Opis:: Contemporary military conflicts are unpredictable in reference to time, place, and scale. Therefore, they require the use of modern weapon systems and platforms capable of carrying them, but above of all systems that are capable of recognizing risks and managing active counter measures. The E-3 AWACS aircraft is the platform fulfill the requirements. The article describes the organizational structure responsible for the operation of AWACS system as well as the E-3 aircraft. The paper presents the possibilities of its use in support of the Polish Air Force operations.

Opis:: Właściwe pojmowanie zagrożeń i ich źródeł w sensie defi nicyjnym jest istotne, aby prawidłowo stosować te pojęcia w sferze bezpieczeństwa w różnych sektorach i systemach. Autor proponuje rozumienie tych pojęć według ściśle określonego paradygmatu, polegającego na wyodrębnieniu nieabstrakcyjnych źródeł zagrożeń, z których liniowo wynikają różne zagrożenia. Należy więc postrzegać zagrożenia jako zdarzenia niekorzystne, które wynikają z konkretnych źródeł. Słuszność postulowanych koncepcji autor testuje na przykładzie bezpieczeństwa operacji lotniczych w lotnictwie ogólnym.
Proper understanding of threats and their sources in the defi nitional sense is important to correctly apply these concepts in the sphere of safety in various sectors and systems. The author proposes to understand these concepts according to a strictly defi ned paradigm, consisting in the separation of not abstract sources of threats, which linearly result in various threats. Therefore, threats should be perceived as unfavorable events that result from specifi c sources. The author tests the correctness of the postulated concepts on the example of the safety of air operations in general aviation.

Opis:: Many European airports are located in close proximity to residential or protected areas. Aircraft noise emissions caused by the landing and taking off of aircraft are a big problem in these areas. From an operational point of view, the method for reducing noise is to reduce traffic volume or change its organization, especially during the night. Some procedures and tools have been developed to support air traffic management in the implementation of operational constraints necessary to maintain noise at an acceptable level. The objective of this paper is to analyse the effectiveness of these tools. For this purpose, we have analysed existing methods of operational noise reduction, taking into account their influence on the structure, smoothness, punctuality and, especially, the safety of air traffic. As a result, existing risks have been identified, while methods have been proposed to combine two important air traffic service tasks: ensuring safety, while taking into account the environmental constraints, especially in relation to the acoustic climate.
