    The paper is on strategizing Technical and Vocational Education towards best global practice for accelerated sustainable development of Nigeria. The paper examines implementation of Technical and Vocational Education policies for effective and efficient acquisition of knowledge, techniques and skills for sustainable development. The paper pointedly discussed economic development through functional vocational and technical education for accelerated national development and transformation. The paper also attempt to highlight the important of functional vocational and technical education for rapid economic development. The paper suggest/recommends among others that the Federal, States and Local Governments in Nigeria should set up a strong and viable supervisory and management teams for effective and efficient supervision and management of the available meager resources for accelerated transformation of Nigeria. Furthermore, government at all levels in Nigeria should provide adequate support for continuous training of teachers and students of technical and vocational so that technical and vocational education graduates produced in Nigeria should have the ability to stimulate inventions and generate innovative ideas inline with best global best practice for sustainable development and transformation of Nigeria.

    In this article I discuss two main types of development: sustainable and accelerated, which largely contradict each other. I highlight the differences between these two types of developments and describe the reasons behind the growing interest in accelerated development. I also speculate about conditions needed to achieve accelerated development in a democratic setting characterised by neoliberal economy. Moreover, I present arguments that are raised by both opponents and supporters of sustainable development.

    W artykule przedstawiono zasadnicze trudności, które uniemożliwiają przyjęcie i wdrażanie konsumpcji zrównoważonej w warunkach neoliberalnej gospodarki wolnorynkowej. W celu lepszego zilustrowania omawianego tematu artykuł podzielono na dwie części. W pierwszej omówiono podstawowe trudności, jakie wpłynęły na nieprzyjęcie koncepcji konsumpcji zrównoważonej leżącej u podstaw rozwoju zrównoważonego. W celu lepszego zobrazowania wspomnianych trudności przedstawiono bliżej pojęcie konsumpcji zrównoważonej, sposoby jej społecznego rozumienia, jak też aksjologię, do której się odwołuje. Ponadto omówiono charakterystykę jakościową konsumpcji zrównoważonej ze wskazaniem przyczyn jej niedostosowania do modelu gospodarki wolnorynkowej. W drugiej części zaprezentowano postulowany w ramach postmodernizmu projekt konsumpcji przyspieszonej leżącej u podstaw ponowoczesnej epoki przyspieszania. Wskazano przy tym jego optymalne dostosowanie do epoki czasu szybko płynącego oraz wymogów gospodarki wolnorynkowej, nastawionej na optymalizację zysku. Zwrócono też uwagę na ilościową charakterystykę przyspieszonej konsumpcji masowej oraz nową aksjologię konsumencką, którą przyniosła ponowoczesność. Ostatecznie przedstawiono, po pierwsze, główne różnice, jakie występują pomiędzy przedstawionymi typami konsumpcji, po drugie zaś warunki realizacji konsumpcji przyspieszonej w warunkach ponowoczesnej epoki przyspieszenia.
    This article presents the difficulties that prevent the implementation of sustainable consumption, in conditions of the neo-liberal free market economy. In order to better illustrate this topic, the article has been divided into two parts. The first one describes the reasons for not implementing the idea of sustainable consumption, which is the basis of sustainable development. In order to better clarify these reasons, this part also describes in detail, the concept of sustainable consumption, how it is perceived by society, and its related axiology.  Moreover, qualitative characteristics of sustainable consumption are presented. The second part presents the idea of accelerated consumption, postulated by post-modernism, and being the basis of the post-modern era of acceleration. It also details the optimal adjustment of accelerated consumption to the era of fast-flowing time, and requirements of the free market economy, oriented on income optimalisation. Furthermore, it points at quantitative characteristics of accelerated mass consumption, and new consumer axiology brought about by post-modernism. Finally, the main differences between these two types of consumption, and the conditions for implementing accelerated consumption in the post-modern era of acceleration, are presented.
