Opis:
The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of various luting materials and surface treatments on adhesive strength for zirconia ceramics and luting cements. The zirconia framework specimens were made into cylinders. Prior to cement, zirconia framework specimens underwent various surface treatments (sandblasting with 110 μm $Al_2O_3$ particles, milling with 240-grift silicon sand paper and silanization). Resin luting cement and glass ionomer luting cement were then applied on the surface of zirconia specimens. The specimens were then subjected to a shear force. The fractured surfaces were visually analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. The shear bond strength values of resin luting cement bonded to zirconia specimens were significantly higher than glass ionomer luting cement bonded to zirconia specimens (P < 0.05). The shear bond strength values of zirconia specimens sandblasted with 110 μm $Al_2O_3$ particles were significantly higher than those milled with silicon carbide papers and underwent silanization (P < 0.05). The shear bond strength values of zirconia specimens milled with silicon carbide papers and underwent silanization were not significantly different (P < 0.05). The highest shear bond strength values were achieved when the zirconia specimens were sandblasted and bonded to resin luting cement. Airborne-particle abrasion was an effective method which could enhance the bond strength of zirconia ceramics and cements. The resin luting cement exhibited a higher bond to zirconia than glass ionomer luting cement.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to evaluate the core-veneer bond strength of graded zirconia combinations and compared those to conventional zirconia combinations after thermal and mechanical tests. Conventional zirconia-veneer combinations and graded zirconia-veneer combinations were made into cylinders. Prior to shear bond testing, half of each group was subjected to thermal and mechanical cycling testing at three conditional levels. All specimens were thereafter subjected to a shear force. The fractured surfaces were visually analyzed with scanning electron microscopy. The shear bond strength values of functionally graded zirconia combinations were significantly higher than zirconia combinations, irrespective of the fatigue conditions (P < 0.05). The shear bond strength values of graded zirconia combinations and zirconia combinations before thermal-mechanical cycling were higher than after (P < 0.05). The shear bond strength values of graded zirconia combinations was $40.99 ± 2.22$ MPa, $39.44 ± 2.36$ MPa, $37.45 ± 2.06$ MPa, and $36.87 ± 2.18$ MPa for conditions 0 to 3, respectively. The shear bond strength values were $26.75 ± 2.16$ MPa, $23.95 ± 2.16$ MPa, $21.65 ± 2.14$ MPa, and $20.49 ± 2.16$ MPa for zirconia combinations from conditions 0 to 3, respectively. The functionally graded zirconia combinations exhibited greater shear bond strength than zirconia combinations, irrespective of the fatigue conditions. Thermal-mechanical cycling had an impact on the shear bond strength of both graded zirconia combinations and conventional zirconia combinations.

After summaries on Rayleigh's distribution and Wigner's surmise, the time evolution of Rayleigh-Wigner's statistics is studied and a suitable diffusion type equation is proposed. Also the variance and kurtosis of time evolution of Rayleigh's distribution are calculated. Obtained results may be useful in description of physical, social and biological processes.

Opis:
We report investigations of functionalized DNA:PEDT-PSS films. The thermal activation energy of the conductivity near the room temperature was about 0.033 eV. The weak carrier trapping was identified by the thermally stimulated current method, proving the fast recombination of light-generated carriers. A "bistable" photoconductivity below the room temperature was evidenced upon the white light excitation. By cooling the samples down to 145-155 K the photoconduction was small. Below this temperature sudden increase of the photoconductivity was observed. Meanwhile by heating the photosensitivity remained enhanced up to 235-245 K. The slow relaxations of the current after the light excitation took place, the time constant of which reached several hundreds of seconds. Such phenomenon could presumably be attributed to the light-induced changes of the sample material morphology and/or associated variation of carrier transport conditions.

Opis:
Lyophilized samples of human brain tissue from the region of Globus Pallidus were investigated in powder form by $\text{}^{57}Fe$ Mössbauer spectroscopy and SQUID magnetometry. The obtained hyperfine parameters including isomer shift and quadrupole splitting exhibit a ferritin-like behaviour with high-spin Fe(III) sites. Three types of features were derived from temperature development of magnetic susceptibility: dominating diamagnetism, dominating paramagnetism, and intermediate states. The magnetic characteristics of the samples do not correlate with age of the donors.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of calcium (Ca) on the surface characteristics and physical properties of magnesium-calcium alloys after anodization. A novel binary alloy Mg-xCa (in which x=0.5, 1, or 5 wt.%) was cast by combining magnesium (99.9%) and calcium (99.9%) in an argon gas (99.99%) atmosphere. A magnesium alloy rod having a diameter of 15 mm was cut into discs, each 2 mm thick. The specimens were subjected to anodic oxidation at 120 V for 15 minutes at room temperature in an electrolyte solution consisting of calcium gluconate, sodium hexametaphosphate, and sodium hydroxide. Surface and cross-sectional morphological changes were observed using scanning electron microscopy, and the microstructures and phases were detected by means of X-ray diffraction. Hardness and surface roughness were assessed by means of a Vickers hardness tester and a surface roughness meter, respectively. The results show that the physical properties of these magnesium-calcium alloys have been improved, because it was possible to control the dissolution rate according to the amount of calcium added.

Opis:
In this work capabilities of polymer composites modified with carbon materials for application in the bone surgery were compared. The composite materials were produced from synthetic polymer PTFE-PVDF-PP modified with a carbon phase such as: short carbon fibres, carbon nanotubes and carbon fabrics. Determination of mechanical properties of the composite materials indicated that the carbon phase improves strength and Young's modulus of the composite. Moreover, the mechanical parameters can be controlled by the form and amount of the carbon phase introduced into the polymer matrix. Both the fibres and the carbon nanotubes influenced wettability and surface energy of the composites. Also topography of the materials surface was altered, and its roughness was optimal for bone cells (profilometry). Osteoblasts contacted with the polymer-carbon composites showed increased viability comparing with the ones contacting with the pure polymer foil (viability, and cells proliferation: MTT method, concentration of bone protein: viniculine and β-actine). Results of the investigations indicated that the composite materials containing carbon phases are potential materials for repairing of bone tissue damages.
