Opis:
A new kind of nanostructures with the negative curvature defined as the hollow ones have recently used in biomedical applications. In this work, an analytic model was developed to compute the size-dependent properties of spherical hollow gold nanoparticles in shell-core-shell configuration. This model has established to calculate the cohesive energies based on the surface energy consideration depending on sizes of inner and outer surfaces of hollow nanoparticles. The size and geometry of the model particles have been obtained by using the stability diagram and the collapsing mechanism was studied by molecular dynamics simulations. The model has been also applied to the hollow particles within unstable and half stable geometry. The predicted results have been compared with each other and those obtained by solid ones. The theoretically predicted size dependent properties are consistent with experimental observations and the hollow quantum dot calculations. Thus, an atomistic insight into the size effect on the cohesive energies of hollow nanoparticles has been presented.

Opis:
We studied changes of morphology and magnetic properties of Co/Cu multilayered nanowires, electrodeposited in polycarbonate membranes, as a function of Cu layer thickness. The morphology and structure of wire assemblies with an average diameter of 200 nm and length of 10 μ m, investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy techniques, revealed polycrystalline structure of Cu and Co layers with smooth lateral surface of nanowires. Overdeposited nanowires created caps which showed flower-like dendrites with shape changing as a function of Cu thickness and electrodeposition parameters. Chemical composition of Co and Cu nanowires analysed by energy dispersive spectroscopy and proton induced X-ray emission showed Cu nanowires free from Co atoms while in Co nanowires, Cu contamination with concentration below 10% was observed. The oxidation traces observed in single-component Cu nanowires did not appear in multilayered nanowires. Magnetic measurements indicated easy axis of magnetization in membrane plane for nanowires with Cu thickness smaller than 20 nm, whereas for larger Cu thicknesses isotropic orientation of magnetization was observed. The presence of Cu atoms in single-component Co nanowires resulted in the appearance of magnetic anisotropy with easy axis along nanowire axis and the increase of coercivity value.

Opis:
The multi component $Fe_{74}Hf_{4}Ta_{1}Cu_{1}Gd_{1}La_{x}Si_{15-x}B_{4}$ (x = 0, 7) alloys are promising candidates in the search for materials with unusual mechanical and magnetic properties. Amorphous nature of melt-spun samples was confirmed by X-ray diffractometry and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The X-ray diffraction patterns revealed a distinct amorphous halo. The low-field components of magnetic hyperfine field distributions on iron nuclei are observed in the Mössbauer spectra, with average hyperfine field values of 19.9 and 15.7 T for x = 0 and x = 7, respectively. Coercivity studied by vibrating sample magnetometer was about 12 A/m for x = 0 and 82 A/m for x = 7 at 300 K and about 600 A/m for x = 0 and 1200 A/m for x = 7 at 400 K. Remanence also changed with temperature, amounting to 0.64 T for x = 0 and 0.36 T for x = 7 at 300 K, while at 400 K it was 0.43 and 0.11 T for x = 0 and x = 7, respectively. It is shown that La addition has beneficial effect of shifting the Curie point towards lower temperatures together with the increase of magnitude of magnetization.
