The text is devoted to an unknown short film made in 1957 in the Łódź Film School, Images XVI - rewizja.indd 276 2015-09-07 11:54:38 abstracts 277 Henryk Kluba’s Salvation. The film, showing the scary face of Stalinist terror in Poland, clearly transcends political taboo. Another work whose exploration of this theme goes as far will not be made until some twenty-fi ve years later, Ryszard Bugajski’s well-known Interrogation (1982). It turns out that it was not the first.

Opis:
The development of orthodontics has improved thanks to the introduction of adhesives which are physically and chemically akin to tooth enamel and brackets. These materials often fall short of the required durability standards. The objective was to evaluate the real strength of the adhesives and to introduce a proprietary device, generating multiple vectors of strength between dental brackets and the surface of enamel. 11 types of adhesive materials have been studied. 990 applications have been made using removed teeth, followed by a randomised creation of 11 groups containing 90 samples each. The threshold values of the strength needed to break the brackets off were determined in torsional, shear and tension strength tests. A comparison between tensometric and planimetric methods was made by means based on ARI index. Resistance was highest for torsional stress, weaker for shear stress and the weakest for tension stress. A correlation was found between tensometric results. The study attempted to systematise the methodology of direct tests.

Opis:
The essay questions the position of artist run initiatives in the countries of the former Soviet Bloc, particularly in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic, during the communist regime and compares them to similar institutions working today. The general thesis is that the self-organised activities of artists under a totalitarian state or in the times of economical crisis lead to similar strategies. Therefore the history of unofficial art in the former Soviet Bloc cannot be understood as shaped exclusively by the conditions of the communist state. In general terms it is similar to the artist run initiatives or theoretical models elsewhere, for example the Temporary Autonomous Zones by Hakim Bey or different independent art institutions in Western Europe or USA. Artist run initiatives are often physically attached to certain places which influences their mission and their activities. The alternative to the official institutional system creates parallel community, formed by different art groups, galleries or by a whole community that shares similar interests, vocabulary and values. Sometimes – and especially in Eastern Europe – creating a social network is more important that art production or the establishment of theoretical framework. Art is often a mere pretext for a desired social activity that cannot be fulfilled in another way. The traditional values of art criticism are not sufficient here. The works clearly have not only an aesthetic value, but also an ethical one.

Opis:
The character of Russian-Jewish immigrant constitutes undoubtedly one of the major figures in Israeli cinema. The aim of the studies is to focus on two contemporary Israeli films, i.e. Saint Clara (Clara Hakedosha, 1996) by Ari Folman and Ori Sivan and Circus Palestine (Kirkas Palestina, 1998) by Eyal Halfon from the point of view of intercultural relationships. The selected texts of culture seem to show both Russian and Jewish culture as dynamic and ambiguous phenomena, which are characterised by a number of paradoxes, polar stereotypes and prejudices. At the same time, however, the cultures turn out to be similar to each other in their continuous inner conflict between striving for freedom and the need of self-restraint.
Кажется, что русско-еврейский иммигрант является одним из главных героев современного израильского кино. Автор статьи концентрируется на анализе двух израильских фильмов, т.е. Святая Клара (Clara Hakedosha, 1996) Ари Фольманa и Ори Сиванa и Цирк Палестина (Kirkas Palestina, 1998) Эяля Хальфонa.

Opis:
The text announces a research program on the galleries that emerged in relation to conceptual art and introduces the scope and method of research. The general aim of the research is to set apart the issue of a conceptual gallery as an independent artistic phenomenon. A conceptual gallery is examined as a general artistic formula. The methodological scheme presented in the text aims at establishing a basic chronology and creating a typology of the trend. Historically, conceptual galleries emerged and were shaped in the frame of a broadly understood conceptual tendency (a leading tendency in the seventies) because at that time, there occurred a specific formal-artistic relationship between art and gallery. Until now, the conceptual gallery trend has been examined mainly in the context of the social, political and cultural conditions in which they were functioning. The research on conceptual galleries as an artistic project and a form of conceptual art causes the vector of the research to reverse. The artistic character of particular galleries could be graded into those which housed more or less radical projects. One may imagine a scale between limit points: a gallery as a work of art and a gallery as an art container and place all galleries from the seventies on it. The beginning of the conceptual gallery movement in Poland is marked by a project by Andrzej Kostolowski and Jaroslaw Kozlowski entitled NET (1971), based on a mail-art formula. It assumed not only collecting and exhibiting the works sent (which was each institution’s aim), but also creating their own specific points in the network of institutions. Thirty five galleries participated in an exhibition which summarised an activity of the BWA Gallery in Sopot in the summer of 1981. The galleries of this type functioned in the next decade, even during martial law. In the mid-nineties the gallery movement started to integrate again, however after 2000 the commercialisation of the art market caused their disappearance.

Opis:
On the chronic need for sensitivity in the contemporary world It is extremely rare that humanistic discourse reflects on the category of sensitivity, a topic in a way perceived as a taboo and thus excluded. If discussed at all, it is usually juxtaposed with a rational, matter-of-fact and emotionless view of reality. In other words, it tends to be oversimplified, consequently turning into a misleading dichotomy where something is either rational or affective, with a clear line of demarcation between the two. The age of enlightenment has brought a distinct devaluation of emotions, feelings, “animal instincts”, and finally, of magical thinking in favour of reason. The author of the article forms a thesis that sensitivity, while devaluated and depreciated, constitutes one of the most important keys to understanding the condition of postmodern human. She argues that life in a world drained out of emotions is indeed dysfunctional, both for individuals and consequently, for entire societies.

Opis:
The article focuses on pointing out the functions of using animation technique and elements of the science fiction genre in Ari Folman’s The Congress from 2013. The film, which is loosely based on the short story The Futurological Congress by Stanisław Lem, balances on the edge of various genres, using the techniques of both live action film and computer animation. Folman proposes a glamorous, colorful vision of an (anti)utopian future, in which pharmacologically-modified cyborg-people participate in a collective hallucination, which is an alternative reality to the post-apocalyptic real world. The director makes several significant changes to the original, thanks to which he introduces a universal message and asks questions which seem far more relevant in the context of both contemporary culture and the environmental crisis that can no longer be ignored (although the issue of an impending natural disaster was also important in Lem’s works).
