PIELGRZYMKI - Opis:
- In July 1400, Duchess Anna, wife of Vytautas, Grand Duke of Lithuania, visited well-known pilgrimage destinations on Prussian lands. In the course of her travel, she saw the relics of Saint Barbara in Pokarmin, tomb of Saint Dorothea in Kwidzyn and relics of Saint Barbara in Starogrod. Each visit was momentous in character and properly celebrated. However, the presence of Duchess Anna was not only motivated by religious devotion. Her visit created a great opportunity for the Teutonic Order to gain her favour so as to count for her support in dealings with the Grand Duke. Therefore, the duchess and her court were given fine and expensive gifts as well as attended to during feasts. Order members offered few items such as silver rings, gloves, knifes and gilded chalices. Duchess Anna returned to Lithuania spirited, as she visited sacred places, and richer, as she received gifts from the monks.
