Opis:
Coupled resonators and coupled transmission lines are described with the same coupling curve. A ratio between resonant frequencies, squared, of coupled resonators and ratio between impedances of coupled transmission lines reveal the same type of dependence on coupling coefficient. This can be used to select, adjust or create the models of coupled structures. As an example the new model of coupled transmission lines has been developed. Its application in LC element directional coupler is presented and discussed.

Opis:
Problems related to thermal radiation of human bodies in the microwave range are presented in the paper from medical diagnosis point of view. The paper reviews physical principles of thermal radiation measurement at microwave frequencies. A design of a modulation type radiometer with both zero reading and compensation of influence of the reflectivity is presented in the paper. On the base of this design, requirements for absolute temperature measurement conditions in the lossy and homogeneous medium were found. It is worth noting that these demands do not need any limitations for environmental parameters, especially for their stability during measurement (ambient temperature stability). At the end, experimental results of the measurements carried out with the use of the microwave radiometer operating in the 1.5 GHz band are shown.

Opis:
We present optimization of energy transfer in the waveguide-supplied metal-cylinder-based microwave plasma module with an inner cylindrical quartz tube. The construction of microwave plasma module is based on a WR 340 waveguide standard. Presented microwave plasma module operates at atmospheric pressure and frequency of 2.45 GHz. There is a reduced height section waveguide in microwave plasma module which provides local increase of the electric field in the plasma region. Microwave plasma module is terminated with a movable plunger which plays the role of the tuning element. Tuning characteristics of microwave plasma module are defined as the dependence of the $P_{R}$/$P_{I}$ on the position $l_{s}$ of the movable plunger, where $P_{R}$ and $P_{I}$ are the microwave power reflected and power incident, respectively. The powers $P_{R}$ and $P_{I}$ are measured in the input plane of microwave plasma module. The purpose of the presented optimization is to achieve $P_{R}$ lower than 5% of $P_{I}$ in widest range of position of movable plunger $l_{s}$. We used Comsol Multiphysics software to make numerical analysis which allows to optimize the parameters of microwave plasma module. Results of numerical analysis show that $P_{R}$/$P_{I}$ is lower than 0.05 in a wide range of movable plunger position $l_{s}$.

Opis:
The idea of microwave quadrature correlation as well as the block diagram of the microwave broadband correlation receiver and principle of quadrature correlation detection of noise signals using an analog microwave correlator are presented in the paper. Measurement results for the correlation function of noise signals are shown and application of such solution in the noise radar for precise determination of distance changes and velocity of these changes is also presented. Results for short range noise radar operation are presented both for static and moving. Experimental results using 2.6-3.6 GHz noise like waveform for the signal from a breathing human is presented. Conclusions and future plans for the use of presented detection technique in broad-band noise radars close the paper.

Opis:
Depending on the operating frequency range of modern communication systems various microwave elements are required for effective operation of radio equipment. In this work potential ways of developing the microwave dielectric materials for different frequency ranges are discussed. It has been shown that temperature stable dielectrics with the permittivity of about 100, which are intended for the utilization in the decimetre wavelength band, can be developed by means of alio- and isovalent substitution in the cation sublattices of barium lanthanide titanates (BLTss) $Ba_{6-x}Ln_{8 + 2x//3}Ti_{18}O_{54}$ (Ln = La-Gd). The temperature behaviour of the permittivity and dielectric loss in the BLTss has been discussed in terms of both harmonic and anharmonic contributions to the phonons of the BLT crystal lattice. It has been shown that a slight deviation from the compositional stoichiometry in both A-site and B-site deficient perovskites $Ba(M_{1//3}^{2+}Nb_{2//3})O_{3}$ (M = Co, Zn, Mg) allows a prominent enhancement of their microwave quality factor (Q). As a consequence, new dielectrics with the extremely high quality factor (Qxf = 90000-150000 GHz), which are intended for the utilization in the centimetre wavelength band, can be developed. Some examples of the possible implementation of the developed materials are also discussed.

Opis:
An improved ultra-wideband (UWB) and high gain rectangular microstrip antenna is specifically designed in this paper using planar metamaterial based on double-ring resonators (DRR). The antenna has three double-ring resonators (DRRs) etched on the metal patch, and a partial ground plane so that the impedance matching characteristics of the antenna are much better. The -10 dB impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 2.33-16.96 GHz. The antenna is promising for many applications such as WiMAX (2500-2690 MHz), Bluetooth (2400-2480 MHz) and UWB (3.1-10.7 GHz) applications. In addition, the proposed antenna has an average gain of 4.24 dB and a peak gain of 6.87 dB at 12.2 GHz.

An extremely simple first order RC high-pass filter is suggested to suppress harmful radio frequency oscillations, induced by high power electromagnetic pulses. Specifically, a broadband single stage transistor amplifier with a parasitic wiring inductance and also the parasitic junction and mounting capacitances are investigated both numerically and experimentally in the very high and ultrahigh frequency bands.
