Opis:
Autism is a disorder involving a number of symptoms. It is included in the overall development disorders. The disease is characterized by spreading and progressive behavioural disorders, usually manifesting in early childhood and continuing also through adulthood. Epidemiological data emphasize the importance of the problem and the need to develop studies using modern molecular methods and next-generation sequencing techniques. and in the 1990’s – 10–20 per 10,000. Latest indexes show that child autism and Asperger syndrome affect 1 in 38 children. Recently, there has been published a detailed study on the intestinal microflora in children with autism, showing differences in the spectrum of microorganisms in sick and healthy children. One of the most striking discoveries is the fact that functions of the intestinal microflora and functions of the brain are connected. Therefore, it is possible that microbiome may influence a person’s behaviour and mental health. In the past, the impact of intestinal microflora on the development of autism was ignored, but today it is important. Digestive tract disorders occurring in children with autism can have various natures and locations. As of now, a single autism-specific digestive tract pathology cannot be claimed to exist. As in elimination diets, treatment should be conducted on an individual basis.

The purpose of this article is to describe and evaluate the effectiveness of selected educational and therapeutic interventions. The analyzes were carried out on the basis of the research method defined as a case study, where “human research is a pretext to show the problem; the study of the problem is a pretext to speak about a man”. In accordance with the convention of qualitative research, the experience of the researcher as a co-occurring, acting and experiencing person of the studied phenomenon was taken into account. The article presents and assesses the following forms of therapeutic and educational interactions: pedagogical, psychological, neurological therapy, sensory and musical integration, aquatherapy, hippotherapy, felinotherapy, and Tomatis auditory training therapy. The description of the observations made refers to the perspective of the parent - educator, cooperating with the observed child, his teachers and therapists, and includes observations on the reactions and changes in the child’s behavior occurring in connection with the forms of support used. The article ends with proposals for educational and community support for parents and caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorders.

Introduction. The purpose of this study is to examine the nature and context of parent perspectives of physical activity for their children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Methods. In the study, one of the qualitative research methods, semi-structured interview technique was used as the research design phenomenology method. In addition to demographic information form, participants were asked about the factors that facilitate or constraints their children's participation in physical activity and the benefits of physical activity. Criterion sampling, one of the purposive sampling methods, was used in the study. The study group consisted of 11 parents whose ages ranged from 37 to 55 years (Mage = 44.09, SD = 6.59) and children participated to physical activity rehabilitation program which was carried out by a special education and rehabilitation center. Thematic analysis method was used for data analysis. Results. Three themes being constraints in physical activity, facilitators in physical activity and benefits of physical activity were reported. In the study, most frequently reported constraints were intrapersonal and the most commonly reported facilitator was also intrapersonal. Parents' opinions suggest that interpersonal factors and structural factors are important for special education students with ASD to continue their participation in physical activity. Conclusion. As a result, it is seen that the parents of individuals with ASD encounter some constraints in directing their children to physical activity, however due to the benefits obtained despite these constraints, their children continue to participate in physical activity.

Opis:
Young people living with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have less access to sports and physical activity. Even when they do, the instructors do not always have the training to include them adequately. This study aimed to identify barriers that young people with ASD may face and strategies to overcome these barriers. In order to meet the objectives of the study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with young people, parents, and caregivers. Then, a qualitative analysis of the interviews has allowed the identification of three types of barriers: related to ASD, related to the physical and social environments, and related to the physical activity itself. Three categories of coping strategies have also been identified by the participants. In order to help reduce the barriers, one should focus on the social environment, the activity, and communication strategies. This study confirms previous research and shows that there are effective ways to intervene with young people living with ASD in order to optimize their integration in sports and physical activity and that it can be done with little resources.

Opis:
Individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), the fastest growing disability group, exhibit varying degrees of intellectual ability. Students with ASD are increasingly held accountable to academic standards comparable to their peers. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is widely considered best practice for supporting these students. Twenty-six single-case design (SCD) mathematics classroom teaching interventions, conducted with students diagnosed with ASD, were systematically located and reviewed in detail. Most interventions were conducted in special education mathematics classrooms involving low ability students. Interventions typically targeted simple mathematics skills, and a paucity of research addressing more complex mathematical skills was noted. Elsewhere in the literature, teachers who have students with ASD in their classrooms reported having received no autism training, and described subsequent stress and potential to burn-out as a result. A need for future research with high ability mathematics students is observed, and the relevance of a values paradigm approach is proposed.

Opis:
Gluten is a widely used ingredient which causes viscosity and elasticity of the dough. The toxic effects of gluten found in humans are mainly based on immune reactions. Celiac disease is the most common gluten-dependent disease based on these reactions. One of the commonly used methods of diagnosis of celiac disease is a gluten provocation. Autism is becoming more and more recognized readily form of disability diagnosed in children. It is suggested that this impairment affects 1 in 68 children and is one of the five most common disability in the world. Autism spectrum disorders increasingly focuses scientific interest and raises discussions. Until now, autism often has been considered as a disease and autistic people are wrongly judged as geeks locked in their own world. On the Internet and the social media can be found films showing examples of people behavior affected by this disorder. There are various forums where parents and caregivers of people with autism exchange experiences about diet and treatments described as the "miracle cure". Immediately after the diagnosis of autism parents often decide to introduce their children a variety of diets, including gluten-free diet. They often live in the strong stress and alone in their efforts, and also they are almost deprived of specialist medical care. So the diet is often a selection of desperate parent or guardian, not a treatment supported by medical facts.

Opis:
Cortisol is a hormone crucial for homeostasis of the human organism. Many researchers proved the role of cortisol and its normal release rhythm in healthy individuals. It led to further investigations of the abnormalities in cortisol levels in those affected by various disorders , especially with neuropsychiatric symptoms. Autism spectrum disorder is one of these conditions which have been intensively researched due to its core and secondary symptoms. We conducted a systematic review of articles in PubMed, including papers that met the search criteria “autism” and “cortisol”. After initial selection of relevant papers, we analyzed data from 56 articles. We divided data into subcategories of studies concerning cortisol diurnal profile, basal cortisol levels, Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR) and cortisol levels in reaction to certain stimuli. Data was unequivocal, however, abnormal diurnal profile, basal level, CAR or stressor response were found in many research groups. It led to suspicion that the abnormalities of cortisol release are a widely-spread phenomenon among individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Very limited data from therapeutic interventions indicated more clinical than biological response. This systematic review should be a drive to action for further randomized clinical trial on larger, homogenous group of patients to obtain more thorough insight into the role of cortisol in autism spectrum disorder.

Purpose: To assess the health-related quality of life (HRQL) in parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Materials and methods: The sample consisted of 83 families with children with ASD, including 30 families from Poland, 25 from Belarus, and 28 from France. Parental HRQL was surveyed with the World Health Organization Quality of Life–BREF (WHOQOL–BREF) and KINDLR questionnaires. Results: This study showed that Polish parents reported the lowest quality of life according to the WHOQOL–BREF. Parents from Belarus reported slightly worse HRQL than parents from France, though other aspects of quality of life (e.g, social sphere, somatic sphere) did not differ significantly between these parents. Parents from Poland also reported lower HQOL according to the KINDLR questionnaire, while parents from Belarus had a higher HQRL in the mental, physical, and self-esteem domains compared to parents from Poland and France. Conclusion: Parents from Poland with children with ASD reported lower HRQL both on the WHOQOL–BREF and KINDL R questionnaires compared to parents from Belarus and France.
