Opis:
Transmittance magneto-optical responses of one-dimensional magnetophotonic heterostructures are investigated using 4 by 4 transfer matrix method. It is shown that in a simple magnetophotonic heterostructure constituted of two different periodic structures, the enhanced Faraday rotation associated with high transmittance at a desired wavelength can be realized with specifying optimized repetition numbers and adjusting the thicknesses of the substructure layers. However, the unique features of multichanneled enhanced Faraday rotations are obtained for different configurations of a multiple magnetophotonic heterostructure and the most suitable one to simultaneously support the both resonance wavelengths of $1.3 μm$ and $1.55 μm$ are introduced. These wavelengths are currently used in telecommunication systems. Then the obtained results may have potential applications in designing the multi-function single magneto-optical devices such as multiple Faraday rotators and wavelength division multiplexing systems.

Opis:
In this paper, we create an analytical model to investigate the localized defect modes associated with a defect cell inserted into a one-dimensional magnetic photonic crystal. The structure is a magnetic superlattice with alternative layers of two different magnetic permeability containing a defect cell which is a layer of different nature (material or/and size) from the other layers. This leads to appearance of several localized defect modes within the magnetic photonic band gap. Our analytical approach is based on the transfer matrix and Green's function methods to calculate the frequency and number of the defect modes which can be controlled easily by varying parameter values of the constituent layers of the magnetic photonic crystal. This method results in an analytical formula for prediction of frequency of the defect modes for both TE and TM polarizations at arbitrary angle of incidence.

Opis:
Multiple structures in one-dimensional photonic crystals have great potentials for ultrawide omnireflectors and tunable switches. In this paper, we study the propagation of electromagnetic waves in a one-dimensional heterostructure magnetic photonic crystal for both TE and TM incidence polarizations by means of the transfer matrix method. Results show that by stacking two magnetic photonic crystals as a heterostructure magnetic photonic crystal the omnidirectional total reflection frequency range for any polarization enlarged due to overlapping of photonic band gaps of both magnetic photonic crystals. Omnidirectional band gaps in the heterostructure magnetic photonic crystal is enhanced rather than that in a single magnetic photonic crystal.

Opis:
In the Year of Professor Jan Czochralski, we with pleasure review the representative recent works of our group, Optical Single Crystals Group, NIMS, Japan. Our group has been working on the development of novel single crystals for optical applications based on the Czochralski technique. Here, 4 kinds of topics are reviewed. 1st one is ferroelectric fluoride $BaMgF_{4}$ single crystals for UV nonlinear optical applications including quasi-phase matching device fabrications. 2nd one is transparent conductive $\beta-Ga_{2}O_{3}$ single crystals as semiconductor, which has large band-gap, 4.8 eV, for LED applications. 3rd one is F-doped core-free $Y_{3}Al_{5}O_{12}$ single crystals as a potential new lens material for UV/VUV wavelength region. Last one is superior magneto-optical ${Tb_3}[Sc_{2-x}Lu_{x}](Al_{3})O_{12}$ single crystals for near infrared to visible region, and $CeF_3//PrF_3$ single crystals for UV region.
