Jan Stefan Wydżga (c. 1610–1685) maintained close contacts with Zachariasz Janusz Szolc, a Warmian canon with whom he was linked not only by his affinity but also by many years of cooperation and friendship. Traces of the affinity between the two dignitaries can be found in correspondence housed in the Archives of the Archdiocese of Warmia in Olsztyn, in which Wydżga describes his everyday problems with episcopal administration, his health, and experiences associated with political activity. From this correspondence we learn about the many interesting matters of the Sejm at the time, the relationship between the monarchy and Bishop Wydżga, the possibilities of travelling during the period of his function (he held the office of bishop in 1659–1679) and the culinary preferences of the time.

Opis:
The fresco painted by Giotto Bondone showing the Renunciation of Worldly Goods by St. Francis undoubtedly arouses aesthetic and spiritual feelings. Nevertheless, the scene presented by Giotto also bears some legal characteristics. Thus, it may become a subject of some interesting discussions in the legal sense. First of all, its convention resembles to some extent a dispute before court where the parties and a judge take part in the proceedings. The characters presented, particularly father, son and the bishop, indirectly refer to such important legal institutions as patria potestas and audientia episcopalis. The subject of the dispute is also significant. In the analyzed scene, it relates to the inheritance of property rights and a demand to be obedient to the paternal authority. The relationship between the secular and spiritual power also constitutes a certain problem. Moreover, the issue of divine and human justice is raised. Therefore, the fresco of the Italian master bearing an artistic value might become a subject of a legal reflection and in this way fit the suggested approach: art in the law and law in the art .

Przedmiotem artykułu jest problematyka aspektu liturgicznego kanonicznej wizytacji biskupiej w parafii. Za cel opracowania postawiono ukazanie i wyjaśnienie na podstawie określonych przepisów, różnego rodzaju celebracji liturgicznych realizowanych w czasie wizytacji. Tak określone zamierzenie badawcze zrealizowano poprzez opis i gruntowną analizę obowiązujących przepisów i tekstów Magisterium kościelnego. Analiza wymienionych źródeł pozwoliła na sformułowanie kilku głównych wniosków. Po pierwsze wskazano, że wizyta duszpasterska jest jednym z najważniejszych wyrazów zaangażowania biskupa diecezjalnego w służbę powierzonemu mu ludowi Bożemu. Po drugie ukazano udzielanie sakramentów przez biskupa, a po trzecie, przedstawiono problematykę celebracji pozasakramentalnych form kultu Bożego.
The subject of this article is the problem of the liturgical aspect of a bishop's canonical visitation in a parish. The aim of the study was to show and explain, on the basis of specific provisions, the various liturgical celebrations performed during the visitation. This research was realised through a description and a thorough analysis of the current regulations and texts of the Church Magisterium. The analysis of the above-mentioned sources allowed several main conclusions to be drawn. Firstly, it was pointed out that pastoral visitation is one of the most important expressions of the diocesan bishop's commitment to serve the people of God entrusted to him. Secondly, the administration of the sacraments by the bishop is shown, and thirdly, the issue of the celebration of non-sacramental forms of divine worship is presented.

This article presents the library of the theological seminary in canonical terms. The library of the seminary is an institution which collects, processes and offers readers the collections owned by the seminary. The first part of this article shows the necessity for the seminary library. It then describes the collection of the seminary library, which should contain primarily works in the field of Christian philosophy, psychology, theological sciences and materials necessary for learning foreign languages. It is emphasized that the seminary library is not only a book collection, but also the entire infrastructure, the aim of which is to serve the functioning of the library. The paper also presents those people who are in charge of the seminary library: a diocesan bishop, the rector of the seminary and a librarian, as well as other library staff, both full-time ones and volunteers.

People who suffer from coeliac disease cannot receive Holy Communion under the species of bread.The article starts with explaining the characteristics and phenomenon of coeliac disease. Then it discusses the possibility of receiving Holy Communion by people with the condition. This article aims to present the diocesan catechetical office and its tasks. In the first part, the history of the creation of the diocesan catechetical office is depicted. The second part highlights an obligation to appoint a diocesan catechetical department, and the third part is dedicated to the tasks of such an institution.

The article attempts to present the issue of legal possibilities concerning munus sanctificandi, granted to diocesan bishops by the Code of Canon Law of 1983. Sanctification is one of the main tasks diocesan bishops are faced with. The Code, then, declares that “the bishops in the first place exercise the sanctifying function; they are the high priests, the principal dispensers of the mysteries of God, and the directors, promoters, and guardians of the entire liturgical life in the Church entrusted to them” (Canon 835 § 1). The brief introduction to the first part is followed by a description of the areas of the sanctifying function of the Church – areas which the diocesan bishop is obliged to regulate. The considerations in this article focus on the following issues (to be canonically regulated by the diocesan): regulations in liturgy matters, appropriate celebration and admission to the Sacraments, liturgic functions of the laity, communicatio in sacris), Holy Sacraments, extrasacramental acts of God’s cult, as well as holy places and festivals. The above legislative competences can be realized both at a synod and elsewhere.

Niniejszy artykuł podejmuje kwestię kwalifikacji rektora wyższego seminarium duchownego w aspekcie kanonicznym. Najpierw ogólnie ukazano przepisy mówiące o zdatności do pełnienia urzędu rektora seminarium. Następnie skoncentrowano się na problematyce przymiotów ludzkich rektora seminarium. Z kolei przedstawiono walory duchowe rektora. Wreszcie skupiono się na zaletach naukowych i praktycznych kapłana pełniącego tę funkcję.
The article discusses the issue of qualifications of the rector of the major seminary in the canonical context. First, in general terms, it outlines the rules specifying the capabilities which are necessary to hold the office of the rector of the major seminary. Next it focuses on the question of human attributes of the rector of the major seminary. It also enumerates the spiritual virtues of the rector. Finally it describes the scholarly and practical qualities of the mentioned priest.

The following article is devoted to the organisation of cathesis in the diocese. Firstly, the diocesan Bishop's office is presented, who is the first catechist and is the person who organises teaching in his diocese. Next, the diocesan curia is discussed, which is the tool for helping the diocesan Bishop in organising the catechesis. The Catechetical Office, which should be set up in every diecese, is particularly emphasised. The final part of the submission is connected with the organisation of the catechists' education.

The aim of the article is to present the practice of placing sacred images in churches. The first part presents the view of the Church towards the cult of sacred images. The second part shows the necessity and purpose of placing sacred images in churches, while the third part is devoted to the rules of placing sacred images in churches.
Celem artykułu jest ukazanie zagadnienia praktyki umieszczania w kościołach świętych obrazów. W pierwszej części przedstawiono stanowisko Kościoła wobec kultu świętych obrazów. W części drugiej ukazano konieczność i cel umieszczania w kościołach świętych obrazów, natomiast część trzecia została poświęcona zasadom umieszczania w kościołach świętych obrazów.
