Holy Land Experience is a religious theme park in Orlando, Florida. The city is home to some of the main theme parks in the United States, however, Holy Land Experience is not a typical one, and in official flyers it claims not to be a theme park at all, its role being, instead, educational. Holy Land Experience is a plaster replica of Jerusalem from the times of Christ, spread on 15 acres of land. At the same time, it is an interesting example of promoting spirituality using tools attributed to entertainment. Inside the theme park Christianity is shown offering a direct, emotional experience using imitations of Biblical places and events. Indeed, according to the visitors, the overwhelming artificiality of the place does not thwart religious feeling. At Holy Land Experience spiritual experience is merged with entertainment and a sense of America’s uniqueness.

Adam Chmielowski, znany jako św. brat Albert, był malarzem, mistykiem i sługą ubogich. Wywarł szczególny wpływ na współczesnych mu artystów, pisarzy, uczonych, ziemian i arystokratów. Jego osobowość fascynowała, a wzór życia stanowił wyzwanie dla współczesnych. Tematem artykułu są relacje między nim a Andrzejem Szeptyckim, lwowskim metropolitą Kościoła greckokatolickiego. Łączyła ich wieloletnia przyjaźń, z inspiracji hierarchy Chmielowski dokończył swój najbardziej znany obraz – Ecce homo. Wspomnienia metropolity ukazują wielowymiarowość franciszkańskiego doświadczenia wpisanego w biografię świętego. Są też próbą uchwycenia osobowości artysty.
Adam Chmielowski, known to the world as St. Brother Albert, was a painter, mystic and servant of the poor. He had a special influence on contemporary artists, writers, scholars, landowners and aristocrats. His personality was fascinating, and his pattern of life was a challenge for his contemporaries. The content of the article is the relationship between him and Andrzej Szeptycki (Andrey Sheptytsky), the Lviv metropolitan of the Greek-Catholic Church. They shared a long friendship, inspired by the hierarch, Chmielowski finished his most famous painting – Ecce Homo. The memories of the metropolitan show the multidimensionality of the Franciscan experience inscribed in the saint’s biography. The notes are also an attempt to capture the artist’s personality.

Die sich ästhetisch zunehmend durchdringende zeitgenössische Theater- und Performancepraxis weisen ein erhebliches Innovations- und Diskurspotential auf, das sowohl spielästhetische als auch (post-)dramaturgische Fragen auslöst. Dabei interessieren u.a. folgende Aspekte, gerade auch im Hinblick auf die künstlerische Ausbildungspraxis, besonders: Schein, Authentizität, Repräsentationskritik, Autorschaft, Stückentwicklung, (soziale) Teilhabe, Digitalisierung, Cross-gender-acting.
Nakładające się na siebie coraz częściej praktyki teatralne i performatywne odznaczają się dużym potencjałem innowacyjnym i dyskursywnym, prowokującym pytania dotyczące gry estetycznej jak i (post-)dramatyczności. Wyjątkowo interesujące są w tym przypadku, w szczególności w kontekście kształcenia artystów: pozór, autentyczność, krytyka ideologii reprezentacji, autorstwo, tworzenie sztuki teatralnej, partycypacja (społeczna), digitalizacja, Cross-gender-acting.
The overlapping forms of contemporary theatre and performance have created significant opportunities for innovation and new discourse which poses questions related to aesthetics and (post)dramatic concerns. How can we describe and characterize this artistic and theoretical knowledge? What are the main challenges, topics and strategies in artistic research and acting/performing? This essay is an attempt to map some essential fields in the (post-)dramatic landscape – including new forms of (post-)dramaturgical thinking and the shifting understanding of (collective) authorship. The following aspects are of particular interest, especially in relation to artistic training practice: appearance, authenticity, representational criticism, authorship, play development, (social) participation, digitization, cross-gender acting.

In this article I consider the role of popular artistic representations, first of all referring to perfectly known but ill-famed motive of “deer in rut”. Starting with “art-culture”, the scheme proposed by James Clifford, I try to argue for the fluidity and cultural contextualization of paintings which escape easy categorizations as bad art or kitsch. As a result, through the analysis of meanings of this kind of representations, I attempt to point out how these representations are situated both in the sphere of high (modern) art and in popular culture, still synonymous with low culture. I also show results of this polysemous entanglement.
W artykule zastanawiam się nad rolą popularnych przedstawień artystycznych, odnosząc się przede wszystkim do doskonale znanego, choć niecieszącego się dobrą sławą motywu „jeleni na rykowisku”. Wychodząc od schematu „sztuka – kultura, zaproponowanego przez Jamesa Clifforda”, próbuję argumentować na rzecz przemieszczeń i kulturowych kontekstualizacji obrazów, które nie dają się łatwo zaklasyfikować jako zła sztuka lub kicz. W konsekwencji poprzez analizę znaczeń tego rodzaju przedstawień próbuję pokazać, w jaki sposób są one osadzone zarówno w obszarze tzw. sztuki wysokiej (modernistycznej), jak i w obszarze kultury popularnej, utożsamianej ciągle jeszcze z kulturą niską – i co z tego wieloznacznego uwikłania wynika.

“Who’s going to dangle there?” – Peasant revolt in urban imagination. On the Gore album by R.U.T.A. and on its receptionThe author presents a review of a recent album “Gore: Songs of Rebellion and Misery from 16th to 20th Century” by a Polish punk rock / hardcore group R.U.T.A. The album, which combines traditional peasant lyrics with modern arrangements and folk instruments, has received acclaim from both fans and critics, while the band declared their commitment to struggles of contemporary progressive social movements. The author analyses the lyrics situating his reflection in sociological-historical framework to discuss realities of peasants’ lives and revolts during the second serfdom in early modern Poland. The author interprets the musical form of the songs as “punk-rock assimilation” of folklore themes. The final section contains critical reflection on the album’s marketing strategy and reception with the key dissected categories being “rebellion” and “authenticity.”

Pokazano, čto predstavleniâ o ≪podlinnosti≫ izmenâûtsâ s tečeniem vremeni, otličaûtsâ v različnyh kulʹturnyh tradiciâh, obuslovleny mirovozzreniem opredelennoj istoričeskoj èpohi, a takže èvolûciej otnošeniâ čelovekak srede svoego obitaniâ. Vydeleny dva podhoda k tolkovaniû ≪podlinnosti arhitekturnogo naslediâ≫: istoričeskij, osnovoj kotorogo âvlâetsâ ponimanie pamâtnika zodčestva kak dokumentalʹnogo svidetelʹstva prošlogo i svâzi vremen, i strukturnyj, kotoryj otvergaet preemstvennostʹ i dopuskaet vozmožnostʹ ≪zameny≫ fragmentov celogo.
Now, „authenticity” is one of the main debate issues of restoration theory and practice. The article presents the dynamics of interpretations of this concept (hereinafter referred to as „authenticity") in the history of European culture (Part I) and defines modern directions in its interpretation in the humanities (Part II). It is shown that the concept of „authenticity” changes over time, differs in various cultural traditions, due to the worldview of a particular historical era, as well as the evolution of a person’s attitude to his environment. Two approaches to the interpretation of the „authenticity of the architectural heritage” are distinguished: the historical one, the basis of which is the understanding of the architectural monument as documentary evidence of the past and the connection of the times, and the structural one, which rejects the continuity and ... the possibility of „replacing” fragments of the whole.

For the past decade sociologists have been increasingly diagnosing the new social and cultural phenomenon of ‘mindful revolution’ that confronts more institutionalised aspects of collective practices such as the communicative, technological and informational acceleration, advanced consumerism, overchoice and ‘post-truth’ politics. At the core of mindfulness practices are the values of presentism and de automatism, which are maintained by meditative and contemplative techniques. Integration with other subcultures into relatively homogenous structural clusters of the sociocultural system is an important manifestation of mindfulness as a set of existential values. Outside the religious dimension of Buddhism there are three main forms of subcultural practices that tend to interconnect with mindfulness and form such a structural cluster – minimalism, slow living, and wellness. There is a certain tendency for mindfulness to develop as a societal ‘mode of being’ or constitutional life strategy, and transfer from the subcultural position to the level of dominated cultural patterns in the form of institutionalised reflexivity. Consideration of the mindful revolution as part of large-scale social and historical processes leads to a deeper understanding of its causes, forms, and tendencies.

Celem artykułu jest przypomnienie wybranych tekstów krytycznych Karola Irzykowskiego o kluczowej postaci młodopolskiego ruchu na przełomie XIX i XX stulecia – Stanisławie Przybyszewskim. Na tle innych zmian zachodzących w latach dwudziestych w podejściu Irzykowskiego do krytykowanych wcześniej literatów można obserwować złagodzenie tonu w wystąpieniach o Przybyszewskim, co wynika z rozpoznania pokoleniowych powinowactw i fundamentalnych podobieństw w artystycznych programach datujących się na czasy sprzed ćwierćwiecza (związanych z uczuciami osamotnienia, rozczarowania i niepokoju). Irzykowski rozpoznaje bezpośredniość oraz autentyczność wspomnień Przybyszewskiego, jego dramatu Mściciel, eksploruje sztukę starszego kolegi, a także jego uwagi krytyczne poczynione podczas spisywania faktów z zakresu historii polskiej literatury najnowszej.
The paper aims at the analysis of selected critical statements Karol Irzykowski made about Stanisław Przybyszewski, a pivotal figure in the Young Poland’s movement at the turn of the century. Against the background of other changes that occurred in the 1920s in Irzykowski’s approach to literary figures he formerly criticized one can observe Irzykowski assumes a lenient attitude towards Przybyszewski that results from recognition of essential similarities between their artistic credos dating back twenty-five years and a feeling of generational affinity in terms of experiencing emotions such as loneliness, disappointment, and anxiety. Irzykowski recognizes Przybyszewski’s literary straightforwardness as well as authenticity of his memoirs, and his play Mściciel [The Avenger] and explores his older colleague’s art and his critical comments made while taking down facts about the most recent history of Polish literature.

The question of authenticity in language has been approached from a number of theoretical standpoints. A significant type of feature which may bestow authenticity and legitimacy is the linguistic. Linguistic performance can be viewed in terms of either the unreflectingly fluent and competent use by the ideal native speaker or, in opposition, the inauthenticity of the non-native language learner. As pointed out by Martin Gill in his paper “Exclusive Boundaries, Contested Claims: Authenticity, Language and Ideology”, authentic speech is romanticised as “native, spoken, verbatim, unrehearsed, off-the-record, sincere, vernacular and non-standard”. Such a definition is easily understandable by the wider public outside of academia. However, it begs the question: who has the authority to make this distinction and who can validate these authenticity claims? Mary Bucholtz proposes instead the concept of authentication, or the outcome of constantly negotiated social and linguistic practices. Debates over what constitutes ‘authentic’ language in minority language settings are particularly noticeable, given the processes of revitalisation many of them are going through. This paper aims to move the discussion away from the purely linguistic when considering what authenticity means, and investigate the concept from a more speaker-centred perspective. The example of Breton in Brittany is taken as the case study here – what it means to speak Breton ‘authentically’, according to whom, and to which norms. In particular, attention is paid to the authentication process of negotiation and how different actors approach and manage this dynamic.
Kwestii „autentyczności” języka przyglądano się już z wielu pozycji teoretycznych. Istotny czynnik nadający autentyczność i legitymizujący użycie języka przez mówcę stanowią często cechy językowe. Realizację językową można opisywać jako bezrefleksyjną, płynną i kompetentną w wykonaniu rodzimego użytkownika języka lub przeciwnie, jako nieautentyczną w przypadku użytkownika nierodzimego, uczącego się języka. Według artykułu Exclusive Boundaries, Contested Claims: Authenticity, Language and Ideology autorstwa Martina Gilla, autentyczna mowa jest idealizowana jako „rodzima, mówiona, dosłowna, nieprzećwiczona, nieoficjalna, szczera, potoczna i niestandardowa”. Taka definicja jest łatwa do przyjęcia przez rzesze użytkowników języka spoza środowiska akademickiego. Naukowcom jednak nasuwa się pytanie: kto jest upoważniony do dokonywania tego rozróżnienia i kto może potwierdzić postulat autentyczności. Mary Bucholtz proponuje zamiast tego koncepcję uwierzytelnienia, czyli rezultatu stale negocjowanych praktyk społecznych i językowych. Debaty o tym, co stanowi język „autentyczny”, są zauważalne zwłaszcza w przypadku języków mniejszościowych, z których wiele podlega procesom rewitalizacji. Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu przesunięcie dyskusji nad autentycznością języka z czysto językoznawczej perspektywy w kierunku tej skoncentrowanej na mówcy. Jako studium przypadku wybrano język bretoński w Bretanii i postawiono pytania o to, co, według kogo i w oparciu o jakie normy oznacza mówienie po bretońsku „autentycznie”. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono procesowi uwierzytelnienia przez negocjację oraz temu, jak różni użytkownicy języka podchodzą do tej dynamiki i jak nią zarządzają.

Zadie Smith’s latest novel, NW, presents a multiverse in which multiplicity is driven into homogeneization by the forces of those dominant discourses that attempt to suppress the category of the “Other.” This paper focuses on the development of the two female protagonists. Their opposing attitudes towards motherhood, together with their confrontation with their origins, bring to the fore the performativity found in the discourses of gender, sexuality, class, and race. Thus, this paper will explore authenticity and performativity in a contemporary context, where patriarchal and neocolonial discourses still apply.

Opis:
A common assumption in product value literature is that authenticity is what contemporary consumers value the most. However, as this paper illustrates, the meaning of authenticity is unclear and the term appears foreign to product development practitioners. The purpose of this paper is to explore in what ways product development professionals talk about product value in general and how this relates to authenticity. The analysis of the interviews reveals that product developers must embrace authenticity as a holistic framework if the phenomenon is to be constructive for companies within the product development industry. In line with the concept of authenticity as a multi-dimensional framework, this paper suggests that authenticity does not solely result from certain intrinsic tangible or intangible product characteristics, and that commercially strong products and brands do not automatically become ‘authentic’. The contribution of this paper to the product development field is a framework for a multi-dimensional construct of authenticity, and an account for what representatives within selected companies talk about when asked about how they create consumer value, and how they contribute to valuable consumer experiences. The findings are analysed and discussed in the context of literature from product development, brand management and marketing management.

Opis:
In the present work the carbon and nitrogen isotopic composition of food products bought in the retail trade in Warsaw is demonstrated. The research was carried out using meat (pork, chicken), hen eggs and honey. These products originated from the conventional and ecological farms. The values of the isotopic ratios are expressed as δ notation and correspond to the international standards (V-PDB for δ13C, and air for δ15N) according to the following general formula: δ(‰) = [(R sample / R standard) – 1] × 1000, where R represents the ratio between the less abundant and more abundant isotopes, in particular 13C/12C and 15N/14N. The results received in our laboratory, were compared with results presented in the literature for similar products. The results of the study show that the N and C stable isotope ratios in the tested products can be applied to verify their authenticity.

The text attempts to answer the question whether musicians need a philosophy of music. The answer to the question of what music contributes to philosophy - a question superordinate in relation to the investigations of the links between philosophy and music - can be formulated clearly, since we find it in the texts of the most prominent representatives of European philosophical thought, including Schopenhauer, whose ideas are discussed in the paper. These issues are also discussed in literature which explores philosophical issues, by such classics of the genre as Thomas Mann and Herman Hesse, whose profound descriptions bring us closer to an understanding of that which music does directly, by expressing spheres beyond words that cannot be expressed otherwise than through music. Karl Popper regards polyphony as the greatest discovery of European culture, and provides evidence of the closeness of science and philosophy. These three levels of approaching the relationship between philosophy and music lead to demonstrating the axiological essence of music, revealed by performers, who make it possible for music to exist to the full in its sonority, unveiling its metaphysical perfection to its listeners.

Opis:
This study explores the dynamic, interactive relationship between teacher identity and authenticity. Through an examination of several socio-cultural (social identity, situated learning, and image text) and psycholinguistic (individual differences) second language acquisition theories, a conceptualization of identity is provided. Subsequently, language teacher authenticity is characterized from both a philosophical and pedagogical perspective and connected to the notion of teacher identity. The final section of the paper presents research-based applications that include reflecting critically, redefining personal credibility, discovering one’s personal style, displaying emotion and recognizing diversity to facilitate the positive-broadening quest of aligning one’s identity (i.e., who I am) with authenticity (i.e., what I do).
