Opis:
In this study we compared incomes distributions in the USA for two subgroups (defined according to sex or race). We utilized the quantile decomposition method to describe differences between the two distributions as a function of their quantiles. The analyzed objects are characterized by the set of attributes (education, age, etc.). We evaluate strength of the influence of the attributes onto the various parts of the incomes distributions. In such a way we evaluate income inequalities and their causes in two subgroups of people.

Opis:
The model discussed in this paper is a modification of the model of macroeconomic evolution in stable regionally dependent fields, developed by Ausloos, Clippe and Pekalski in 2004. Like in the original model, firms exist on a square lattice and can move, merge, adapt and create spin-offs. However, in the new model the firms are described by a scalar parameter identified with their level of technology and by their market share. The probability of survival of a firm depends on the relation between the firm's technology level and the level of the technological frontier. The model incorporates two mechanisms of technology diffusion - inner (resulting from the cooperation between firms and the creation of spin-offs) and outer (interaction with the technological frontier). In this way, we obtain a model of technological progress with technology diffusion. We investigate the properties of this model and perform empirical analysis for a group of OECD countries.

The aim of our research is to propose a method of rating companies which is based on efficiency measure given by Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Proper rating of borrowers is an essential requirement of PD estimation. The difficulty in DEA application is the selection of input and output from the set of indicators describing evaluated objects, which is usually based on expert knowledge. Therefore we apply random forests and gradient boosting to select financial indicators used by the DEA approach and to obtain a ranking of companies needed for PD estimation.

Opis:
In this study, three different gas turbine cogeneration systems that are preheating air, preheating air-fuel and simple cycles where steam injected in to combustion chamber are analyzed. The effects of steam injection on thermoeconomic performance are calculated and obtained. By using the first law of thermodynamics, the exergy analysis and economic methods, simulation programs written by the authors in FORTRAN code are obtained to use for the analyses. Thermoeconomic performance of these three different cycles for different stage and variable mass of injected steam are obtained and compared with literature. The effects of injection steam in to combustion chambers of those three cycles for variable compressing ratios, on power, efficiencies, product price and performances are obtained. Consequently, the advantages and the disadvantages of injection steam are evaluated. The results obtained in this study are compared with the results available in the literature. Injection steam into combustion chamber increases the electricity efficiency and electricity power but decreases the heat power of the cycles. Also the produced electricity price for per kWh is increasing.

In this paper we study the relations between personal incomes and incomes of families with two adults in USA. We describe family income distributions using the simple two-parametric model. Assuming incomes of spouses are statistically independent of each other we obtain theoretical exponential income distributions for males and females. We show that these distributions are not coincident with distributions constructed based on the personal data. Obtained results indicate on statistical dependence between incomes of males and females in the families. We track changes and trends in data for years from 2001 to 2016.

Opis:
This paper is concerned with two coupled Kaldor-Kalecki models of business cycles with delays in both the gross product and the capital stock. We consider two types of investment functions that lead to different behavior of the system. We introduce the model with unidirectional coupling to investigate the influence of a global economy (like the European Union) on a local economy (like Poland). We present detailed results of numerical analysis.

Opis:
Effluents or liquids of percolation from the discharges (leachates) are charged bacteriologically and especially chemically of mineral substances (mineral ions and heavy metals) and organic (volatile fatty acids, humic substances), which can contaminate soil, surface waters and ground waters. The humic substances, called also refractories, are not easily biodegradable and require concentrating them and/or adsorbing them by implementation of expensive processes. Scientists are looking for alternatives to eliminate or recover these substances. The present study investigates the elimination of humic acid from waste water using supported liquid membrane containing trioctyl phosphine oxide (TOPO) in toluene, as extractant. The supported liquid membrane is composed of a flat sheet of cross-linked polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). In this study we have: (i) optimized the conditions for humic acid species transfer from feed aqueous phase to stripping phase across PDMS/TOPO/toluene supported liquid membrane; (ii) characterized the membrane by using FTIR technique and by determining the flux J, permeability P and diffusion coefficient of the complexed species D. Speciation of the humic acid species in the membrane organic carrier (extractant) phase has also been carried out using theoretically derived equations to elucidate the stoichiometry and mechanism of transport of humic acid across the PDMS/TOPO/toluene supported liquid membrane. Optimum conditions of transport for humic acid have been found to be: pH=3, [NaOH]=0.4 M, E_{extraction}=94.67%, E_{diffusion}=32.5%, J=1.34 × 10¯⁴ mg cm¯² s¯¹, D=1.16 × 10¯² cm² s¯¹ and P=2.64 cm s¯¹. Kinetic parameters calculated from the experimental data have been determined. Thermodynamic functions of the several species transfer from the feed solution to the stripping one through the supported liquid membrane, such us enthalpy, entropy and Gibbs free energies, were determined. Positive values of Δ H and negative values of Δ G indicate respectively the endothermic and the spontaneous nature of the humic acid extraction in aqueous solution.

During compression molding of glass fiber reinforced plastic composites, annealing and quenching experiment is conducted by changing pre-heating and cooling method. As results, major cause of unevenness that affects waviness profile (winding) is the shrinkage of matrix during holding and cooling process. Waviness profile of the surface on molding in glass fiber reinforced plastic composites will be lower when holding pressure load is higher, mold temperature is lower during demolding, and cooling rate is slower. In addition, surface roughness of moldings is depending on holding pressure load compared with mold temperature. According to molding condition of glass fiber reinforced plastic composites, waviness profile of surface can be quantitatively estimated using the proposed equation.

Opis:
Within this work, the dechlorination of polyvinylchloride (PVC) chemical as a model by co-milling with eggshell was performed in a planetary ball mill in order to show that mechanochemistry can be utilized for the simultaneous treatment of two wastes, while the products of the treatment can be used in further applications. The products of the reaction are water-soluble calcium chloride ($CaCl_2$), which can be used e.g. for de-icing of roads in winter and organic residue on the basis of ethylene, which can be recovered as energy source. The highest dechlorination yield (almost 97%) was achieved under following milling conditions: molar ratio between Ca and Cl: 2.34, ball-to-powder ratio: 65, rotation speed of the planet carrier: 550 rpm, milling time: 4 h and material of milling media: tungsten carbide. The optimum conditions were then applied for the removal of chlorine from industrial waste - the abandoned PVC window parapet. In this case, 95% dechlorination was evidenced.
