Opis:
The Polish criminal procedure is strictly based on the Polish Constitution and complex legislation. It involves many steps, phases and stages and creates very complex processes that are composed of multiple sub-processes and activities. Nowadays, the participants of the Polish criminal procedure are provided with modern IT limitedly. Increase the effectiveness of criminal justice is possible via changes in both organizational and procedural way, as well as through the IT technologies supporting the processing of information at any stage of a criminal proceeding. We propose two-way analysis of the criminal procedure: modelling and simulation of the process similarly to Business Processes Modelling (BPM), which forms the basis for measuring and assessing an effectiveness, and optimization based on hybrid models and methods: GAN/GERT with queuing theory and optimization. The practical result of this work is the workflow system extended with the business process simulator.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to study how the Sars-Cov-19 pandemic has affected the processes and performance management of medium-sized outpatient clinics in Poland. Given the novelty of the studied area and lack of relevant literature, the case study approach has been employed. Design/methodology/approach: The case study was performed at CortenMedic, a medium 17 sized outpatient clinic located in Poland. We analyzed materials obtained from CortenMedic and interviewed its management board. Following an in-depth restructuring of processes, performance management, and business processes management governance, the CortenMedic adjusted to an environment and has taken advantage of opportunities. Findings: As a result, the CortenMedic recognized outstanding results superior to those before the Sars-Cov-19 period. This study shows that the business processes management and performance management should be dynamic and follow the changes identified inside and outside the companies. The changes through Sars-Cov-19 appear very quickly and are of temporary nature. We postulate the threat of the Sars-Cov-19 pandemic can be converted by the healthcare organizations into an opportunity. Research limitations/implications: Several limitations of our research must be acknowledged. Firstly, we shall note we based our study on only one organization located in Poland. Since we do not compare our results with other Polish and European clinics, obtained in this study results might not be generalizable. Practical implications: The increased role of BPM governance in the pandemic period, as compliance with processes, especially with work safety standards, become of utmost importance, posing a thrill of infection otherwise. In this sense, the postulates of this study might be applicable to other healthcare services providers. Additionally, the results of the paper can provide guidance to a decision-maker or management staff through improving the structure of primary and secondary processes depending on the needs and expectations of a dynamic environment. Social implications: The article’s findings may still offer astute insights to researchers and practitioners who wish to consider more information regarding the importance of the BPM and PM in the healthcare sector through the business process restructuring. Originality/value: The added value of the article is the answer to the question study how the Sars-Cov-19 pandemic has affected the BPM and performance management (PM) of medium 6 sized outpatient clinics in Poland.

The paper presents the concept of a dynamic business process management and the possibility of its use in the context of the construction of medical decision support system based on a repository of clinical pathways. In addition, the report includes a summary of key findings and conclusions (for the clinical pathways modeling of their adaptive and interoperable nature and warehouse processes/clinical pathways as a basis for the analysis and optimization of their implementation) of the POIG.01.03.01-145/08 project, funded by the Operational Program "Innovative Economy" under the European Regional Development Fund and executed in 2009-2010 at the Faculty of Cybernetics Military University of Technology.

Zrównoważone zarządzanie procesowe (Green Business Process Management – Green BPM) uwzględnia aspekty środowiskowe w zarządzaniu procesami ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem konsekwencji środowiskowych na każdym etapie łańcucha wartości przedsiębiorstw. Takie podejście pozwala organizacji przyczynić się do podejmowania wyzwań związanych ze zrównoważonym rozwojem w odniesieniu do realizowanych procesów. Celem opracowania jest znalezienie odpowiedzi na postawiony problem badawczy: W jakich działaniach przejawia się wprowadzanie koncepcji Green BPM i jaki to ma związek z koniecznością raportowania ESG w sektorze finansowo-ubezpieczeniowym? Artykuł zwiększa wiedzę o mechanizmach i uwarunkowaniach wprowadzania Green BPM w sektorze finansowo-ubezpieczeniowym na przykładzie wybranego studium przypadku. Omawia związek Green BPM z raportowaniem ESG, przyczynia się do rozwoju wiedzy poprzez analizę i syntezę literatury na temat Green BPM, łączenie problematyki Green BPM z ESG, wskazanie kierunku możliwych przyszłych badań empirycznych skupiających się na tematyce cyfrowego śladu węglowego w działaniach Green BPM.
Green Business Process Management (Green BPM) takes into account environmental aspects and includes identifying, modeling, analyzing, simulating, executing business processes with special attention to environmental consequences at each stage of the enterprise value chain. This approach allows an organization to contribute to the sustainability challenges of its processes. It also requires redefining and redesigning business processes, taking into account pro-environmental aspects, as well as support from managers and executives. The purpose of the paper is to find an answer to the research problem posed: In what activities is the introduction of the Green BPM concept manifested, and how does this relate to the need for ESG reporting in the financial and insurance sector? The article increases the knowledge of the mechanisms and conditions for the introduction of Green BPM in the financial and insurance sector using a selected case study as an example. It discusses the relationship between Green BPM and ESG reporting, contributes to knowledge development by analyzing and synthesizing the literature on Green BPM linking Green BPM and ESG issues, pointing out the direction of possible future empirical research focusing on the topic of digital footprint in Green BPM activities.

Executable business processes that formally describe company activities are well placed in the SOA environment, as they allow for the declarative organization of high-level system logic. However, to fully benefit from that element of abstraction, appropriate business process monitoring systems are required for both technical and non-technical users. Unfortunately, current solutions remain unsatisfactory. This paper discusses the problem of business process monitoring in the context of the service orientation paradigm, in order to propose an architectural solution and provide implementation of a system for business process monitoring that alleviate the shortcomings of the existing solutions. Various platforms have been investigated to obtain a broader view of the monitoring problem and to gather functional and non-functional requirements. These requirements constitute input for further analysis and system design. The monitoring software is then implemented and evaluated according to the specified criteria. An extensible business process monitoring system was designed and built on top of OSGiMM – a dynamic, event-driven, configurable communications layer that provides real-time monitoring capabilities for various types of resources. The system was tested against the stated functional requirements, and its implementation provides a starting point for further work. It has been concluded that providing a uniform business process monitoring solution that satisfies a wide range of users and business process platform vendors is a difficult endeavor. It is furthermore reasoned that only an extensible, open source monitoring platform based on a scalable communication core has a chance to address all current and future requirements.

Techniki eksploracji procesów pozwalają zniwelować lukę pomiędzy wyobrażeniem, jak dany proces powinien wyglądać a tym, jak on wygląda w rzeczywistości. Na dynamicznie rozwijającym się rynku przedsiębiorstw przewagę konkurencyjną zdobywa ta firma, która szybciej jest w stanie przeanalizować i usprawnić swoje procesy. Umiejętne wykorzystanie technik eksploracji procesów może stanowić o takiej przewadze.
The main aim of this article is to present the potential and possibilities of using process mining techniques in order to recommend and improve business processes realized in enterprises. Process mining methods allow for the analysis of business processes based on event logs to overcome the gap between the traditional approach to process modeling and their real life execution. On the booming enterprise market the ability to quickly analyze and constantly improve processes is a starting point for gaining advantages over competitors. Thus, process mining techniques may bring additional value to every business.

Maturity models are tools enabling application of structured approach for process improvement and assessment of business process management capabilities (BPM) of the organizations. In fact, the number of maturity models is so large that it is difficult or even impossible to identify leading standard. The aim of this paper is therefore to provide a review of BPM maturity models. Design/methodology/ approach - the article follows research process of literature review. This work focuses in particular on the applicability and usability of process maturity models that were reviewed according to general design principles. Research Limitations/implications - The author is convinced that this review covers the main publicly available BPM maturity models. As the number of models is constantly increasing, paper is not claiming completeness.

Purpose: The main objective of the article is to present the concept of assessing the level of an organization’s utilization of its potential for transformation towards process orientation, using a practical implementation example. Design/methodology/approach: The structure of the research procedure was based on the theoretical assumptions regarding the methodological procedures involving development of a model of process maturity assessment. Such research methods as bibliometric analysis, systematic literature review, participant observation, opinion survey and semi-structured interview were used to achieve the research objectives formulated. Findings: The value of the article entails the combination of quantitative and qualitative methods to determine an organization’s propensity for transition towards higher levels of process maturity. This effect has been achieved using a method of multi-hierarchical process maturity assessment. It has been determined that the organization under examination is at the second level of process maturity, although many of the elements diagnosed show third-level process maturity potential. An authorial research method has been additionally verified, as well as the examined organization’s real and utilized potential has been determined, which constitute the basis for assessing the level of process maturity. Research limitations/implications: inability to fully objectify the research results obtained. Practical implications: The article shows the basis and the method for identifying the examined company’s real and utilized potential of process maturity as well as for determining the level of process maturity, based on which the company’s strategy towards a higher level of process maturity can be formulated. Originality/value: The unique nature of this article lies in the proposed method of multi-hierarchical assessment of an organization’s process maturity. In order to deepen the interpretation of the results obtained from a quantitative study, qualitative research was used. This allows development of a strategy for achievement of higher levels of maturity.

This article presents the analysis of the problems in functioning electronic services of public administration. The article describes the possibility of using system logs to analyze the processes related to the implementation of e-services. Special attention in the article is paid to the possibility of process mining methods and tools.

Improving the quality of process management in the higher education institutions becomes a necessity. This raises the need to improve customer satisfaction and performance study programmes for students and graduates, and also entrepreneurs. The paper discusses the issues concerning the main areas of universities activities, and in detail the development process. Furthermore, international practice to management in higher education institutions will be presented.
