The paper considers the problem of adapting literary works in the context of the intermediality phenomenon. The author examines the significance of the latter category, considers the movie as an example of an intermedial text and shows the consequences of ‘translation’ of literature to other media and media transmissions. Intermediality, in the opinion of the author, is a part of the nature of the modern media market, to a large extent shaped by the specific needs of consumers.

Regardless of the theoretical perspective, the school adaptation is treated in an instrumental way and identifies with the concept of adaptation, adjustment, fitness, and is considered as the basic problem of the student’s educational functioning. However, it should be clearly emphasized that compliance included in the school adaptation does not mean passive adaptation, submission to external influences, because it does not exclude the possibility of student’s innovative, creative role and active participation in the institution’s life. The article attempts to show school adaptation of children as an extremely important aspect of human adaptation, understood as the whole-life process of building balance and striving to maintain it between constantly changing and mutually conditioning entities: the human body and the its life environment. This process takes place with different dynamics de-pending on each episode of life, and more importantly, with a different value for its further course. Therefore, the quality of school adaptation experiences taken out of childhood exerts significant impact on the course of further human functioning.

Opis:
In 2010 Jan Jakub Kolski published his book: Pamięć podróżna. Fragmentozbiór filmowy. In the book Kolski expresses his opinion on film adaptation from the point of view of a practitioner; in a methodical and practical way he describes how to adapt a literary work of art to the cinema. The present article is a kind of a “case study”: on the basis of Kolski’s film Venice, the author enquires if, to what extent and to what effect the director has really satisfied his ‘adaptative’ demands.

Despite their diff erent temporal foci – late-Victorian past, present, distant future – the texts revolve around four ways of depicting the mysterious murderer: as a timeless force, a killer who uses time travel to escape, a killer whose deeds are to be prevented, and, last but not least, a tool in the hands of future generations. They also indicate that creators and consumers of popular culture are not interested in discovering the Ripper’s identity as much as want to follow him through centuries.

Shakespeare in multiplexes
Opis:
William Shakespeare has been part of the cinema since 1899. In the twentieth century almost a thousand films in some way based upon his plays were made, but the vast majority of those which sought to faithfully present his plays to the cinema audience failed at the box office. Since the start of the twenty-first century only one English language film using Shakespeare’s text has made a profit, yet at the same time Shakespeare has become a popular source for adaptations into other genres. This essay examines the reception of a number of adaptations as gangster films, teen comedies, musicals and thrillers, as well as trans-cultural assimilations. But this very proliferation throws up other questions, as to what can legitimately be called an adaptation of Shakespeare. Not every story of divided love is an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. Different adaptations and assimilations have enjoyed differing degrees of success, and the essay interrogates those aspects which make the popular cinema audience flock to see Shakespeare in such disguised form, when films which are more faithfully based upon the original plays are so much less appealing to the audience in the Multiplexes.

Opis:
The article discusses a range of common problems faced by international students while studying in Russia, drawing on the example of Ural Federal University (Ekaterinburg). Analysis of the sociological data has shown that international students have to deal with the following adaptation barriers: organizational barriers which students face when joining the educational process; socio-cultural barriers which mostly stem from the lack of language proficiency; getting accustomed to daily routines of living on the campus; informational barriers caused by a low awareness of the conditions of life and studying in Russia (Russian cultural norms and values, the climate of the Urals, etc.). The article reveals a correlation between the specificity of the countries international students come from and the main stages of their adaptation, providing guidelines for improvement of international student support at Ural Federal University.

Opis:
The article analyses the problems of political adaptation of Ukrainians. Military conflict in the East of Ukraine, annexation of the Crimea, socioeconomic crisis, distrust to power institutions have all caused a number of issues associated with the internally displaced people. Political adaptive relations in the society are viewed as processes of identification in which a person identifies him\herself with certain aims and political values. The main problem, which internally displaced people face, include access to social services, having a constant place of residence and registering at the new place of residence. Such citizens receive help through oblast administrations and NGOs. As practice shows, the actions of the authorities regarding the problems of internally displaced people are mostly of a declarative nature. However, in addition to social and psychological, political adaptation is also important as it facilitates the integration of a society and its development. Factors that influence the political adaptation of internally displaced people in the modern Ukrainian society have been identified. 1. The set system of relations between a person and the state is ruined due to state institution crisis and power decentralization. 2. The possibilities for political activity of individuals as well as social groups in the course of exercising their rights and satisfying their interests are widened. 3. Activation of non-governmental institutions facilitates the organized citizen participation in the political process, which facilitates the popularization of an active public opinion. 4. Peculiarities of the work of political actors, their reputation, level of responsibility and efficiency. 5. Social environment of a person, level of his/her education and political culture. 6. Mass media, which popularize certain patterns of political behavior, manipulate consciousness, impose stereotypes etc. The author notes that internally displaced people are limited in their rights and freedoms in comparison with the rest of the population (deprivation of the right to vote, discriminative control of their place of residence, limitations as to the choice of a banking institution for receiving pensions and social support etc.). internally displaced people actually have no right to participate in solving local issues, despite the fact that this right is guaranteed by the Constitution of Ukraine. By this we mean participation in public hearings, local initiatives, general assembly of the community. In addition, internally displaced people cannot participate in establishment of bodies of population self-organization, which is one of the important forms of participation of territorial community members in solving local issues. There is an ambiguous attitude towards the IDPs from the East of Ukraine – compassion mixed with apprehension. On the one hand, local authorities wish to provide maximum possible help for the internally displaced people. At the same time, there is a growing tension in the relations due to the increasing number of citizens who died in the zone of the conflict. One of the key problems that hinders the adaptation of IDPs is the absence of a common national program concerning the internally displaces people as well as of a body that would be directly responsible for dealing with the issues of IDPs. Consequently, displaced people cannot trust state institutions, may perceive the political system as an enemy that does not facilitate their socialization. The process of political adaptation of internally displaced people to the change of political space has certain peculiar features. 1. Social disorientation is caused by the deformation of the socioeconomic system of a society and is a consequence of destruction of social links, statuses and roles, the system of political norms, behavioral ideals. 2. New social identification happens through establishment of new social identities and entering the institutional structure of a society. 3. Collective political participation is carried out through citizen associations, influence on making important political decisions is made at the level of non-governmental institutions. 4. Tolerance to value foundations of a democratic society is being established.

Prostota definicji, jasno sformułowany podmiot, cele i kierunki działania to podstawowe zalety definicji adaptacji.
The article attempt and systematizes nomenclature concerning settle post-mining objects. In this article the most important indication is legitimacy of using adaptation and revitalization concepts relevant to post-mining objects. The concepts widespread in literature were compared. For revitalization, different definitions from architecture, urban, geography of the city and economy, was setting up. Only one definition was take into account for adaptation. Comparison was analyzed in five areas: subject, target, contractors, space and tools. It was found that the definitions of revitalization and adaptation are neither identical nor complementary. Adaptation is characterized by creation of new product based on post-mining object and uses tools adjusted to post-mining objects profile. In case of revitalization it is impossible to carry out this process in case of this post-mining objects because there are no possibilities to reach the same conditions as before exploitation. Summary. Revitalization is correct definition for city renovation where destroyed city space should be rebuilt and disappearing function must be restored. On the other hand, when the subject of consideration is post-exploitation area without buildings where the function must be changed adaptation it is better definition.

Infrastructural systems -such as railways- can be characterized as multi-actor socio-technical systems that are able to adapt during their life cycle, both to external disturbances as well as changes in the system itself. The design phase should mark the starting point for a resilient system to prevent ad-hoc and opportunistic design changes. A case study on the design and development of the High-Speed Line railway system in the Netherlands indicates that it is necessary to make both a technical and procedural evaluation of these future user’s possibilities before construction takes place. Once cast in concrete, the adaptive potential has been determined. The actors during design and operation adapt in different ways. During the design, the focus should be on the question which incentives are driving the designing parties towards a consistent and resilient design. The task for a strategic engineer or architect, is to understand how incentives and requirements influence each other and how they safeguard the future operational variance of the system and its safe performance. Such a strategic engineer should be involved in the project at the functional level, where requirements and incentives are formulated.
