recent decades, we have also witnessed a growing conviction among social psychologists that explaining why people perform certain actions holds greater importance that demonstrating the conditions under which people really display particular reactions. The key question appears in this situation of whether social psychology remains of science of (real) behavior, and whether the current condiction of the discipline is desirable or rather pathological.

The current research was aimed to investigate the impact of staffs' moral intelligence on their citizenship behavior in state and private banks in the city of Mahabad. For this purpose, moral intelligence, based on the view of Lennick and Keil, is defined in four dimensions of honesty, accountability, compassion and organizational citizenship behavior and is also defined in five dimensions of altruism, conscientiousness, manliness, courtesy and civic behavior in accordance with the view of Organ and Bateman. In this regard, a main hypothesis and five secondary hypotheses have been regulated. The statistical population of the current research was consisted of staffs at state and private banks in the city of Mahabad who accounted for 326 people. The volume of the statistical population was obtained 130 people by using the Cochran formula that were selected based on classified random sampling method from among the statistical population. Tool for gathering information and data included two inventories including Moral Intelligence Inventory with 40 questions and Organizational Citizenship Behavior Inventory with 30 questions, which were provided to the statistical sample after validity and reliability were measured. The questionnaires having been gathered, the resulting information was summarized and classified by using descriptive statistical methods and to test research hypothesis, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Pearson R and regression tests were used. The results from testing the hypotheses indicated that all the research hypotheses were supported, i.e. staffs' moral intelligence were having effects on their organizational citizenship behaviors in state and private banks in the city of Mahabad.

Maritime shipping is a set of complex activities with a large number of actors involved. We focus on a subset of illegal maritime activities, such as armed robberies, maritime piracy or contraband smuggling. To fight against them and minimize their negative impact naval authorities typically introduce a number of countermeasures, such as deployed patrols or surveillance agents. Due to very high costs of countermeasures it is often beneficial to evaluate their impact using a simulation, allowing what-if analysis and evaluation of a range of scenarios before actually deploying the countermeasures. We introduce BANDIT, an agent-based computational platform, which is designed to evaluate scenarios with an accent on the modeling of different types of illegal behavior and on the interaction between agents. The platform consists of an agent behavior modeling system and a multi-agent maritime simulator. The platform allows the definition of a number of scenarios through a simple configuration and it offers the means to run these scenarios in a single or a batch mode and evaluate the results as single or aggregate data sets respectively. We demonstrate the usefulness of the platform on the scenarios of the drug smuggling problem in the seas surrounding Central America. Senario outcomes (e.g., heatmaps of activities, set of trajectories etc.) are subsequently used to help with the design of effective countermeasures, i.e., allocating naval patrols and planning their patrol routes.

Social psychologists only to very small degree investigate real human behavior. This article is an analysis of the reasons why this is so. The author points out that the otherwise valuable phenomenon of cognitive shift, which occurred precisely in the 1960s, naturally boosted the interest of social psychologists in such phenomena like stereotypes and values; at the same time, it unfortunately decreased interest in others, like aggression or altruism. Researchers today generally preferring to employ survey studies (even if they are a component of experiments being conducted) to analysis of behavioural variables. This gives rise to the question of whether social psychology remains a science of behavior.
