Opis:: Artykuł koncentruje się na analizie korzyści i zagrożeń związanych ze stosowaniem zasad scrum w środowisku pracy zdalnej. Postawiony problem badawczy odnosi się do oceny pracy zdalnej w projektach realizowanych przy wykorzystaniu metodyki scrum. W toku rozważań zdefiniowano cztery główne pytania badawcze, dotyczące wydajności pracy zdalnej w scrum, stopnia skomplikowania prowadzonych w ten sposób projektów oraz dostrzeganych przez respondentów korzyści i zagrożeń wynikających z realizacji projektów zgodnie z metodyką scrum w porównaniu z pracą zdalną. W badaniu posłużono się metodą ankietową i zastosowano technikę ankiety internetowej. Dobór respondentów do badań był celowy ze względu na ich miejsce zatrudnienia – branża IT. Praca zdalna przy realizacji projektów informatycznych niesie ze sobą według respondentów wymierne korzyści w postaci komunikacji asynchronicznej, lepszej wydajności oraz zwiększonej odpowiedzialności za wykonywaną pracę. Z kolei największe zagrożenie to liczba i długość spotkań.
in a remote work environment. The research problem concerns the assessment of remote work in projects conducted using the Scrum methodology. Four main research questions were asked regarding the effectiveness of remote work in Scrum, the complexity of projects conducted in this way, and the benefits and threats of implementing projects using the Scrum methodology and remote work noticed by the respondents. The survey method was chosen as the research method and the online survey technique was used. The selection of respondents for the research was purposeful due to their place of employment, i.e. the IT industry. According to the respondents, remote work while implementing IT projects brings the most important benefits in the form of asynchronous communication, better efficiency, and increased responsibility for the work performed. In turn, the greatest challenge is the number and length of meetings.

Opis:: Agile Project Management is a topic that has become popular both in business and academia, since the publication of the Agile Manifesto - a historic landmark in this subject. In the next 20 years, there was a relevant scientific production that must be analyzed to provoke reflection about the knowledge built up in this period. In this sense, this study aims to analyze the relevant scientific literature on Agile Project Management through a systematic review and a bibliometric analysis of articles published in scientific journals with Digital Object Identifier, in English, from the Web of Science and Scopus databases, from 2001 to 2021. The research results enable us to gain insights into the characteristics of this knowledge domain, regarding its volume and evolutionary trend, main contributors (i.e. scientific journals, authors, and their affiliations), main studies, methods used, and its central thematic axes.

Opis:: Celem badania jest empiryczne rozpoznanie sposobu funkcjonowania biur zarządzania projektami (ang. PMO) w organizacjach stosujących podejście zwinne. W części środowiska zarządzania projektami panuje przekonanie, że PMO powstające zwykle w organizacjach „tradycyjnych” (command and control) nie przystaje do tzw. zwinnego myślenia (ang. agile mindset). Przykłady liderów gospodarczych pokazują jednak, że po dopasowaniu do nowych warunków, biura utrzymują swoją funkcję, a wręcz stają się zwornikiem nowego, bardziej elastycznego systemu organizacji i zarządzania. W obszarze tym istnieje istotna luka wiedzy, która na bazie uważnego rozpoznania autorów nie znajduje nadal dostatecznego zaspokojenia w dostępnych zasobach wiedzy naukowej, ani źródłach popularnych. W badaniu przyjęto strategię badawczą opartą na metodzie wywiadów ustrukturyzowanych, za pomocą których zgromadzono materiał opisujący łącznie 6 przypadków. Następnie materiał ten poddano analizie. W rezultacie nie udało się wykazać istotnych różnic w funkcjonowaniu biura projektów między środowiskiem zwinnym i tradycyjnym. Respondenci nie dostrzegli również zagrożenia dla działania PMO w mniej sformalizowanym zwinnym środowisku.
The aim of the study is empirical recognition of the functioning of project management offices (PMOs) in organizations using the agile approach project management. In some project management circles, there is a belief that PMOs typically formed in ‘traditional’ (command and control) organizations are not compatible with the so-called agile mindset. However, examples of business leaders show that, after adapting to new conditions, PMOs maintain their function and even become a pivot for a new, more flexible system of organization and management. In this area there is a knowledge gap which has not been addressed sufficiently either in the subject literature or in popular sources so far, according to the authors. The study adopted a research strategy based on the method of structured interviews through which material describing a total of 6 cases was gathered. Subsequently, this material underwent analysis. As a result, it was not possible to demonstrate significant differences in the functioning of the project office between agile and traditional environments. The respondents also did not perceive any threats to the PMO’s operation in a less formalized agile environment.

Opis:: An attempt has been made to propose a new approach to media management. Its starting point is the similarity of the main media and its management features, with some elements of agile methodologies. The approach mentioned in the article would eradicate all of the documentation, and make media management as genuine and effective as possible. The proposal within the article is not yet created as a methodology because the aim of this publication was to show the current possibilities in creating such foundations for the future possible methodology implemented inside the media management scheme. The invitation of all specialists in the field of project management, Agile, and traditional project management approaches would be greatly appreciated. The need of an in-depth analysis of how an agile approach can be applied in such a relatively young industry is still plausible. In sum, there are numerous agile tools that can be adopted in media management. The first proposal of media management has been already published by independent researchers, yet this work should be done primarily in the form of more detailfocused and thorough analysis.
Artykuł dotyczy zarządzania mediami, dlatego odpowiednio zaprezentowano próbę możliwego podejścia opartego na zwinnych metodologiach zarządzania projektami. Artykuł przedstawia kolejno media i zarządzanie nimi (przegląd literatury), charakterystykę projektów medialnych, zwinne zarządzanie projektami, analizę zwinnego podejścia i zarządzania mediami wraz z propozycją nowego pomysłu, jakim jest zwinne zarządzanie mediami (Agile Media Management) oraz wnioski. Poniższe wyniki podkreślają istotną potrzebę przyjrzenia się tej idei w ramach ważnego badania empirycznego oraz dalszego kierunku badań.

Opis:: Purpose: The construction industry has one of the most important roles in any countries economy, despite of that, construction projects remain under the spotlight when compared to other industries projects due to its special nature and scope, with their increase of complexity which by default increases the amount of changes occurring therefore rising the risks of low performance, which is already an issue in the sector, construction management is facing more challenges than ever, this research paper was carried out in order to provide possible alternatives for the traditional way of managing construction projects. Design/Methodology/Approach: A literature review was carried out exploring the necessities of implementing agile management in the field in order to coop with the increasing complexity and uncertainty of construction projects therefore increasing the overall performance, alongside identifying the potentials and limitations of such an approach. Findings: As a result it was found that a tailored approach could be the answer to improve the whole sector and bring it up to date, using an integration of various methods of lean and agile management with traditional waterfall method, the agile management tools do show promising potential for the dynamic project nature which shows the importance of such an implementation. Originality/Value: This paper provides cognitive scientific value by adding needed knowledge in a relatively immature research area for the practical development of one of the largest industries.

Opis:: The increasing complexity of tasks performed by enterprises requires the implementation of a modern approach to enterprise management. Competition and the dynamics of the business environment drives the search for new forms of cooperation, operating costs reduction, and implementation of new management methods. Project management meets these requirements, by accelerating the processes of implementing new strategies and making it possible to stay ahead of the competition in the volatile area of new products and services. The goal of the article was to present the elements of agile project management methodologies that can be used during the implementation of railway transport projects, so far implemented on the basis of traditional project management methodologies. The article presents recommendations based on the results of research conducted in May and June of 2021 among members of project teams implementing rolling stock projects co-financed from public funds. The obtained research results made it possible to identify elements of agile project management methodologies that could be successfully implemented during the implementation of transport projects related to superstructure.
Wzrost złożoności zadań realizowanych przez przedsiębiorstwa wymaga wdrażania nowoczesnego podejścia do zarządzania przedsiębiorstwem. Konkurencja, dynamika otoczenia biznesowego wymusza poszukiwanie nowych form współpracy, obniżanie kosztów działalności, wdrażanie nowych metod zarządzania. Naprzeciw tym wymaganiom wychodzi zarządzanie projektami, przyspieszając procesy wdrażania nowych strategii i umożliwiając wyprzedzenie konkurencji w obszarze nowych produktów i usług. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie elementów zwinnych metodyk zarządzania projektami, które można zastosować podczas realizacji transportowych projektów kolejowych, dotychczas realizowanych w oparciu o tradycyjne metodyki zarządzania projektami. W artykule przedstawiono rekomendacje opracowane w oparciu o wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w okresie maja i czerwca 2021 r. pośród członków zespołów projektowych realizujących projekty dotyczące taboru, współfinansowane ze środków publicznych. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań umożliwiły wskazanie elementów zwinnych metodyk zarządzania projektami, które można z powodzeniem zaimplementować podczas realizacji projektów transportowych dotyczących suprastruktury.

Opis:: Purpose: The aim of the article is to analyse the risk management process in IT projects managed using the agile methods. Design/methodology/approach: The research was conducted through in-depth structured interviews on a sample of 111 project managers, leaders and project team members. Findings: In the conducted research, attention was paid to the identification of risk factors, their assessment during project planning, management of key risk factors and the importance of risk analysis for project success. The test results were compared with a critical analysis of the literature on the subject of research. Originality/value: The results of a survey of company heads become input information for the analysis, which allowed to confirm theoretical knowledge with the practical experience of company heads and emphasize the importance of the human factor in the risk management.

Opis:: Purpose: The aim of this article is to present the results of research aimed at identifying the most frequent risk factors of IT projects managed using the agile approach to project management. Design/methodology/approach: The research was conducted by means of in-depth structured interviews, on a sample of 111 project managers, leaders and project team members. The research included identification of risk factors and their assessment during project planning, as well as the most frequent risk factors in an agile-managed project. Findings: While carrying out a critical analysis of the literature, it can be observed that in the majority of publications concerning risk in projects managed in the agile way, the human factor is strongly underestimated, often excessively favouring procedures. However, when analysing the risk factors arising in IT projects managed in the agile way, except for the technology, equipment, system, or even the project schedule and cost, the project team is strongly accentuated. Research limitations/implications: The article presented recommendations to conduct supplementary research concerning the assessment of risk factors directly resulting from the specific nature of IT projects and the application of agile methodology to project management in terms of project team work organisation as well as potential project stakeholder groups. Originality/value: Software companies are one of the typical industries in which project management and the concept of teamwork are applied and the functioning of these teams is the dominant form of work organisation.

Opis:: Przedmiot badań: Przedmiotem zainteresowania jest obszar zarządzania projektami przez parki naukowo-technologiczne w Polsce, w tym finansowanymi ze środków publicznych. Parki dotychczas były badane raczej w kontekście uwarunkowań historycznych ich funkcjonowania, charakterystyki i efektywności świadczonych usług oraz w aspekcie makroekonomicznym w szczególności w połączeniu z oceną wpływu interwencji publicznej środkami finansowymi UE, aniżeli w obszarze zarządzania projektami i odpowiadających im metodyk. W artykule dokonano analizy pojęciowej i funkcjonalnej parków jako instytucji otoczenia biznesu. Zaprezentowano wyniki badań empirycznych dotyczących identyfikacji stosowanych w parkach metodyk zarządzania projektami. Wskazano trzy modele służące do oceny organizacji pod kątem doboru optymalnej metodyki zarządzania projektami. Rezultaty badań mogą okazać się przydatne dla praktyki zarządzania projektami przez parki stanowiące element systemu innowacji w polityce rozwoju regionalnego w procesie dalszej ich profesjonalizacji. Cel badawczy: Przedstawienie dominującej metodyki zarządzania projektami w parkach naukowo-technologicznych stanowiących ośrodki innowacji w Polsce, a także wyjaśnienie wpływu na sposób zarządzania projektami (zmianą) w organizacji takich parametrów, jak kultura organizacyjna, zespoły oraz rodzaj projektów. Istotnym zagadnieniem wydaje się kwestia, w jaki sposób i jakim zestandaryzowanym narzędziem, bez względu na indywidualne cechy organizacji, można badać przyjęte w parkach metodyki i podejścia do zarządzania projektami wpływające na skuteczność i efektywność funkcjonowania całej organizacji. 1 Metoda badawcza: Własne badania ankietowe przeprowadzone metodą CAWI z kadrą kierowniczą parków objętych próbą badawczą z wykorzystaniem narzędzia Agile Suitability Filter Tools określonego w PMBoK® Guide 2017 badającego potencjał organizacji w trzech aspektach: kultura (struktura) – zespół (ludzie) – projekty. Zastosowano także analizę materiałów źródłowych, w tym porównawczą przepisów prawnych odnoszących się do parków i źródeł finansowania projektów. Wyniki: W parkach przeważa zwinne (agile) podejście do zarządzania projektami. Jednakże ze względu na specyfikę parków jako organizacji typu not-for-profit oraz na realizowane przez nie projekty, źródła i zasady ich finansowania postuluje się dostosowanie metodyki zarządzania projektami do odpowiednich rodzajów projektów, wewnętrznych możliwości organizacji oraz warunków określonych przez jej otoczenie zewnętrzne, w tym instytucje UE, krajowe lub regionalne dofinansowujące projekty ze środków publicznych.
Background: The research is focused on the project management process in the science and technology parks (STP) in Poland, including projects financed by public funds. STP have so far been described in the context of historical conditions of their activity, features, and efficiency of the services they provide, as well as in the macroeconomic aspect, particularly in connection with the assessment of the impact of public intervention by EU funds, rather than in the area of project management and their appropriate methodologies. A conceptual and functional analysis of STP as business supporting institutions was performed. The results of the author’s empirical research on identification of project management methodologies used in STP were presented. Three models concerning the methods of organizational evaluation in relation to the selection of the appropriate project management methodology were pointed out. Research results may prove useful for the practice of project management into the STP that are a part of the innovation system in regional development policy and to make them more professional. Research purpose: The aim of this paper is to present the dominant methodology of project management in STP that belong to the innovation centres in Poland, as well as to clarify the impact of the following factors on changing the organizational management structure: organizational culture, teams, and types of projects undertaken. An important issue seems to be how and with what standardized tool, regardless of the individual features of the organization, is used to examine the project management methodologies and approaches implemented in the STP, affecting the effectiveness and efficiency of the whole organization. Methods: The survey carried out on the basis of CAWI with CEOs of the STP as a research sample using the Agile Suitability Filter Tools specified in the PMBoK® Guide 2017 that examine the capability of organizations in their three aspects: culture (structure) – team (people) – projects. An analysis of reference materials and documentation was also applied, including comparative analysis of legal provisions relating to STP and project financing sources. Conclusions: The agile project management approach is predominant in STP. However, the specificity of STP as a not-for-profit organization and the projects they implement specially determines their rules and sources of funding for projects. As such, it is postulated that the project management methodology should be adapted, both to the appropriate types of projects, internal capabilities of the organization as well as the conditions determined by its external environment, including the principles for implementation of projects co-financed by EU, national or regional bodies from public contribution as well.

Opis:: Purpose: In recent years more and more agile methods of software production have been used in information projects (IT projects). Apart from some common features with other measures, IT projects have their own specificity which should be considered prior to the choice of the Traditional Project Management (TPM) or Agile Project Management (APM) for management of a particular project. Owing to the specificity of the implemented projects the approach presented in agile methods is more and more frequently chosen and preferred both by the solutions providers and the clients. Furthermore, the use of one of the traditional or agile methods should be preceded by analysis of various types of conditions of the sector in which the public administration entity is functioning. Legal conditions, organizational and decision-making culture, project financing methods and maturity of teams and the whole organisation in the project management area, affect not only the choice of methods but also the final success of the project. The multicriterial analysis of limitations in information projects implementation in the public sector allowed identification of the most important recommendations within necessary changes. The article points out that agile methods will not entirely replace the traditional management of IT projects in the public sector, with the most effective approach being their harmonious coexistence. Design/methodology/approach: The recommendation to use the TPM and APM approaches in Polish public administration entities was preceded by analysis of the most important legal acts for this purpose and comparison of the position of our country (or cluster to which Poland is qualified) in the acknowledged European study from the cycle of eGovernment Benchmark dating back to the years 2004-2018. Recommendations for implementation of IT projects in the public sector were supported by analysis of CHAOS reports dating back to 2012-2018 and 11th, 12th and 13th Annual State of Agile Reports respectively from 2016, 2017 and 2018. The article does not treat separately each of the best known methodologies and methodologies of confirmed effectiveness, but considers the shared philosophy of traditional or agile approach. Findings: The development of e-government proceeds due to the implementation – from the private sector – of the form of management through the development of projects. Analysis of the position of the Polish e-government in the eGovernment Benchmark points to a high backwardness of the public sector in Poland as compared to other countries. The backwardness may be made up for through implementation of effective methods of IT project management. However, the choice of an agile method should be preceded by an analysis of specific achievable benefits and conditions which have to be fulfilled as they are necessary to achieve such benefits. The public sector conditions connected with the Public Procurement Law and informal limitations resulting, among other, from organisational and decisive culture will not allow, as for now, to fully use agile methods. Originality/value: The public sector in Poland is the largest but at the same time the most difficult customer of services and products from the ICT sector in Poland. For a large purchaser of the ICT sector solutions the choice of the most effective project management method becomes a significant determinant of the project’s success. In practice, there is no organization or project in which a methodology in its pure form could be used. Therefore, a given methodological approach has to be adjusted to the conditions of the sector in which the organisation is functioning and to a specific project.

Opis:: Artykuł zawiera rozważania na temat roli komunikacji cyfrowej w projektach interdyscyplinarnych. Jego celem jest pokazanie, na bazie doświadczeń interdyscyplinarnych zespołów projektowych, konsekwencji wyboru kanałów i cyfrowych narzędzi komunikacji wpływających na wyniki projektów. W pierwszej części artykułu rozważono wpływ transformacji cyfrowej na zarządzanie projektami. Druga część opisuje kluczowe czynniki sukcesu projektów i potwierdza istotną rolę komunikacji jako jednego z elementów wpływających na osiągnięcie zamierzonych celów. Trzecia sekcja krótko charakteryzuje narzędzia komunikacji zastosowane w dwóch wybranych projektach interdyscyplinarnych: SQUAD i BIM z perspektywy ich koordynatora. This article considers the important role of digital communication in interdisciplinary projects. This paper describes the experience of interdisciplinary project teams and points to the consequences of the choice of communication channels and tools influencing project deliverables within those teams. The first section of this paper considers the influence of digital transformation on project management. The second section describes key project success factors concerning all types of projects and concludes that communication is one of important factors. The third section briefly defines interdisciplinary projects: SQUAD and BIM. This section also describes the communication methods and techniques that were used within these projects. Opis:: Aim/purpose – The research aims to identify and evaluate factors impacting the implementation of an agile approach in a crowdfunding project with a goal to fund a film. Design/methodology/approach – The research was conducted in March-April 2018, and based on qualitative methods of gathering data from the Polish market. Findings – We point to the two groups of factors impacting whether or not a film team can implement the agile approach in a crowdfunding project: 1) the first group of factors refers to the iterative testing of ‘the work produced’ during the project, including testing of final film elements; 2) the second group of factors refers to team management such as team goal, team engagement and communication, and conflicts between team members. The findings indicate that a potential transition to the agile approach would require significant adjustments of the current methods of conducting film projects.

Opis:: New product development (NPD) is a key value creating process in a high-tech startup. This article discusses the relevance of the traditional approaches to NPD and assesses their applicability to a newly founded high-tech-venture. Further, recent concepts to innovative venture creation were reviewed: design thinking, lean startup and agile project management. Based on the analysis an integrated framework for high-tech startup NPD has been proposed. This study is based on an extensive literature review and systematic comparison of the concepts discussed in the current entrepreneurship, new product development and project management literature.
Rozwój nowych produktów (NPD) to kluczowy proces tworzenia wartości w startupach technologicznych. W artykule omówiono znaczenie tradycyjnych podejść do rozwoju nowych produktów i oceniono je pod kątem przydatności dla nowo utworzonych startupów technologicznych. Ponadto dokonano przeglądu innych koncepcji innowacji i tworzenia nowych przedsięwzięć: podejścia projektowego, lean startupu oraz zwinnego zarządzania projektami. Na podstawie analizy zaproponowano zintegrowane podejście do rozwoju nowych produktów, które może mieć zastosowanie w kontekście startupów technologicznych. Artykuł ma charakter przeglądowy i powstał na podstawie analizy oraz systematycznego porównania najnowszych koncepcji dyskutowanych w literaturze przedmiotu. Opracowanie integruje wątki dyskusji z dziedziny przedsiębiorczości, rozwoju nowych produktów i zarządzania projektami.

Opis:: The aim of this paper is to present several selected management concepts that support self-organizing teams. The chosen concepts are agile project management, teal organization, holacracy and sociocracy, and the paper places emphasis on the organizational factors in each of presented concept. Four groups of organizational factors were extracted: culture, structure, management and processes. The value of this paper is that it is a comparison of the extracted groups in the selected concepts. The outcome of this work was the discovery that the organizational culture in each of the concepts was very similar, yet, the structure supporting self-organizing teams may vary in effect, starting from the project, to the whole organization. Still, the management and processes appeared to be very similar in the teal organization, holacracy and sociocracy. Moreover, agile project management was more similar to traditional organizations. The paper emphasizes the need for further research, in particular, in companies which have adopted the presented concepts.

Opis:: In recent years project management has become a complex and diverse field of scientific research. It embodies a number of specific tools and techniques, choice of which to particular project is far from being obvious, especially for the beginners. Such situation rationalizes efforts aiming at the development of methods of training, which are more efficient than the “trial-and-error” approach. In this context the paper presents a web application that simulates real life scenarios and allows for developing skills, among others, in identifying the needed/available resources against the dynamically changing goals. The platform teaches the agile approach to project management with Scrum and gives an opportunity to “materialize” the progress made by users with an original piece of software. The prototype of the web application has been successfully tested at Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University.
