The article offers a reading of Jan Józef Szczepański’s Koniec westernu (focusing on its sub-chapter Rewolucja dzieciaków) in the light of postcolonial theory. Having himself experienced political oppression in Polish People’s Republic, Szczepański developed a type of postcolonial sensibility, which gave him a unique perspective on the problems of post-war United States. This context and his biography help to point out particular features of Szczepański’s picture of the hippies who experience social exclusion in the US. They feel alienated from middle-class society which they see as dominated by materialism, and they evolve their own lifestyle.

Sections yielding late Maastrichtian ammonite assemblages are rare in Latin America and precise biostratigraphic correlation with European type sections remains difficult. In all, the extinction pattern of ammonites appears to differ between sites in southern high latitudes and those in the tropics to subtropics. In austral sections of Chile, and possibly also in southern Argentina, diverse assemblages range throughout most of the substage and then show a gradual decline prior to the Cretaceous–Paleogene (K–Pg) boundary. Further north, in northeast Brazil, only two genera (Diplomoceras, Pachydiscus) range into the uppermost Maastrichtian, but disappear within the last 0.3 Ma of the Cretaceous. In tropical sections of Columbia and Mexico, the decline of ammonites started earlier and Sphenodiscus is the last ammonite known to occur in the late Maastrichtian. In all sections revised here the disappearance of ammonites was completed prior to the end of the Maastrichtian and was thus independent of the asteroid impact at, or near, the end of the Cretaceous.

The main objective of the study is to identify, in a broad sense, the changes taking place in the religious sphere in the Latin American region, with particular emphasis on the legal aspects of this phenomenon. The different parts cover separate problem areas which will need to be addressed by the legislators in the near future. This problem is a major research thesis. Interdisciplinarity is justified by the subject of the research undertaken. It remains at the junction of law, political science, sociology and history, as well as the religious studies. The legal and religious relations are presented on the basis of a comparative legal method and a historical-legal method. Despite the clear decrease in the number of people identifying themselves with the Catholic Church, they still constitute the majority in the region. Two tendencies can be noticed: Catholics change religious affiliation, leaving the church in favor of Protestant communities, especially by neo-Pentecostal groups; the number of people who do not identify with any institutional form of religious association increases. The phenomenon of religiosity has changed significantly compared to the last century. More and more people choose beliefs and evaluate them according to subjective criteria. They choose values in spiritual life, without the need to participate in an institutionalized religious organization.
El objetivo principal del estudio es identificar, en un sentido amplio, los cambios que se están produciendo en el ámbito religioso en la región latinoamericana, con especial énfasis en los aspectos legales de este fenómeno. Las diferentes partes cubren áreas problemáticas separadas que deberán ser abordadas por los legisladores en un futuro próximo. Este problema es una importante tesis de investigación. La interdisciplinariedad se justifica por el tema de la investigación realizada, por ende, pertenece a la confluencia del derecho, la ciencia política, la sociología y la historia, así como las ciencias de la religión. Las relaciones jurídicas y religiosas se presentan sobre la base de un método jurídico comparativo y de un método histórico-jurídico. A pesar de la clara disminución en el número de personas que se identifican con la Iglesia católica, aún constituyen la mayoría en la región. Se pueden ver fácilmente dos tendencias: los católicos cambian su afiliación confesional al abandonar la Iglesia a favor de las comunidades protestantes, especialmente por los grupos neopentecostales; aumenta el porcentaje de personas que no se identifican con ninguna forma institucional de una relación religiosa. El fenómeno religioso ha cambiado significativamente en comparación con el siglo pasado. Cada vez más personas eligen creencias y las evalúan según criterios subjetivos, seleccionan valores en la vida espiritual, sin necesidad de mediar en una institución religiosa.

The article discusses several “curiosities of American spirit” on the basis of the volume of essays A View of San Francisco Bay: the duality of Americans (based on hesitation between success and despair), nihilism noticed especially among the representatives of the younger generation, arrangement of spatial hierarchy, tearing America into two hostile camps (pure, noble minds and simple people’s minds), arrogance of one’s own “I” (being the fundamental cause of great achievements in technology and science), dissonance between biblical spirit and technological progress etc. Besides their cognitive value, Miłosz’s essays are also a great lesson of imagology on America perceived by the comparatist’s eyes.

Border and missionary practice are two historical realities that proceed simultaneously in the colonization of the Americas. After analyzing the most recent debate on the liminal issue in the New World, the essay attempts to elucidate, from a descriptive and comparative perspective, the Mexican border missionary framework, thought of as a social, historical and geographical space not yet permanently conquered. Three missionary realities are discussed: Chiapas, the Yaqui region and California.
Frontera y práctica misionera son dos realidades históricas que proceden simultáneamente en la colonización de las Américas. Después de analizar el debate más reciente de la cuestión liminal en el continente americano, el ensayo procura dilucidar, desde una mirada descriptiva y comparativa, el marco misionero fronterizo de México, pensado como espacio social, histórico y geográfico todavía no conquistado de manera permanente. Se tratan tres realidades misioneras: Chiapas, la región yaqui y California.

In recent decades, women have gained previously unthinkable spaces, becoming an important actor both in public and private sphere. South America has witnessed the arrival of women to the presidency of Chile, Brazil and Argentina, all through the popular mandate. Today these women are no longer in power. But it is necessary to ask: How did it impact the power configuration from a gender perspective? The purpose of this work was to identify the incidence of the arrival of women in the presidency on the composition of ministerial portfolios in terms of gender. Does the arrival of a woman to the presidency ensure the opening of spaces for the female collective?
En las últimas décadas la mujer ha ganado espacios antes impensados, transformándose en un actor importante tanto en lo público como en lo privado. América del Sur fue testigo de la llegada de mujeres a las presidencias de Chile, Brasil y Argentina, todas a través del mandato popular. Hoy dichas mujeres ya no están en el poder. Es necesario preguntarse ¿Cómo impactó ello en la configuración de los ministerios desde una perspectiva de género? Con este trabajo se buscó identificar la incidencia de la llegada de las mujeres a la presidencia sobre la composición de las carteras ministeriales en clave de género. ¿La llegada de una mujer a la presidencia asegura la apertura de espacios para el colectivo femenino?

At first sight it appears that Miłosz’s poetry shares many features with modernist and post-modernist poetics. One of its main themes is the impossibility of verifying the veracity of man’s sensual impressions (i.e. their referring to an ‘external’ world), which seems to un-dermine the traditional concept of literature as ‘mimesis’. However, Miłosz expressly reject-ed the postmodernist point of view that literature as ‘mimesis’ is merely a textual effect. Even when the speakers in his poems expressly deny the possibility of recreating the exter-nal world of man’s sense-impressions by means of language, they seem to achieve the very thing they wanted to deny. One of Miłosz’s favourite devices in the poetry of his middle period was the so-called ‘irony of self-betrayal’. But this negative way of affirming the cove-nant between the self and the world did not satisfy him in the long run. Wishing to over-come the antinomies of mimesis he attempted to work out a poetical strategy allowing him to describe the astonishing richness of being more directly. This strategy required a meta-physical justification. The veracity of man’s sensual and intellectual involvement with the world turned out to be rooted in the religious perspective of ‘apokatastasis’. ‘Time past’ and ‘time present’ are one in a process that both redeems and transcends time, without annihilat-ing the moments of which it consists. Miłosz’s long poems of the sixties and seventies should therefore not be simply understood as ‘literature’ or independent ‘works of art’ (poésie pure) that could be separated from other forms of being. In fact they are part of a process of redemption that occurs ‘here and now’, although it remains unclear when it will be completed. For that reason Miłosz’s longer poems should be read as ‘open texts’ or – but in a sense opposite to the postmodernist idea of ‘unfinishedness’ – ‘work in progress’. They purport to present the manifold phenomena of a man’s existential autobiography simultaneously.

Latin America became one of the epicentresof the pandemic due to the Sars-Cov-2 virus. One of the serious problems faced by Latin American populations is forced migration, which, like everything that concerns vulnerable populations, has increased in the pandemic. The cases of Central America and Mexico, a country considered one of the largest human corridors in the world, reached unthinkable levels of human rights violations, demonstrate this. This article addresses the political and socioeconomic effects of the pandemic resulting from the Sars-Cov-2 virus (COVID-19) in Latin America. Likewise, we will present, through the press and the reports of civil society organizations, how, in the middle of the pandemic, the criminalization and blaming of migrants in the speeches of the American government agencies was accentuated.

The article examines a philosophy of studying America practiced for over five centuries. Following the ideas of Fernand Braudel, this work intends to present the evolution of studying (or knowing) America with partly structuralistic and partly functionalistic focus, which leads towards multifaceted interpretations of Amer-ican reality.
El artículo trata de una filosofía del conocer de América practicado durante más de cinco siglos. Siguiendo las ideas de Fernand Braudel, se propone ver la evolución del conocimiento (o el saber) sobre América mediante un enfoque, en parte es-tructuralista, en parte funcionalista, que llevaría a las interpretaciones pluriangulares de América.

El mayor reto de la contemporaneidad para el crecimiento económico es el calentamiento glo-bal, ya que plantea históricamente una relación negativa: a mayor crecimiento, mayor calenta-miento global. Por ello nos planteamos como objetivo de investigación analizar cómo afecta el cambio climático a la agenda de desarrollo contemporánea, con especial énfasis en América Latina. En el artículo se afirma que el cambio climático tiene fundamentales repercusiones en lo ético, porque el desarrollo debe ser armonioso con los ecosistemas y responsable con las futuras generaciones; en lo político, ya que la gestión sustentable de los ecosistemas pasa por una democratización de la agenda de desarrollo; y en lo técnico, se plantea una oportunidad histórica para construir una relación positiva entre el crecimiento económico y la sustentabili-dad de los ecosistemas.
The biggest challenge of contemporaneity for economic growth is global warming because it historically raises a negative relationship, greater growth, greater global warming. Therefore, we set out as a research objective to analyze how climate change affects the contemporary de-velopment agenda, with special emphasis on Latin America. The article states that climate change has a fundamental impact on the ethically because development must be harmonious with ecosystems and responsible with future generations, politically, since the sustainable management of ecosystems requires democratization of the development agenda, and the tech-nical aspect raises a historical opportunity to build a positive relationship between economic growth and the sustainability of ecosystems.

The form assumed contemporarily by spatial organization in South and Central America as a network of nodes and spatial linkages represents the outcome for the space of this region of long-acting external influences plus internal conditions that have - at diferent times in diferent ways shaped spatial relationships and the manner in which space in this part of the world is planned. Naturally, the spatial structure of today's economy is influenced further by globalization, with growing competition for access to resources, be these either mineral deposits or agricultural in nature. These impacts ensure that, notwithstanding the widely-voiced opinion on the need to protect nature in areas of the continent supporting moist tropical forests, and in the high Andes, the governments of the diferent countries continue to award concessions allowing corporations of global reach to exploit resources of value that are in demand worldwide. This aggressive “resources race” has its serious consequences with regard to the forms and scope the region's spatial management and organization assume. These processes ought to be regulated by spatial planning, which is thus failing to play its proper role at regional levels. Those researching South America refer without hesitation to the lack of planning and overexploitation of raw materials, with all the serious consequences this has for society, not least with regard to internal migration, expulsions, the impoverishment of groups in society deprived of their land, and so on.
