Opis:: In 1984 the nests of the White Stork in the area of the former Bełchatów District (734 km2) and a part of the former Sieradz District (about 720 km2) were investigated. Comparisons were based on questionnaire data from 1968-1970 and on an inspection from 1974. 42 (5.72 nests /100 km2) and 35 (4.86 nests/km 2) nests, respectively, occupied by pairs were recorded. In the whole course of the investigated period the percentage of nests with no breeding success (HPo) increased exponentially. Changes in the efficiency of breeding from year to year resulted mainly in changes in the differences in the percentages of nests having extreme numbers of young birds which had left the nests. A negative influence of the mine upon the efficiency of breeding of stork nesting within an area adjoining a strip brown coal mine was proved.

Opis:: Artykuł koncentruje się na dwóch zasadniczych problemach. Z jednej strony przedstawia zmiany, jakie zaszły w gminie Kleszczów w sferze demograficznej i gospodarczej pod wpływem uruchomienia na jej obszarze Kombinatu Górniczo-Energetycznego Bełchatów. Z drugiej strony prezentuje odbiór tego miejsca przez mieszkających tam ludzi, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem relacji społecznych oraz opinii mieszkańców na temat najbliższej przyszłości. Empiryczną podstawę studium stanowiły materiały i informacje zebrane w trakcie badań zarówno terenowych, jak i kameralnych. Źródłem informacji były oficjalne dane statystyczne GUS za lata 1970–2020, a także wywiady kwestionariuszowe z mieszkańcami gminy i wybrane fora internetowe mieszkańców. Badania ankietowe przeprowadzono na grupie 130 mieszkańców gminy, co stanowiło 3% ich ogólnej liczby. Budowa kombinatu górniczo-hutniczego spowodowała wiele nieodwracalnych zmian w przestrzeni geograficznej gminy Kleszczów, które dotyczyły sfer przyrodniczej i społeczno-ekonomicznej. Nastąpiły również wielkie zmiany ludnościowe wynikające z ruchów migracyjnych, które stworzyły nową, heterogeniczną zbiorowość lokalną gminy. Równolegle z etapami industrializacji i urbanizacji ewoluowały także postawy mieszkańców wobec swojego miejsca zamieszkania.
The article focuses on two main problems. On the one hand, it presents the changes that have taken place in the Kleszczów commune (Poland) in the demographic and economic sphere under the influence of the launch of the “Bełchatów” mining and energy plant in its area. On the other hand, it presents the contemporary awareness and perception of this place by the people living in the commune, with particular emphasis on social relations and the opinion of residents about its immediate future. The empirical basis of the study were materials and information collected during field and inhouse surveys. The source of data were both official statistical data of the Central Statistical Office for the years 1970–2020, as well as questionnaire interviews with residents of the commune and selected Internet forums of residents. The survey was conducted on a group of 130 inhabitants of the commune, which accounted for 3% of their total number. The analysis of the collected material revealed that the construction of the mining and metallurgical plant caused many irreversible changes in the geographical space of the Kleszczów commune, which concerned the natural and socio-economic sphere. There were also great population changes resulting from migration movements, which created a new, heterogeneous local community of the commune. Parallel to the stages of industrialisation and urbanisation of this area, the attitudes of residents towards their place of residence have also evolved.
