Opis:
Higher education must respond to dynamically changing job market needs and this has become the third mission of higher education institutions. Traditional methods of sharing knowledge and developing students’ skills are not satisfactory. For this reason, it is necessary to seek teaching alternatives, such as PBL (Problem-Based Learning) and PjBL (Project-Based Learning). This paper presents the idea of applying the above-mentioned methods to the BA in Linguistics for Business at the University of Lodz, an innovative and interdisciplinary BA programme combining linguistics with management. The participants combine skills and knowledge gained throughout their studies, i.e. linguistics, intercultural communication, accounting and finance, or selected aspects of running a business. Moreover, creating group BA projects reflects real-life situations students may encounter in the workplace.

The specific heat of high quality $La^{N}B_{6}$ (N=10, 11, natural) single crystals is investigated in a wide range of temperatures 2 - 300 K. The obtained data allow to estimate correctly (i) the electronic γ· T term of specific heat (γ ≈ 2.4 mJ/(mol·$K^{2}$)), (ii) the contribution from quasilocal vibrating mode of $La^{3+}$ ions ($Θ_{E}$ ≈ 150 - 152 K), (iii) the Debye-type term from rigid boron cages ($Θ_{D}$ ≈ 1160± 40 K). Our data also suggest an additional defect-mode component (iv) which may be attributed to a contribution of 1.5% boron vacancies in $LaB_{6}$. The obtained results may be interpreted in terms of formation of two level systems, which appear when $La^{3+}$ ions are displaced from their centrosymmetric positions in the cavities of rigid boron cages, apart from randomly distributed boron vacancies in the $LaB_{6}$ matrix.

We present the detailed study of magnetic, thermodynamic, and transport properties of polycrystalline NdAgAl₃. The compound crystallizes in BaNiSn₃-type tetragonal structure with the space group I4mm. Magnetic, heat capacity and transport measurements indicate the possible antiferromagnetic nature of the ordering below 2 K. The compound shows the Schottky anomaly in heat capacity data. Magnetoresistance is negative at low temperature.

The objective of this paper is to use a zero refractive index n metamaterial as single layer superstrate suspended above a microstrip patch antenna (MPA), operating at 43 GHz, for the gain enhancement. The single metamaterial layer superstrate is composed of a periodic arrangement of Jerusalem cross unit-cells, and behaves as an homogeneous medium characterized by a refractive index close to zero. This metamaterial low index property allows gathering radiated waves from the antenna and collimates them towards the superstrate normal direction. The proposed design improves the antenna gain by 5.1 dB.

Circular and concentric circular antenna array patterns are synthesized to generate array factors with minimum side-lobe level and high directivity. The comprehensive learning differential search algorithm is used for synthesizing a one-and a three-ring circular and concentric circular antenna array with thirty elements. This synthesis is done by finding the optimum inter-element spacing of rings, phases and/or positions that give optimum side lobe level. The computational results show that side lobe level is reduced significantly in non-uniform case for concentric in comparison with a single ring.

Dynamical behavior of an asymmetric spin valve, Co/Cu/Py nanopillar sandwiched between Cu electrodes, subject to a spin-polarized current was investigated in the diffusive transport regime. Using numerical macrospin simulations, the dynamical diagrams of the sensing layer were constructed, and the possibilities of switching from one collinear state to the other were discussed. A simple switching scheme for asymmetric spin valves, based on a sequence of current and magnetic field pulses, was proposed and illustrated on an example.

Opis:
In the late 1950s the Ultrasonic Group at Michigan State University introduced light diffraction to study distortion of ultrasonic waves in liquids under the direction of Prof. Egon Hiedemann. In this paper some results of these studies will be presented with detailed description of the author's measurements of B/A. The rate at which the harmonics are developed (the wave distortion is an indication of the harmonics present) during the propagation of the initially sinusoidal ultrasonic wave depends on the nonlinearity of the medium. The light which is diffracted by the distorted wave results in asymmetric pattern contrary to the Raman-Nath theoretical prediction. From the light intensity measurements due to the generated second harmonics - filtered out by a metal plate - the nonlinearity parameter B/A was determined. Developments in studying finite amplitude standing ultrasonic waves in a liquid filled cavity will be also discussed. Using light diffraction measurements it was observed that above a threshold amplitude, fractional harmonics of the driver transducer are also generated in addition to the generated harmonics. It was recently observed that above a second threshold value of the driver amplitude the system undergoes chaotic behavior. Further increase of the driver amplitude returns the system from chaos to stable oscillation.

An analytically tractable simple model of a magnetic domain wall in a ferromagnetic metal is considered and, assuming the ballistic regime of electronic transport, transmission and reflection coefficients of such a wall are calculated within the stationary scattering theory. It is rederived that for realistic values of electron energies and domain wall widths the transmission coefficient is very close to one and thus an ideal domain wall itself (i.e. not taking into account other aspects such as disorder) does not essentially represent a hindrance to the transport.

Here we present the results of the zero-field specific heat study of the $LuFe_6Al_6$ single crystal. The specific heat data were analyzed as a sum of the phonon, electronic, and magnetic contributions, respectively. The analysis of the phonon part involves three acoustic and 36 optical branches, respectively, all of them corrected for the anharmonicity. The magnetic part of the specific heat was obtained by subtracting the electronic and the phonon part from the experimental specific heat and the magnetic entropy was calculated.

Swarm Intelligence is the part of Artificial Intelligence based on study of actions of individuals in various decentralized systems. The optimization algorithms which are inspired from intelligent behavior of honey bees are among the most recently introduced population based techniques. In this paper, a novel hybrid algorithm based in Bees Algorithm and Particle Swarm Optimization is applied to the Knapsack Problem. The Bee Algorithm is a new population-based search algorithm inspired by the natural foraging behavior of honey bees, it performs a kind of exploitative neighborhood search combined with random explorative search to scan the solution, but the results obtained with this algorithm in the Knapsack Problem are not very good. Although the combination of BA and PSO is given by BSO, Bee Swarm Optimization, this algorithm uses the velocity vector and the collective memories of PSO and the search based on the BA and the results are much better. We use the Greedy Algorithm, which it's an approximate algorithm, to compare the results from these metaheuristics and thus be able to tell which is which gives better results.

Opis:
Water is a boon for all living beings over the world and groundwater is considered one of the indispensable natural sources of potable water. It is necessary to assess and predict the groundwater potential to provide insights for decision-makers for proper planning and management of groundwater. The occurrence of groundwater depends on hydrological, ecological, climate, geological, and physiographical criteria. The purpose of the present study is to choose and attribute scores to all various factors that affected groundwater prospects in the Ba river basin. Firstly, the Delphi method was applied in the expert-based survey to choose six parameters that are considered as influencing factors, namely, lineament density, rainfall, slope, land cover, drainage density, and geology. Then, the weights for the various factors were generated using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) approach which allows the pairwise comparison of criteria influencing the potential areas. The consistency analyses show that the findings were consistent with a previous study. The consistency and sensitivity analyses showed that the obtained results were coherent, providing the weight vector of the achievable criteria that affect the groundwater prospect in the study area. The study reveals that lineament density and slope are criteria affecting the most prominent groundwater occurrence with 35.1% and 20.1%, respectively. However, the influence of other factors (rainfall, land cover, drainage density, and geology) is not visible. These criteria are assigned to the small weights and do not have a significant influence on the groundwater potential. The study results provide baseline information, which needs to be taken into account to control and manage groundwater potentiality.

Opis:
Thermodynamic studies of the anion-radical salt system [Ni(bipy)₃](TCNQ)₄·(CH₃)₂CO, where TCNQ is 7,7',8,8'-tetracyano-quinodimethane, are reported. The anion-radical salt systems based on TCNQ belong to a material class in which the arrangement of the anion-radical salt has considerable impact on the charge transfer and magnetic properties. The crystal structure of the studied compound consists of [Ni(bipy)₃]⁺² cations containing Ni⁺² ions and four types of crystallographically independent anion-radicals TCNQ^{·-} (A, B, C and D). These TCNQ^{·-} radicals form two different types of TCNQ^{·-} stacks (AABB and CCDD), where a strong exchange interaction is expected. The temperature dependence of the specific heat of a single crystal was studied in magnetic fields up to 5 T and in the temperature range from 0.4 K to 30 K. The temperature dependence of specific heat displays a broad Schottky-like maximum above 0.4 K. Using a single-ion approximation, the analysis of the temperature dependence of the specific heat below 10 K yields values for the anisotropy parameters, D/k_{B}=-1.95 K and E/k_{B}=0.3 K. These results suggest that the observed maximum in the specific heat originates from Ni⁺² ions while the exchange interaction between the transition metal ions and the TCNQ is negligible.

We show that high temperature superconductivity contrary to the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer /BCS/ superconductors exhibits three important energy scales. The highest is associated with the formation of Cooper pairs coupled due to the magnetic fracton excitations, the second (pseudogap) we ascribe to the formation of coherent but not nonsuperfluid condensate. The lowest energy scale (superconducting gap) we associate with the onset of superfluidity of the condensate that is due to the phonon aided fracton hopping.
