Opis:
The method based on two-dimensional stochastic process was used to examine the short-term postural sway under eyes-open and eyes-closed conditions. Obtained parameters, i.e., matrix of the fluctuation strength and friction coefficient, describe the stochastic activity of the muscles of the lower limbs as well as mechanisms compensating that activity. The standard force platform was used to measure the center of pressure displacements. In this investigation 17 control subjects and 22 morbid obese subjects were included. It is shown that the method is useful in the study of the postural control system of morbid obese subjects. The muscles responsible for postural control in these subjects have exhibited larger stochastic activity, than these muscles in non-obese subjects. However morbid obese as well as non-obese subjects compensate additionally enlarged level of muscles activity after closure of their eyes. The morbid obesity causes an increase of the muscles' force but does not cause the impairment of the postural control system.

Opis:
After summaries on Rayleigh's distribution and Wigner's surmise, the time evolution of Rayleigh-Wigner's statistics is studied and a suitable diffusion type equation is proposed. Also the variance and kurtosis of time evolution of Rayleigh's distribution are calculated. Obtained results may be useful in description of physical, social and biological processes.

Opis:
The paper deals with possible application of the very promising SMART material - shape memory alloy. At the beginning the laboratory stand for investigation on dynamic behaviour of a SMA linear actuator is presented and results of measurements for the chosen SMA actuator F2000 are depicted and discussed. In the next stage the authors propose to use the so-called Fermi-Dirac function for description of SMA linear actuator dynamics. Applying this function for determining basic performance curve: shortening Δ L versus time t for different loads F requires proper modification of the Fermi-Dirac function and its conversion in the one-parameter family (with parameter F). Coefficients of this family are determined with the help of Hooke-Jeeves optimization algorithm and on the basis of experimental findings separately for activation and deactivation process. The both derived expressions were validated by additional laboratory investigations. Finally, the elaborated descriptions was employed in design procedure of a robot gripper. It was shown that the results of measurements for the gripper prototype are in satisfactory agreement with the results of calculations.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to detect the determinations of the 3D cell deformations of pine wood (Pinus sylvestris L.) in micro-scale(µm) under mechanical compression loading. The 20× 20× 50 mm³ sized wood specimens were tested under compressive pressure load through 35-40 MPa parallel to the grain orientations. The pressure applied samples were divided into three parts, then processed to form smaller cubic pieces and this pieces stained with gold liquid in order to get scanning electron microscopy images (12× 12× 12 mm^3 parts). The deformed cells were photographed in 3D-plane with magnification of (100×), (1500×) and in the range of 3.0-5.0 kV light voltage under the scanning electron microscope. Unloaded and loaded pine wood specimens were visualized and photographed to observe and examine the contraction or expansion of the cell walls comparatively. Based on the experimentally obtained microstructural permanent deformations of the cell structures, a numerical model had been proposed to explain the complex behaviour of cell structures under compression loading. Using the finite element method and ANSYS code, the permanent deformation ratios of three different pinewood cell models were simulated for 35-40 MPa loading to explain the overall stiffness and strength of the pinewood cells. In this way, by considering the results obtained from scanning electron microscopy measurements and related finite element analysis solutions, permanent deformation of honeycomb type pinewood cells was examined in detail.
